Remus Lupin never thought he would be spending a Christmas without his friends. James and Lily were gone hunted by Voldemort even now, and no one is sure why he went to kill the Potters or how Harry survived the attack. Remus looked at Harry playing with the present bows under the Christmas tree. Sirius Black might have had a worse fate, locked up in Azkaban prison after murdering their mutual friend Peter Pettigrew.

Harry started to tear up one of his presents, "Hey, you little monster, you have to wait until tomorrow." Remus picked up the boy, who was now giggling, "But I want to know what you got me for Christmas!"

"Well, you have to wait, or the present will disappear," Remus explained to the young boy. "Now it's time to rest; don't want to scare away Father Christmas."

Harry jumped out of Remus' arms and ran to his room, with Remus falling close behind. "Night Harry."

"Night, Uncle Remus," The boy said as Remus turned off the lights and closed the bedroom door. Remus was now alone in his Muggle sitting room; he had owned the apartment since he left Hogwarts. It's much easier to find places to work and live when they don't believe in werewolves, He thought to himself. He placed enchantments on the home to stop unwanted visitors from showing up and interrupting him. Death Eaters still run around in the shadows, looking for any whisper of their master's return. Voldemort had disappeared the day he tried to attack Harry. Dumbledore said Voldemort was hiding away, waiting for the opportune moment to strike.

The fireplace erupted in blue flames as a man with long white hair and a beard emerged. "Ah, Dumbledore, just on time. Harry is just sleeping in his room. Thank you for coming tonight to watch him."

"Ah, no worries, old friend," Dumbledore said as he brushed soot off his cloak. With another wave goodbye, Remus was leaving his Apartment for a snow-filled evening.

He reappeared in an old small village where a church was singing; what a beautiful sound, He said to himself as he walked into the graveyard that lay beside the crumbling church. The snow kept falling as he walked, not a blizzard, but enough to chill your bones.

He finally came to some tombstones that read:

James and Lilly Potter 1960 - 1981

The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death

Remus teared up at these words; Sirius had picked the inscription for the graves, "They would never back down from anything," He said to Remus as the words were inscribed, and he agreed.

"I miss you two," Remus said to the stone. "I hope to raise your son to the best of my ability, and he already has James' crazy hair and the temperament of Lily's."

"I'll make sure to tell him when he's older how you both died to protect what you believed in. He will surely understand by then what love truly means. Remus was now on his knees, starting to tear up.

In the darkness, all you could hear was Remus crying above his friend's grave, never knowing how he would be able to raise their son to be better than anyone else. He would surely try, though, as he wasn't allowed to give up. He got up from the stone, conjuring flowers with his wand and walking away with new hope for the years to come and with a crack, he was gone.
