Peter wakes up in a jail cell, an orange jersey draped over him, and three others are in the cell with him. Peter asks where he is, one of the cellmates says they're in Municipal Holding Facility.
"A jail? Why not a hospital or something?" Ned asked.
Another cellmate says that they found Peter unconscious at a trainyard and that it was very dangerous.
'When is he never not in danger at this point?' May found herself wondering. First it was some criminal psychopath in a wingsuit, then a purple alien hellbent on destroying the universe, now it's another psychopath with a hero complex. What's next?
The third cellmate says they gave him the shirt because he seemed cold.
"That was nice of them." Quill commented. No one in any of the prisons he's been to would've given a damn if he was cold, let alone give him something to warm up.
Peter says that they're nice and compliments their English.
They welcome him to the Netherlands.
"The Netherlands!?" Peter shrieked. No! That was the absolute last obstacle he needed. How the hell was he supposed to get back to London. How was he going to explain that to his class, God forbid they ever find out. Mr. Harrington would have a conniption. The whole Berlin excuse may as well be dead if he has to rejoin his class when Mysterio decides to attack again.
"Bye!" Peter says and stands up, stumbling to the door and calling for a guard.
One of the cellmates tells Peter that the guard is on a break probably speaking with his wife, another adds that the wife is pregnant.
"Oh, good for them." Wanda smiled.
"How does he know that? It seems like personal information." Mantis asked.
"Well, it depends. Maybe they're in there a lot." Clint answered. Though, they seemed like nice enough people so he couldn't figure out why they were spending their afternoon in a cell.
Peter breaks the lock off the door and leaves.
"That's one way to do it, I guess" Tony said. "Probably shocked the hell out of those three cellmates of yours."
"Please, you would have just blown it up." Rhodey replied.
As he's leaving Peter sees the guard on the phone wearing the Night Monkey mask, while talking about Night Monkey.
Peter groaned; he couldn't believe the name 'Night Monkey' was actually catching on. Thanks a lot, Ned.
"Hey, isn't there like laws and stuff about guards being able to go through your personal things?" Ned asked.
Just as the guard asks if they're okay, one of the cellmates closes the door again, leaving the rest of them remaining in the cell.
"So, they're just gonna..." Bucky asked, leaving the last part of the question unspoken and up to interpretation.
"I guess so." Steve finished. "To each their own I guess."
"They're better than me, that's for sure." Clint said. He would have just up and left at the first opportunity. Who wanted to spend an afternoon in jail anyway?
Peter puts the jersey on as he walks into a market square and asks the first person he sees if he could borrow his phone. The man hands it to him.
"Just like that? No questions?" Sam asked, astonished at the stranger's trusting nature. "Wow."
Peter dials a number and waits for the person on the other end to answer. He says that he messed up and needs a ride.
And well, Peter supposed that was better than saying 'Hey I was in Berlin then I was attacked by a Mysterio- whom I just accidentally gave one of the post powerful pieces of tech- and was hit by a train and ended in in a jail in a neighboring country.' He's sure that would have gone over well with whoever it was he chose to call. Probably Happy. Who, else could he have reached out to, besides him?
When asked where he is, Peter turns to the owner of the phone and repeats the question. "Broek op Langedijk."
"What the hell did he just say?" Scott asked.
Peter pauses for a bot, before asking the man to repeat it into the phone, before pulling it back to his ear and asking if the person on the other end got that.
"Hopefully." May said. She didn't know what she would do if he ended up stuck in the Netherlands with no way of getting home safely. She'd fly out there and search the place high and low herself if she had to.
Happy lands a jet in the middle of a tulip field.
"Not the tulips, Happy." Peter sighed.
"Where else am I supposed to go, the middle of the street?" Happy asked, suddenly feeling defensive.
"No, I just-"
"Or someone's yard?"
"No-"
"A busy parking lot? They're in an empty field, Peter." Happy replied.
"That happens to be a tourist attraction." Natasha pointed out.
Happy steps off the plane and asks Peter if he's okay, prompting Peter to ask Happy if that's really him.
