Chapter 13

At Kala'e Bay, our friends and I are relaxing at the beach with our swimsuits as we play in the water. While having a water fight, we notice a school of Wishiwashi shimmering in the water.

"Those are Wishiwashis..." Selene says.

"Judging by the looks of them, they seem to be less than Level 20." I say, knowing that once it gets to Level 20, its ability Schooling will cause it to become a giant behemoth, Palmer uses one before.

Determined to catch one, I wade in and offer Berries. "Hey, I'm Ash. Want to join my team?"

Carefully, I toss some Berries into the water as a gesture of goodwill. The Wishiwashi cautiously nibble at the treats, gradually growing more relaxed in my presence.

With a patient and gentle approach, I extend my hand, hoping to connect with one of the Wishiwashi. Surprisingly, one of the smaller ones swims closer, looking at me with curious eyes. With a swift throw, my Poké Ball captures it. "Yes! Welcome, Wishiwashi!" Cheers erupt from Pikachu and my friends, thrilled about the new addition to our team.

Wishiwashi (Solo Form): The Small Fry Pokemon: Water Type. When it's in trouble, its eyes moisten and begin to shine. The shining light attracts its comrades, and they stand together against their enemies.

As we decide to race towards the rocks, our attention is drawn to the presence of Corsola in the vicinity. However, they swiftly vacate the area as a group of Mareanie emerges. "Mareanie!"

"No way! Mareanies! I've got to catch one!" Selene's love for Poison Types is evident, and she immediately rushes after the Mareanie. We have to quickly intervene and pull her back before things escalate, but she still manages to capture one.

"That was a close call. When you see Mareanie traveling in groups, they can be pretty dangerous," cautions Professor Kukui.

"Got one, at least," Selene remarks with a hint of triumph in her voice.

"Yeah..." I respond, heading towards the beachside. There, I encounter a lone Mareanie that suddenly attaches itself to my head. "Ash!" Lillie yells in shock.

"Don't worry..." I reassure them, gently placing the Mareanie down. "See, nothing's wrong."

"Just because you're an Arceus and you have the Iron Plate..." Nate mutters. It's common knowledge among our classmates that I'm an Arceus, thanks to Trenor, who arrived a year before me and probably spilled the secret back then.

"But your face looks a little purple..." Selene observes, noticing the poison acid on my face. Surprisingly, the Mareanie seems unusually drawn to me. Quickly, I shake off the poison acid from my face and cautiously ask, "Do you want to stay with us?"

To our astonishment, Mareanie appears genuinely delighted at the invitation to join us. It seems content with the idea of staying together. So, without hesitation, we decide to capture it as well.

Mareanie: The Brutal Star Pokemon: Poison and Water Type. It plunges the poison spike on its head into its prey. When the prey has weakened, Mareanie deals the finishing blow with its 10 tentacles.

We make our way to the Alola Photo Club, eager to capture some memorable moments. After a fun photo session, we exit the club, only to be greeted by Hau.

"Hey, there you are, guys!" Hau exclaims cheerfully as he spots us, a wide grin on his face.

"Hau... and your Rowlet evolved!" I gasp in amazement at the sight of his newly evolved Dartrix.

"I bet you and your Pokemon got a great shot together at the photo club, right? Now it's time for our next stop! Akala Island, here we come!" Hau expresses his excitement.

However, Lillie interjects, "We can't head there just yet because we still have school to attend. But don't worry, Professor Kukui mentioned that we'll have a month-long Akala School Trip, so we'll just need to wait until then."

"I see..." Hau sighs, a hint of disappointment in his voice.

Rosa, curious about our photo-taking plans, asks, "So you're not going to take any photos?"

Hau chuckles, "Man, once I get started with all the poses, stickers, and everything, I can't stop myself! I'll spend ages making sure Dartrix is looking awesome. So, I should hold off on taking any photos of my own for now. Wouldn't want to leave you bored and hanging!" His enthusiasm for perfecting his photos is evident, despite his decision to postpone taking his own shots."

Excited about the prospect of delicious pancakes, we make a stop at Nina's pancake store. While enjoying our treats, we learn about an ongoing Pancake Race happening nearby. Intrigued, we decide to check it out, especially when we hear about Pikachu's rivalry with an Alolan Raichu participating in the race.

As we arrive at the event, the competitive atmosphere is palpable. The race begins, and both Pikachu and Alolan Raichu show incredible speed and determination. However, to our surprise, the ultimate winner of the race turns out to be Samson Oak's Komala, emerging victorious despite not being an Electric-type Pokémon like Pikachu and Raichu. The unexpected outcome leaves us all amazed and amused by Komala's impressive performance.

