Roxas rode into camp the next morning in a particularly good mood. Dawn had yet to break. Oblivion slowed, striding to the stables leisurely and a smile curved at the man's lips. He rewarded the horse with gentle praise, stroking his silky mane. He loved a good reckoning, and he'd been hoping to get even with Sora one day for a long time now. Too long.

The kid had always been conveniently hidden away. Safe in his ranks amongst the rangers. It had irritated Roxas. Riku knew how vindictive he was when given the chance. Roxas was sure he was the culprit, but now he finally had him. Roxas smiled darkly. Before he was done with him, the scales would be tipped in his favor. If he had anything to say about it. Just thinking about that kid filled him with irritation. It had felt good to let some of it out. Sora hadn't even begun to beg him for mercy. Not yet.

Roxas pursed his lips as he thought. The kid had made quite the name for himself back when they first met. The young gun that had been in the right place at the right time. Wet behind the ears, even, and still arrogant enough to brag about it. Being the one to catch him had been quite the accomplishment. Newsworthy, even. Roxas scoffed in disgust. Sora was a real boy wonder. Especially in the eyes of his mentor, Riku. Got a whole lot of praise for not putting in any effort. Roxas hated cowards. That's exactly what amused him the most about Sora's current predicament.

He hummed softly, thoughtfully. Saix had really outdone himself this time. Roxas knew what he wanted, too. Affection. Acknowledgment. He eyed the camp. Most of them did. Especially from him. He sighed, supposing he could give in, just a little bit. It wasn't something he did often but he knew that Saix genuinely meant it, that he actually looked up to him. It had still been dark when the man had ridden out to meet him, making sure he could go back early after a long night with Sora. The man really was one of the most loyal in this lot.

Roxas hummed softly, letting his mind wander. He mused about Axel, wondering where the future would take them. Zexion had become irreplaceable to him after becoming his partner. Invaluable, even. He hoped the kid would be the same. Most'a 'em had respect for him. Some fear from the captives they'd picked up. Some opposition from the more opinionated ones. Mostly respect. He chose his lot just as much as it had chosen him. Even the ones that had no business being entangled with him. Like Demyx and Axel. Maybe Olette, if he gave her enough time.

He shook his head softly and tended to Oblivion in the stables, offering an apple and tethering him beside Oathkeeper before he continued on. He mused about fate as he walked. Upon returning to his quarters, he closed his eyes, thinking about the kid that had completely captured his attention. That had saved his life twice, no less. How fate had brought them together again.

Roxas observed silently for a moment, taking in his surroundings. Zexion and Demyx were outside having breakfast. Once, he would have never imagined them being a pair. Now, they were wrapped around each other, inseparable. He smiled wryly, speaking once he was in earshot. "Mind if I join ya'?" He asked from behind. Zexion, not the least bit startled, nodded to him. He was used to the way Roxas moved. More than most. The man's quiet movements were nothing new to him.

"'course not," he answered. "Mornin', Roxas." Roxas nodded, settling down across from them and getting comfortable by the fire. The sun would be rising soon. "Feelin' better, huh," the man observed. Going riding always made Roxas happy. He was in much better spirits. The blond glanced at him over the flames, stretching lazily. He actually was, despite staying up all night. After his back cracked satisfyingly, the corners of his mouth lifted and he found himself watching the pair. He hadn't realized until now, Demyx had fallen asleep in Zexion's arms. He nodded and eyed the man knowingly.

"You too," he purred. "Ya' know, I thought 'e was bein' awful quiet. Wore 'im out, huh?" Zexion's expression didn't change in the slightest, revealing nothing. He held Roxas' gaze, unfazed. The blond smiled wryly before tsking in disappointment. "You ain't no fun. Fine. How's Axel?" he purred softly.

"Good. He was in pain so Demyx found Olette. She came by a while ago. Ain't come out since." Roxas raised a brow, humming softly. Leaving the medic tent to briefly tend to Axel was about the only time she left at all. Anything more or less was unheard of. Then again, he supposed he wasn't the most fun to be around so she probably made a point of avoiding him. One of the many perks of being the bad guy that derailed her life, he supposed. Being he hadn't been around this morning, she was probably a lot more relaxed. He was all the more intrigued when he heard laughter. Hers.