Peter grimaced. He was already becoming hypervigilant- which was a good thing- but he hated to see himself unsure whether or not he could trust friends and supposed 'allies' like Nick Fury and friends like Happy.
"Of course, it's me." Happy replies, Peter tells him to stop and tell him something only he would know.
"Smart thinking." MJ said. At this point he can never be too sure.
Happy reminds Peter of the time they were in Germany and Peter pay-per-viewed a video in his room and the titles weren't listed but he could tell by the price that it was an adult film.
"Okay. Okay, Okay! That's enough of that. I don't really think anyone wants to hear the rest of that story." Peter said, face heating in embarrassment. They didn't really need to hear the beginning of that story either. Why had that been the first thing that Happy had thought of?
Tony merely sighed, but he supposes that that is what he deserves for recruiting a teenager. The world knows what he was like as a teenager, so it's not like he has any leg to stand on here.
Peter believes that Happy is telling the truth and limps over to him to hug him. Happy says Peter is going to have to tell him what the hell is going on.
"The thing is I barely know what's going on." Peter sighed. A man with killer drones is going to create some kind of quad-element monster to destroy the city just so he can be seen destroying said quad-element monster that- may he remind you- that very same man created, so he can be hailed as what? Some sort of hero? The next Iron Man? That's the truth- as far as he knows- and he still doesn't believe it, because what kind of a person would do something so heinous? So selfish?
They're now on the plane and Happy stitches Peter up. Peter groans in pain as Happy slips the needle through the skin, leading happy to make a comment on his 'super strength.' Peter tells him it still hurts.
"The super strength doesn't really stop me from feeling the pain- that still feels mostly the same as before, it just makes it so that I can withstand more of it, if that makes sense." Peter said.
Happy pokes him a few more times, telling him to relax. Peter slams his fist on the table jumps up from his seat and tells Happy not to tell him to relax and asks how he can when he messed up so bad.
"Well, the way I see it is that agonizing over it won't get you anywhere. You can spend forever feeling guilty or you can try and come up with a plan to fix it, but you won't be able to get anywhere if you're al stressed out." Bruce said.
Peter says he trusted Beck, so he gave away the one thing Tony left for him and now Beck is going to kill his friends and half of Europe and again, tells Happy not to tell him to relax, before sitting back down and apologizing for shouting.
"You don't have to apologize for that." Happy said. Kid seemed like he had a lot to get off his chest and Happy wasn't going to be the one to stop him from doing so.
"I just really miss him."
"Yeah, I miss him too."
Peter something, even though he and Tony hadn't exactly known each other for very long it seemed that the man had a profound influence on his life, and Peter hadn't really been willing to except that brand of influence for a while after his uncle Ben had died. Sometimes it seemed that every positive male influence in his life ended up the same way.
Peter says everywhere he goes he sees Tony's face and the whole world is asking who's going to be the next Iron Man and confesses to not knowing if it's him because he's not Iron Man.
"Of course, you're not Iron Man, Peter." Ned said. "You're Spider-Man. You're your own thing and you shouldn't be basing your decisions and running your life based on the outside world's expectations of you when they don't even know who you are."
Peter smiled briefly. Trust Ned to always know what he needs to hear, even if Ned himself doesn't know that and is just trying to make him feel better. "Thanks Ned."
Happy tells Peter that he's not Iron Man and he'll never be Iron Man. He adds that no one could live up to Tony even Tony himself.
Tony found himself getting a little choked up. It was gratifying, he had no idea Happy thought that much of him. "Damn, glad to know you think so highly of me, Haps." He spoke, trying to lighten the relatively somber mood.
Happy says Tony was his best friend and he was a mess who second guessed everything he did and the only thing he didn't second guess was picking Peter.
"That's true." Pepper laughed fondly, she didn't remember a single moment in their career where he hadn't called her up agonizing over whether or not he'd made the right choice with something. Whether it was related to the company, the press, or even- occasionally- in regards his daily life.
Tony felt shocked to know that his future-self had been that sure about Peter, had believed so much in him. Nothing against the kid, but Tony never found himself believing in things or having faith in people. Those he had trusted had been few and far between.
