Elysian Realm, 12th division barracks, unknown research lab.

Gray eyes stared intently upon the item placed on the table, one of many prototypes, but if successful, a blueprint for what would be a monumental success.

Magic circles, formulas, and tools monitored and assisted the process in completing the task at hand, even as the item gave off dangerous readings as it resisted the process it was going through. Ominous energy crashed wildly against the barriers, their purpose to prevent it from harming the researchers along with protecting the lab from damage.

Still, based on the readings, he will have to up the power being put into the barrier, for even now, slight cracks could be seen within, the rampant malicious energies clearly being more intense than expected. Well, so far, it was within his expectations, and he would make do with what he had as they were at a critical moment. He would not allow such precious material to go to waste.

"Report." He stated calmly.

"My lord, subject 04-1 is attempting to erode prototype S-071. Arcane energies are spiking as it is attempting to escape containment. Requesting to increase reality anchors to combat chaotic tampering within the area of subject 04-1." A researcher quickly announced.

"Granted." Immediately afterwards space fluctuated and bent as the area within suddenly shifted and calmed the efforts of subject 04-1 from affecting the area with its presence. Its rampant energies colliding fiercely with the barrier as it struggled to break the seal that trapped it.

"Reality stabilizing, Seal upholding within safe parameters, Prototype S-071 upholding at 90.77% integrity." Another researcher called out as they faced the monitor.

"More than I expected." Brief surprise flashed in the man's eyes as they heard the report. After all, from past experiments, the most they had succeeded was in keeping 45% integrity and even then, it still failed in fulfilling its intended dual purpose as serving as an idealized medium of containment and a weapon to be used by a chosen wielder.

Looking at his side briefly, he saw the man that stood next to him, observing the experiment with no less awe and wonder in his eyes then when he first proposed the idea to him.

"It appears your research on this subject has helped me greatly, hopefully this time we'll be able to see results." He called out to the man who broke away from his observations.

"Of course! I have spent many centuries looking into this, but, I'll have to admit…your materials are a bit different than I had expected, I wouldn't dare to call what we are making as 'sacred' or the like." It was at that point that the man rubbed his goatee, his mind elsewhere as he thought over what they were doing here in the first place. Slight disgust flashed in his eyes as he felt the rampant energies clashing with the cage that held subject 04-1.

"To think that you guys would put them to use like this." He scoffed, though a slightly mad gleam flashed in his eyes for a moment as a smirk once more found a way to his face.

"I should not expect anything less than this from your illustrious self, your majesty, Kisuke Urahara, Monarch of Reason." The goateed man praised him, his eyes trailing back to his companion, and fellow researcher.

Gray eyes stared at him, before a nonchalant smile grew on his face. "Your praise is unneeded, Azazel, after all, you have played a key role in assisting us to improve our chances. All we can do now is await the results and hope they bear fruit." Kisuke stated, returning his attention back to the experiment that was close to the last stages.

The goateed man revealed to be the Governor of the Fallen Angels and Grigori, Azazel, shook his head at seeing the Monarch deflect his praise. Still, one could not help but admire the genius that was the Monarch of Reason, truly a kindred soul if there ever was one. For few could appreciate their genius and only take their work for granted as many have before.

Still, for what purpose was a fallen angel associating itself with a Monarch of all things. Especially after the divine decree of heaven to report any and all traces of the Monarchs presence as well as the order to hunt them if possible. As ill-advised as the latter option was.

"Please, given enough time, you would have eventually managed to find the answer to your problem, if anything I just sped things along. From when we first started, you all were already on the right track, but stumbled into a few problems along the way that otherwise, impeded your work briefly." Azazel conceded.

"Besides, from my point of view, I stand to gain more from you then you have from me, after all, you have something that even I could never hope to create, even if I was given all the resources available to do so." He declared, his eyes shifting towards Kisuke, who was listening to him as he stared at the barrier.

"If you are worried that I will go back on my word, fear not, you will be rewarded as we agreed, if nothing else, I did indeed gain much from you, so I naturally will reciprocate what I was given." Kisuke declared.

"Oh, worry not, I never doubted you anyways, after all, you above all respect the notion of fair exchange. I'm only giving as much as the value of what you are giving me, if anything, I feel like I'm cheating you out of a great deal." Azazel remarked, his tone jovial though not without his usual snark.

Shaking his head in amusement, Kisuke shifted his focus back to the experiment, all thoughts of their conversation on hold as stage 2 was complete.

"Your Majesty, stage 2 is complete, should we move on with stage 3?" A researcher asked, though slight apprehension could be heard in their voice.

"…Prepare for integration." Kisuke finally gave the order after a moment.

"At your order, preparing stage 3. Attention all personnel, be advised, stage 3 is now in progress, increasing safety/security measures from grade 1 to grade 2. Lockdown procedures in progress, as well as requesting that all security forces be ready for breach containment with reinforcements standing by." Announcement after announcement was heard as the lab personnel got to work, all the while foot soldiers from the 11th division took position at key locations, while seated officers barked orders to them.

"Out of curiosity what rank is exactly subject 04-1 again?" Azazel asked as he observed the security and safety measures move into action.

"Upper tier - Ruler class Horror." Kisuke informed.

Raising an eyebrow, Azazel let out a low whistle as he looked at the barrier in a new light. "Damn, how'd you get that mean bastard in there, I'd imagine it was a difficult endeavor." Azazel mused.

"As you can expect, we lost a few good people, but, now we can make sure that their sacrifices weren't in vain. Besides, this one has been in the Prison of Elders long enough, it is time it faces judgement today." Kisuke decreed.

"And what better way than to use it as an experimental subject for one of your inventions, am I right." Azazel mused.

"Hmm, it was that or execution at the hands of the Monarch of Shadows." Kisuke shrugged. "I just feel it's better to use our resources wisely, even the ancient monstrosities will serve a purpose now." Kisuke stated.

"Fair enough." Azazel agreed.

Shifting their focus back to the experiment, both Kisuke and Azazel watched as subject 04-1 was being prepared for the integration process. Though what exactly did they hope to happen, just what was this experiment about?

Simple really.

Long has the Monarch of Reason looked for new ways to elevate human kind, be it magical or technological. Innovation was something Kisuke always strived for, and even now he did so by trying to encroach upon the territory of the Gods. Kisuke in all his wisdom, strived to create a weapon, that could take the simplest of humans, and elevate them to a higher level. Much akin to the Heavenly Father and his Sacred Gears that have otherwise proven useful to humanity and reduce the distance between them and the supernatural forces.

But even those artifacts were not enough.

Far in their absence, the Monarchs have lost contact with their people left behind on earth, so even know, they barely had a presence in their homeworld. Much of what they knew was gone and defaced, a remnant of what they were. Unguided and blind towards the truth.

Even the tools given to them were squandered, and used not in defense of humanity, but as self-fulfilling items to elevate themselves above the rest, all for what little power they could gather. While the Biblical God had his heart in the right place in aiding them, it is sad to see that the gift he gave them was wasted.

Evermore as the supernatural forces took those chosen as their own, their allegiance to them, and not humanity as it was intended.

With the devils as the greatest offenders as they not only tempted humans to join them, but converted them into their despicable race.

Make no illusions, while they had no problem with the current state of affairs going on with the devils as a whole after centuries. It was still far too soon to say that they would even consider them as non-hostile. For no matter how many times a snake sheds its skin, a snake remains a snake.

Still, some leniency and tolerance are expected, and far be it for them to fire the first shot when the number of enemies they had was already as high as it was.

No need to add to the number.

Getting off topic.

His true purpose for otherwise, copying the sacred gears was one of many reasons, for much like how God saw potential in the idea, so too did Kisuke, but, with certain differences.

Namely the materials involved.

For there was nothing sacred about the process.

To strip something of its power.

To strip something of its body.

To strip something of its identity.

All in an effort to mold it into a blank slate, one devoid of anything but its intended purpose.

Even these creatures born of hatred and madness with their only goal being the destruction of all things.

Take that away and what are they left with?

A Tool?

An item?

A weapon?

They are what role we give them.

Stripped of everything that they are, they will be whatever he desires of them, and he would make sure of it.

"Begin." The order left his lips.

Immediately afterwards the seal that contained Subject 04-1 was released. Magic circles flared as they fulfilled their purpose, lighting up the room as they guided the untamed power of Subject 04-1 into Prototype S-071.

The process was as follows.

Stage 1: Reshape – admittedly the messiest process, but the easiest. By taking the subjects body, it is promptly and efficiently, molded into a blank slate, taking all that is useful and remolding it into an item that can will take on any form depending on who its user is.

Stage 2: Hollow – Arguably the most difficult part of the entire process. Stripping the conscious of its body left it as an otherwise well of unsupervised power and rage. So, it is encased in a seal that draws in its "soul" if it can even be called that. Perhaps its "Ego" was a better suited word. Regardless this process entails to dismantle that "Ego" and deface it to the point that it is no longer an identity. For lack of a better word, it is devoid of personality and individuality, erased from existence.

Stage 3: Integrate – the final process, with the greatest cause for error and damage. Unsealing all that unguided power and its unique traits, depending on how strong the subject was initially, the process can be…hazardous. Bridging a way for that untamed power that can and will attack anything at will, or disperse with no will to guide it, as well as lose its effective yield, therefore reducing the final product in value. But, through a careful process, they can guide it towards the blank slate by siphoning it from within the barrier, as the blank slate acts as the seal for the power being shoved into it.

