Silence filled the room with Setsuna being the first one to speak, "I'm sorry… but what the fuck you say?"
"Language Set-Chan," Inko said automatically.
"Would you like the long or short version?" Yagi asked.
"Long," Midna said, "If Bro takes your Quirk we need to know everything. Who you got it from, its history, possible repercussions and the like."
Yagi had to resist chuckling, "Oh Nezu is going to adore you once you get into U.A." He shook his head and settled into the chair, "Alright. At the Dawn of Quirks there were two brothers. The elder had the power to take and give Quirks as he saw fit with a power called 'All for One', the younger was seemingly Quirkless. Over time the elder brother built an organization which he used to rule Japan's criminal underworld and gained the title 'Demon King'. The younger brother confronted his elder brother, who to try to win over his younger sibling gave the young man a Quirk. It wasn't a powerful one, just a stockpiling Quirk that gained power overtime."
"But the younger brother did have a Quirk," Setsuna surmised, "If the older brother could move Quirks around, then the younger one could pass it on right?"
Yagi nodded, "Correct. The two Quirks merged, becoming 'One for All'. I don't know all the details that happened after that. Just that it was passed down from user to user, each person taking on the older brother who threw away his birth name and simply took on the name of his Quirm. The only user I know is my master, Nana Shimura. She died fighting All for One not long after I received the Quirk, so her partner, a man called Gran Torino who is now a retired Hero, took over training me…" Yagi shuddered at the memory of the man, "Honestly Gran Torino frightens me more than All for One. His training was… brutal," Shaking his head Yagi turned to Inko, "Honestly you look a little like Nana-Sensei. Are you related to her in some way?"
"I wouldn't know," Inko sighed, "I grew up in an orphanage. The Matron only told me the woman who dropped me off told her my name and left. The woman who left me there was wearing a hooded cloak so the Matron couldn't get a good look at her."
"So it's not impossible then," Naomasa chuckled, "How odd. I'm Yagi's my best friend, and I'm Izuku-Kun's uncle, and now we learn your mom might have been the previous user of One for All. Too many coincidences are piling up here."
"I agree," Yagi chuckled drily.
"I have a quire," Reiko stated, "If One for All stockpiles power… does it also contain the Quirks of past users? Quirks are a form of 'power and the stockpiling Quirk already fused with the First's Quirk so it might be possible."
"I… don't know," Yagi said scratching his pointed chin, "If it does I never accessed them."
"What's your original Quirk?" Setsuna asked. Yagi looked away and muttered something under his breath. "What was that?" The sharp toothed girl asked.
"I… I said I didn't have one. I was Quirkless…" Yagi sighed.
"WHAT?!" Izuku roared as he shot to his feet, "On that roof you said I couldn't be a Hero without a Quirk… and now you tell me you were QUIRKLESS?! YOU LEFT ME UP THERE ALONE YOU HYPOCRITE!"
"HE DID WHAT?!" Everyone roared as Yagi shrunk in on himself.
The group glared at the injured man as Naomasa took a deep breath, "Yagi. After this I will drag you to U.A. so we can have a talk with Nezu, and if possible Gran Torino. They taught you better than that…"
Yagi's and Naomasa's phones range before both answering and putting themselves on speaker, "Yes… we did. I'll make sure Torino-San is aware of our need to talk."
"Did… did Nezu hack into your phones just to back us up?" Midna asked as she put a hand on Izuku's shoulder, the verdette calming slightly and sitting down.
"Yes. Yes I did," Nezu replied, "And I can not wait to see the four of you attend U.A. I haven't seen such promising students in some time."
Midna gave a savage grin, "You know what? Do it. Give Bro the Quirk. It'll be the start of you making up for that stunt you pulled," Yagi and Naomasa shuddered. That grin was reminding them of Nezu, and parts of them wondered if Japan was doomed once the two met.
"Yes well… that was already the plan," Yagi stated trying to get himself back under control, "In order for Young Midoriya to be ready to receive One for All before going to U.A. He'll need to train heavily for the next ten months. If he agreed I was planning on making a training plan tonight. If he were to just receive it now, then… it wouldn't go well to put it mildly."
"Well at least you're planning on doing this safely," Inko stated.
"... Thr training plan is going to have a dumb name isn't it?" Setsuna snickered.