However, in watching these movies he might be starting to see what his future-self had seen in the kid. He's too stubborn for his own good but his heart is in the right place, and he has this desperate need to help people. You don't find very many people like that anymore- if at all.
Happy says he doesn't think Tony would've done what he did if he wasn't sure Peter would still be there when he was gone.
Even though Tony doesn't know the kid very well yet, he can verify that statement to be true. He doesn't think he would have done what he did if he wasn't sure the people that he cared about would still be there.
Happy tells him that his friends are in trouble, he's all alone and his tech is missing and he's all alone, then asks what he's going to do.
"Kick his ass." Peter decides.
Peter stands up. "I'm gonna kick his ass."
"Great! Love the energy. But I think he meant smaller goals. How are you going to kick his ass, how are you going to find out where he is. You know, plans require steps." Rhodey said, side eyeing the impulsive idiot he calls his best friend as he said the last sentence.
Happy clarifies that he meant 'right now' and asks specifically what they're going to do because they've been hovering over a tulip field for fifteen minutes.
Peter says he can't call his friends because their phones are being tracked, then asks Happy for his phone.
"How are you going to figure out where they are if you can't call them?" Thor wondered.
"The Snapchat map mechanism?" Ned guessed. That's what he would do. Except MJ turned hers off and Peter doesn't take his phone with him hardly anywhere he goes.
Happy hands it over and Peter asks for the password. "Password." Happy responds. Peter asks the question again, confused. Happy says his password is the word password spelled out.
"You've got to be kidding me." Tony deadpanned. "I made you my head of security, and Password was the best you can think of?"
"You know I forget things easily." Happy said, trying to defend himself.
"Inexcusable." Tony said.
"You're the head of security and your password is 'Password'?" Peter asks, leaving Happy to respond by saying that he doesn't feel good about it either.
Happy sighed. Now he had to change his password. Something harder to guess but still easy to remember. Like drowssaP.
Tony, as if sensing what he was thinking, leaned back and whispered. "If you change it to Password backwards, I might have to fire you."
Peter checks Flash's Instagram live, where he is attempting an English accent, saying they're going to be in London. Peter relays the information to Happy.
"Huh, I guess he can be good for something." MJ said. "Who would have thought, right?"
Peter tells Happy that he needs a suit. Happy presses a few buttons in the cockpit and a small lab space opens in the back of the plane.
"Whoa! You have a lab in your plane?" Ned asked, before realizing that it wasn't actually that surprising at all that Tony Stark would have put small labs in his jets. "No- wait forget I asked that, of course there's a lab in your plane. Why wouldn't there be a lab in the plane?"
Peter walks into it and asks the AI to bring up everything on 'Spider-Man.' A few suit holograms show up and Peter starts working with them.
Peter notices Happy watching. "What?"
"Nothing."
"Reminding you of anyone, Haps?" Rhodey asked. Happy just rolled his eyes.
Happy tells Peter to take care of the suit while he takes care of the music. AC/DC's 'Back in Black' starts playing.
"Thought you just said he wasn't Iron Man." Pepper teased. That whole scene felt very familiar to her, right down to the music choice.
Peter yells out that he loves 'Led Zeplin.'
Tony blinked. Once, twice. Three more times. "No-" He sighed. He doesn't think he'd ever been more disappointed in his life- including the time Howard missed his high school graduation.
Peter starts working with the web-shooters, reconfiguring the voltage of the taser webs and giving himself manual control over their detonation.
"For the drones." Bruce observed. "That's a good idea, the more of those you can take out the better."
Fury and Hill talk outside of a building. Fury says he though the Kree having sleeper cells was top secret information.
"Kree sleeper cells?" Rocket asked. "What do you mean Kree sleeper cells?"
"What do the Kree have sleeper cells for?" Quill wondered, anxiously as he recalled their last run-in with the Kree.
Meanwhile, Clint and Natasha were whispering amongst themselves. "When did Fury become so interested in the goings on of other planets?" Clint wondered.