In the end, it can either be easy, or difficult depending on the strength of the subject.

Unfortunately for them, subject 04-1 was a tough bastard till the very end.

"Barrier integrity at 55.4%" a researcher informed.

"4 minutes and 30 seconds till complete integration." Another one said.

"Increasing siphoning strength, heavy resistance from subject 04-1" multiple reports progressed as the untamed power slammed against the barrier time after time. Outside security merely gulped as they looked upon the vestige of Subject 04-1, its power holding the form of what it once was. An amalgamation of power that gave form to a giant snake like being, shrouded in a misty black and with hints of red within its body.

Though it was now nothing more than a shadow of what it was, with its body being reduced into that of an orb that will serve as its prison. The untamed power devoid of an ego sought all things as enemies, so not much change from what it previously was. Still, unique properties that made up its existence could be lost, and that was not something anyone wished. So, in order to have 100% integration, they had to siphon that power quickly and efficiently.

With the best outcome being within 5 minutes of the process.

"Barrier integrity at 50.6%" another call resounded.

"4 minutes till complete integration."

"Hmm, at this rate, we might not be able to collect all of its power before barrier gives." Azazel mused as he watched the process.

"It will, besides I've long prepared for this." Kisuke informed him, as soon enough, chains sprang from within the barrier, colliding directly with the vestige of subject 04-1. Completely coiling around it, and restricting all movement like it was stuck in a stasis field.

"Hoh~ interesting, what are those chains exactly?" He could see that power was being siphoned from the vestige, through the chains and speeding the process along, for the rate of absorption was being funneled into the prototype quickly and efficiently.

"A little invention of mine, I've long learned to not leave anything to chance. These chains act as both a sealing spell, and a siphoning one, acting in tandem as they immobilize and weaken the target, if anything I took inspiration from Vrita." Kisuke explained proudly.

"Interesting, though, I imagine the cost is great, especially with immobilizing a Ruler class Horror" Azazel mused.

"I'll admit that I had them made of primordial energy, my own power, otherwise, the chaotic nature of these beings would corrode the chains much faster if I used other sources of power." Kisuke admitted though, a smirk did find its way to his face as he saw the progress moving along nicely and without issue.

Still, best to not lower one's guard.

After all, a Ruler class horror, even as reduced as it was after the experiment, was a devastating force of destruction. They were the generals and champions within the forces of the adversary, the greatest threats bar the Emperor class horrors, though they were few and far between, it didn't stop them from being major threats to life and creation as a whole as their very presence was anathema to all things in existence.

All things that and will go wrong must be accounted for, that is what Kisuke believed whenever engaging a ruler class horror.

Still, he should count himself lucky that he had improved security and the barriers within along with various contingencies in place should they fail. Having learned this from his past three failures that resulted in him having to interfere directly and reduce casualties.

Not his greatest moment but a lesson well learned while exploring new territory.

"2 minutes left till complete integration."

"Huh, guess this time things will go on without a hitch." Azazel commented as he watched the energy lifeform start to lose luster as its power was being siphoned to the prison of its own body.

"Did you expect anything less from me?" Kisuke joked.

"I wouldn't dare, still, I had hoped for a show, a bit of letdown, but oh well. The process itself was interesting to watch." Azazel replied.

"Then you should have seen the first time I attempted this, it didn't even go past stage 2 before I was forced to destroy the subject." Kisuke confessed.

Caught in their conversation, the two suddenly switched back as the vestige had finally been completely sealed within prototype S-071.

"Integration process complete, success rate…100%" A researcher bellowed to his companions who suddenly cheered as they finally managed to succeed after many trials and failures.

Looking at the screen, Kisuke had a grin on his face as he saw the success rate. It would appear that nothing was wasted as he had predicted. Hopefully now he would move on to the testing phase now that he had a working prototype.

"Congratulations, Kisuke Urahara, you have achieved what only one other has before." Azazel applauded him.

"Your thanks are welcomed, though I should also be thanking you, for without your insights, we wouldn't have gotten this far in such short time. So, for this, you have my respect, Azazel." Urahara praised him.

"I appreciate the sentiment, though I do have a question, just what exactly are you going to name this…tool of yours." Azazel questioned, his eyes looking at the orb that theoretically will adjust its form to that which was most suitable for the wielder.

"Good question, I hadn't thought that far yet, though I feel like I got a name in mind now that you mention it." Walking out of the viewing center, Kisuke and Azazel entered the testing lab that held Prototype S-071. The barrier finally coming down as they approached the orb situated on a pedestal in the center. Black and red energy coursed through it, yet it pulsed like that of a beating heart.

Grasping the orb in hand, Kisuke looked upon it with wonder, its surface smooth yet humming with power that just wished to be released. Still, as its creator, Kisuke would make sure that the final product worked as it was intended.

It was only on his hands for a few moments, before a blinding light enveloped the room briefly as the orb shined with power.

"Woah! a warning next time." Azazel exclaimed as he looked away briefly, though upon recovering his sight, Azazel noticed something thin waving aimlessly in the air around him.

"Strings…" he trailed off as he saw what looked like thin red strings all over the area. All converging around the Monarchs right and left hands.

Moving his hand, Azazel moved to touch it before being stopped by the Monarch of Reason.

"Don't touch them unless you want to die instantly." Kisuke warned him, though he appeared transfixed by the shape the orb had taken. It would appear strings were Kisuke's most suited weapon of choice.

"What do you mean?" Azazel questioned but otherwise adhered to his warning, his finger only a mere inch away from prodding the thin red strings.

"…Subject 04-1 had a special ability to cause instant death by merely cutting something, even the shallowest of wounds would cause the curse inlaid within to activate. That amongst other curses it was capable of unleashing. One of the reasons it was deemed such a high priority to eliminate so many years ago, though we eventually settled on sealing it away within the prison of elders as we later learned it could 'deny' its own death by certain means within its curses. While a monarch could have killed it easily enough, at the time we were too preoccupied by other matters." Kisuke revealed as he inspected the strings that otherwise were just the perfect tool to cause untold slaughter.

"Ah, yeah I can see why touching them would be a problem." Nervously pulling back his finger, Azazel made a mental note to watch out for the future wielder of this "cursed" gear.

Satisfied with his current findings, Kisuke deactivated the tool as it shifted back into an orb of pulsing power.

"It would appear my work here has finally progressed, all thanks to your efforts." Kisuke praised Azazel. "Now I can focus on refining the process even more, as well as finding suitable individuals for these…Teigu." Kisuke informed him, a satisfied look on his face.

"Teigu? Imperial arms? Is that what you are calling these…accursed things." Azazel questioned.

"Yes, fitting is it not." Placing the orb on the pedestal, Kisuke's gaze lingered on it as he continued. "For those that have opposed us, for those that have brought great calamity and suffering to us, to our empire. It is only irony that they be used to not only work in rebuilding it, but to use it against those that wish to bring us harm as well." He said, his eyes hardening as memories of bygone eras flashed in his gray eyes. Azazel could see the determination within those eyes, and something else…

"In the end, all I do, everything that I have done, is and will always be, for the greater good of humanity." Kisuke solemnly said as he turned to face azazel who remined silent.

"…"

It was in that awkward silence when Azazel coughed in order to get things back on track.

"…Yes, I can see that, after all, you have all gone through so much since your inception. Still, I hope that your overarching goals wont lead you all astray, god that is the last thing we need at this time." Azazel sighed.

"Hmm, well, it is still early to say. Still, you need not worry, Azazel, for it is not you who will be at the end of our sword, at the very least, that is your choice to make." Kisuke shrugged. Unbothered by Azazel's reaction.

"You have done your part, and as we agreed, I will reward you for your efforts. Follow me." Like that, Kisuke turned around and began walking out, while Azazel trailed behind. Though as he looked back towards the teigu, he couldn't help but wonder if he had done the right thing, if he had somehow just tipped the precarious scale that barely held the balance between peace and a start of a new war.

A war of reclamation.

Sigh*

"In the end we all do things for the benefit of our own, and I 'am no different." Like that Azazel followed silently behind the Monarch.

His glittering prize awaited him after all.

Brave souls.

Heroes of legends, warriors of untold might, heralds of the Monarchs authority. They are the tip of the spear, the shield and armor, they are the glorious and everlasting might of humanity, the best of the best, for they represent the pinnacle of what mere mortals can achieve.

All in the service of their lords.

Through dedication, loyalty, and will to the organization, these warriors can challenge the test set forth by a Monarch in order to prove their worth. Should they come out victorious, they would be given the highest form of honor that can be bestowed upon them by the Monarchs.

To be "Knighted."

A grand ritual before all of the denizens of the capitol, the warrior is "knighted" by the chosen Monarch they wish to serve. Should they agree, the Monarch in question takes a piece from their source, a shard of transcendence to link and bind them to their will and authority forevermore. In return, the brave soul ascends to a higher level of power, sharing a fraction of the Monarchs authority they are bonded to. To be given power, to be elevated above what they could hope to achieve within their lifetime.

Few have ever been bestowed such an honor.

And now as Azazel looks upon the orb before him, the shimmering crystallized creation of a Monarchs source, a mere shard of that power was enough to elevate a mere mortal to that of a god.