"... no comment," Yagi said, getting cackling laughs from Setsuna and Midna, while Reiko and Izuku just giggled slightly. Shaking his head, Yagi said, "Well to get back to the history of my Quirk. About five years ago I confronted All for One, and I killed him. Though he gave me this…" Here Yagi lifted his shirt showing the large and nasty looking scar on the side of his stomach, "In return. I lost my entire stomach, and most of my lungs. Honestly the only reason I'm still alive is because One for All is providing the necessary energy, but that won't last for much longer. My first sidekick David Shield has prepared artificial organs for me but the last couple times we've tried they've been rejected."
"One reason you're looking for a successor then," Inko stated, "And you think my son is the one? Even after what you said to him?"
Yagi gave a grin, "Ma'am one of the main reasons I would like Young Midoriya to be my successor is because he proved me wrong! All of the best heroes have one thing in common. They all have at least one moment where their bodies moved on their own in a time of need," His grin grew as he looked at Izuku, "And from what I saw that was the same when Young Midoriya leapt into action to save someone from the Slime Villain. He has the heart of a True Hero!"
"Of fucking course he does," Setsuna scoffed, "Doesn't take a genius to see that!"
"So… what kind of training were you thinking of?" Naomasa inquired.
"I was considering having him clean up part of Dagobah Municipal Beach," Yagi explained, "There's so much junk there of various sizes it would be the perfect workout, as it would affect his entire body, and it would also count as a bit of simple Heroics though community services…"
"No," Naomasa and Inko said in unison.
"You are not having my son clean that up," Inko stated, "With the amount of junk there, who knows how much rusted sharp metal there is."
"I agree with Inko-Chan," Naomasa grunted, "While it would be a good workout and get his foot in the door of heroics, the risks are too high. Doubly so since I know you don't plan to have Recovery Girl there in case things go wrong."
"Plus I was already thinking about training there myself," Midna said, getting everyone to look at her, "What? I was just gonna suck that junk into my shadow, and then move it to a proper junkyard. With all that stuff there I'd get a ton of experience with objects of different shapes and sizes… and this way I won't have to worry about damaging Ka-san's car. As a bonus I won't even need to physically touch any of it!"
"Bring it to Power Loader here at U.A. instead," Nezu said, making everyone jump as they thought he'd already hung up, "This way we can easily recycle anything useful, and take what's not to the proper facilities."
"Got it, Sensei," Midna said with a mock salute despite knowing Nezu couldn't see her.
"So what am I going to do about Young Midoriya's training then?" Yagi asked, "Without cleaning up the beach I don't know how to get Young Midoriya ready before U.A.'s entry exam."
"Bring him here," Nezu stated, "Aizawa-Kun has enough free time due to expelling his entire class. In fact… bring all four of them here!"
Reiko's eyes widened, "Why on earth would he do this when it robs the world of potential Heroes?"
Nezu sighed, "Every single one of his students fell into one of two categories. The first being they thought their powerful Quirks made them untouchable and the path to being a Hero would be easy. This leads to dead Heroes. The second is... Due to wanting to abuse the power Heroes get. Both of these Aizawa-Kun calls 'having no potential'."
"What about favoritism?" Inko inquired only to get an ominous cackle from Nezu.
"Oh don't worry. When the four get in, they don't have to worry about that… because we'll have higher expectations from them! Ta ta for now!"
Silence filled the room before a wide grin appeared on Midna's face, "Oh… I think I'm going to enjoy learning from Nezu-Sensei!"
"... And that's what scares me," Yagi shuddered.
"Well I think Yagi-san and I should be heading off," Naomasa said as he got to his feet, "You take care of your self Ink. You too, kids."
"Will do, Uncle!" Midna grinned as she gave him a hug, "And don't forget to drag this big oaf to U.A. so Nezu and Torino can tear into him."
Naomasa laughed as Yagi shuddered, "I wouldn't dream of forgetting about that! Come on Yagi," Yagi was shuddering as he got up, and the two men.
"So…" Setsuna said with a large grin showing off her sharp teeth, "If we're going to U.A. Tomorrow… Can Rei-Chan and I sleep here tonight?"
The next morning at eleven, Izuku, Midna, Inko, Setsuna, and Reiko were standing outside of U.A.'s closed gate or as it's more commonly known as the 'U.A. Barrier'. "Welp. We're here… how do we contact them?" Setsuna asked as she scratched her head, "It's not like we know anyone's phone number…"
"Ah. You're here! Good!" Nezu's voice came from a hidden speaker. Midna glanced up and saw a security camera aimed right at them "One of our robots will be out shortly with your guest ID cards."
