Over the next week, things didn't get any less frosty between the two of them.

Jade didn't know how it was possible but Beck was distancing himself even further from her than he already had. He stopped hanging out with their friends if she was there. He wouldn't even look at her if they crossed paths in the hallway at school.

And it was maddening because the more he pulled away, the more she thought about him.

When she realized he had gone so far to switch out of the creative writing class they had together she was indignant and honestly upset. She couldn't concentrate for the entire class and barely wrote more than three sentences. Her acrimony growing with every passing second.

After class, she walked over to the asphalt. Tori, Andre, Cat and Robbie were all there at the usual table. Tori was in the middle of some kind of dramatic story so Jade took the opportunity to sit down next to Andre.

"Have you seen Beck today?" she lowered her voice, trying not to attract the attention of any of the others.

"Uh, yeah this morning why?" Andre replied. She gritted her teeth. Okay, so Beck was definitely avoiding her, but fucking why?! They had been broken up almost five months at this point so he had no right to do this? Sure she had rejected him but why did he get to be the victim, every fucking time?

"I've not seen him in like two days," she said gruffly.

"I don't think he wants to see you right now," Andre grimaced. "Do you want me to pass on a message?"

"No, forget it," Jade stood up.

"Jade, hold up." Andre called after her. By this point, the others had picked up on something being wrong but she didn't turn back. She knew she was ready to explode.

"Jade!" Cat chased after her, catching up with her at her locker. She was crying - the angry kind and all she wanted was to be alone.

Cat looked at her in concern.

"Hey, talk to me,"

"Cat, I don't want to! I don't want to talk about this!" She grabbed her stuff and slammed her locker door closed furiously.

"Why?" Cat asked calmly.

"Because this is killing me!" She yelled back. She took a moment to breathe and wiped the disobedient tears away from her cheeks.

"Beck just needs some space," Cat said softly. "Don't be sad."

"I can't help it. He is my person and I am-" She stopped and held her hand to her heart, squeezing her damp eyes closed. "Please, I can't say it again. I don't want to talk about Beck. I don't want to talk about this."

The wound had well and truly been reopened. She had been doing fine. So why was she crying at school?

She might not actually hate him, but she hated how he was making her feel. How he was still withdrawing and she was still scrambling around like an idiot, clinging onto whatever scraps he gave her. She couldn't do this. She walked away.

"Where are you going?" Cat called after her.

"Home."

"But we have Sikowitz this afternoon."

"I dont give a shit!"

Her anger was misplaced and she knew yelling at Cat would only make her feel worse in the long run. She left before she made things any worse.