Just the thought of what he could do with such power had his heart trembling with excitement. Still, as he beheld the orb a different thought crossed his mind, a certain image of a white-haired young man, his son in all but name.

"I wonder how he would react if I gave this to him…" Azazel thought as he inspected the orb that Kisuke presented before him.

"So, this is that which you grant upon those brave souls of yours?" Azazel mused.

Standing of to the side, Kisuke looked towards Azazel with amused eyes. For he could see just how much Azazel coveted that little manifestation of their power. A mere shard of their grace. But, one that would indeed elevate anyone if given the chance.

Still, perhaps he should instruct the old crow lest he bring ruin on himself.

"Indeed." Picking up the orb, the power within pulsed at his touch, yet as he inspected it, a nostalgic look flickered across his eyes. "A piece of our power, manifested and crystallized within an orb, given to those that have proven themselves to be most worthy to stand at our side and have carved their way into the annals of history within our empire. Legends in the flesh." Kisuke explained.

"Few will ever receive that honor, and fewer will ever be able to accomplish the feat to be given this power." Kisuke mused.

"After all, a brave soul is an aspect of us, they who had willingly become one with us, they are our pride and glory, to carry out our will. For wherever they go, know that we walk with them." listening to the Monarch praise such individuals, Azazel gained a newfound respect for the brave souls, still if what he is saying is true then…

"Would this bind the one I wish to gift this to, to the will of the Monarchs?" Azazel questioned. Though the orb was invaluable, its power a great boon, it was not without its restrictions. To place one of the few people he truly cared about in a servient position to a higher power was not something Azazel wished, even if the pros outweigh the cons. Plus, he doubted Vali would be impressed with him if he told him that he was entering into a sort of contract with beings that he had never heard about, much less if he knew he would be bound to their whims.

"…No, you won't need to worry about that." Kisuke claimed as he beheld the orb, a forlorn look briefly forming on his face before giving way to indifference as he schooled his features.

"This one is not one of ours, neither of the current active Monarchs claim dominion over this one." Kisuke revealed to Azazel.

"Huh? I thought these where made with the source of a Monarch? If it's not any of yours, then who could have made it?" it was as he let that sentence slip through his lips that sudden realization hit him like a ton of bricks.

He couldn't help but audibly gulp as he let his gaze rest on the orb, its innocent glow shimmering within its crystallin container. The Monarch also gazed upon it, his mask of detachment slightly cracking as brief sadness made itself present within his gray eyes.

"…it was a gift, from an old friend." Kisuke began. "He came to me one day, seeking my council." His eyes clouded over as memories flashed in his mind. "I didn't know it at the time, but, that was the last time I ever saw him, looking back now, I wish I could have given him a few more words of wisdom." Shaking his head, a sad smile formed on his face as he inspected the orb.

"Did you know, he only ever made 3, and of those 3 only 2 were ever used." Kisuke revealed to Azazel who listened intently. After all, Kisuke was revealing to him just who this orb belonged to, and he could feel his hands tremble from the weight of that knowledge. He who had felled the snake, he who had brought humanity from the brink of annihilation, to then create an empire. He who had led the offensive on the adversary's armies, he who vanquished countless monsters and horrors, and paved his way through the stars in a trail of blood.

He who had wrought the adversary from his scarlet throne, and sealed his armies to the ends of the world.

Champion.

Hero.

Vanquisher.

Many a title he had earned.

Yet all knew him by one name.

"The Monarch of Victory." Awe seeped into his voice as he uttered that name. An image of an orange haired man flashed in his mind, his back to him before momentarily shifting to his face that turned to face him and flashed him a brief smile. One of the few interactions he ever had with the Monarch himself.

"The one and only." Kisuke nodded. Seeing Azazel's reaction brought a small smile to his face, still he should focus on the task at hand.

"In his words, he never needed anyone to fight his battles for him, he only ever made 2 brave souls out of necessity when the war was at its height; with his two most trusted warriors taking the role. Out of those 2 only 1 remains at our side, the other has been lost to us for centuries now." Kisuke expression turned tired as he thought of something, though soon his steely gaze settled on Azazel upon his next words.

"His final task for me when he gave me this, was to find someone worthy of carrying on with his legacy." His hands clenched around the orb.

"…I have yet found anyone capable of fulfilling that role." His voice dripped with an edge that surprised Azazel.

"No one?" Azazel questioned.

"…"

Kisuke remained silent for a moment before unclenching his hand, the orb once more shimmering its gentle glow over the room.

"…I don't know why he chose me, but, in my eyes, no one is worthy! no one is capable enough! no one has burned as bright as him for me to judge them capable of wielding the last memento he left for us!" Kisuke in a rare display of passion voiced out his thoughts, causing Azazel to take a surprised step back.

"…for years I have carried on with that task, even as others have taken on the role of brave souls. Even my own would not be deserving of the role of carrying the banner of victory." Kisuke admitted.

Sigh*

"Sometimes, I wonder if he had played a cruel joke on me, for me to find someone capable of wielding his power, knowing damn well I would never approve of anyone less than perfect." Kisuke expressed his annoyance.

"I have seen many talented individuals in my years, some who have become or will become pillars of prosperity in our glorious empire, yet, I, in my judgement could never see them as good enough for what "he" wished of me to do." Confessing this to an outsider would cause the other Monarchs to question his sanity. But should they find out what he was about to do, he feared his colleagues would not take kindly to his choice.

"Which is why, I give this to you, you who holds an unbiased view, someone who has seen a glimpse of his magnificence and wasn't blinded like me." Kisuke held his palm out before Azazel.

"if you think yourself capable of fulfilling the task he left for me, take it, and do not squander the chance given to you." The seriousness in his voice brought down the enormity of the situation down on Azazel who felt his legs weight him down as he beheld the orb.

The last remaining remnant of what was once the greatest being known throughout all of creation.

Dare he say he can find someone capable of wielding this power?

Once more the visage of his "son" filled his mind.

"Yes…if its him, I know he will rise to prominence sooner or later, and when he does…" his eyes steeled as his nerves settled. The weight that held him back loosened as he felt his legs regain their footing, his hands clenched around the orb, his choice made.

"…who would dare deny him then."

Seeing Azazel take the last shred of transcendence of what was his dearest friend, a feeling of loss and relief overcame Kisuke in a bittersweet moment. The burden he carried was no longer his, yet, he had given away the last piece of his friend in order to fulfill a task he would never have been able to accomplish.

"It's for the best…" he thought to himself as he fought the urge to go back on his words. Years of looking through the many capable men and woman had worn on his mind, to find someone that could live up to what the Monarch of victory embodied. Yet, he never could bring himself to accept that anyone like him could come into being again. To make him relive that same feeling when he first met him, the hope he inspired within him when he had all but given up.

"This burden is now yours, I entrust my mission to you." Placing his hand on Azazel's shoulder, Kisuke leaned in and looked him dead in the eyes.

"May the one you choose not be found wanting…" With that, Kisuke released a surprised Azazel as he moved a few steps back.

"You won't have to worry about that, though he is immature still, he has shown time and time again that no matter the challenge ahead, he always finds a way to prevail. An unyielding spirit, with an even more headstrong personality." Azazel assured the Monarch, a confident smile finding its way onto his face.

"I'll hold you to that then, Azazel."

Time would tell if his choice was the right one.

"And are you certain of his intentions?" the man questioned, his smooth voice sounded…pensive, for something of great importance had fallen on his lap.

"From what I've gathered, I could detect no lie, as well as the fact that no one could mistake such…passion, the way he did when talking about the young lady." The woman informed him, her silver eyes not giving anything away despite being in his presence.

"Hmm…" turning to face the window, the man brought a hand to his chin as he contemplated the news brought to him. Though soon, a smirk could be seen slowly forming on his face as his blue-green eyes twinkled in mischief and the gears in his mind whirled as plans and schemes started formulating.

"How interesting. To think that my dearest sister would end up catching the fancy of such an infamous figure. Though I can't say I blame him, he has great taste after all." Sirzech proudly proclaimed, after all, who on this world was as charming and enchanting as his little sister? no one that's who.

Ahem*

"Ah! But of course, my dearest wife is just as beautiful, not even the stars dare outshine your beauty." He quickly spouted as he sat upright in his chair.

"…Sirzechs, what are you on about? stop messing around and take this seriously." Grayfia sighed as she beheld her husband and lord who had lost himself in his thoughts again.

Cough*

"Right. Anyways, I believe this presents me with an opportunity." Tapping the armrest, a sly smile could be seen on his face.

"Oh, and what would that be?" Grayfia questioned with a raised brow, wondering what machinations her husband was concocting within that mind of his.

"I say, we give the red dragon emperor a chance to prove his worth." He began. "After all, he dared to say he would take on the entirety of the underworld to keep my sister. I say let him prove his conviction to the task." He remarked.

"Is that wise?" Grayfia seemed doubtful.

"If your account on his power is to be believed and I have no reason to doubt you, then he should be more than up for the task, willing or not." He dismissed her concern. "After all, at the end of the day, he is a man, and what is a man without his word. If he truly fancies my little sister than what better way to show it than by pitting him against those that have conspired against me and my family." He proclaimed, surprising Grayfia in the process as she realized what her husband intended.