"Well, think about it, Clint. Aliens just invaded New York, and an alien just erased half the population. It's not all that surprising that the man wants all the information he can get his hands on. This is Fury we're talking about. I just want to know how he knows about the Kree sleeper cells." Natasha said.
"Maybe he's running a separate intelligence organization in space." Clint proposed. Natasha gave him an incredulous look. "Oh, come on. It's totally something he would do."
"Danvers could have told him, you know. In case they came to Earth." Natasha pointed out.
Maria informs Fury on an EM pulse she picked up.
Fury says he thought that it was over.
"No, how can it be? Quentin hasn't gotten everything he wanted yet." Shuri said.
Maria says it's the biggest one yet and tells him it's in London.
"Here we go again." Peter sighed.
"Except this time, you know it's not real." Drax pointed out.
"I don't think that makes much of a difference in this case." Gamora replied.
Mr. Harrington and the class are in a train station. Mr. Harrington says that the company set up a city tour, then they can eat and go to the airport.
Brad asks if no one else is going to acknowledge how crazy this is.
"I hate to agree with him, but he's got a point." Peter said. "We were attacked by a water monster, then our vacation gets hijacked to keep putting us all in danger. The we get attacked by a fire monster, and now we're about to be attacked by some multi-elemental drone thing... it's insane."
Mr. Dell says there's been nothing scientific about the science tour at all.
"Thats true. Most of it has been spent either in a hotel, a bus or running for our lives." Ned sighed.
Brad says he's talking about Peter and asks if no one else has realized how shady he is.
"Oh, well never mind then." Peter stated. "Take back what I just said."
Brad says he say Peter at the rest stop with some woman in his underwear and he's always sneaking away and finds it suspicious that Peter's suddenly off the trip with supposed family in Berlin and asks if no one else is interested in the truth.
"He seems a little... obsessed with you, for lack of a better word." MJ said. "It's kind of...it's strange, bordering on unhealthy."
"'The very concept of objective truth is fading out of the world'." MJ quotes.
Brad thanks her, thinking she's on his side.
MJ says Peter isn't there to tell his truth, then asks Brad if he thinks it's okay to take pictures of people in the bathroom.
"Yeah, 'escort' or not, taking pictures of people in the bathroom is weird." Bucky said.
Flash asks him what that's about, while recording it.
"Oh great, he's live. Now hundreds of people can see this conversation." Ned laughed.
"At least now everyone at school knows who to stay away from." MJ added.
Brad fails to defend himself. Mr. Harrington says they should put all of this craziness behind them to have a nice, peaceful afternoon. "'Sounds great Mr. Harrington.' said the class." Says Mr. Harrington.
"Poor man's just trying to do his job." Sam said.
"It doesn't help that we don't exactly have the best track record with field trips, specifically ones that he's chaperoned." Peter said.
"What do you mean?" Steve asked.
"Well- and this is just the years I've been there- our freshman year, Peter got separated from the group, on a trip to this lab. That was when he got bit. Then there was Washington DC- we all know what happened. Then MoMA- when we got invaded by aliens again, then this." Ned explained.
Mr. Dell walks up to Brad, says he'll be the cool teacher and tells Brad not to take anymore photos in the bathroom, urinals or stalls.
"It'll get him put on a list." Hope said.
The group gets onto their bus, the guide- Guterman- is waiting for them.
"Aw hell." Clint cursed.
'Mysterio' flies around a building to where Fury is waiting. He says he got there as fast as he could and says he did a full perimeter sweep and there's nothing.
"Honestly, if you haven't caught on by now, I might start thinking that you're not Fury." Natasha said.
Maria gets a pulse on the computer. Mysterio flies out to take another look. Fury tells him to report as soon as he sees something because he's all they have.
Fury sighed, wondering how he could have trusted Beck in the first place. He never was too keen on trusting strangers and from what he could tell, he and Hill knew almost nothing about this man before they chose to work with him. He should have been able to see through that act like he did everybody else's. The only explanation he could think of was that this on-screen Fury wasn't him, but someone else. But that would be crazy, right? Maybe not too crazy considering he did used to be friends with a shapeshifter.
