Chapter 1
It's time for our journey to the Alola Region. Upon our arrival, we settled into Lillie's house, boasting a delightful view of the ocean. Initially, we were apprehensive about Lusamine's return, but Hobbes, the butler, reassured us. He informed us that Ms. Lusamine had been residing at the Aether Foundation for several months and hadn't been home.
Trenor has joined our travel party as the sole family member who hasn't journeyed with me yet, and he's eager to explore. He's also enrolled in the Alola Pokemon Trainer's School, which doesn't commence for another week. However, we learn from him that Professor Oak's cousin, Samson Oak, is the principal of the school.
"Ash, do you remember? In some dimensions, we attended the Alola Pokemon Trainer's School," Lillie asks, seeking confirmation from me.
"Yeah, perhaps we should consider enrolling there again," I suggest.
Trenor chimes in, "That sounds exciting! You both would enjoy it. I recall Nate and Rosa mentioning they're also heading to the school."
"Nate and Rosa... it's been quite some time since the Unova League," I remark, a smile forming on my face as memories resurface.
As we step into the Principal's office, he greets us, "Alola, you must be Ash and Lillie! Welcome to the Pokemon School, where we have a whole lot of Solrock and roll!"
"Wow... you really do resemble Professor Oak," Lillie remarks.
"I get that a lot. I suppose that's why you recognized me. I'm Samson Oak. A pleasure to meet you both!" he exclaims, striking a pose resembling a Crawdaunt, which leaves us slightly bewildered and sweating.
"Don't worry, brother. He enjoys cracking jokes that involve Pokemon names," Trenor reassures us.
"We could all use some fun. A bit of levity and laughter is like a Tyranitar!" Samson Oak comments enthusiastically, receiving weird looks from all of us before he heads into the office.
As we take our seats, Samson Oak contacts Professor Oak. "Hey, Samuel! It's me. I've got your egg safe and sound!"
"Excellent, Samson. That's great news! Thank you, and also thanks to Ash, Lillie, and Trenor."
"It's been our pleasure," I respond with a smile.
Trenor asks, "Principal Oak, since Ash is my brother, would it be possible for me to give both him and Lillie a tour of the campus?" Trenor inquires.
"Of course, Porygon away!" Principal Oak responds with another playful joke before Trenor takes the initiative to show us around the campus.
As we step into the empty classroom, we're captivated by the court's sight when a voice greets us, "Hi, a big Alola to you all!"
"Professor Kukui!" We exclaim in surprise at seeing him in the school. "Long time no see!"
"Principal Oak briefed me. Welcome back to the Alola Region, Ash, Lillie," Professor Kukui greets us warmly. "This Pokemon School is a fantastic place; I hope you enjoy your time here."
Curious about Professor Burnet, Lillie asks, "How is Professor Burnet? Is she doing well?"
"She's doing fine, just a bit occupied at the Dimension Lab in the Akala Region," Professor Kukui replies. "So, what are your plans here in Alola?"
"We're planning to enroll in the school for a year as students," Lillie announces.
"That's great news," Professor Kukui responds with a smile. "But since school won't begin until next week, how about joining me for a while? We've got some new trainers eager to choose their starter Pokémon."
"That sounds like a lot of fun!" I reply enthusiastically, a smile spreading across my face.
As Professor Kukui readies the Pokémon, I notice one of them is a Rowlet, and I recognize it since I have a Hisuian Decidueye back at home. Additionally, there are also Litten and Popplio. However, all three Pokémon suddenly bolt off, prompting us to start chasing after them.
As we catch up to the scene, it becomes evident that the two new trainers are trying to make their way to Iki Town and are vulnerable to wild Pokémon. Consequently, the three Starter Pokémon rush to assist them.
"Hey there, cousins!" Kukui warmly greets the two trainers. "Hang on, I know you two... You're Elio and Selene, right?! You OK? I saw you get attacked like that!"
"Well, we were a bit surprised, but we managed with some help," Selene responds.
