It was a normal Monday evening in the office of the prime minister. He was reclining in his chair. Whiskey glass in hand, he drank, until he was startled. The flames in the fireplace grew more intense and burned a bright green. The Prime Minister thought he would be used to this by now, it's happened more than enough times.
He put down the glass and quickly stood. Then, a robed woman wearing a silver mask stepped from the flames, alongside her a masked and robed man. The Prime Minister dropped into a low bow, holding for a few seconds before returning.
The woman spoke, "It's a nice evening, isn't it?
The Prime Minister nodded and motioned for them to sit. "Of course, Grandmaster. I hope you are doing well."
The woman moved behind the Prime Minister's desk and sat, as both men moved to sit in the two chairs on the other side. "Is everything going according to plan?"
The Prime Minister looked concerned. He knew that his men had all died during the operation, killed by an Assassin. "No, Grandmaster. The Brotherhood, they were waiting . My men didn't stand a chance."
The woman shook her head, "My men, Prime Minister. I thought you could handle a simple task. Get the egg out of London."
The Prime Monster looked more worried now, "B- but, they couldn't even spot a lone Assassin! How is it on me?"
The woman held her hand out in a motion to silence him, "Then perhaps you should have sent some of your men to provide extra security. Despite all the masks, we Templars don't purely work in secrecy. If an area needs to be protected by lackeys, then they could've slowed the Assassin long enough for you to move the egg."
The Prime Minister said, "Then they would've died!"
The woman sat back in the chair and grabbed the glass of whiskey off the desk and examined it, "As much as I care about the lives or your muggle police, more civilian lives are at stake here, that egg is dangerous, and it was in a place where my men couldn't easily get access without your help."
The Prime Minister asked, "Well what's so dangerous about that egg?" Though he knew full well what the answer would be.
The woman put the glass back down, "A very dangerous magical creature. One that the Assassins now have their hands on."
The Prime Minister said, "I'm sorry, It'll never…"
He was cut off once more by the masked woman, "I won't hear any more excuses. I already have the Serpent working on it."
The woman stood up and motioned for the others to do the same. She walked over to the fire and threw in green powder. The flames' intensity grew once more and she turned to the Prime Minister. "If you feel like being helpful, perhaps you should quit the alcohol, but if you want to sit back and be useless, by all means, drink." She walked into the fire alongside the other man.
The Prime Minister walked back to his seat, sat down and took a long drink of his whiskey. Only a few seconds later, did he clutch his chest. His breathing slowed, he tried to stand but fell, he was dead only moments later.
The Hogwarts Headmasters office was a grand room, there were many magical portraits along the walls and trinkets neatly sorted and placed along shelves, the Headmistress of Hogwarts, Minerva McGonagall. A knock sounded from the door and McGonagall flicked her wand to open it, Inside stepped two people Professor Neville Longbottom, and a woman wearing a high collared and form fitting crimson jacket that dropped to her knees. She wore a black cape over her right shoulder and had a hood that matched the jacket pulled over her head, though you could see a hint of fiery orange hair emerging from beneath. In her hands was a burlap sack.
The woman carefully placed the sack on the desk and said, "Templars down in London had this with them. It's an egg, dunno of what."
McGonagall opened the sack, "Ah, looks to be a basilisk egg."
The woman shuddered, she lowered her beaked hood revealing her freckled face and brown eyes, "Ugh, I've had enough of basilisks, can we smash it?"
McGonagall nodded, "Of course, GInerva, we can' let such a dangerous beast out in the world now, can we?"
Ginny produced her wand from her sleeve and cast a spell on the egg, destroying it, "Right, now then, Neville, did you learn anything?"
Neville nodded, "Yes, uhh, Templars have taken over a small castle in Fife, a man known as the Boxer was ordered there."
Ginny nodded, "How long has he been there?"
Neville said, "He hasn't yet, the order was given shortly after you stole the egg."
GInny asked, "Any other information on this 'Boxer'?"
Neville said, "He's a lower ranking leader in the order, I believe he works for the Basilisk."
Ginny leaned on McGonagall's desk, "Wish we knew more names, too many codes."
McGonagall said, "We will find out in due time, now then, Ginerva. You should discover what this Boxer is doing."
Ginny nodded, "Of course, mentor. Where is this castle, Neville?"
Neville said, "Somewhere in Fife. It's unplottable, but we do know it's somewhere near Auchtertool."
Ginny moved towards the door and said, "I guess I'll be in Auchtertool then, I'll be back!"