"W-wait a second! You're not seriously thinking of acting out against the noble's faction, are you?" Grayfia alarmed by this, couldn't help but exclaim her incredulity at her husband's boldness.

"Me? Oh dearest of course not~ it won't be me doing the striking, but the red dragon emperor. I'll just guide the knife that will draw first blood." A hint of malice could be detected within that cheery tone of his, worrying Grayfia even more at what he was setting in motion.

"Sirzech!" Grayfia cried out, clearly her husband had finally lost it.

"Now now, settle down, it's not as bad as it seems." He defended. "if certain variables are taken into place and actors play their role, all should be well, and knowing my "grandfather" he will no doubt take the bait presented, after all, he is not someone that likes having his authority challenged." No doubt once he spread the word, the noble's faction that was led by his grandfather; Zekram Bael, would more likely react by challenging the red dragon emperor.

"Besides, I'm not aiming for their destruction, but for them to know their place." He huffed. "While, they may respect the authority of the four Satans, that doesn't mean they haven't been pushing their luck as of late." Shaking his head, his frown deepened.

"I'll take this chance to remind them just where their loyalties lie, after all, this is a new devil society under my-our rule. I will not allow the old to do away with my efforts thus far, and while tradition is important, it does not supersede my authority. Something that Zekram will have to learn the hard way." Sirzech intoned sharply.

Nodding in agreement, Grayfia knew where her husband was coming from, for it wouldn't be the first time he and lord Zekram had quarreled in respect for how devil society should be led. While Sirzech was more or less liberal by devil standards, and though he respects the old traditions, he would toss it aside if it meant a greater improvement for the whole, sometimes even doing away with it instead of trying to appease the other party. This of course had the conservatives; mainly composed of the old lords that have been around since the great war, and civil war, to take a stand, with Zekram as their leader. While they weren't as radical like the old Satan faction, their stubbornness to adhere to the old ways was no less troublesome. After all, what need did they have for such misguided and outright barbaric ways that no longer served a purpose in an otherwise new age peace and progress.

No, their time was done. it was time for the newer generation to take the lead.

"On another side note, the Phenex clan has been pushing for the marriage between Rias and Riser to be moved up. While Lord and Lady Gremory have continued to dissuade them. I'm afraid they are getting closer to running out of options as of late. Even now, I have received word that Riser Phenex wishes to meet with Rias in order to engage in talks of their engagement." Grayfia informed Sirzech who's face scrunched into a frown as a pensive look appeared on his face.

"No doubt pressure from the noble's faction. While, Lord Phenex is a good man, he is not without his own flaws. Clearly, Zekram's doing in his efforts to expand his influence, and to also sink his grubby hands into my own family." Sirzech clicked his tongue in annoyance. "If there is one thing he treasures above all else, it would be his own family's power, the power of destruction." A trace of red flashed in his eyes.

"Being one of the oldest devils in existence, he clearly views that any outside blood with his trademark ability to be his by default. After all, he has tried time and time again to recruit me when I had yet been crowned. Even now that old bat still desires what he has no claim to. With Rias being as outstanding as she is in her usage of the power of destruction. Clearly, the notion of bringing her in to his side was irresistible." Shaking his head, Sirzechs could only watch as this happened. While being a Satan granted him great power. There was only so much he could do in terms of direct interference. For if he did, the nobles would label him as "bias" towards a singular family, and therefore unfit to be their ruler.

And he refused to be a tyrant like the ones of old.

"See to it that the Phenex boy doesn't overstep himself." In other words, stop any and all altercations between him and Rias. No need to complicate the matter.

"I'll do what I can, but, what of your plans?" she asked.

At that, Sirzechs grinned maniacally.

"BAAKAAAA!"

Being abruptly awoken from his sleep by the sudden shout. Ichigo eyes flew open in surprise as the first and the last thing he saw before his world was engulfed in darkness was a pair of tits slamming face first into him.

Boing*

"Urk-" his muffled yelp was cut off as he felt his assailant slam into him.

For a brief moment, the two just laid there, one on top of the other. Though a pair of arms reached for his assailants' shoulders and pushed them off. saving himself from being smothered to death.

Gulping some air, Ichigo looked to see just who had assaulted him while he was sleeping.

Familiar crimson hair-check

Aquamarine eyes-check

…Boobs-check

"Rias, what the hell are you doing!?" Ichigo questioned in annoyance as he released her to rub the last vestiges of sleep from his eyes.

"That's what I should be asking you!? Just what were you thinking?" She exclaimed as she looked at him angrily, much to his surprise.

"W-what are you talking about?" Ichigo questioned, as he never expected her to be so mad at him all of a sudden.

"Hah? Don't tell me you've forgotten about your meeting with Grayfia last night, you know, my sister-in-law, who you had a brief altercation with." Rias cast him an unimpressed look as she said that.

"…Oh." Scratching his head in slight embarrassment, Ichigo realized that he had almost gotten into a fight with someone who he at first thought was a simple maid who had impressive power. Though it turns out she was the not only the sister-in-law to Rias, but, Lucifers' wife.

If he could go back to smack himself over the head he would.

Cough*

"What did she say?" recomposing himself, Ichigo stared at Rias as she saw the tension in her body leave and the anger recede somewhat.

Sigh*

A look of slight exasperation overcame her as she held a hand to her forehead. "Aside from the brief altercation you guys head, which might I add doesn't help that it was Grayfia of all people. She mentioned briefly the conversation you guys had, though she didn't go into much detail on it, well, aside from…" She trailed off as she started fiddling with her fingers, her eyes slightly averting him as a light blush dusted her cheeks.

"Oh~ what did she say, I wonder~" Ichigo smirked as he placed his hands around Rias hips, startling her as her blush intensified.

Still not one to fall for his games. Rias quickly recomposed herself as her gaze softened. "Ichigo, you know you don't have to go that far for me, I…I don't want you to get hurt." Rias said, slight guilt entering her voice at what she had inadvertently caused.

Flick*

"OW!" startled, Rias placed a palm to her forehead where Ichigo had flicked her. "What was that for!?" Rias exclaimed in slight anger much to his amusement.

"Well, for one, you woke me up by body slamming into me, and two…" he didn't finish what he was going to say as he suddenly placed a kiss onto Rias soft lips, surprising her in the process as her eyes widened at the unexpected action.

"…You're more than worth it, Rias." Pulling back from the kiss, Ichigo cast Rias a gentle smile as he held her in his arms. Her blushing face intensifying as she stared at that charming smile of his. Averting her eyes, Rias could not meet his passionate gaze any longer, still the small smile that threatened to tug at her face could not hide the emotions she felt within.

Rias knew she should be mad at him, for spouting such nonsense like taking on the entire underworld for her sake. For threating the strongest queen in the underworld and daring anyone to take her from him. She knew he was being foolish, for if nothing else, devils had their pride.

And Ichigo had just hit them right where it hurts by openly challenging them like that.

All for her sake.

"…You're such an idiot." She said as she buried her face into his chest. His arms wrapping around her, comforting her with his presence.

"But you're my idiot." Mumbling that part to herself. Rias enjoyed the warmth of his body as the two stayed like that till the sun rose.

Despite the events of last night, the day had gone on surprisingly uneventful. Now if there was one thing Ichigo had learned from his memories was to never let devils have time to conspire and always hit them with overwhelming might.

Shock and awe had always done wonders for him on the battlefield.

Still, those were different times, and he was figuratively speaking; in the open now, vulnerable to the whims of others. While his strength nowhere near the peak, was satisfying enough that he could handle most threats.

Nothing short of a God, Satan, Archangel, or Dragon King would make him even think of retreat.

Well a sufficiently strong enough opponent would still be a cause for concern, and armies were not out of the question. He just hoped he hadn't pissed someone off enough where they would resort to numerical superiority to take him down.

A Monarch he may be, but, as of now, he still didn't have complete access to his abilities, and he had yet to even activate the boosted gears balance break. Well, according to Ddraig, that would be the easy part. As he had the power to do so, and the strength/stamina to hold it together without his body crumbling to pieces.

He only lacked practice as well as sufficient experience to use it to its full potential. Well, nothing he couldn't fix in his own time. He was sure Ddraig would look forward to the experience.

Still…

Looking to his side, he could see Rias seemed to be…pensive, her eyes were looking straight ahead, yet, were unfocused. Probably deep in thought as she had seemed distracted after they had settled their little quarrel earlier that morning.

"Just what could you be thinking about?" while he was a bit concerned, he had done what he could to ease her worries. Perhaps news of his shocking statement had yet to fully sink in with her.

Well, it wouldn't be the first time he'd done something reckless that would later bite him in the ass.

Shaking his head in mild amusement. Ichigo focused ahead, he figured he'd give Rias time to settle her own thoughts and work from there. After all, he doubted anything of note would happen today. Perhaps, seeing as it was Friday, he could go about inviting her out on a date, just the two of them. A pleasant distraction to take her mind off of the daily troubles of the world.

He should have known that was asking for too much when it came to him.

"Nothing would happen, I said. Everything would be alright, I said. Let's have fun the rest of the day, I said." that's what he gets for putting his foot where his mouth is. Now as he sat with his arms crossed in front of him, his scowl slightly more pronounced as he stared at the douche in front of him.