"They been like that long?" he asked, mildly curious. Zexion hummed in affirmation.

"Mostly," he answered. "Might be th' medicine. Axel's been pretty happy." Roxas poured himself some coffee and hummed interestedly, sipping at it as he watched his second. The man wasn't going to give in to his teasing yet. That was fine, he could be patient. He'd already gotten to pick on Demyx, after all. He tipped his head back, letting himself relax. The morning air was still cool. He closed his eyes, inhaling deeply. Smelled like a storm was gonna be rollin' in. They needed it, too. Ground was absolutely parched. Dark grays were mingling with golden hues in the early morning light. He smiled a bit. It was gonna be a good one, too. He smiled widely. Perfect weather for their captive to be caught up in. Roxas didn't particularly care one way or the other if something happened to Sora. In his opinion, 'd be good for him to get broken down to nothin'.

"Thanks, Zexion," he murmured, flicking his gaze to the man across from him. "For lookin' after 'im." Zexion nodded back.

"Bet ya' didn't ev'n relax," he sighed. "Ya' go see Sora then?" Roxas snorted softly and nodded, drinking his coffee. The man knew him too well.

"Made 'im beg for 'is life, too," he answered nonchalantly.

"How'd ya' manage that?" Ocean blue eyes glinted with mirth. His second in command frowned at him.

"Luck. Gun jammed." He chuckled dangerously, "Made 'im cry, even." He took a long drink before sighing. "Don' you look at me like that Zexion, He wasn't cooperatin'," he chided. "You know I don' like that." The man pursed his lips in response. They'd had disagreements like this for a long time, now. Roxas never did care much when it came to listening to his opinion on the matter. Never had, either. Roxas was extremely stubborn. Still, he reminded,

"Roxas. Ya' already got a fearsome 'nough reputation. Don't need a bigger bounty." The blond took a long drink of coffee, grinning around the cup. His eyes shone brightly.

"'m gonna die someday. Might as well go big. I don't deserve no boring death." Zexion frowned.

"Think 'bout Axel." The blond narrowed his eyes at his friend and pursed his lips. His glare was icy. He hated and loved how intelligent his second in command was. Finally, he exhaled heavily, reigning in his emotions.

"Fine, Zexion." He saw some of the tension leak out of Zexion's shoulders, despite the coldness in his voice. He knew how much the man still cared about him. Despite how terrible he was.

"That kid's gonna be your savin' grace." Roxas softened a bit, staring into the murky depths of his drink. He thought about Axel's bright smile every time he saw him, about how he never wanted to see him hurt, and frowned. Then, he sighed softly. What would happen to Axel if somethin' happened to him…? Roxas hummed thoughtfully. He wouldn't be around to protect him forever, that was a guarantee. He supposed he'd have to teach him how to protect himself then. He laughed suddenly, muttering,

"He thinks he's gonna take care'a me one day."

"Would that be so terrible?" Roxas held Zexion's gaze for a long moment, finally scoffing. The man hummed softly, murmuring, "For you, maybe," he conceded. Roxas crossed his arms and turned his head, looking away.

"'ll believe it when I see it," he answered neutrally. There weren't many bigger or stronger than him. No one in his life had stayed with him for long either. He'd hoped to keep his mother with him. He'd buried her instead. This lot was the most semblance of a family he'd ever had. He was completely aware of how horrible he could be to the people that cared about him the most. Nice words were just words. In the end, they didn't necessarily hold true. Axel was free to do what he wanted, even if he wanted to leave him behind. Roxas knew that much. Axel was different than Zexion. If he broke his heart, there was a good chance he'd never see the kid again. He wouldn't blame him, either.

The door to his quarters opened and Roxas' gaze shifted at the familiar sound. Axel was standing ahead of Olette, holding the door open for her. Roxas was still frowning as he contemplated Zexion's question, gazing at the lovely red-head seriously, not so sure he ever wanted to break his heart. He didn't move, even as she nodded to Axel telling him goodbye, trailing off as her gaze met Roxas'. He watched her, relaxing his face. He nodded to her, noting that she seemed a bit more at ease around him when Axel was awake. Then she smiled at him. Archly, even. He quirked a brow back. She walked right past him without a word. Axel tugged the door shut and Roxas' attention returned to him. "Don't you ev'n think 'bout it," he scolded, "go an' rest."