She swept out of the room out to a small hidden balcony on the outside of the fortress and hopped on a broomstick to fly off.
It was a quiet night in Auchtertool, fog hung in the air and only a few robed figures wandered the streets. Crouched atop a building was a figure, impossible to determine due to the transparent shimmering of their form. Though that was the point, as Ginny cast a disillusionment charm on herself before stalking the village.
The two people below her caught her attention when they mentioned something about a boxer. Ginny had been tailing these two for the better part of an hour.
"You have your ring, right?" One of the hooded men asked.
The other replied, "Yeah, but why do we need 'em."
The first leaned against the building and said, "Can't see the castle without 'em."
The other said, "Yeah, but what point is it wearing these damned things if we're on guard duty out in town."
The first moved forwards, "Don't ask me, Boxer decided, and we both know he isn't very smart."
The second chuckled, "Why did Basilisk even give this job to Boxer?"
The first said, " I think they were friends back in Hogwarts."
It was at that moment Ginny decided to strike. She lept off the building and flicked her wrists as two small blades protruded from her sleeves. Each blade pierced the skull of one of the two robed men. Ginny reached town and grabbed a ring off of one of them before moving them behind a bush and hiding them with magic.
Ginny moved north and found a castle that wasn't there before. It was short, with a large hole in the outer wall revealing a destroyed keep within. There were five templar wizards busy at work digging. Ginny moved closer, she expertly climbed the outer wall to get to a better vantage point. Upon closer investigation, the wizards were using magic to excavate rocks from the keep. All were dressed in simple black robes, though one wore a coat, with a bowler hat and a silver mask shaped like a skull. He was keeping a silent watch over the other four workers.
That must be the Boxer, Ginny thought to herself. She hopped off the wall behind a small pile of crates. Luckily for her, the excavation process caused there to be many piles of equipment or debris that are easily hidden behind. One of the workers got up and started walking towards Ginny. She quickly moved her hand over the man's mouth and stabbed him in the neck with her other hand's hidden blade and moved him behind a pile. She cast a non-verbal spell on him to hide the body and moved in closer.
The Boxer finally spoke up, he had a rather gruff and deep voice, "Right then, we're done for now. Basilisk'll have'ta wait till morning. Too tired for this shite." He waved his hands as the other three wizards moved around. Ginny ducked low and tried to stay out of sight. The Boxer walked into the main keep as one of the wizards waited at the door. The other two took up positions on the walls, looking into the grounds.
Ginny thought to herself on how best to handle this, with three guards she could easily dispatch them with magic, but magic was loud, bright, and easily traced back to the source. Even if she could cast combative spells non-verbally, the trails of light they'd produce or the sounds of impact weren't as easy to conceal as a small knife. Her blades and other mundane weapons were quiet, and easy to hide.
The guards were positioned with one on the western wall, one standing in front of the doorway in the central keep to the north, and the third keeping a lazy watch on the eastern wall. Ginny reached into her jacket and pulled out a throwing knife. She was closest to the western guard. She waited for the eastern to look away from the courtyard and then threw her dagger. It struck the neck of the western wizard and he thudded to the ground. This got the attention of the door guard. He slowly walked towards the western wall. Ginny dashed to the eastern wall, jumping on crates and debris then leapt towards the man. She flicked her wrist and stabbed the man through his back and into his heart. She grabbed his legs and flipped him over the wall, out of sight then spun and moved stealthily towards the door guard, who had his back turned. She clasped her hand over his mouth and stuck her hidden blade through his neck.
She then moved towards the door, her hand reached out until she stopped it. She looked up, there was a small window that she was slim enough to fit through. She took a second to identify and potential foot or handholds and then scaled the wall. She was swift as she reached the top window. Inside there were wooden beams crossing six meters above the ground. Sitting in a chair next to a fireplace was the masked man, smoking a pipe. Ginny extended her hidden blades and leapt from the rafters she kicked the man in the chest, breaking his chair and sending him flat to the ground. She took her bland and plunged it deep into his heart. Blood began to drip from his wound as Ginny retracted her blade. She reached down and removed the mask from the Boxer. Ginny gasped in surprise when she saw his face.
The man lying dead on the ground was someone Ginny knew. He was someone she went to Hogwarts with. The Boxer was Gregory Goyle.