Bursting from a pillar of fire from a teleportation circle, a young man who appeared to be in his early 20s with short blond hair and blue eyes was now standing within the room. Wearing a burgundy blazer with gold embroidery on the right with matching pants and black dress shoes. Underneath his open blazer was a white dress shirt that is not fully buttoned, giving a slight view of his chest. The man carried himself with an air of arrogance, his confident smile and condescending gaze looking over the room as he took in the occupants. Clearly this guy believed himself above everyone here and the center of attention, deserving to be worshipped on the spot and the ground he treads.

"How terribly familiar." Years of experience screamed at him to punch the young devils face. With the only reason he hadn't being his self-control and not wanting to escalate the already tense situation.

Well, tense in that Rias looked pissed, and her peerage cast wary gazes upon Riser and concerned looks upon Rias.

All the while the maid, Grayfia looked indifferent to the situation, clearly used to this situation and deciding to mind her business till the situation called for it. Though, he had noticed her casting wary glances at him, perhaps worried he'd try something. That or their conversation the night before had yet to fully sink in her mind.

Well, she needn't worry, he wouldn't try anything.

"I've come to see you, my beloved Rias." The man declared offhandedly, like speaking about the weather.

Scratch that. He was having grilled chicken tonight.

"Lord Riser Phenex, we've been expecting you." Grayfia announced his arrival for all to hear.

"Hoh~ if it isn't lady Gryfia, hailed as the strongest queen, to what do I owe the honor." He complimented as he turned to Grayfia.

"I'm merely here on Sirzechs orders to make sure nothing outwardly happens." At this she cast her gaze back towards Ichigo, who simply looked back indifferently.

"Is that so? Hmph, so be it." He shrugged and switched his focus back to Rias.

"So, my dearest, why haven't you yet to greet this Riser. After all, I've come to see you in this…shabby place after so long apart." He said as he cast his surroundings a disdainful look, clearly being in the human world wasn't his idea of a good time.

"Riser, to what do I owe the pleasure of your visit to my humble abode. Clearly, I would imagine someone as…busy as you to have more important matters to deal with." Let it not be said she couldn't be cordial but damn was her disdain slipping through her words.

"Ah! Yes, how could I dare to say that I am too busy for my future wife, if anything I have been anticipating this day more than any." Whether he was purposefully ignoring her attitude or not, the fact that he dared mention the word wife when speaking to Rias was more than enough to let her mask of civility crack as her brows furrowed in disgust.

"Riser, didn't we have this conversation previously, just what exactly did I request you not do ever again." Rias voice had taken an edge that caught Ichigo off guard, clearly unused to seeing Rias so livid.

"Oh, what might that be, my darling, please, illuminate me. For it appears I have forgotten." Clearly enjoying this verbal sparring, Riser seemed to want to get a reaction out of Rias, and thus far, he was succeeding.

"There, what you just said, I specifically told you to never address me as darling, beloved, dearest, and especially not WIFE!" clearly unable to control herself anymore, Rias power of destruction briefly flared, much to Risers amusement as he flared his own power over the immortal flames of Phenex.

"Enough." Came the word as Grayfia stepped in between the two, her eyes piercing into them, pressuring them into seizing whatever actions they were about take.

Huff*

Being the first, Rias conceded as she held her power in check, clearly annoyed beyond belief, but, knowing that she was at fault for reacting like that. Still, the fact that the bastard had dared utter such drivel made her want to blast his face apart with a shot from her power of destruction.

Just one punch. It's not like he'd die anyways.

"Oho~ terrifying as ever, even this Riser would not dare trifle with the strongest queen, still, you needn't worry, lady Grayfia, this was but a mere lover's quarrel nothing more." Riser smirked.

"Riser you-" shooting Rias a sharp look, Grayfia shut Rias up as she clenched her teeth in silence.

"I will let this one-time slide, refrain from provoking one another again, or I will have to send you back to the underworld, Lord Riser." Grayfia warned much to his amusement.

"But of course, I never meant to rile up my betrothed. I simply wish that she would start to accept that she is going become my wife. It is what our two clans want after all, to see the future of devilkind safe and in secure hands." He said while shooting Rias a mocking look. Much to her chagrin but otherwise remained from causing another outburst.

"Ah, but alas, all this fun has left me quite parched, wouldn't you say Rias, why don't you take a seat here at my side, while that queen of yours fetch us some drinks." Riser said as he took his seat on the opposite couch.

Looking at Akeno, Rias nodded her head as she sent her away to get the tea she prepared.

Coming back with a tray, Akeno poured drinks for the two involved.

"Ah, the tea prepared by my Rias' queen is most delicious." Riser said as he took a sip from the warm liquid.

"Thank you for your kind words, sir." Akeno bowed.

Ichigo who had thus far remained silent, had curiously watched this drama from start to end, and well, Rias had been right. This guy was a total ass. No wonder she despised him so much, just being around the guy for more than a minute and already he wanted to run Tensa Zangetsu through the him.

Perhaps his disdain shown on his face because Riser turned to face him as he had felt a sharp gaze on him.

"Oh, and who might you be? Are you perhaps Rias newest addition. Strange, how come I don't feel any demonic energy from you." He questioned as he looked at Ichigo with curiosity.

Before Ichigo could answer, Rias stood from her seat, unable to stand this farce any longer. "Alright, I believe this is enough, you've had your fun Riser, but I believe that you have overstayed your welcome. Return home and tell them my answer has not changed, I will NEVER marry you." Rias suddenly declared, much to Risers annoyance, though he was quick to hide it as he also stood from his seat to confront Rias.

"Ah, but Rias, I think that your family's circumstances are desperate enough not to allow you to be so inconsiderate." Riser surmised much to Rias annoyance.

"I will not lead my house into ruin." Rias declared, her serious gaze bearing down on Riser.

"But can you afford it, the clans have been eyeing house Gremory for a while now, at the rate it has gone, you might not even have the chance to become the next head of your house." Riser revealed much to her peerages surprise as well as Ichigo's.

"Riser." Rias cast him a hateful look, his name dripping like poison from her mouth, still she would not let him have his way.

"Be that as it may, House Gremory has stood proud thus far, it will survive this ordeal and come out stronger for it. Bear that in mind, do not underestimate us." She declared.

"Is that what you believe?" Riser questioned.

"Yes. So, leave me be, go back and tell them as I have said many times before. I. WILL. NOT. MARRY. YOU!" each word carried her utter disdain for Riser Phenex that it left him momentarily speechless.

"…"

Until a wicked grin split his face as he started to laugh hysterically. "AHAHAHAhahaHAha…" his laughter filled the room in a sickening song of madness and rage.

"Oh Rias, foolish Rias, tell me, did you ever stop to think and wonder why I'm here, why out of all the days we could have met, it had to be today. Well?" Riser asked as his laughter ceased and a malicious grin spread on his face.

"What do you mean?" Rias cast him a confused if somewhat wary gaze as she heard his words.

"Oh, well, if you must know, it's simple really." Thrusting his arms to the side, Riser continued. "The great lord and lady Gremory have finally given us their blessing for this most perfect union, and I as your husband to be have come forth to bring back my wife for our engagement ceremony." His wicked grin threatened to split his face as his eyes shown with manic delight.

"You…What!? No, this-this can't be right, father and mother promised that the engagement ceremony wouldn't be until after I graduated from my studies in the human world." Rias declared, but she no longer sounded as sure of herself as she heard Risers words.

"Perhaps, but, plans have changed. For you see, your parents in their great wisdom have finally seen the true problem at heart. Don't you understand Rias, our species, our way of life is dying out. Tell me, how many clans remain from the original 72? How many lives have been lost during the great war? the civil war? How many have defected to the radical lunatics that make up the old Satan faction? How many purebloods truly remain in our society?" his words were like daggers in Rias heart as she could not muster her voice.

"Do you understand now, the true need for us younger generations, to uphold the mantle that has been passed down to us and do our best so that our great species doesn't die out, so that our noble bloodlines may continue on. Rias we are on the verge of extinction, angels on one side, fallen on the other, and all the other factions that eye us. We are surrounded by enemies. Which is why this responsibility falls down to us. To carry on the great restoration of our people." With that passionate speech, Riser hoped that Rias would stop with her senseless drivel of love and refusal to marry him. Did she not see that this was bigger than them, that the future depended on them.

"So, stop being so obstinate and simply come with me. This is all, after all, for the greater good." His hand extended towards Rias, clearly anticipating for her to take it.

"…"

There was silence in the room as Rias and Riser stared at one another, the tension in the room at its highest, even Grayfia who had remained indifferent thus far, seemed ready to make a move ever so slightly if Rias were to react negatively. Which appeared to be the case with every passing second.

Even Ichigo wanted to see what Rias would do in the end.

Still, after a moment, Rias raised her dainty hand towards Riser, her hair shadowing her face as she did.

"Good, so you see reason after all. Hahaha, worry not my dearest, this Riser will make sure to treat you well from this point onwards, with us together, think of the power and heights we can reach. Who would then dare to take the name of Phenex and Gremory lightly." Even as he spoke and Rias who was about to place her hand on his, suddenly moved and slapped his hand away, much to Riser's shock and everyone's surprise at her action.

"…"

Flabbergasted at having his hand slapped away, Riser stared incredulously at his hand before shifting his gaze towards Rias who stared at him with a look he could only describe as disgust.