"Leave 'im 'lone, Roxas." Olette called back to him. Axel laughed aloud at the expression on Roxas' face and settled down beside the man, seeming happy and relaxed. She had actually completely caught him by surprise.

"She wants me movin' some," he answered. "Said 'd do some good." Roxas snorted softly, looking into green eyes and smiling wryly. He was lost in Axel's intense gaze for a long moment before asking,

"What did ya' do t' her?" Axel shrugged, his green eyes glittering.

"Secret," he answered with a grin. Blue eyes narrowed at him, his smile widening. Axel told her some stories at least. Now she'd be thinking he wasn't as scary as he actually was. He'd put an end to that, soon enough. It was completely against his nature to pretend he was something he wasn't. Didn't have the energy for it. His thoughts trailed off when his little red-head kissed him. Axel really was so hard to resist. He gazed deeply into green eyes. Kid was going to get himself into a dangerous situation if he didn't settle down. Then he'd be in a terrible mood because Olette would ban him from so much as looking in Axel's direction, much less visiting.

"You must be feelin' better," he answered softly. The redhead leaned against him and he shifted his coffee so he could wrap an arm around him. Axel rested his head against Roxas' shoulder, nodding.

"Where were you?" he asked quietly. Roxas turned his head to press his lips into red hair.

"Went t' see Sora," he answered. "Did ya' miss me?" Axel shifted, gazing into blue eyes. Roxas softened a bit at his expression.

"'kay, tonight 'm yours," he promised, "if ya' settle down," he added warningly. The red-head laid back down obediently and blushed darkly. Finally, he nodded. His heart was racing.

"He alright?" he asked quietly. Roxas' lips quirked up.

"Worried?" He asked.

"Can't help it," Axel answered, knowing Roxas too well. The blond pulled him closer, promising,

"If he cooperates, he don't got nothin' to worry 'bout," he answered. Axel burrowed into him, tugging him close. Roxas caught Zexion's expression, and shot him a glare, wordlessly telling him to stop gloating. The man's lips quirked up. It didn't hurt his feelings at all that Roxas had met his match. Even if he didn't realize it yet. Then, he turned his attention to Demyx, gently waking him. He nodded to Roxas wordlessly and they said their goodbyes to Axel as he guided the kid back to give them some privacy. Roxas sighed softly, "They put ya' up t' this, darlin'?" Axel shook his head.

"Roxas I… I spent time with th' rangers. You start pickin' 'em off, they ain't gonna leave you alone," he answered anxiously. Roxas smiled wryly.

"That ain't my plan," he promised. "Trust me."

"'course I trust you but-" Roxas shushed him softly, pressing a finger against his lips before stroking them gently, watching pale cheeks redden. He slid his fingers under Axel's chin, lifting it and kissing him gently in return. Green eyes lidded and Roxas gazed into them seriously.

"I ain't gonna lose you," he told him. "Whatever I gotta face t' keep ya' safe, 'm gonna."

"But Roxas-"

Roxas shushed him again, digging his fingers into crimson hair and tugging gently. Axel whimpered quietly in pleasure as lips brushed his ear. "It ain't a debate, darlin'," Roxas purred. Then, his mouth descended to pale skin, teasing gently and hungry for more. He indulged in the red-head, stopping himself when he felt his control slipping away, reluctantly releasing his hold on Axel and gently stroking red hair. He gazed into green eyes weakly. Kid wanted him just as much.

"You can't protect me from everythin'," Axel protested. Still, he was doing a good job of keeping his wits about him. Roxas smiled wryly and kissed him deeply, until the kid felt the will to fight leaving him.

"They almost got you. R'member?" He chided softly. "You gonna hole up here for th' rest'a yer life?" Axel frowned at the thought and Roxas nodded, murmuring, "See?" The red-head gazed at him determinedly.

"I ain't afraid," he answered. Green eyes gentled. He was beginning to understand. Roxas was. He'd missed it at first, but this beautiful, strong man was worried about losing him. "Trust me." Blue eyes slid shut and the man sighed softly.