Beck is standing in a separate building, overlooking the bridge surrounded by drones, wearing a motion capture suit.
"You have got to be kidding me." Strange sighed. God help them all.
Beck says that if this is what he fears then God help them all.
"Should've been an actor." Scott said.
Beck switches his comms off and starts communicating with his team. He says there are no Avengers coming so they're good to go.
"Wouldn't be too sure about that." Peter said.
William launches the drones, telling Beck that they're entering the atmosphere weapons hot. The drones make their way from the satellite to their location.
Peter tensed up in his chair. That was a lot more drones than he was expecting.
Janice is still working on Mysterio's cape. Beck says to get those wrinkle's out because he could be shaking hands with the King in a few hours.
"He only cares about the recognition." Steve said, appalled at the behavior. He wants to be seen doing good, but only in controlled environments where he's never in any actual danger.
Guterman is almost in position, and Victoria increases the pulse via a machine in a van. Maria tells Fury that this one is bigger than the last ones.
"Well, he has better tech than he had then, and he just couldn't resist himself." Fury explained.
Beck asks EDITH to show him his loose ends. EDITH shows Fury, Ned, MJ and Betty. Beck tells EDITH to execute a kill order on his command once the 'show gets going.'
Peter instantly paled, starting to feel sick to his stomach in trepidation, but also guilt. After all, beck wouldn't have been able to pull any of this off if he hadn't given away EDITH. God, why did he do that?
"Start the show. Let's save the world, people."
Everyone braced themselves to see what kind of monstrosity Beck had created with the EDITH drones. They knew that whatever it was, it would be horrible for everyone.
On their tour bus, MJ tells Ned that she doesn't like this and suspects that somethings up.
Ned tells her that she's an 'FOS'- Friend of Spiderman- and she has to remember to just stay calm.
"You make it sound like some elite club." Peter laughed. "'FOS.'" He mimicked.
A storm like cloud starts growing near a building. MJ says that it doesn't look good.
Ned says its fake so it's not a big deal.
"Fake, but they do real damage!" MJ stressed. "The fire demon nearly burned down the whole carnival in Prague and left very real damage."
Guterman says the kids are in the kill zone as he exits the bus.
May felt sick. Beck purposefully put a whole group of kids right in the center of the danger and he hadn't even given it a second thought. Not to mention he's going to destroy the whole city for no reason other than the recognition he'd get for supposedly saving it.
Happy calls Fury and tells him that there was a surfboard that he left behind when he was going through Tony's belongings. He says someone said they didn't think Nick Fury was a surfer and Happy responded - looks can be deceiving.
Natasha turned to look at Happy, eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "What?"
"I've never given a coded message before." Happy tried to explain.
Fury says it's not his and tells Happy not to call that number again, and exchanges a look with Hill, then goes back to watching 'the show.'
"Tell me you're finally getting it." Clint pleaded.
'Dorset Coast, United Kingdom.' On the plane, Happy tells Peter that Fury got the coded message and says his friends are at the Tower bridge and he's going to go scoop them out.
Peter smiled. "Thanks, Happy."
Peter tells him that his suit is almost done and reaches into his pocket to hand Happy the necklace he got for MJ and tells Happy to give it to her if something happens to him.
"Peter..." May uttered, she wanted to tell him that nothing was going to happen to him, but she just wasn't certain enough of that to say it aloud. Because saying it out loud made it true and how it could possibly feel true was beyond her at the moment.
Happy tells him that he will make it back to give it to her himself.
"You will." Happy stressed. He's not going to see that kid die on his watch.
Happy tells Peter to walk him through it. Peter says he knows beck has illusion tech so all he has to do is take down the illusions from the inside and Find Beck and says beck is just a guy so he can take EDITH right back.
"Except for the fact that Quentin controls EDITH and has armed drones as his watchdogs." Nebula pointed out.
Happy reminds Peter that he got hit by a train last time.
"And I, for one, would like to avoid a repeat of that. Thank you very much." May said.
"Yeah, uh- me too." Peter added.
Peter starts to explain his sixth sense to Happy, who instant recognizes it as the 'Peter-tingle.'