"Everyone! Come quick!" We call out, gathering our classmates to witness the long-awaited moment as our egg begins to hatch. Lillie beams with excitement, exclaiming, "We're going to meet Snowy for the first time, Ash!"

"Yeah," I respond with anticipation, and Kiawe curiously asks, "Snowy?"

"That's the name we've chosen for this Pokémon," I explain, as the egg finally cracks open, revealing an adorable Alolan Vulpix.

"Snowy! It's great to finally meet you!" I greet the newly hatched Vulpix, and it turns around, facing us with a beaming smile, radiating warmth and joy.

As the excitement of our Alolan Vulpix hatching fills the room, Samson Oak rushes in with urgency, exclaiming, "Everyone! The Egg's unlocking! I hold the Klefki!"

Turning our attention towards Samson Oak, we witness the hatching of another egg, revealing a Kantonian Vulpix. "So that's a Vulpix as well?" Trenor inquires, clearly surprised.

"I thought both of them looked ready to hatch, but never on the same day," Professor Kukui remarks, sharing our astonishment at the unexpected coincidence.

"Amazing! It's a delightful surprise," Samson Oak expresses joyfully. "This makes me so hap-Eevee!" he adds with a playful nod to another Pokémon species, celebrating the double joy of the simultaneous Vulpix hatching.

Everyone expresses their joy after seeing both Vulpix being born, and our Pokemon are happy to see the two Vulpix. Kiawe comments, "It's quite rare to see a red Vulpix out here."

"Nice to meet you, Vulpix," Nate tries to greet the two Vulpix. The red Vulpix responds cheerfully, while Snowy, the Alolan Vulpix, retaliates by unleashing a Powder Snow attack. "Snowy! That's not right..."

Responding swiftly, the red Vulpix uses Ember to free Nate from the ice, despite Snowy's actions. Nate, thawed out and slightly surprised, mutters a quiet "Thanks..." appreciating the rescue.

"You got to experience 60 below breath right off the bat and an Ember to boot," Sophocles remarks, sympathizing with Nate's unexpected encounter.

"You might have been too sudden when you tried to touch it," Rosa sighs, offering a plausible explanation to her brother.

"Yeah, I guess you're right..." Nate responds, reflecting on the situation. Then, our attention shifts as we notice Snowy nuzzling affectionately against Lillie and me.

"They're both Vulpix, but their personalities are different," Professor Kukui observes, highlighting the distinct traits between the two Vulpix.

While the red Vulpix happily engages and plays with the other Pokémon, Snowy seems to exhibit nervousness around the group of Pokémon, indicating a more timid disposition. She looks at us with worry, and Lillie says, "Don't worry, they just want to be your friends."

As we contemplate the future and the responsibility of caring for the Vulpix, we collectively weigh our options. After careful consideration, we reach a decision: to leave the Vulpix in the care of those who have nurtured them thus far. This means that Snowy becomes our Pokémon.

Observing Snowy's comfort and attachment towards me and Lillie, everyone unanimously agrees that this is the best choice. The Vulpix's ease and trust towards us solidify our resolve to take Snowy under our care, knowing that it's a positive and comfortable bond for all involved.

Vulpix (Alolan Form): The Fox Pokemon: Ice Type. It exhales air colder than -58 degrees Fahrenheit. Elderly people in Alola call this Pokémon by an older name—Keokeo.

After the day's classes, we eagerly return home, excited to introduce Snowy, our Alolan Vulpix, to our other Pokémon. As we bring Snowy into the presence of our existing Pokémon team, we notice their immediate attraction to the beautiful white Vulpix. Each of them is drawn to Snowy's presence, displaying curiosity and interest.

However, despite the attention, Snowy appears a bit nervous amidst the newfound interaction. It's evident that the attention from the other Pokémon, though well-intentioned, is causing a slight unease in her demeanor. Nonetheless, our Pokémon are welcoming and gentle, allowing Snowy time to acclimate and feel more comfortable in their company.

The next night, we decide to have dinner with Professor Kukui, we are surprised to find Rockruff getting back into the house with scratches and bruises on his body.

Concerned by Rockruff's condition, I express my worry, "Rockruff? What happened to you?" We quickly tend to the Pokémon's injuries, healing its scratches and bruises.

Lillie inquires, "Do you think Rockruff was in a fight?"

Expressing his disappointment, Kukui sighs, "I told you. You were supposed to stay in the house while we were gone." It becomes clear that Rockruff must have ventured outside despite being instructed to remain indoors during their absence.