"Riser, to whom do you think you are lecturing about the future of the Devils, as Heiress of the great clan, Gremory, I more than any understand this problem. But, never in all my years have I heard such bullshit being spouted at me. "For the greater good?" what the hell would you know about that. Where did the pompous bastard I know that wouldn't even blink when it comes to sacrificing his own pieces to win go, the womanizer who treats his own peerage as his own harem. Since when did a selfish and self-absorbed man like you ever cared about the problems that plague our society? Where did this newfound altruism come from? Honestly, I felt like I was about to barf hearing you talk all that nonsense. Blechh*" Making a disgusted sound, Rias mocked Riser as she looked at him with contempt.

"Rias, you-" though before he could begin, Rias cut him off and continued.

"Silence. I have heard enough. It appears to me that what you truly care about is not the future of devilkind, but the future of Phenex, or should I say, the future of Riser. After all, you are but the mere 3rd son of the lord of Phenex. Ruval who has already gained fame through the rating games and on his way to ultimate class. Royce who has found great discoveries and brought back ancient technologies and magics from the great war era. Compared to your two splendid older brothers, what have you accomplished to be so proud? Still I guess it is no fault of your own. After all, you were simply born too late to compete for your place in the family, and too late to be considered the second-best choice. A shame really." Rias mocked. A contemptuous gaze as she stared down Riser who could only take the jabs thrown at him. The insecurities that had plagued him all his life laid bare for the woman to pick at and throw them into his face.

Stepping closer to him, Rias in a bold move, grasped his face in her hand as she looked him in the eye.

"Tell me, what makes you think you have what it takes to be my husband, surely the great clans aren't so bereft of new blood that you alone are all I have to look forward too?" releasing him, Rias could see her words were having the desired effect, his eyes had a dark look in them, his fists clenched and if she strained her hearing she might just pick up in him grinding his teeth together in silent fury as she continued to ridicule him.

"Besides, though I admit that you are stronger than me at the moment, there's no denying that. But, what of the future? Do you think you could make me submit? Even amongst the new generation, I have proven to excel with only half the effort, if I truly were to take my duty seriously, well…I'm afraid it would be you who would be found wanting. I refuse to bear the children of someone weaker than me." Perhaps that was the final straw that broke the camel's back, for Riser could no longer hold back his rage.

The buildup of heat in the area could be felt as Riser aura kept growing, bathing the area in fire as his rage could no longer be bottled at Rias persistent insults towards his honor. "Rias, I have been more than patient with you, though I have tolerated your defiance thus far, I will no longer put up with your insults towards my person." Riser coldly stated, his words promising violence should she continue.

"Hoh~ showing your true colors now are we, tell me did my words hurt that fragile ego of yours~" she scoffed. "Honestly, if this is what I have to look forward to for the rest of my life I'd rather just take my chances with my own brother." At that admittance, Grayfia cast an incredulous gaze at Rias who refused to even acknowledge it.

All the while the rest of her peerage and Ichigo stared in shock, though, more than any other it was Riser who froze at her words, like he had just been slapped in the face.

"You! How many times will you continue to insult me woman!" stepping up to Rias who flared her own demonic power to combat his, a power struggle ensued as they once more glared at one another, clear disdain for each other as they looked ready to throw down at a moment notice.

Though this time, with an even greater pressure that caused a chill to engulf the room, snuffing out Risers flame, and causing the occupants to start shivering from the intensity of the cold and power being pushed out to them. All but Ichigo who remained calm under Grayfia's power as he simply rose his to combat the hostile pressure, relieving Akeno, Koneko and Yuuto from the chilling demonic power that assailed them. No longer feeling like they were about to freeze to death, the three cast Ichigo appreciative gazes, not questioning why he of everyone else appeared fine under the power of the hailed strongest queen that was Grayfia Lucifuge.

"I do believe I had warned you two to remain civil did I not." Talking down to the two troublemakers, Grayfia has had enough of their squabbling. "Rias, I'm disappointed in you. Your brother will hear of this…actually never mind." Clearly that siscon would be ecstatic. "Riser, I expected more from you, as the future husband to Rias you should learn to contain yourself in her presence." Grayfia admonished them with that glare she used to put people in place.

"I-of course, F-forgive me, lady Grayfia." Riser conceded. Though only under the overwhelming pressure that extinguished whatever rage he had built up throughout the whole ordeal. Leaving only the cold ashes of resentment he had. Rias was no different as she withered under Grayfia fierce gaze. Looking every bit the child she was under her eyes.

"Good, now, seeing as this meeting is all but ruined with neither party satisfied with the result, leaves me with only one choice." Grayfia continued as she pulled back her power, the chill in the air receding and the temperature returning to normal.

"W-what do you mean?" Clearly still rattled by the ordeal, Rias shakily asked Grayfia what she meant by those words.

"My husband, Sirzechs, had expected this outcome, and after much deliberation between him and lord and lady Gremory, it was concluded that the only way to satisfy both parties. Be it the Gremory and Phenex clan, was through…a rating game." As soon as those words left her mouth, Rias could feel her soul leaving her body and her knees growing weak at what she just heard.

"A rating game!" Akeno exclaimed in surprise. Clearly not expecting such an outcome as she cast a worried look towards Rias.

A troubled look crossed Yuuto as he looked towards Rias in concern.

"…" Koneko despite her indifferent expression, felt her forehead start to sweat, and her hands tremble.

Ichigo looked on confused. "What was a rating game? I feel like I've heard about that before…" trying to recall where he heard that, Ichigo focused his attention back to Rias who seemed ready to cry out in a panic.

"Y-You can't be serious!" Rias all but shouted at Grayfia in incredulity.

"Forgive me, Rias, but this decision has been agreed on to settle any and all resentment between the two of you, of course you are welcomed to refuse, but in that case, you will be forced to marry Riser regardless of your opinion." Grayfia informed Rias who looked like she was having her world crumble in front of her, despair clear in her eyes. Ichigo while he didn't fully understand the significance, could understand that this was the worst-case scenario.

And it just ate at him to see her so distressed.

"Hahaha HAAAHAAHAH! It appears that good fortune favors this Riser." Riser grinned, any and all resentment extinguished at this bit of good news.

"But, this is ridiculous! we aren't even allowed to participate in one, I don't even have a full set yet to even think about such things!" Rias cried out in denial.

"Exceptions can be made, this is one of those." Grayfia shook her head. Clearly feeling the same way as Rias towards this whole ordeal.

"But I-I…" seemingly looking for anything to grasp onto to avoid having to participate in the rating game and give Riser and everyone in her family what they wanted. Rias looked to be in the verge of a mental breakdown.

"Come now Rias, surely you realize that you only have one option here, give up already and accept your fate. Of course, you are welcomed to struggle, but, not that I'm ridiculing you or anything, you simply lack the necessary pieces to fully stand against me and my full set." With a snap of his fingers another teleportation portal appeared, casting the room in light as 15 girls appeared at his back.

"If you truly wish to challenge me, I'm more than ready to oblige, I'll even allow you 10 days to get your peerage into shape should you desire. I'm generous if nothing else." Riser offhandedly said, clearly enjoying this turn of events.

Rias for her part, could hear nothing as she was lost in her thoughts. Her eyes seemingly losing whatever hope she had up until now. After all, should she fight against Riser's peerage, she would inevitably lose within first 10 minutes if even that. No way would she be able to mount an attack on them. they would be forced to play on the defensive, otherwise risk allowing Riser's pawns to promote to queens, tipping the scale evermore in his favor. Just 4 against 15 was a disadvantage, but with Riser who was the most experienced of the two when it came to participating in rating games, that and being the superior fighter of the two. She had no plans, no clue of how she could reverse this situation around.

"It's over." That single conclusion kept repeating itself in her mind over and over again. No way could she accept the first option, she refused to marry him. With the second option a mere formality so her family could crush whatever defiance she had left, she wasn't crazy enough to put her peerage in harm's way just because of her own situation. As bad as it looked, it was a losing battle from the beginning and she knew it, yet, within the confines of her heart she had hoped beyond hope that this day would never arrive. Now faced with only one choice, how could she bare to lose her longtime friends in a battle not worth fighting for.

Did she really have to swallow her pride and do as her family ordered.

"Someone…anyone, please…" She could feel hot tears building up at the corners of her eyes.

"…Please…help…me." A singular tear fell from her eye, reflecting all the emotion she had built up in the last few minutes as she had been hit with a roller-coaster of emotions. Unable to even be given a choice in the matter, and sentenced to a fate worse than death.

In all her life, for the first time in her life, Rias had felt utterly defeated. With no way to fight back.

Hopeless.

Alone.

"…"

Strong arms wrapped themselves around her, enveloping her in a hug as they shielded her away from the ridiculing eyes of her tormentor. A familiar warmth enveloped her, the sound of a heartbeat that beat gently against her as she had her face pressed to his chest, her tears stopping as she looked up in surprise to see Ichigo glaring ahead, his expression marred in a scowl. Still, she could not help but be surprised at the unexpected action.

"Ichigo…" she called out his name in a whisper, surprised at his action.

"Oh~ what's this? Who might you be." Riser asked. Having not sensed this man move before he appeared in his vision and proceeded to hug Rias at that too.