"... Did he say robots?" Reiko inquired much to her friend's amusement and sure enough as the Barrier slid open. The giant slab of metal sank into the ground before a metal cover slid over it leaving a flat walkway revealing a white robot. It has an elongated head with a single round red eye, its arms and neck made of a silvery metallic tube, three fingers on each hand, a square steel body, and four crab-like legs.
"Guest passes for the Midoriya's and friends," It stated as it held out five cards in its hands, "These passes allow entrance to Ultra Academy High School. Do not leave the school grounds until your business is over as you will not be able to reenter. These passes will automatically destroy themselves once they leave the school grounds," Once everyone had their passes, the robot turned around, "I will lead you to the Principal's office. Please follow me."
The five glanced at each other and followed the robot. As they walked up to the building, Izuku was in a full mutter storm going over every hero he knew of that graduated from the school. Midna and Setsuna smirked at him while Reiko and Inko had small smiles. Midna, Setsuna and Reiko were always impressed by how much information Izuku could get though in a matter of minutes, how accurate all the information was and how quickly he could work through new information.
At first Inko was worried about all the mutterings, until Midna pointed out that Izuku was using it as a way to focus his thoughts and work through various problems. The mother and daughter did a bit of research and after a little bit of testing found that Midna and Izuku were autistic, though Izuku was a little higher on the spectrum then Midna. Doing a bit more research they found that one of the main differences between someone with autism and someone without it, was simply how they processed information.
One thing most autistic people had in common was the ability to hyperfocus on something that interests them, absorb as much information as possible and put it to work. It's one reason why Izuku was so damn good at analyzing Quirks. Once they arrived at Nezu's office which was on the third floor, the robot's head extended on a tube like its arms and turned to them, "Your destination. Have a good day."
As the robot left, Reiko looked at it for a couple more seconds before shrugging knocked on the door. "Enter!" Nezu's voice said from a speaker above the door. Opening the door the five saw a large well lit room, with a blue carpet that covered the entire floor, simple concrete walls, filled bookshelves lining the left wall, a few couches, a large dark wood desk, seven comfortable chairs sitting before the desk, and a few filing cabinets along the wall behind the desk. Sitting behind the desk was the small well dressed figure of Nezu. Sitting in one of the chairs is the familiar form of Toshinori Yagi. Sitting in another was a tall man with messy black hair that went to his shoulders, pitch black clothes, and a large light gray scarf.
As the group entered they heard the black haired man say, "What do you want from me you damn Rat? I was trying to catch up on some sleep."
Nezu grinned, "It's simple Aizawa-kun! Toshi-kun has found a successor however the young man needs to be properly trained."
Aizawa groaned, "And you want me to do it since I expelled my entire class."
"So you're the one who kicks people out for 'no potential' huh?" Midna smirked, "Nice to meet ya Sensei! Hope we don't disappoint!"
Aizawa twirled around revealing his black eyes, and large eyebags showing the man didn't get enough sleep. Locking eyes on Midna he raised an eyebrow, "Aren't you the one who was on the news yesterday?"
"...wait what?" Midna asked confused while behind her Setsuna and Reiko grinned, "I was on the news? I mean apart from helping to save Bro and Baka-go from the Slime Villain."
"Indeed!" Nezu chuckled as he motioned for the group to sit. "However, before we continue. Would you all like some tea?" Once everyone was seated and given a cup of tea, Nezu sat and clasped his paws together, "Your lecture to the Heroes after the Slime Villain was arrested was aired on the news. I must say your analysis of the situation was spot on! Who taught you about analysis Midoriya-Chan?"
Midna, Setsuna and Reiko pointed at Izuku causing the verdette to blush and shrink in on himself slightly, "Izuku-Kun has a natural talent with unraveling the mysteries around Quirks and tactics," Reiko explained.
"Though sometimes he does doubt his own skills thanks to some assholes bullying him," Setsuna shrugged before giving a confident grin, "We're working on that though. He's damn good at it! He's better than me and Reiko by far and we're the top of our classes!" Reiko nodded in agreement.
Nezu's eyes sparkled while Aizawa simply studied Izuku before suddenly asking, "What's your Quirk?"
"I… I don't have one Sir. I'm Quirkless…" Izuku said quietly. There was something about Aizawa that was familiar but the verdette couldn't place it.