Gathering our classmates together, we discuss Rockruff's recent predicament and its connection to Professor Kukui. We explain how Rockruff isn't actually Professor Kukui's Pokémon; instead, it followed him home after he provided it with food.

Detailing the situation, we share that Rockruff was found injured, even though it was supposed to stay indoors, we believe that it is evolving, so we decide to spend a night to see what actually is going on. Of course, we have our parents' permission to stay.

As we secretly follow Rockruff, we discover its repeated visits to Clawmark Hill. There, ahead of us, stand two impressive Lycanroc – one in its Midday Form and the other in its Midnight Form. Their calls resonate, drawing numerous Pokémon, including Rockruff, towards them.

As the Pokémon gather, a tense atmosphere envelops the area. The two Lycanroc engage in a face-off, their confrontation captivating the attention of every onlooking Pokémon. A brief yet intense clash unfolds between the Lycanroc, inciting a ripple of energy among the assembled creatures.

Driven by the charged atmosphere, the Pokémon begin testing their strengths against one another. Among them, a Magmar stands out, engaging in battles against multiple opponents simultaneously. Eventually, Rockruff steps up to challenge the fiery opponent, initiating a battle against the Magmar.

Watching the unfolding events, I can't help but feel concerned for Rockruff's safety. As the battle intensifies, Rockruff prepares for an attack, only to be struck by a sudden Flamethrower before executing its move. Despite its efforts, Rockruff is gradually overpowered and ultimately knocked out in a fierce confrontation.

Returning to the house, we approach Rockruff with concern and care. "Rockruff, how are you doing?" I inquire, seeking to comfort the Pokémon after its intense battle.

Lillie gently scratches Rockruff's head, praising its bravery. "You're amazing. You were so cool, taking on all those strong Pokémon!" she compliments. Observing the Pokémon closely, she notices something peculiar. "Rockruff, wasn't this glowing a while ago? The Professor said you were ready to use a move."

Rockruff tilts its head in response, seeming to understand the conversation. I then propose an idea, "Hey, would you like to do some training together? To learn a new move?"

In response to the suggestion, Rockruff barks happily, showing its enthusiasm for the training opportunity. We decide to dedicate the following day to train Rockruff, aiming to help it prepare and develop new skills to face the challenging Magmar once again.

The following day, Professor Kukui explains the potential of Rockruff learning the move Rock Throw, prompting us to focus on training. Everyone offers their assistance, though concerns arise about me potentially becoming the target of Rockruff's developing Rock Throw attack.

Despite the worries, we persist with the training regimen, dedicated to helping Rockruff master its new move. We work together, providing guidance and support to the determined Rockruff.

After the training concludes, Rockruff feels ready for a rematch against the Magmar. The battle commences, with Rockruff showcasing agility by evading the initial Flamethrower attack. Seizing the opportunity, Rockruff strikes the Magmar, but the fiery opponent retaliates fiercely, sending Rockruff flying.

Undeterred, Rockruff evades another Flamethrower, preparing to unleash its newly learned Rock Throw. However, before it can execute the move, it's struck by yet another Flamethrower. Despite the setback, Rockruff remains determined, charging towards Magmar.

In a powerful exchange of attacks, Rockruff and Magmar clash repeatedly. Despite the intense battle, Rockruff refuses to give up. With sheer determination, it manages to outmaneuver Magmar, delivering the final blows until the fiery Pokémon is defeated, marking a hard-earned victory for Rockruff.

"You were amazing, Rockruff," I praise the victorious Pokémon.

Trenor, impressed by the outcome, comments, "Brother, I know you wanted to help Rockruff train, but I can't believe you pulled it off."

Lillie interjects, "Well, we're not sure that it'll turn out like this. So what do you say, Rockruff? That Rock Throw of yours was beyond awesome!"

Expressing its gratitude, Rockruff nuzzles us affectionately, clearly appreciating the support and encouragement.

Professor Kukui, contemplating the situation, makes a suggestion. "At the risk of sounding selfish, I have a suggestion. Maybe this is a good time to catch Rockruff."

Surprised by the proposal, we respond, "Really? Are you sure? You're the one who's been taking care of Rockruff for so long."

"No, it's totally fine," Professor Kukui assures us. "At this point, Rockruff has more trust in you than anybody else. Thanks to you, Rockruff perfected Rock Throw, and that allowed it to defeat Magmar. As far as I'm concerned, you're obviously the perfect partners."

Then we decide to capture the Rockruff, who is happy to join our team.

Rockruff: The Puppy Pokemon: Rock Type. This Pokémon has lived with people since times long ago. It can sense when its Trainer is in the dumps and will stick close by its Trainer's side.
