It had become something of a habit for Beast Boy and Raven to read in her room during the evenings, while they were occasionally interrupted by their duties as Hero's it was for the most part the quietest time of day for the pair. So it made sense. They could just focus on reading without many interruptions.
Though typically Garfield would be sure to head to his own room at around 11, he was fully aware he couldn't just sleep in a girls room overnight, and he wouldn't do that intentionally anyway.
A few hours earlier
In the end, Raven had ended up buying the book on ornithology she had found. Partially because she found it interesting and partially because it has gotten Beast Boy to open up a little more about his parents. She should have known the same thing wouldn't work twice.
Speaking of Beast Boy, he had begun working his way through the works of Agatha Christie and was currently sitting on the end of her bed, most of the way through 'The A.B.C. Murders'
"Aha! I knew it was Franklin!" He proclaimed proudly, earning a smirk from Raven.
"Oh yeah? How?"
"Well, he benefits the most. If his brother dies before he gets married, the money goes to him. Him making it look like the work or a random serial killer by killing other people was a clever plan though" He'd actually gotten pretty good at figuring out mystery books though he still wasn't much use working cases with Robin.
Real killers didn't follow the tropes in mystery novels.
"Impressive, though you realise you just spoiled it for me." Raven was teasing she'd read it before, but she wanted to see how he'd react.
"Oh uh… I'm sorry I didn't realise tha-"
"I'm joking, I called the twist when I read it as well." She could actually hear Beast Boy sigh in relief as she went back to her book.
Garfield finished the book in about twenty minutes before deciding to take a break for a moment, though he didn't want to interrupt Raven while she was focused on her own book. It was around 12. By this point, he should really start thinking about going back to his own room.
At some point, he fell asleep, and so did she neither of them could really tell when it had happened.
Raven would wake up first. He was pretty used to falling asleep while reading by this point, so she didn't even question why she had a book with her. Though there was one thing out of the ordinary. A rabbit was sleeping at the end of her bed, which was strange because she had no recollection of anyone in the Tower owning a rabbit, least of all her. Stranger still was the fact that this rabbit was green.
She let out a half-confused half-exhausted sigh. She supposed this was bound to happen sooner or later. Given how late he had been staying in her room, she'd still give him the benefit of the doubt and assume this wasn't intentional.
She didn't dare get changed while he was in the room even if he was asleep, so she just fixed her hair before flipping through one of her books.
A few hours later, Beast Boy began to stir in his sleep. He stared for a moment in confusion at the unfamiliar ceiling before it fully registered that he was not in his room.
"Morning Beast Boy." He looked up in the direction of the voice, jumping awake and shifting back into his human form.
"Raven! I am so sorry I didn't mean to -" He stammered, but she simply waved her hand.
"Relax, it's fine, I know it was an accident. It's about 7 am. Is this when you normally get up?"
Garfield stretched in an animalistic manner akin to a dog before standing up. "Yeah, more or less, though sometimes I sleep in,"
"Good, would you like some tea?"
"Oh, uh, sure, thank you." He placed his book back on the shelf before heading over to her. She poured some tea for herself as well as a cup for him.
As he took a sip, he felt the warmth of the drink wash over him, clearing up and feelings of drowsiness. "So," He began. "How long have you been awake?"
"Since about five or so." She answered simply as if that were normal.
Huh? He was sure they'd fallen asleep at midnight at the absolute earliest. You've only had 5 hours of sleep? Despite this, she seemed absolutely fine. Did she always do this?
Raven finished her tea before tidying away a few books, and once Beast Boy had finished his own cup, she pointed him to the door. "I need to get dressed for the day. You should head to your room and do the same."
He did as he was told, but unfortunately, his timing couldn't be worse. He opened the door just as Stafire was passing by. He froze in his tracks, and there was a moment of hesitation before Starfire took off in the other direction.
"I am sorry for intruding!"
Well, that was the last thing he needed. The other Titans had obviously noticed he and Raven were getting along better, but he didn't want them to get the wrong idea about them. They were friends, nothing more. He decided not to tell Raven Starfire had seen him for the time being hoping he could just resolve this between himself and Kori
Even if him going into her room at night and not leaving until the next day didn't exactly jive with that image. Still, every cloud has a silver lining. This was Starfire all. She wasn't as educated on earth customs as Robin or Cyborg. Maybe she didn't even see it as inappropriate, though her reaction certainly suggested otherwise.
