Chapter 2: Letters Back and Forth

Ginny lay awake, a week had passed since she sent the letter back to Harry. She hasn't got one back; she knew he said he wasn't going to keep in contact, but she'd hoped he would change his mind. She lay slowly dozing off when a tapping came from the window making her look to see the same owl outside. Quickly getting up, she opened the window. The owl dropped the letter then flew off unlike the last time.

Dear Ginny

I hope you are okay; I can't tell you where I am I'm doing alright. I can't come back, I know you are worried about me. I will write to you every week at night; you can tell your family that we are in contact if you want. I know how much your mum will be worrying.

Harry

Ginny read the letter over and over hoping that more words would appear hating that he wasn't giving much away. Also hating that he didn't sign it love Harry. He mustn't want her to reply since the owl flew away. That arse.

Harry knew that if he wrote to Ginny, she would make him want to stay in contact with her. He agreed to put her mind at rest, but he missed her terribly, even though he couldn't go back and see her. He didn't know what else he could do.

Dear Ginny

I hope you and the rest of the Weasleys are doing okay. I'm still doing well though you will be sick of me repeating myself, but I don't know what else I can say.

I miss you Gin.

Harry

Harry sent the letter before sitting back in the chair at the desk he was sat at. You could tell this house hadn't been lived in for quite some time judging by the state it was originally. There were cracks in the walls and cobwebs everywhere even after he had cleaned the place up enough to live in. It was a long way from the warmth of the Burrow or the bittersweet homey feeling he felt whenever I'd been at Grimmauld Place.

It was still better than nothing…

The next morning Harry woke up when his new owl he had named Al turned up dropping the letter on his face and nipping at his arm. Stroking his head, he gave him a treat before opening the letter.

Dear Harry

We are doing the best we can; everyone misses you. You can tell me where you are, you say you miss me, but you say you can't see me. If you missed me then let me come, see you. Your birthday is in a couple of day your girlfriend should be able to see you.

Please Harry

I love and miss you.

Gin.

Dropping the letter back onto his stomach sighing he realised he needed to see her, but it's not like he could just drop by the Burrow. Maybe we can meet somewhere. He got up, going to the desk before grabbing parchment.

Dear Gin

Okay we can meet; I will come to the Burrow on the first of august just before midnight. Meet me behind the broom shed, please come alone and please don't tell your family I will show you where I have been staying.

I miss you.

Harry.

He sent the letter…

He knew it was probably not the right thing to do but he needed to…

It's the first of August the day had felt like it has going by slowly. Ginny was relieved when she heard the last of her brothers go to bed. It's ten to twelve when she sneaks out to the broom shed, she saw no one yet. Hearing a pop, she then saw a shadow. Harry comes into view and without thinking she slapped him across the face then threw herself into his arms. She felt them apparating before landing in a strange looking room.

"You stupid idiot! Where have you been?!" Ginny shot at him as she let go of him. He didn't look much different though he had a moustache and a beard. "Where the Merlin hell are we?"

For the first time in a month Harry looked at her, his face was sad as he rubbed the cheek she had slapped.

"I'm sorry," he said simply taking a seat on a chair leaving another for her. "We are in Godric's Hollow, in the Dumbledore's old house. I have been here since I left."

"Why Harry?" Ginny asked.

"I couldn't deal with it all I need a break," he explained with his head in his hands.

"You could have told me I could helped you," Ginny told him.

"I couldn't deal with seeing everyone in pain especially you," Harry explained.

"But I needed you Harry we could've helped each other, that's what couples do," Ginny said with tears streaming down her face.

"We can't be a couple Gin," Harry told her as Ginny's heart broke staring at him.

"So, you only brought me here to dump me?" Ginny asked the tears falling faster. "I'm not giving up."

"You have to Gin," Harry told Ginny.

"No I will stay here," she said back. "I don't have to do anything."

"You've still got school to finish," he countered. "And you'd be in danger all of the time if you stayed with me."

"It's my choice Harry," Ginny smiled with an annoyed look. "Not yours."

"…I'm sorry Gin," he whispered before he took her hand.

And then suddenly they were back on the outskirts of the Burrow…

"Harry…" Ginny started only for him to let go and disappear with a pop.

That insufferable…man

Dear Ginny

I'm sorry about what happened but we can't be together. I understand if you don't want to write anymore but I'm doing this to protect you. I have to do something I hope you understand why I did it.

I miss you.