"It's not- we're not calling it that." Peter said shaking his head.
"Well, what do you call it?" MJ asked.
"I don't know, sixth-sense, spider-sense?" Peter answered, trying to come up with a better name. Anything was better than 'Peter-tingle' in his mind.
"Spider-sense?" MJ asked, giggling at- what she believed to be a ridiculous name.
"Yeah, it's a bit more accurate than 'Peter-tingle' at least." Peter answered, rolling his eyes as he said the words Peter-tingle.
"Well... you're not an actual spider, but you are Peter so... it fits" Ned answered.
Happy says he heard that it's not working.
Peter says he doesn't know if it's working.
"You better make it work." May said, panicked.
Happy tells Peter to get his 'Peter-tingle' online and he'll go get his friends.
"Thank you, Happy." Peter expressed.
Beck watches his 'show.' he tells William to cue the lightning. The storm cloud gets bigger.
"Holy shit." Scott gasped. "That looks damning."
Mr. Harrington goes down to ask if they should all move to the lower level of the bus, only to find that Guterman has left.
Mr. Harrington tells them that the 'bus driver' is gone but he and Mr. Dell have it under control.
"I have to hand it to him; he's been trying his best to keep everyone calm and as safe as they can be when this whole thing is being manipulated in part to ensure their demise." Shuri commented.
Mr. Dell tells 'Roger' not to drag him into this.
Mr. Harrington tells 'Julius' that he's trying his best.
"Wow. I've never heard Mr. Harrington raise his voice before." Ned said.
"He screams in his car in the mornings sometimes before school." MJ said. "I've never had the heart to tell him that they aren't soundproof."
Part of the monster emerges from the water. Mr. Dell yells that the witches are back.
"Not witches, drones." Shuri said gravely. Honestly, it was a lot scarier knowing that this sort of thing was accomplished with man-made technology and not some unexplainable alien force. Because at least then, it can be chalked up to being an alien force, but this... is a question of something else entirely, starting with the ethics of technology.
Everyone starts trying to get off the bus. Mr. Harrington leads the kids sown the street full of cars. The monster destroys the bus.
"Still so sure it's not real?" MJ asked Ned.
Beck watches from the safety of his building and says that is an Avengers level threat.
'Too bad there's only one avenger to stop it.' Tony found himself thinking, which only led to him wondering what the rest of them might be dealing with in that moment of time. He wouldn't be surprised if they were all dealing with lunatics of their own.
Drones in the water send out pulses that destroy parts of nearby walkways.
Mr. Harrington leads the kids through a tunnel, Flash is still livestreaming everything.
"Idiot." MJ said, rolling her eyes at Flash' behavior. Standing there and recording, instead of using common sense and running for his life like the rest of them.
Ned keeps saying that it's not real. MJ says it looks pretty real to her.
"Looks pretty real to me, too." Tony said.
Mr. Dell frets that the 4 elements joined forces like the power rangers.
Mr. Harrington tells him he was thinking of Voltron.
"I loved that show when I was a kid." Bruce reminisced.
Brad notices Mysterio flying toward the 'monster' and cheers, thinking he's saving them. Mysterio starts blasting the monster.
"He's the one putting all of you in danger." Drax spoke.
MJ points out to Ned that Mysterio knows that they know about him.
Ned realizes that it's putting them all in danger. They leave, Ned drags Betty along with them and Flash follows.
"He just had to come along for the fun." Ned sighed.
"You brought your girlfriend." MJ shrugged. She didn't really care that Flash followed them; it seemed like one of his favorite things to do.
"That's different, she doesn't hate us." Ned argued.
"We're all about to die, Ned." MJ replied.
Mysterio tells the monster that this was for his family as he continues blasting it.
Rocket snorted. The guardians all gave him bewildered looks. "I'm- I'm sorry. It's just, now that I know he's full of shit, it's all kind of ridiculous." He apologized, barely containing giggles. "'This is for my family'." He mocked.
Beck, from his building, tells Fury that he should get somewhere safe because he doesn't see this ending well.