"I do," he answered quietly. Axel gently tugged the coffee out of his hand and settled back down against Roxas, getting comfortable. He sipped at it, watching the sunrise with the man he loved. So much had happened that it felt like forever since they'd done this. Roxas held him. He could see storm clouds gathering. It really was gorgeous as they met the rising sun. He loved rainstorms. The prospect of rain and the cooler air it would bring was exciting enough. There was something about a good storm that really made him feel alive and was so soothing at the same time. The ground shook as thunder rolled.

"I came this way chasin' a storm," he murmured finally. Roxas hummed softly.

"Brought ya' to me, huh?" Axel sipped at the coffee, nodding in affirmation.

"Like fate."

They watched lightening dance across the sky. "I would'a found ya' eventually," he purred softly to the red-head. "You were always gonna be mine." Axel smiled up at him wryly. Honestly, he didn't doubt it.

There was a final rumble of thunder and then rain came suddenly. Lightening flashed across the sky and then with a whoosh, there was a downpour. Axel smiled blissfully still gazing into Roxas' eyes and seeking shelter under the brim of the man's hat, bringing their faces dangerously close. He stretched out his uninjured arm to brush blond hair out of the man's face. Finally, Roxas tipped his head forward with a smile of his own, brushing their noses and then their lips. He let the kid enjoy it until they were both dangerously wet. It was cleansing, in a way and so intense. Even their fire was sputtering out.

"'lette might kill me if I let ya' get sick. Head in." Roxas murmured against his lips, his voice almost lost to the heavy rain. Axel actually pouted at him but he knew it was true and that there was no 'might' about it. Olette would come down on Roxas hard. "'ll carry ya'," he threatened. The red-head's green eyes sparkled mischievously as if daring him to. Roxas' expression was overtaken with amusement. Before the kid could argue, he was lifting him in his arms. Axel gasped in surprise, dropping the cup as they came nose to nose. Roxas shushed him, kissing him deeply before carrying him inside. The air was warmer, but Axel still shivered, chilled from his wet clothes. The man kissed him again, deeper this time. The air between them felt heated. Charged, even. Axel gasped breathlessly, getting lost in a rush of pleasure. The storm raged outside. Lanky fingers were trembling as they found blond hair. Roxas' hat tumbled to the floor as Axel clung to him desperately. He took him to the bed, undressing him, only breaking the kiss to tug off wet clothes.

Axel blinked in surprise when a warm blanket wrapped around him and the man started drying him off, still dripping wet, himself. The blond's clothes were clinging to him. He swallowed harshly, letting Roxas guide him down, helping him out of the rest of his clothes until he was naked, only wrapped in a warm blanket. He held it around himself, blushing and watching Roxas do the same. His heart was pounding as he gazed at the man's body. Roxas simply gave him a knowing look when he sneezed. He tugged open the blanket, tangling their bodies together and warming him up. Axel's face was steadily darkening. Roxas' body, the feeling of it pressing against his, the warmth radiating into him, felt incredible. He wanted it, so much. Green eyes fluttered. Roxas pressed him down, touching his lips to Axel's wound and murmured, "Not yet, darlin'."

"When?" Axel protested. Roxas hissed softly, kissing his neck gently, biting teasingly. The red-head whimpered in pleasure, rolling his body into the strong one pressed against his, surrendering to the touches.

"Olette 'll take you 'way from me," Roxas warned huskily.

"I don't care," Axel all but moaned back. Roxas took his mouth in a heady kiss, tangling their tongues together. He pulled back, biting the kid's lower lip and staring into green eyes seriously. He sighed, brushing their noses, kissing him gently.

"I hate waitin' for what I want," he purred softly, taking Axel's lips sensually. The red-head moaned at the intensity of it. He was shuddering as Roxas pressed against him. He could feel their bodies responding to one another. "I want you, beautiful," he whispered in Axel's ear. "When yer ready, best be belivin' I ain't holdin' back."

Axel settled against him, pressing his lips together, closing his eyes and breathing. He knew why Roxas was saying this but the rejection still made him feel awful. Still, he respected the man for thinking of him like this. He took a breath, trying to settle down his racing heart.

