Dipper was at least able to lose track of time, he didn't know how long he was there, but he was forced out of his misery by footsteps approaching him, cautiously at first then more surely soon after.
"Dipper?" The voice was familiar, Wendy. He wasn't surprised that she could find him, she knew the woods better than anyone else. He looked up at her, he still remembered how he wanted to be her age, now he wanted to be nothing but an innocent child. He wanted to cry, but his eyes were unable to make tears, probably because it would be a sign of weakness.
"I'm sorry." He immediately covered his face, he didn't know how he would be able to look at anyone, he couldn't even look at himself.
"Why are you saying sorry?" He heard her walking closer to him and sitting down beside him.
"I feel like all of this is my fault." He mumbled it to himself, but she seemed to have heard him.
"I don't think it's anyone's fault, well, except for that woman's, what was her name?"
"Death."
"Right, Death, what a weird name, do you think she really governs over who dies?"
"She doesn't govern over who lives."
"Do you say that because you know who does?"
"You could say so."
They sat in silence a bit, he could feel her trying to come up with something to say, but eventually she just leaned back and sat with him, weirdly it made him feel better.
Some time passed and he knew she couldn't stay there forever.
"I think it's time we go back." He could feel her look at him.
"I don't want to."
"You'll have to eventually, so do it now." Dipper stayed silent, contemplating what she said and he finally looked at her.
"I can't face them and I just feel so lost." Her eyes softened, he felt like a little boy the way she looked at him.
"I'll be there to help you face them, you don't need to worry about anything." She placed her hand on his and made him stand up, he didn't know why, but he went after her, following her.
We reached Bills house soon after, Dipper wondered if Wendy has already been to his house that she knew the way there. No one was outside and he felt relieved, but it means he will need to face them in a room with four walls.
Wendy simply walked in and he suddenly also remembered that he was angry at Bill and Gideon, but it was too late to leave.
The first person he saw was Mabel, she was sitting on the couch spacing out like she usually would, she happened to move her eyes towards me and Wendy, she jumped off the couch and came running to me, she hugged me with her tiny hands, I went back to my original size and age and hugged her back.
"Never run off like that again, don't you know how worried I was?"
"I'm sorry."
"Dummy." She lightly bumped my shoulder and I couldn't help myself and laugh.
Bill and Gideon appeared from what appeared to be a kitchen, they crossed their hands and stood on either side of the open door, they looked so in sync when they did it, he started to wonder if it was part of the power granted to them.
"Are you ready to hear the rest of the story?" Bill asked, he looked annoyed, but his voice didn't give it away.
"There is more?" He didn't know if he should feel relived or scared from hearing more.
"There is always more." Bill pushed himself away from the door walked into the living room with Gideon following him. Dipper followed them with his eyes.
"I didn't lie to you when I said she can be stopped if we killed her." Bill stopped near the couch and turned around to face Dipper. Gideon sat down on the couch staring at him as well.
"She's an old being who's bored with her own existence." Gideon chimed in.
"So what are you trying to say by that?" Dipper narrowed his eyes, he was suspicious of what they were trying to tell him.
"We are trying to say, she won't come back, you fulfilled her requirements needed for the world to survive, maybe not exactly for forever, there's still Wendy for her to deal with, but otherwise, she won't be coming back for a few more years." Bill finished and Gideon leaned back on the couch.
"Man, I forgot about Wendy, isn't it about time for Life to come back as well?" Gideon looked at Bill, waiting for confirmation, but Bill only shrugged.
"I don't really care if Life comes back or not, never met the dude and don't really ever want to meet him."
"Didn't Aurelia say he will be visiting all the worlds Death made?"
"That won't happen any time soon, the dude will be busy the first 20 years remembering who is and after remembering, there is no guarantee this world is going to be the first one he visits."
"Who even is Life?" Wendy spoke about, more confused than anyone in the room.
"There can't be Death with no Life, they're like bounded by light and dark, forever inseparable."
"You said that death will be fine and have her body restored, why would it take him 20 years to get anywhere?" Dipper was starting to think they're full of bullshit.
"Death uses a core, a destroyed core is no problem, it can be restored and her form will be made around it, Life? He refuses to make anything that will make his reincarnations easier, he gets killed? No problem, he'll wait. Some even say it's a punishment to Death for killing him, making her wait to meet another being like her."
"She killed him?" Dipper asked.
"It's what everyone else says, she gets annoyed with him and gets rid of him, but then they acquire a moment of peace when he just comes back." Bill responded.
"Before we move on, what does she want with me?" Wendy looked at the two demons.
"The same as with Dipper." They looked away.
"What did she want with me?"
"To play the role of the main character, Wendy was supposed to play the same role."
"She could have simply kidnapped her as well."
"Not with you there, you would have tried to play the hero and refused to listen to her."
"Yeah, sounds about right." Dipper nodded.
"Are you guys really considering how I would have been kidnapped?" Wendy asked in disbelief.
"At least the good thing is that you didn't end up like Dipper." Mabel blurted out.
"What is that supposed to mean?" Dipper looked at Mabel questioningly.
"No, nothing, I didn't mean anything." Mabel bolted out of the house. "Waddles!" The group heard Mabel call out to her pig.
"That was kind of anticlimactic." Wendy said while still looking at the door from where Mabel run out of.
"Either way, we don't have to worry about her visiting us for another decade at least."
"What happens if she does come back?" Dipper looked at Bill, but Gideon answered.
"Hope that nothing is going on at the time of her visit." Gideon got off the coach and started walking towards the door. "Well, I'll be off, I have not seen my parents for a while, I kinda miss them." Gideon took on his child form and walked out of the door.
"What will you be doing?" Dipper looked at Bill.
"Nothing, I'll enjoy my existence as a human, but do drop by and be responsible with your powers." Bill started to usher them out.
Dipper and Wendy walked side by side as they waved Bill goodbye.
"Now it's for you and Mr Pines to talk to."
"Yeah and his twin brother."
"He has a twin?"
"Yeah."
They walked the rest of the way back, despite Dippers slight nervousness, he was able to talk it out with Grunkle Stan and his twin brother. Dipper was feeling like he will be able to mix back with the rest of the people in this world. But he felt like he needed to talk to Wendy the most out of everyone.
He took her to the side, made sure no one was nearby to listen in on them, he started to talk. "I just wanted to say all of this probably could have been avoided if I wasn't a fool who had a crush on you and to fulfil that agreed to make it easier for myself. I won't say I am a better person out of all of this, but I do understand that I was a fool and me getting older won't change your situation." Dipper looked down, waiting for her to say something, but he felt her hand on his head before her speaking.
"That's alright Dipper, all of us want to be a bit foolish at least once in our lives, all that matters is that you aren't part of her crew anymore." Dipper looked at her smiling face before she started walking away. He felt such relief that he had to stay there for a bit longer so he wouldn't walk back in smiling like an idiot.
Yeah, life wasn't great by all means, but he loved it the way it was, as a preteen boy.