Shooting him a quick glare, the orange haired man turned to face Rias who looked up at him, remnant tears marring her face from her pent-up emotions. With a gentle touch of his thumb, Ichigo wiped them away.

"It's fine now, let me take it from here." Casting her a quick smile before she could speak. Ichigo turned to face not Riser, but Grayfia. His scowl bearing on her and his eyes narrowed in a steely eyed gaze.

"Do you remember what I said." he asked calmly yet demanding.

"Yes." She responded, her gaze serious yet curious as to what he wanted to say.

"Then you understand I can't allow this farce to continue any longer." Ichigo continued.

"I would suggest against doing anything that would otherwise be interpreted as a hostile action, I will not allow you to act out as you wish." Grayfia warned.

"Hmph, and I will not allow my claim to go unheard." Ichigo shot back.

Turning away from Grayfia, Ichigo looked back at Rias who had her eyes on him, regrets and fear in those beautiful aquamarine eyes of hers. "Well, Rias, don't you think this situation is a little unfair." He asked suddenly.

"…yes." Not understanding where he was going with this but playing along nonetheless, Rias began to suspect that something was up.

"Exactly. But, you know what's even more damning, that despite my warning, I went completely ignored. I can't help but feel a little insulted." It was that point that everyone in the room suddenly began to detect a sudden pressure over the area.

"Huh?" Riser and everyone else could not help but wonder what this strange feeling was.

"That despite my feelings on the matter, they would dare risk my ire." Ichigo unbothered with his surroundings continued to talk with Rias.

"I have already expressed my desires, did I not? That I have laid claim to Rias' heart. That she is mine and mine alone. That I would not allow any man to lay a hand on her." the pressure in the area seemed to grow, and some could even feel the hairs on the back of their neck stand on end as they sensed danger.

"Tell me Rias, do you trust me? do you believe in me?" Ichigo who continued talking suddenly said something that caught everyones attention. As both Grayfia and Riser widened their eyes in surprise.

"Do you love me?" Ichigo asked, his voice giving nothing away as he awaited Rias response.

Having been through so much in the span of a few minutes. Rias could say that she honestly felt like a mess, simply wanting everything to be over so that she could wake up and hope that it was all a horrible nightmare. For what could this be if not a nightmare. Yet like the silver lining that waved in front of her, Rias who had sunk to depths of despair grasped at that speckle of light.

If it was Ichigo asking her to have faith in him, then so be it. She had nothing left to gamble on. She would believe in him to keep his word.

"…I love you. You and you alone." Hot tears once more formed on Rias eyes, yet this time, unlike the tears of despair she had shed, these were of happiness, as she would let everyone know how she felt.

A radiant smile overcame her features that left the onlookers in shock, yet Ichigo simple closed his eyes as he took in her words like they were the one final thing he needed to reaffirm his resolve.

What came next was a surprising sight as Ichigo opened his eyes, revealing golden orbs, radiant and holy, yet beautiful to behold. The sight shocked Rias as she had never seen him do such a thing, yet, as he cast a confident smile towards Rias, he shifted his gaze back to the wary Grayfia who could feel the pressure within that gaze, as well as the surroundings that continued to flare.

"Did you hear, she has made her choice. I believe my claim holds weight, don't you agree." As he said this, a crushing force suddenly flattened Risers peerage and forced Grayfia to release her own power to stand up against the ensuing storm. Akeno, Yuuto, and Koneko were flabbergasted as they couldn't believe what they were seeing, while they knew Ichigo was the red dragon emperor, they had never imagined that he was this strong, just how? Hadn't he been a normal human a month ago? When could he have grown this powerful in such little time.

"Fear not, unworthy ones. I will not kill you, but I will warn you." Turning to Riser who was kneeling on the ground Ichigo approached him and lifted his chin to face him. His expression one of shock and anger. Yet strained from the force bearing on him.

"Riser Phenex, while I find your actions and words to MY Rias to be utterly deplorable, I hold nothing against you. It's simply your bad luck that I have become invested in something you desired." Letting his chin go, Ichigo watched as he further sank to his knees. His head down from being unable to lift it. Satisfied, Ichigo proceeded towards Grayfia who glared at him.

"Don't look so angered, for I have brought no harm to them, but, allow me to give you my own proposal." Ichigo declared.

"And what might that be, just to let you know, I will be letting the respective families know of today's events, I suggest you choose your words wisely this time." Grayfia warned, her own glare boring into those golden irises.

"A duel." Ichigo simply declared catching everyone's gaze at his words, even the ones who were pinned to the ground as they could still hear the conversation.

"A duel?" she questioned.

"One on one, me against a chosen representative of the underworld. A duel till one cannot carry on." Ichigo clarified to the surprised Grayfia. "You hear that, Phenex. I will allow you to choose anyone you desire to fight me in your stead, seeing that you clearly stand no chance against me otherwise." Letting the pressure off as he had gotten his point across, the feeling of impending doom had disappeared as they were allowed to breathe again.

Standing on shaky legs, Riser turned to face the orange haired man once more, this time with not a single iota of arrogance and disdain as before. But, Riser being the pure-blooded devil that he is, could not help voice his discontent.

"W-Who do you think you are!? To so brazenly interfere in matters that don't concern you at all! Do you have any idea of what you've just done!? your words could be interpreted as a declaration of war against the entire underworld! Are you fearless, or just suicidal!?" Riser exclaimed in both anger and shock at such recklessness.

"And you Rias, are you not ashamed to ask this nameless stranger to interfere in your behalf. To so suddenly declare your love for him! What ridiculousness! What would your parents think, no, what would the nobility of the underworld think at such a breach in protocol. This goes against our laws, our traditions! You would disregard your own pure blood and elope with this man!?" Riser continued till he suddenly felt a shiver go down his spine as he looked up to see a pair of dispassionate golden orbs stare down at him like an insignificant speck of dust.

"Silence." That one word was all that was needed to be said for Riser to grow quiet, his hands trembling, and eyes dilating in fear as he took a step back.

"You devil's and your theatrics." Shaking his head, Ichigo faced Grayfia once more. "Well, will you accept or not, depending on your answer today, my actions will depend on the choice made here." Ichigo stated with his arms crossed.

"I'm afraid I don't have the authority to choose on his behalf." Grayfia explained as she looked towards Riser who was currently gritting his teeth in frustration.

"NO! If this is what he wants then so be it! I agree on my family's behalf, I accept your challenge, let us see if you truly have what it takes to spout such words once you see who you will be facing." Riser threatened as he pointed his finger at Ichigo.

"Most excellent, I hope that whomever you choose, may they not be found wanting. For your sake at least." Ichigo smirked as the Phenex agreed. "Well you heard the man, he is on board, now all that's left is for you to carry my message. Let everyone in the underworld know that I, Ichigo Kurosaki, the current Red Dragon Emperor, have laid claim to Rias Gremory, and wish to duel a representative of the underworld for her hand. Should I win, Rias would be betrothed to me. Should I lose…well, you get the picture." Ichigo smirked as he saw Grayfia contemplate his words.

"I…will let them know of your challenge, but, are you sure? Once I relay your words, there is no going back, many will not take kindly to what you have said. For you would have made an enemy of the nobility of the underworld. So, once more, I ask, do you wish to proceed?" she questioned him, though concern could be heard in her words.

Slowly turning to face Rias, Ichigo could see her eyes widened in disbelief, that anyone would go so far for her. Perhaps reminded of the earlier conversation they had, Ichigo could not help but smile back at her. This time, he would prove to her that his words were more than just words. For once he made a promise, he intended to keep it.

He was a man of his word after all.

"Of course, she's more than worth it."

Rias could feel her face heat up at his words, a blush that matched her crimson hair in intensity. Her heart beating so fast she felt it was going to leap out of her chest. Just what could have compelled Ichigo to go this far for her, what did he see in her that was worth making the entirety of the noble families his enemy. Surely anyone would have cut their losses with her at this point, seeing that the situation was beyond redeemable, and yet he…stayed with her, protected her, and would fight for her.

Never in her life had she had anyone do such a thing for her, but then again, she's never been pushed this far before in her life. Now as she gazed upon that back of his, she could only feel the determination, the strength, and confidence he held, like opening her eyes for the first time, Rias could not express in words the enigma that was Ichigo.

But, if she was certain of one thing it was thus…

"Oh~ Ichigo, how I love you." The smile that tugged at her lips could not be hidden anymore, not when Ichigo had gone as far as he had. Though a part of her felt ashamed and guilty that she couldn't even do anything about her situation and had to resort to Ichigo to save her. She would not deny that it was a great feeling to have such a dependable boyfriend.

"Wait? if he wins, then that means…he wishes to marry me!" bringing a hand to her mouth to stop herself from squealing like a school girl in front of her guests. Rias contained herself as she lost herself in thoughts of what that could mean for the coming future.

"Very well, since all parties have agreed, I will relay your request to the ones involved, is there anything else you would like to add?" Grayfia asked.

"Hmm, oh, since Riser here was so generous to give Rias 10 days to prepare, I'll take that and prepare myself in that time, once 10 days have passed, than we can have our duel, wherever you devils desire to that is." Ichigo said as he flashed Riser a confident smirk much to his annoyance.