"Where's yours?" he asked finally. Roxas hummed softly.

"Scar," he answered. Warm fingers twined with his before guiding them along his body, settling at his left hip. Axel looked into ocean blue eyes, feeling the rougher skin. He gasped softly when Roxas raised his hand, settling on different areas of his torso. "How'd you…" Roxas smiled a bit.

"Thought you learn'd all 'bout me," he teased. Axel blushed. Roxas hummed softly raising their twined fingers to his lips so he could gently kiss Axel's fingers. "Seen m' share'a gun fights," he mused. "Zexion hated it," he sighed, laying down on his back. He gazed at the ceiling for a long moment before staring into green eyes. He couldn't quite tell what Axel thought about it. "That scare you?" The kid thought about it, frowning.

"When I got hit, it happened so fast…" The blond nodded a bit.

"I ain't slowin' down, an' playin' it safe," he answered, realizing for a moment how selfish he'd been, even thinking about asking Axel to consider doing the same. But all the same, he…

"I know. It ain't who you are." Roxas froze, staring at the red-head. His heart pounded. He could see that Axel was unhappy about it. But he wasn't going to try to hold him back. He almost felt guilty asking,

"Axel… would ya' consider workin' in here?" Confusion swept across the kid's face. Axel tried to read Roxas. He looked worried mostly. He considered what might be upsetting him.

"'m gonna live my life too," he answered carefully.

"'course," Roxas answered. "Seems like a good fit. A better fit, that's all," he answered honestly, knowing the kid would trust him more if he told him a truth. "Your mind's the most important asset ya' got." The kid nodded slowly.

"I trust you." The blond smiled a bit, feeling relieved.

"Good, Axel." The red-head held him for a long while, finally asking,

"Did you love him?" Roxas hummed softly but before Axel could elaborate, he answered.

"No." He raised a hand, gently stroking red hair, relaxing the young man in his arms. Roxas tugged affectionately. "I don't get like this for no one 'cept you." Axel laughed softly, sighing in exasperation.

"How d' you expect me t' keep resistin' you," he muttered, gazing up at him longingly. Roxas got lost in that intense stare, letting Axel get closer until the kid was touching their lips together. Sighing softly, Roxas murmured honestly,

"'m not sure." Axel laughed a little, tugging Roxas to him and kissing him again. The man he adored pressed him down, devouring his mouth agonizingly pleasurably. Axel was surrendering to him, tilting his head and allowing him to touch him however he wanted to, groaning his name until Roxas covered his lips with his own. Axel caught strong hips with his legs, grinding against the blond pleasurably, their moans blurring together. Roxas hissed and bore down against him, holding him still, exploring his mouth until he was breathless. Axel couldn't breathe, couldn't move. Every little movement of Roxas' body sent jolts of pleasure through him. Finally he cupped Axel's face, chiding, "Kid..."

"Do ya' know how scared I was," the red-head whispered quietly, catching Roxas by surprise, "seein' th' look on your face when I got hurt?" Green eyes shimmered. "Thought I was gonna die," he murmured truthfully with a small laugh. Then he became painfully serious. "That's how scared ya' were. I know, Roxas." Axel hadn't thought Roxas could feel terror before that. "but 'm alright," he promised. The blond sighed in exasperation, wordlessly pressing their lips together until his little red-head was melting under him.

"I know darlin'," he answered. "We got all th' time in th' world," he promised, kissing him with every word, "b'have, I ain't havin' you yet." Before Axel could protest, Roxas kissed him again, taking his lips deeply, shushing him softly. He reached back, resting a hand on Axel's upper thigh and squeezing. Reluctantly, the red-head released him. Roxas rewarded him, shifting to stroke him intimately with his hand. He smiled wryly, watching pleasure play across his little love's face. He knew Axel's body well by now. "Don't move," he purred softly, pressing his lips to Axel's neck and nipping gently.