Harry

PS Happy seventeenth birthday (I didn't forget)

He wrote a week after they met up leaving Ginny more confused to what was going on, but he was the only person she could talk to. She hated writing to him all she wanted was to see him.

Dear Harry

How can I understand you saying you have to do something, but you won't tell me what. I want to see you again; you say you miss me then let me come see you. We can meet up again.

Please Harry

I love and miss you.

Gin

Ever since she met up with Harry, she tried her best to act normal around her family. They questioned if she had heard from him; she had given them the brief answer of yes and he is doing alright but that's all. Ginny hadn't heard from Harry for two weeks worrying her more and more. There were reports in the Daily Prophet of the findings of the dead Death Eaters, but could Harry be behind this? Ginny was awoken by a tapping noise coming from her bedroom window, bolting up hoping to see the owl but being met by a shadow of someone flying on a broom; she opened the window.

"It's me Gin I need you to come with me I need your help," Harry said quietly. He was in the shade so his face was not visible but by the sound of his voice you could tell he was hurt.

Ginny stomach dropped; grabbing her dressing gown she went back to the window as he helped her onto the broom and flying down. They didn't hit the ground for long before Ginny felt him take her hand with a pop they are gone. They arrived at what Ginny could only assume is Godric Hollow. Harry sat down as soon as they arrived but it was dark so Ginny still couldn't see his face.

"Lumos," Ginny says as her wand lit up. Pointing it at the walls, trying to find a switch for the light. She found and flipped it on. Ginny turned to see Harry with cuts and bruises all over his face, some of the cuts were still bleeding.

"It's you fighting the Death Eaters?" Ginny asked somewhat scared from looking at him. She noticed he was holding his side. "You need to go to St Mungo's."

"No, I can't," Harry spoke for the first time since outside the Burrow. "Please just help me."

"Okay," Ginny says walking towards before kneeling in front of him. Casting a spell on his face, she watched all the cuts and bruises disappear. "You could have done this yourself."

"I have a had worse one," Harry says trying to move but gave up before he pointed to his back.

"Can you stand again?" Ginny asked as she stands up holding out her hand for him.

He takes her hand peeling off the coat he had on. Blood was coming through his t-shirt as Ginny pull it up to see a large curse mark across his back. Raising her my wand before casting the strongest healing charm she knew. He groans in pain as the marks starts to disappear.

"Thank you," he smiled before taking a seat back down still looking in pain.

"I think I deserve an explanation Harry," Ginny shot at him as much as she was happy to see him, she was confused.

"Please sit down I will explain," he said patting the sofa beside him. Ginny sat down looking at him. "I'm sorry I know I'm worrying you. I have been going after Death Eaters under Polyjuice potion. I can't sit around doing nothing."

"You could have done something; you were going to become an Auror so why did you have to leave?" Ginny asked him blankly. She couldn't understand anything.

"I was but I need the Death Eaters to pay for what they did to Lupin, Tonks and Fred," Harry said as Ginny's brain was going round in circles.

"But you choose the option of running away leaving me behind," Ginny shot back making Harry flinch.

"I'm sorry," he said.

"You keep saying that, but you still did it; you left me for a nearly a year then my brother died, then you died, then somehow you came back then you run away leaving me again," Ginny cried. He didn't move he, just sat with his head in hands.

"I am the reason your brother is dead; if he had not been fighting, he would still be here, so why should I be happy?" he cried.

"Stop drowning in self-pity! Fred knew what he was getting himself into when he agreed to fight," Ginny cried harder. Harry pulled her into a hug' she didn't fight the hug because that all she wanted. "I want to go home, and I want you to come with me please."

"I can't, I need to do this Gin please understand," Harry pleaded.

"What about me Harry?" Ginny asked getting up pacing back and forward. "Do I not mean anything to you?"

"Yes of course you do; I know you are going back to school, but I want keep sending letters and when you are home at Christmas we will see each other again," he told her stopping her from pacing and pulling me into a hug. They looked at each other Ginny leant in to kiss him, but he backed away.

"So, you want to be my friend so I will keep your secret of where you are but that's it?" Ginny asked she felt hurt unable to understand the situation. "So, I can go to school and find a new boyfriend you won't be bothered?"

His face fell when she said that, but he understood why she did say it to make him feel the hurt she felt.

"Of course, it would hurt but I don't expect you to just give up dating so if you do find someone, I will be happy for you," he told her, but you could hear the strain and hurt in his voice.