"It matters not, 10 days will not be enough to change the outcome. So, prepare well, Red Dragon Emperor, for the underworld will enjoy as you sink into despair." With that, Riser and his peerage left the ORC room in a teleportation circle. Riser glaring at him all the way until he was gone.

"Then I best be off too, much to prepare and clan heads from doing anything stupid, for once they hear your words, many will come to us demanding for your head." As a white teleportation circle appeared beneath her, Ichigo gave his last piece before she vanished.

"Tell your lord that I'm thankful for the opportunity that he has given me. Perhaps upon my victory, we will have words." Ichigo proposed to Grayfia who appeared surprised for a moment. Though that soon shifted to a knowing look as she pulled a small smile towards him.

"Did you notice his intentions?" she asked.

"Of course. I'm an older brother too after all." With that last conversation between the two, Grayfia teleported away, leaving only him and Rias along with her peerage in the room.

Turning around to face the crowd, Ichigo smiled at them as his eyes reverted back to their normal brown eyes. "If you have any questions ask away, I got some training to pick up on." With that all hell broke loose as he was assailed by one question after another.

To say that Ichigo's challenge was not received well would be understatement. Upon returning Grayfia quickly made her way to Sirzech's office. Where she then proceeded to give a detail account of what had transpired, minus Rias ridiculous proclamation of preferring her older brother over Riser. Still, as expected, all things were moving as he had planned, well more than planned, they were going swimmingly, and if her husband's face was anything to go by, she could tell he was eager to drop this bomb on the pillar families.

Within the following hours, Sirzech and Grayfia made their way into the Gremory main household, where lord Phenex was promptly informed to attend. Upon his arrival, Grayfia relayed the same words she had to Sirzech. To say the reaction was terrible was an understatement.

Lord Phenex was furious. Not only had Riser failed to convince Rias to agree to the marriage, but, an interloper dared to declare that Rias was his, and that he would challenge anyone for her hand in marriage. Now devils had nothing if not pride, to be so openly challenged was an insult to that pride.

Still, the fact that this was the Red Dragon Emperor himself who made that declaration was concerning, as according to Grayfia's account he was someone only an ultimate-class devil could hope to defeat. That meant that they couldn't really ignore his challenge, that and his idiot son had actually agreed without his or anyone's council. What a clusterfuck this whole affair has turned out to be.

Zeoticus for his part remained calm, yet the heavy frown on his face upon learning of Rias actions could not hide his disappointment, after all, this went against proper protocol, that and bringing in an outsider to solve such a sensitive affair was heavily frowned upon. But, despite that, he could not help but be impressed by this Red Dragon Emperor, though Grayfia refused to give his name till the agreed date in 10 days, he truly desired to meet the man that had become smitten with his daughter of all people, that he would not only openly challenge anyone for her hand, but go this far for her.

He couldn't help but feel respect for the man.

Still, Venelana would certainly have a heart attack upon finding out.

From then on, it didn't take long for the news to spread like wildfire throughout the underworld. All in no small part due to Riser who openly declared in a public statement that he would "watch as the smug bastard kneeled before him in defeat." From there, the Phenex family had become the center of attention, all eyes on them as they reeled from the unexpected news. All wanting to see how the great Phenex clan, reputed for their fire and immortality, to react to such a blatant challenge on not only them but the entire underworld.

Of course, many other clan heads who heard the news could not help but share in on the outrage they felt, while some reacted more extreme than others, with some openly declaring to do away with the challenge and go after the arrogant bastard's head. Some decided to take a wait and see approach. In an era of more or less stability and peace, such unexpected and otherwise exciting events were hard to come by. Clearly the heavenly pair, reputed for their infamy and power, lived up to that legend as those crazy bastards did not disappoint much to their amusement.

But otherwise, the biggest shock to many was when lord Zekram bael himself openly appeared and made a public statement. Where Zekram proclaimed that this was an attack on devil society as a whole, to be so openly challenged by old enemies of the past, that Rias actions went against many of their laws and traditions, bordering on treason. But, what was most damning of all, was that he did a complete 180 and proceeded to praise the Red dragon emperor, and calling him bold but otherwise within his right. After all, being one of the oldest living devils around, Zekram had been around for the most barbaric times, when money, influence, and birth were not what dictated power, but strength. If you have strength anything could be yours, for if devils were known for cherishing their bloodlines and purity, then it was power and strength which they respected above all else. Clearly, the Red Dragon Emperor had to have known this to challenge them like so.

Another thing was his support for the Phenex clan and that he had been in talks with Lord Phenex himself discussing how they should proceed. Naturally, Lord Zekram had responded with a simple answer.

"Naturally, this is our pride at stake, so as such, we should respond with only the best."

A reporter asked just who he could be referring to.

Lord Zekram smirked.

"If it's a 1v1 duel then naturally, our champion, the number 1 ranker in the rating games, The Emperor."

The crowd stunned into silence, suddenly drowned the venue with cheers as they heard who would take the Red Dragon Emperors challenge.

"Diehauser Belial, may he bring us victory."

Authors Note.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone, it is I, yours truly here to deliver a chapter to accompany you on this auspicious day.

May you all have a splendid feast, and spend a great time with your loved ones. If not, well, you at least have me, lol.

Let's move on with the chapter shall we. Some discussion is in order.

Firstly, the intro scene with Kisuke and Azazel. Seeing as Kisuke wishes to tread upon unknown territory as he knows he can't fully rely upon tools like sacred gears. Kisuke desires to create his own, all for the greater good of humanity as he puts it. His latest creation with the help of Azazel who is acquainted with him due to both having a need for each other has led to the unholy creation of the "Teigu" or imperial arms as they put. Totally not an AGK reference.

The process in this creation is what I would call, barbaric if nothing else. I was inspired by how in the bleach lore, the soul king was stripped of pretty much everything, turning him from an individual-to a thing, an "it" a mere tool and vessel.

That is what is happening here, Kisuke is turning the horrors that have been imprisoned due to being too dangerous to be let free into weapons of destruction. By reducing them from form, individuality, and finally imprisoning them within the cage created of their own body. An empty vessel, a tool to do only as the wielder desires with only the benefits and none of the downsides of lingering egos.

The perfect weapons.

We'll see who will wield such armaments in the future.

Secondly, the moment I've been alluding to has arrived. The moment that will decide Rias and Ichigo's relationship from here on out. With one final trial ahead. Will the lovebirds be destined to break apart by the wheel of fate, or will Ichigo prevail against all odds. An epic clash awaits.

Thirdly, I want to get into the Monarchs viewpoints towards each other, naturally they all wouldn't get along, but they still would be friendly with one another considering they have been with each other through the thick of it during the great war. I will further explore this as you can see with Kisuke who holds a very high opinion of Ichigo, to the point that he sees anyone who isn't less than perfect and even then, they might just not be enough to be deserving to stand at his side and have the honor of being his Brave soul. To free himself of the burden, he has agreed to give Azazel the last piece of transcendence that Ichigo created.

On a side note, a Monarch can't just create an unlimited number of brave souls as there are only a limited slots available, and it's extremely selective.

So, what would this mean for our boy Vali?

You'll have to find out.

Reviews

Exodus12345: Honestly you would think since this is a whole nobility thing there would be a champion thing. Like where Ichigo could fight as Rias's chosen champion against Riser. Kind of like what Issei did at the wedding.

Answer: Way ahead of you. Just not against Riser, dude would get fucked up within the first second and that's no fun.

XDXDD: I mean... Evelyn did summon a memory of Elysia and it only has 10% maximum power and it could cause planetary devastation or something, I humbly believe that Grayfia is under Evelyn in terms of power given that Evelyn could summon the Memory without being at death's door.

Answer: Ok, that's on me. This is where my thoughts and writing ability clash as I fail to properly convey scale and explanations in the inner workings of an ability. I had to go back and see what I wrote. So basically, what I had wanted to convey was that her ability while fueling the fragment/memory, doesn't mean it just uses Evelyn's power to perform attacks. Evelyn merely kickstarts the process, much like a match does to light a fire. In the world of shadows that she created, the fragment was based on how strong Ichigo perceived Elysia at the time, when he had yet to fully regain his memories. While he had a good grasp of her capabilities, it was the far from the whole. So, this memory of Elysia was a shadow of a shadow of a shadow. A very weak version of the original.

Though 10% is still impressive, that 10% is the bare minimum that Evelyn needed to summon the memory of Elysia, and unfortunately for her, she had barely the amount to do so. As the shadow started to not only eat away at her power but her life force as well in order to fully manifest. This ability is an essence a double-edged sword.

As for what I meant by planetary devastation. I didn't necessarily mean she would crack the planet like an egg, sure the real Elysia could do that no problem. But in this instance, I merely referred to her attack as causing great damage to the surface of a planet, in much the same way a meteorite would come hurling to a planet, or the strongest nuke on steroids going off, hell maybe even the eruption of a super volcano. All technically fall under planetary devastation. I know, it's a vague word to describe the scale of damage.

Frau Kojiro: 0/10, you used the inferior Bronya.

Joking aside, I look forward to reading the rest. I had an inkling when Elysia was mentioned, so when Bronya showed up I knew I hit gold.

Answer: Booba Bronya is best Bronya. Also, thanks, I hope you have been enjoying my story thus far.

Alright that's it from me everyone, I hope you all continue to enjoy my work and support me. May you all have an awesome day and an even better thanksgiving.

Peace.