"What? So you can drone strike me the first chance you get?" Fury asked, rhetorically.
Fury tells Beck that he appreciates the concern, but he never leaves his men behind.
"Most fury-like thing he's done so far." Steve muttered. Whether he agreed with the man on everything or not, he couldn't deny that Fury wouldn't leave any one of them behind when given the choice.
Happy flies the plane toward the scene. They do a comms check; Peter is sticking to the side of the plane. Happy compliments the suit.
"Yeah, it looks good, but what happened to not wanting to be seen as Spider-Man overseas?"
"Well, I feel like that's probably the least of my concerns at this point." Peter shrugged. However, he will honestly be shocked if his classmates don't figure everything out when this is all over. There's just too much evidence at this point.
Happy spots the 'monster' and asks Peter if he's sure it's not real.
Peter says he's sure and adds that it's just bigger than he expected.
"I am Groot." Groot spoke. (Definitely bigger than the other ones were.)
Peter tells Happy to go higher so Beck won't see him coming.
Happy tells him to 'stay sticky' as he flies up.
"Don't ever say that again, please." Peter requested. Read demanded.
Peter tells Happy that they need to have a serious conversation about him and May, just before he gets blown off the plane and into the illusion.
Peter supposed there were worse people that May could date, and he could admit that Happy wasn't a bad choice- at least he's not some creep.
Fury asks beck for a report. Beck tells Guterman that he needs a response, that's quick and decisive.
"What? You can come up with this elaborate scheme, but you can't come up with a quick little fib to tell Nick Fury?" Carol asked. "Wow."
Beck tells Fury that the elementals emerged into something else, which is drawing power from the Earth's core.
"Bitch, what?" Fury asked, in disbelief over the terrible lie.
Fury turns to Maria and tells her that "that's some bullshit."
"Honestly, you'd think they would have covered all of their bases considering." Maria said.
"Well, none of them are writers as far as I can tell." Coulson said. Most- if not all of them- were ex-employees of Stark Industries- scientists, not exactly the type to come up with a believable enough script to explain their lie without exposing it.
Maria sees Peter diving into the illusion, Fury tells her to be ready for anything.
Peter enters the illusion, and grabs onto a drone. He looks around "That's awesome." He speaks.
"Destroy it now, marvel over the science of it later." Hank said, rolling his eyes.
Maria climbs onto the roof with a case.
Peter jumps from drone-to-drone sticking taser webs to them.
Beck tells William that there's drones breaking formation. William assures him that it'll be fine, saying that they probably hit a flock of birds.
"More like a singular mutated human." Peter corrected.
Beck tells him that he's taking manual control because he wants to see what's happening. On the screen, he sees Peter sticking taser webs to drones.
William asks if he sees anything.
Beck says he does and says he'll kill Peter.
May's blood ran cold as ice as she felt a sense of dread pool in her gut. She reached out to grab Peter's hand and she didn't let go of it.
Peter lights up the drones, they start shorting and the illusion starts to crumble.
"It's working! Everyone'll realize they're fake." Scott said, a tinge of hope in his voice.
"But that's only part of the problem." Peggy reminded him.
A drone is revealed to have been stationed in front of Fury the whole time.
Maria, who's gun is now set up, shoots the drone, blowing it up.
Fury nodded at Maria in thanks.
Peter spots Beck through a hole in the illusion and makes his way to him. Beck asks EDITH for some protection.
A drone hits Peter, sending him falling to the street. Drones swarm above him.
Beck tells William to kill the illusion. William protests because then they'll see.
"They already do!" Sam shouted. Or the ones who could do something about it saw.
Beck says they'll see what he wants them to see.
"I don't wanna know what he means by that." Peter said, a sense of apprehension building in his chest.
Janice asks if he still needs the cape, Beck says he does.
"His priorities are all out of wack." Bucky said.
"You're just now realizing that?" Sam asked.
William kills the illusion and the whole thing crumbles.
"At least, with the illusion out of the way, you'd just be left with the drones and the madman himself."
Happy, is flying, watching Flash's livestream- where he's running through the street yelling that the monster was full of drones.