"Yes, Roxas," he moaned in consent. Green eyes fluttered as Roxas' body wound around him, stilling him as that hand stroked agonizingly. Axel was whimpering, trembling in his arms and meeting his lips in heated kisses. Until, shuddering in ecstasy, he came. He was breathing hard, purring Roxas' name huskily. The blond hummed in approval, kissing him one more time. Axel was smiling blissfully, succumbing to exhaustion and to Roxas' command to settle down, to rest. He let his eyes slide shut, his body feeling light but heavy. He felt safe and protected in Roxas' arms.

The man watched over him, exerting restraint and patience. He sighed softly. Served him right for gloating to Zexion on their way to Radiant Garden, too. He pressed his body into Axel's, just breathing and holding him close, thankful that he'd been so lucky. He pressed his lips to the exit wound on the kid's left shoulder, promising himself to slow down enough. Zexion was right, as much as he hated to admit it. So, for every day they were together, he owed Axel enough to think of him first.

~O~

Olette faithfully tended to Hayner for weeks. Just as she would every day. For as long as it took. She didn't care who tried to stand in her way. Even if it was someone as infamous as Roxas Strife. Or his band of outlaws. Larxene in particular liked to get in her way. She detested her the most. Olette had never hated someone so much in her entire life.

She hadn't known exactly who they had been dealing with until she'd seen the wanted posters in Roxas' quarters. She had hoped it wasn't as bad of a situation as it could be. Turned out, things were most likely hopeless. Axel was undoubtedly in love with the man. If they way he talked about him was any indication. He was a good kid, she hoped it wouldn't be his undoing.

She busied herself, gathering fresh water for the medic tent and cleaning up. Olette was halfway through hanging linens to dry when a shadow loomed over her. She didn't care if Roxas appreciated her efforts or not; she merely didn't want to run out of supplies. Limited as they were. She paused, glaring at increasingly familiar boots before looking up fearlessly. It wouldn't do any good to show any of these animals the slightest inclination of fear. Being the oldest in their group, she had taken it upon herself to set a good example of how to deal with these beasts. Her eyes narrowed as she gazed upon an equally increasingly familiar face. She pursed her lips at the blonde. Larxene. The crazy woman that loved to torment her.

"Ain't he dead yet," she complained, yawning exaggeratedly. The girl's eyes flashed in annoyance.

"You were doin' such a good job'a makin' yourself scarce," Olette sighed. "Why'd ya' have to ruin it?" The blonde didn't bat an eye but she knew Larxene had been banned from her post. She'd caught Roxas gazing at the woman sternly and tilting his head now and then, making her back off. She knew that he had something to do with it. She just didn't know why. It wasn't like he valued her for more than what she could do. But still… it was unlike him. From what she knew, Roxas Strife wasn't one to interfere in someone else's business. Unless it was for Axel, maybe. She doubted that Roxas could be grateful. She was just a tool to be used. Nothing more, nothing less. Everybody in this camp was.

"Did I hit a nerve, doll?" Olette gave her a saccharine smile.

"I bet yer dyin', not knowin' nothin," she sighed. Then, seeing Larxene fuming, she widened her eyes and pretended to gasp. "Oh! Did I?" she mocked. "Looks like a real sore spot, doc." The blonde was frowning dangerously, "Better get it checked."

"Roxas ain't gonna protect ya' forever," she answered patronizingly. "'spcially not a cripple." Olette smiled at the woman broadly.

"That's alright," she chirruped, "I will!" Larxene poised herself to argue and Olette steeled herself.

"Larxene." The blonde woman was stunned to silence by the voice. Warily, the girl glanced past her to a short man with slate colored hair. He'd been keeping an eye on her. Probably Roxas makin' sure she wasn't up to no good. She shrugged them off and resumed her task. Larxene glared at the man poisonously.

"Somethin' wrong Zexion?" she asked spitefully, "Bored'a Demyx already?" Olette frowned a bit but the man was unafflicted and stoic. He answered,

"You know Roxas don't like that. Back off." Larxene scoffed darkly and stormed away. She hated that Roxas had decided to get himself involved. Things were better when he stayed out of matters like this. Olette ignored him. Zexion stayed, watching over her.

"Don't expect me t' be grateful." He ignored her. When the basket was empty and all the linens were hanging to dry, she turned to him, gazing at him sternly. "What? Roxas want somethin'?" When he shook his head, she rolled her eyes. "Why're you here then?"