Beast Boy didn't have time to dwell on that now as he has to get changed and get ready for the day, he was fairly sure Starfire wouldn't say anything but he wanted to explain himself nonetheless.
He asked Starfire if he could talk to her after breakfast, and she agreed. She understood this conversation should be private, so the pair headed to the roof.
Before he could even get a word in, Starfire took hold of his hands with an uncharacteristically serious expression. "Garfield, Rachel is a dear friend to me, and I ask that you take good care of her."
"Huh? Oh wait, tha-" He stammered to clear up the misunderstanding, but he was once again interrupted.
"I see, so that's what's going on, huh? I've noticed you two seemed closer." Robin's voice echoed from behind one of the crates on the landing pad. How did a guy clad in Christmas Colours sneak around so well?
"Like I was about to say that isn't."
"I can see it, you two make a pretty good couple, but I hope you understand you can't let your feelings hinder your efficiency during missions" Robin was already lecturing him he knew trying to interrupt him wouldn't do any good.
"Promise you will take excellent care of Raven." Stafire repeated, honestly. Beast Boy felt a little mithered
"Sure, I will, but -"
"Splendid, You and Raven should join me and Robin for dinner tomorrow, I have always wanted to try these Double Dates I've seen on TV"
In the end, he was never able to clear up that misunderstanding. He could barely get a word in, and now apparently, he had to go on a double date? He'd never imagine something like this could happen outside of a sitcom.
He decided to just bite the bullet and tell Raven she could help him clear things up.
Honestly, this whole thing was kind of annoying him. Why couldn't a guy and girl just hang out without people speculating like that? Were platonic relationships really so hard to imagine. Not that there was anything wrong with Raven, of course, but since everything that had happened with Terra, he'd sworn to try and steer clear of Romance.
He reluctantly dragged himself to Raven's door before knocking.
"Oh, did you forget something?"
"Starfire saw me come out of your room earlier." He just decided to be straight about it. No use beating around the Bush. "I tried to tell her that I had been in there by accident, and now she thinks we're in a relationship. Oh, and so does Robin." Raven looked at him blankly as he explained the empath seemed slightly amused by the situation. She simply sighed before gesturing for him to follow her.
She told him to wait before going to talk to Starfire, coming back a few minutes later. "Good news and bad news. The good news is, I cleared everything up, and she apologised for interrupting you, but the bad news is, Robin already booked the table, so we have to go anyway."
Curse his efficiency, Beast Boy thought to himself, all though he probably should have expected that. Of course, this wasn't a real date, but he could tell it was going to be extremely awkward.
Cyborg, however, found the situation absolutely hilarious when he found out about it later.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm an idiot are you happy? It's just hard to get a word in with those two"
"Well, yeah, Robin kinda just goes along with whatever Star says sometimes." Cyborg patted him on the back, perhaps a little too hard. "So, are you looking forward to your date?"
"Like I said It's not a real date,"
"Yeah, yeah, whatever, what're you gonna wear, romeo?" Beast Boy couldn't help but feel like Cyborg was making fun of him.
"What I always wear, does it matter?" He brushed off the question, turning to leave, but he was stopped by the partially metal man.
"Yes it does, that settles it, I'm gonna have to help you look your best, it'll be tough but artists can't always choose the finest clay" He patted Garfield over the head glossing over the insult.
"Yeah, I'm pretty sure you just called me ugly, not that I even need your help anyway,"
"Trust me, you do. Meet me at 4 o'clock tomorrow, and if you don't show, I'll track you down."
Beast Boy sighed in defeat. Honestly, there was no point arguing with people in this tower. He didn't feel like hiding from Cyborg all afternoon tomorrow, so he'd go along with it for now.
Hey been a minute yeah sorry about the wait, I had it mostly written for a while and was trying to think of a way to finish it, at the time of writing this I'm feeling pretty ill but hopefully this still makes sense.
Anyway, be sure to review that's it bye.