"A waste of time," Aizawa stated as he got to his feet, "Even with One for All you'd be a liability since there's nothing to…"
"I was also Quirkless when I got One for All," Yagi said glaring at Aizawa who froze in his spot and slowly turned to the skinny man, "It's why I'm so strong and fast. The Quirk had nothing else to boost, even if my Master was stronger than you'd expect, most of the power went to her Quirk."
"What was her Quirk?" Inko asked, "You told us just about everything but her'sand Gran Torino's Quirks."
Yagi face palmed, "How did I forget about that? My Master's Quirk was 'Float'. At first it simply allowed her to float in the air kinda like a balloon. Once she got One for All she was able to fly, like… I'm blanking on his name at the moment but he was a hero who wore blue with a red cape in those old Pre-Quirk comics. Torino-Sensei's Quirk is 'Jet'. He's able to shoot air out the bottom of his feet to move at great speeds…" the sound of pencil on paper filled the air as Izuku had once more pulled a notebook and pencil out of seemingly nowhere to write everything down.
Yagi chuckled before turning to Aizawa, "I will freely admit, that I'm not the best teacher, hell I don't have any experience and with you and possibly Nezu taking over training Young-Midoriya I'll be able to focus on… Other things I need to do," Aizawa gave a subtle nod showing he understood what Yagi was implying.
"Fine," Aizawa grunted as he turned to the five guests, "My name is Aizawa Shota. I'm the Underground Hero Ereaserhead…"
Izuku's eyes shot open, "I knew there was a reason I recognized you! You were one of the main Heroes responsible for defeating the Villain Factory and cutting down on Trigger shipments in Japan! Your Eraser Quirk lets you temporarily remove the Quirks of anyone you look at as long as it's not a Mutant Type! Hence why you studied several kinds of martial arts to make up for the lack of a more combat oriented Quirk!"
Aizawa groaned, "Damn media. So, will I be training the rest of you?"
"Nah," Setsuna said waving a hand, "I already have a recommendation from Rock Lock due to my Quirk. Any more help getting in and it'll feel like getting in is being handed to me on a silver platter. I have a few ideas on ways I can train on my own. Small things I can do before getting here and learning new ways to use my Quirk from a Pro. I mostly just came since Nezu-Sensei invited me and to be a bit of emotional support for Izu-Kun."
"I must agree," Reiko stated, "Recently my spectral power, which is known as Poltergeist, has become strong enough to lift my mortal form, as such I wish to train on lifting as many objects as I can before attending this establishment."
"I already have some training in mind, which you already know about Nezu-Sensei," Midna grinned.
Nezu's grin grew as he held out two small cards, "Indeed I do! In fact, here is a special Guest Pass that will allow you to deliver the scrap from Dagoba Beach to Power Loader. This second card is a temporary Quirk Licence so you won't get in trouble while cleaning up the beach. However I would like to know more about your Quirk Midoriya-Chan. Would you please explain it in detail?"
Midna chuckled, "Alright… it's kinda complicated though. I call it 'Shadow Force' and it gives me a few abilities. For one I can either turn my body into shadows dodging most attacks or go into my shadow, as well as pull other people or objects into it. As far as I know I don't have a limit on the amount of items I can store, which is one reason why I'm planning to clean up Dagobah Beach, since it has a ton of junk. I also can summon wolves made of shadows though they are fully physical, my current limit is ten wolves at once…"
"She called them her 'puppies'," Setsuna cackled, getting a giggle from Inko and Izuku and an annoyed look from Midna.
"Thanks for interrupting me Set-Chan," Midna deadpanned, "Currently that's all I've got but I'm positive that I can do way more. I just don't know how yet."
"What kind of abilities do you think you'll unlock?" Nezu inquired.
"Teleportation for one," Midna said, "Though I don't think I'll be able to just do it at will."
"How do you know?" Aizawa asked, "Teleportation Quirks are rare."
"Just call it… a woman's intuition," Midna grinned before shrugging, "As for what else… not sure."
"So… If you four are willing to indulge my curiosity. What kind of heroes do you want to become and why?" Nezu inquired.
"With my spectral skills, an Underground Hero would suit me best," Reiko stated, "The same as my grandfather who used his ability to merge into the darkness to hide his presence. He saved several people including my grandmother which is how they met. Part of me wonders if I too shall meet my fated one during the hours of spirits."