"T' make sure they don't bother ya'," he answered. Olette crossed her arms.

"Well, you been doin' a terrible job." He met her gaze.

"Apologies," he murmured back. She frowned at him and turned away, gathering up her things. "Just a thought but," The girl paused, listening with her back to him. "You an' yer friends might wanna watch 'im close." Real fear went through her, like an icy sheet.

"Tryin' t' scare me?" she asked neutrally, but Zexion could see it, no matter how hard she tried to hide it. She was terrified. "She wouldn't disobey Roxas," she said finally, telling herself that he was trying to play games with her, too.

"She ain't the only one you gotta worry 'bout," he warned as she disappeared.

When she was alone, she exhaled sharply. The rush of emotions made her stagger. She had barely recovered her balance when Kairi and Namine found her.

"Olette, come and see!" Her brows furrowed as they took her by the wrist and rushed her forward. This time she did collapse. Right into Hayner's arms. He was disorientated but he was awake. Tears of relief and happiness streamed down her face. Even if Larxene was right, even if he would never walk again, they would get through this together. Right now, he wasn't aware of his surroundings. He was confused and weak. But by the grace of God, he was holding her and he was having a period of wakefulness.

"Hey Hay, 's gonna be alright," she promised softly. A wave of exhaustion overcame her. She'd been holding herself together for too long. She couldn't do it anymore. Much less move. So she cried until she couldn't anymore, not waking again until it was well into the next morning.

~O~

Larxene had been watching. Olette got up with the sun. Not today. She didn't leave 'til late afternoon. And there was something different about the way she was carrying herself. She didn't like it. Most likely, that meant the worst possible thing had happened. He'd woken up.

Roxas only said to behave 'til he died. Well then.

She waited, slinking into the medic tent, unnoticed. She scowled at Hayner, took a pillow, covered his face and smothered him, feeling a rush as he woke and weakly fought back. When he stilled, she covered his face for longer than necessary and went on her way. Really, she was doing him a favor. Even if he didn't deserve it.

She smirked, now all that was left to do was wait for the girl's inevitable break down. She ducked back into camp, picking up her trail. She was expecting Roxas to be cross with her, but scoffed in disgust.

Blue eyes were glittering in wry amusement when Olettte finally showed up half past noon. "You? Late?" He drawled teasingly, unable to help himself. Larxene rolled her eyes, unable to bring herself to watch. Roxas met her gaze and her eyes widened. He narrowed his eyes, watching her turn on her heel and escape his scrutiny. Then he glanced at Olette again. Her face was red and she was actually too flustered to answer. It was good news, he hoped. Probably why Larxene was pissed, too. His lips quirked up into a grin. She certainly looked better, anyway. He tilted his head. "Go on in." Olette followed the suggestion hastily, ducking past him to tend to Axel.

"R-Roxas seems pleased," she mumbled, trying to get herself organized.

Mischief flickered across emerald green eyes. "Clear me an' y'll really see 'im happy," Axel promised, teasing her too. He didn't realize how much it would fluster her. He was actually surprised. It wasn't like her to lose her head or comment on Roxas' mood. Or to come at this time of day. Olette laughed anxiously, checking him over and chatting with him for a bit to calm herself. It was only when she unwrapped his wound that she realized she'd forgotten her supplies. Her face reddened all over again. It wasn't like her to lose her head like this! She improvised, fumbling for items she'd left for Roxas as discreetly as possible.

"Lookin' good, you don't gotta cover it anymore." Axel grinned, but tilted his head curiously at how flustered she was.

"You alright?" She nodded.

"'course I am. Someone's gotta be 'round here." He gazed at her seriously.

"When's Hayner gonna come 'round? Dunno how he can stand not bein' 'round you." A satisfied little smile came across her face before she could stop herself and Axel gasped.

"He did?!" She let the words settle over her and nodded. It felt so good to hear someone say it. She blinked back tears.

"'m waitin' for 'im to get a bit better, first." She bent close, smiling brightly, "So don't you tell nobody!" Then she winked at him, tapping her chin thoughtfully, finally feeling at ease and saying, "I don't see why ya' can't," she answered, "long as ya' feel alright." Axel tipped his head.