Ginny thought to herself, Wait, the men outside said that The Boxer went to Hogwarts with the Basilisk. If Goyle was the Boxer, then that can only mean… Malfoy. The Templars have infiltrated the Ministry…
Ginny rummaged through Goyle's pockets, eventually finding a note that confirmed her suspicions about Malfoy. It was from the Basilisk saying that he was finally giving Goyle a chance to not just follow him around and guard him. It mentioned he needed to search for an Apple. Something to compliment the artifact the Grandmaster already held.
Ginny knew she had to find it. She walked back out and began the excavation process with her magic. Levitating, summoning, and blasting debris and rocks until she discovered a small chamber, it had red carpets and along the wall were tapestries showing a king using a glowing golden orb to control vast armies. In the center of the room was a decaying wooden box, and whatever was inside was shedding a golden light.
Ginny opened the box from afar with magic and then levitated whatever was inside. It was a golden orb with strange and alien inscriptions. Ginny had never seen anything as intricate or incredible as it before. She held out her hand and grabbed it. She suddenly began to hear whispers. Voices began imparting words of violence into her mind. She dropped it immediately before tossing it in a sack and tying the sack to a stick to keep it as far away from her as she could. She walked outside, held her wand up high and summoned her broom.
Ginny was rushing, it was morning by the time she got back to Hogwarts to deliver the orb to McGonagall, she gave her the quick story and then set off for where she was now, the Ministry of Magic. She was here to visit an old friend, her sister-in-law, Hermione Granger-Weasley, the current Minister of Magic. In her rush, she forgot to change into something less assassin-like, but she needed to hurry. Whatever Draco Malfoy was planning, she needed to inform Hermione, maybe even let her in on the secret of the ancient war between Assassins and Templars. If the Templars were to be stopped, then the highest power in the current government should know. The people at the gate gave her a quick check to make sure she wasn't an imposter using poly juice before letting her in, as she was both a celebrity former quidditch player, and a journalist. Not to mention how much of her family worked in the ministry. Her husband was the Harry Potter, the current head of the Auror's department. Her brother was a former Auror, and his wife was the Minister.
She hurriedly knocked on the door to the Minister's office. It opened soon after and Ginny swiftly made her way over to Hermione's desk.
Hermione casually looked up from her paperwork and asked, "Ginny? It's early, what brings you to my office?"
Slightly out of breath from her rush to get here, Ginny said, "It's urgent, there's a traitorous wizard here."
Hermione looked intrigued and slightly amused, "Traitor? Those are some fairly harsh words, and just who might you be accusing?"
Ginny still had a serious look over her face, "Draco…"
Before she could finish saying the name, Hermione cut her off, "Malfoy has proven himself to be far more than a dark wizard. Honestly, Ginny, you sound so much like Harry. He was convinced Draco was a death eater back in Hogwarts. Listen, Draco has enough wealth to where he doesn't even need to work, but he still sought a job with the ministry, and I put him in the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts Office. He worked his way up from the bottom to being the department head, he's a good man now."
Ginny was frustrated, "Doesn't that seem suspicious! He doesn't need to work, why are you even defending him, he was horrible to you!"
Hermione shook her head, "Ginny, that was back in Hogwarts. It's been ages since then, people can change."
Ginny got up and began to walk out in frustration, but she turned around. She said, "I have evidence. Kind of, Goyle died. He was a member of an ancient group of people known as the Templars, and I believed he was working under direct orders from Malfoy, calling himself the Basilisk, to do something… Probably mind control everyone, whatever it is the Templars do."
Hermione looked both concerned and intrigued, "If that's true, then how do you know any of this?"
Ginny looked at her and said, " Because I'm the one who killed Goyle. I'm a member of another secret group. The Assassins. It's our job to keep the people free from the Templars.
Hermione looked curious, "Who else is in these Assassins?"
Ginny said, "I've already said too much, I could get executed for telling you this. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go kill Malfoy."
Hermione shot from her desk and said, "No! You can't just kill a major member of the Ministry. Let me deal with this."
Ginny said, "Malfoy is a threat to the safety of everyone. If he's the big boss giving orders, then he needs to die."
Hermione shook her head. "If you try, I'll have you arrested. I need to look into this first, please. If he truly is a Templar, then I'll let you know and maybe look the other way, but for now I've got this."
Ginny begrudgingly said, "Alright, fine, stay safe." She walked out of the room and shut the door, leaving Hermione all alone. Hermione hit the wall nearby with her fist and leaned against it.
Damnit, Draco she thought to herself, why'd you do this.