"Looks like you did! Though I sure didn't expect that, yeah... I didn't think these little fellows would dash out on their own to help save two strangers!" Professor Kukui remarks. "But I guess I'm getting ahead of myself. Welcome to Alola, the Pokémon paradise! That's what I'm supposed to be saying. I'm Kukui, yeah. The Pokémon Professor. People and Pokémon live and work together here in Alola, too. Don't you ever forget... You can go anywhere, yeah, as long as you have Pokémon in your corner! Wild Pokémon could be lurking in the tall grass, yeah, just waiting to leap out and bite you, but you'll be fine if you've got a partner of your own! Hey there! Here, let me introduce the Pokémon that helped you just now."
Then the two trainers shift their attention to the Pokémon before them. "This is the Grass-type Pokémon Rowlet. And the Fire-type Pokémon Litten. And the Water-type Pokémon Popplio. Y'see, the fact of the matter is... one of these Pokémon will become your first partner, woo! Heh... Maybe that's why they wanted to save you? Go on and choose the one you'd like to keep as your partner, cousin!"
In the end, Elio selects Litten while Selene opts for Popplio. "Those are some excellent choices you've made," I comment.
As the two trainers finally notice our presence, we decide to introduce ourselves. Selene exclaims, "Hold on, you're Ash and Lillie? The Sinnoh Champions who managed to defeat Cynthia?"
"Ah, so you've heard of us?" Lillie responds, slightly surprised. "Of course, we're from the Sinnoh Region," Elio adds. "We used to collaborate with Professor Berlitz and Professor Rowan for a while."
"That's awesome," Trenor chimes in.
Professor Kukui beams, "So you've chosen Litten and Popplio! What a fantastic-looking team you've got there! Now that you have Pokémon to battle with, you're officially Pokémon Trainers! Here are Poké Balls for Popplio and Litten. They'll be comfortable in there. Alright! Let's head up to Iki Town. Woo! It's time to meet the Island Kahuna!"
"The Island Kahuna?" We express confusion, prompting Professor Kukui to explain, "Actually, those partners you have are gifts from the kahuna, not from me. So let's go and express our gratitude properly, cousins. And who knows, there might be more surprises in store! Just so you know, the kahunas are extremely powerful Pokémon Trainers. Be cautious if you happen to engage in a battle with one!"
"That sounds really exciting," I remark with enthusiasm.
As we stroll along the road, Elio initiates a conversation, "So, what brings you guys to the Alola Region? Alola doesn't have a League, right?"
"No, it doesn't. However, Lillie is originally from Alola, and we're here to unwind and experience the unique Island Challenges," I explain.
"I've heard about them. I'm actually keen on trying out the Z-Moves as well," Selene chimes in with a smile.
As we continue on our path, a boy comes rushing toward us. I recognize him as Hau, as he was present in another dimension when we faced Ms. Lusamine.
"Hey, hey! Have you decided which Pokémon you're going to choose as your partner?" Hau eagerly asks before realizing, "Oh yeah! I'm Hau! I couldn't wait for us to pick our partners together, so I came looking for you myself!"
"Well, we've already made our choices..." Selene responds, displaying their Popplio and Litten.
"Whoa! Your Popplio and Litten are awesome! Wait, you've already picked your Pokémon?!" Hau exclaims in surprise.
"Apologies, Hau. We had a bit of an incident on the way here, so I let these two choose their partners before you," Professor Kukui explains.
"Fair enough. I guess it was meant to be for you guys to meet!" Hau sighs, then turns to Rowlet. "Then my partner will be... Rowlet! I choose you! Alola, buddy! I had already decided a long time ago that you're the one I wanted to go on adventures with! We're going to have an amazing journey together, just wait and see!"
"Wow, it's good to know that we didn't choose the one you wanted," Elio remarks.
After Hau requests a battle against Elio, Professor Kukui decides to heal their Pokémon first before the battle commences. Ultimately, Elio emerges victorious. "Wow! That was incredible, Elio! You and Litten were amazing! Battles should be all about having fun—for both the trainers and their Pokémon!"