"A Detective Hero would most likely suit me best," Setsuna smirked as one of her eyes popped out of her head and floated in the air, "My Lizard Tail Splitter Quirk not only let's me separate my body similar to Buggy the Clown from the Pre-Quirk anime One Piece. I can send the different parts of my body out to… about eight meters now last time I checked, but that was a few months ago so I don't know if my range has improved. Apart from that if any of my body parts are destroyed I can regrow them… I don't want to try that with my organs for obvious reasons."
Izuku shifted uncomfortably causing the three girls to give him kind smiles as Inko put a hand on her son's shoulders, "Go on Izuku-kun. No one here will judge you," Inko sent a quick glare at Aizawa. The man showed no signs of remorse for his earlier comment.
"I… I want to become a hero like All Might. One whose presence brings ease to civilians. One who brings hope. I can't be a copy of All Might… no one can. I'm me, that means I need to be a hero my way," Izuku said, getting a small nod from Nezu and Yagi while Aizawa just grunted, "I… I also want to remind people that a hero's job isn't fame, glory or money… It's helping people."
Aizawa gave Izuku a slightly surprised look. Most of the time when kids say they wanna be like All Might, they mean being strong and defeating villains. This kid however knew something that most pro's he'd met forgot. The people came first, everything else second.
"Looks like you do have some potential after all," Aizawa grunted, "Fine. I'll help teach you, but you better put your all into it. If I at any point feel like you're starting to slack off, I'll drop your training immediately. Got it?"
"Y-yes Sensei!" Izuku said with a small grin. He then gained a small blush and held out his notebook, "Oh and… can I have your autograph please?" Aizawa was shocked. Even after the Villain Factory incident no one asked for his autograph as everyone saw him as too grumpy or a creepy hobo due to his wardrobe.
As the sleep deprived man signed the notebook, he glanced at Midna. He figured she'd be a Limelight Hero like her brother, "I want to be an Underground Hero," Midna grinned. The shock that statement gave Aizawa almost had him dropping the notebook, "Back up my bro from the shadows so he doesn't get it in his head that he bares the worlds on his shoulders. A building with a single pillar can't stand. It's one reason I want to work towards there being multiple Symbols, and not just in Japan either. We need Symbols around the world if we want the Age of Heros to last. We also need the borders that some governments had put up around their countries to come down. As it is, it's illegal for Heroes from some countries such as Japan to travel, unless they follow very strict regulations. That's not a 'fair' or 'just' system! Are Quirk's powerful? Yes, but doesn't the fact that basically everyone has a Quirk cut down on dangers a bit? For Din's sake, being a Hero is basically being a member of police special forces, but the police or anyone who's not a registered Hero can travel all they want!"
Yagi coughed into his hand, "Young Midoriya there are some ways for you to help people without being a Hero if that's a concern…"
"Don't you DARE start with that speech!" Midna growled, turning to Yagi, her eyes flashing with rage, "You told my brother to 'be realistic', do you know what that means to someone Quirkless in Japan these days? I checked last night after we got the full story about you two on that roof, and there hasn't been a single Quirkless person in the police force, fire fighters or Japan's defense force in over twenty five years. Hell the amount of Quirkless people with jobs in Japan is less than twenty percent from the most recent study! The rest are either homeless, retired, go missing, become victims of Villains or have to live with their families for their entire life. So how's that for 'being realistic'?" Yagi went pale as he, Nezu and Aizawa flinched. None of them had known about the most recent study on Quirkless People in Japan. Aizawa didn't really care as he was already low on sleep due to somehow being convinced to become a teacher at U.A. when he already had a night job as an Underground Hero.
Nezu should have known but due to a slow rise in crime on top of the day to day management being the principle of the top hero school in Japan required had kept him distracted. His hyper intelligent mind was already making plans on how to correct this travesty. Yagi… Yagi was shell shocked. Those figures were drastically different from when he was young. Had Japan really changed that much without him realizing it? This needed to change, at least he had one of the smartest people on the planet on his side and he didn't even need to guess that Nezu was already making plans to fix this.
Setsuna, Reiko, Izuku and Inko were shocked. Two Midna Rants in as many days? They'd never seen that before. Nezu coughed into his paw, "Well… moving on from that… disturbing news. Let's go into young Midoriya-Kun's training shall we?"
Author's Notes:
When planning this I wanted Midna's rants/lectures to be rare, kinda hiding her intelligence in a way so she can be more fun/upbeat and surprise people with how smart she is… yet in the two chapters I've written each one has had a Midna Rant… oops lol