"Still not sure if I want to call him an idiot for streaming this whole thing or not." Rhodey admitted. "I've been leaning towards no."
Happy lands the plane, and finds MJ, Ned, Betty and Flash and tells them to get on the jet. MJ asks who he is.
Happy says he works with Spider-Man.
"You work for Spider-Man!?" Flash asks.
"He is quite the fanboy." Pepper commented, with an amused smile. If only he knew.
Happy corrects him, saying he works with Spider-Man not for him.
"Yeah! You put that kid in his place Happy." Tony said with mock enthusiasm.
Drones blow up the jet.
"Well, there goes that plan." Happy sighed.
Happy tells them to go into the tower. Peter, who could see the jet, asks Happy if they're okay.
Happy assures him that they are and tells Peter to get to Beck.
Beck orders EDITH to target Spider-Man. Drones start shooting at Peter. Beck says he'll just kill the kids himself.
"All this from the would-be hero." Natasha sneered.
Peter swings around the bridge, dodging drones.
Beck sends two drones after Happy and the kids. Happy ushers everyone into the crown jewels vault.
Soldiers are shooting at the drones, they destroy one; the other follows Happy.
"Oh no." Ned fretted.
Happy tells them to get to the vault, while the drone opens fire, they all take cover. The drone stops in the middle of the room.
The theater was just as silent as the room on the screen. Everyone was waiting anxiously for the drone to either move and do something or- perhaps the more unlikely version of events- to turn around and go back to where it came from.
MJ reaches for a nearby mace, happy tries to get her not to do it but she grabs it anyway and nearly drops it, grabbing hold of it seconds before it hits the ground.
MJ tensed, the visceral reaction she had was awful. For a moment she nearly thought that if she got hurt on the screen- in the future, she'd be hurt in present life. Silly thought, silly brain.
Flash tries to capture everything on his live, Betty knocks over a suit of armor, triggering the drone and MJ hits it with the mace, giving them an opening to run into the vault while the drone is disoriented.
"That almost looked planned." Carol commented.
Happy throws a shield at the drone, missing it by a long shot.
"Damn." Happy sighed. How did Steve make it look so easy?
"How does Cap do that?" Happy asks before closing the door.
"He's a lot stronger than you are, Happy." Rhodey answered, as if he were answering something obvious.
"No." Steve sighed. "It's all in the weight distribution and how you throw it." He corrected.
The drone starts to laser cut the door open.
"You really didn't leave a single mechanism out, did you?" Pepper asked Tony, who grimaced in response.
Peter gets tossed behind a car. He tells Happy to say something to let him know they're alive. Happy says he's there and he bought them some time but not much.
"Really? Because it seems MJ did most of the work, you just told them where to go." Wanda said.
Peter says he's trying to get to Beck, but he can't shake the drones. He shoots a web, slinging himself and the car upward, before the car drops and destroys some drones, then lands on the rood, in Beck's sights. The drones start spraying fire.
"What!?" Peter shouted. "They spray fire, too?" He was doomed.
Peter slings off the building- still on fire- then swings back around the bridge narrowly avoiding attacking drones. He shoots webs at the side of the bridge to catch the drones before swinging below the bridge, using water to put the fire out.
"Take it from me, being on fire- and not the good kind of 'on fire'- during a fight is not fun." Tony said.
Peter hitches a ride on one of the drones, but it gets destroyed sending him falling. He shoots a web at another, flying over the overlook and shooting a web between the two bridges, to then use that web as a slingshot to destroy more drones.
"It's like they just keep coming." Mantis commented.
"There's probably hundreds of them." Vision replied.
As he lands, nearby drones hit him with EMP's, sending cars flying into him as he falls into the water. "Finally." Beck says, having been watching from the screen on his arm. William tells him that the illusion is almost back up.
"Why would you want to restore it after you just had him take it all down?" Natasha wondered. Beck's panning something else and whatever it was, it couldn't be good.
"The civilians don't know that it was beck who was behind it. And those drones are Stark Industries property..." Maria trailed off.
William says he doesn't know how Beck is going to spin this.