"Right on! Both you and Hau brought out the best in your partners and executed some impressive moves," Professor Kukui praises. "Iki Town is just up those stairs!"
"Definitely swing by Iki Town!" Hau adds, leading the way forward.
As we reach Iki Town, Professor Kukui announces, "And here we are! Welcome to Iki Town! This town is a place of reverence for the Pokémon that watches over Melemele Island. Tapu Koko safeguards us all, ensuring our safety and happiness."
"Tapu Koko..." Lillie murmurs thoughtfully.
"But where's the Kahuna?" Selene inquires.
"It seems the kahuna is currently absent... There might be some trouble brewing on the island that needs their attention," Professor Kukui suggests.
"Yeah, the kahuna left without informing anyone, humming some little tune or the other. I'm going to swing by my house quickly. I have to show my mom Rowlet!" Hau announces with excitement before leaving.
"Hey, I've got an idea for you. If you head through the village and up the hill, you can visit the ruins that belong to Tapu Koko. That's our island's guardian deity, yeah. Why don't you go and introduce yourselves? If you're really lucky, maybe you'll even catch a glimpse of the guardian deity itself!" Hau suggests eagerly.
"Maybe we can also ask Tapu Koko about Nebby, right?" I propose to Lillie, who nods in agreement.
"I'll hang around here and keep an eye out in case the kahuna returns," Professor Kukui says as we embark on our journey toward the ruins.
As we progress, Lillie's bag begins shaking violently. "I know, I know. I'll take you to the ruins. Just stay in the bag, please. It wouldn't be good if anyone saw you," Lillie pleads with the bag.
"What's in your bag?" Elio asks curiously, and as we flinch in anticipation, Nebby suddenly emerges from the bag, surprising everyone. "Is that a Pokémon?" Selene questions in astonishment.
"It seems like the secret's out. Please, keep it between us," I request.
"Sure, but it seems that little one is in trouble," we gasp as we spot Nebby trapped on the bridge, fending off a group of Spearow trying to peck at it. "Pikachu! Use Thunderbolt!"
As Pikachu unleashes Thunderbolt, I swiftly move forward to shield the Spearow. "Ash, be careful... Your attack might have damaged the plank bridge," Lillie warns anxiously.
"Don't worry," I reassure Lillie confidently. However, as I move to shield Nebby, Nebby suddenly releases an immense power that drives away the Spearow but also leads to the bridge breaking, sending us plummeting.
"Ash!" Lillie screams in horror. In the midst of the chaos, I feel myself being saved by a Pokémon, and to my astonishment, I recognize it... Tapu Koko.
"Tapu Koko..." Trenor mutters, after I'm back on the ground, Tapu Koko stares at us before leaving. As Lillie embraces me tightly, she murmurs, "Oh... Oh, thank goodness! I thought I lost you!"
"You know I could've just flown back up without a problem, right?" I remark, furrowing my brow.
Lillie then turns her attention to Nebby, "You tried using your power again... didn't you? Oh, Nebby... You remember what happened last time you used it. You were unable to move for a long time afterward. I don't want to see you in that state again!"
Her expression shifts to one of regret, "No... I shouldn't say that. I'm sorry, Nebby... I know you were attempting to save me back then... And I couldn't even help you in return..."
Just then, Nebby discovers a stone lying on the ground, prompting Trenor to ask, "What is this?"
"A sparkling...stone? It feels oddly warm," I comment while holding the stone in my hand.
Lillie remarks, "I suppose... this stone must belong to you."
I decide to tuck the stone away, and Selene inquires, "So what exactly is Nebby? And why do you want to keep it a secret?"
"Nebby is a Legendary Pokémon, and there are people with ill intentions who are searching for it," I explain.
Lillie turns to Nebby, urging, "Come on, Nebby. Back into the bag."
After Nebby retreats into the bag, we make our way back to Iki Town, with Elio and Selene expressing their curiosity and desire to learn more about Nebby.