"Can't?"

"Please 'im." Axel blushed and she laughed aloud. "'s been two weeks, you should be past danger of infection," she murmured with a shrug. Then she grinned. "'ll tell 'im if ya' want."

"That ain't what I meant!" Olette smiled archly.

"Oh? 'm I wrong?" She chided with a faux innocence, smiling sweetly. Axel laughed breathlessly.

"He just wants me better," he gasped. Then he smiled, glancing at her sidelong. "You gotta promise me somethin'," he told her finally, wiping tears from his eyes. She crossed her arms and tipped her head, waiting. "Come back, see me now an' then." Olette smiled slowly.

"Sure, sounds nice, Axel. You can come see me too, ya' know." The red-head smiled. She was about to get a whole lot busier, helping Hayner recuperate.

"Yeah, 'll do that," he promised. "Thank you." They chatted, losing track of time and getting lost in conversation until the door tugged open. Roxas came in, nimbly reaching for his hat. He put it on and paused to cast a glance at Axel.

"'m headin' t' see Sora, be back in a bit." Roxas was smiling wryly and cracked his knuckles in anticipation. Olette gazed at him intently. He could feel the intensity of her gaze and stared right back. He arched a brow at her. Oh? She was becoming more bold, each time he saw her. Not just anyone stared him down like that.

"Roxas, hold on," she interrupted. He quirked a brow at her then nodded. Wordlessly, he obliged.

"This' my last check-up. He's gonna be fine." The blond folded his arms with a touch of a smile, nodding. The look in his eyes told her smugly, told ya' didn't I? They flashed in surprised at what she said next. "No restrictions," she teased with a hint of an amused laugh. He froze for a moment, his smile widening and becoming wry. It was nice to see her like this. His blue eyes landed on Axel.

"Seems ya' made another friend," he murmured softly. He should have known that Axel would be the one to get to Olette. Roxas gazed at the young doctor seriously and inclined his head toward the door to talk to her privately. She actually agreed to follow without complaint. The blond smiled a bit and purred, "'suse us, darlin'." Axel smiled and nodded.

They went into the cooling evening air. The sun was fading to red. It would be dark soon. Olette suppressed a shudder. Being alone with this dangerous man still made her feel anxious, but she wasn't about to let him see her be afraid of him. Whatever the stories she heard about him, the good or the bad, she knew Roxas wasn't one to be trifled with. She preferred having Axel with them. Roxas was always softer around him. It was a relief that he was recovering so well. She never wanted to be on Roxas' bad side. She gazed at him warily. She wasn't sure if Roxas was starting to like her or not. The man smiled wryly, as if he knew exactly what she was thinking, making her stiffen involuntarily. He lent against the door, crossing his arms before murmuring,

"Thank you." She blinked at him, completely astounded. She never would have expected him to be grateful to her.

"'course, Roxas." He hummed softly.

"Thought about that reward yet?" The brunette steeled herself and Roxas couldn't help but smile warmly, knowing by now that she was going to do something unexpected. He had to admit, she was interesting to be around. He liked that. Axel seemed to like her, too.

"Roxas, 'bout that…" The blond hummed in affirmation. "I want a favor instead," she told the man. Roxas tipped his head at her in interest. Bold and clever, this one. Lucky girl, he was feeling generous.

"What'cha want?" He hummed back. She shook her head.

"Don't need it yet. 'm savin' it." Cerulean eyes sparkled.

"'kay," he agreed. Olette actually smiled.

"You ain't gonna object?" Roxas shrugged his shoulders.

"I told ya' Axel's worth." The brunette actually softened, her smile warming.

"He's lucky t' have you." Roxas' lips curled up into a wry smile.

"Sure is," he agreed. The girl rolled her eyes playfully.

"You ain't got no modesty." Roxas laughed softly, amused.

"I ain't a virtuous man," he agreed. He eyed her for a moment, his tone taking a cautious note. "How's yours?" Olette smiled at the mention of Hayner.

"I ain't givin' up," she told him neutrally. Roxas shrugged.

"I ain't tellin' ya' what t' do," he answered, "'m askin' how 'e is." Olette smiled softly.

"I'd wager you were wrong." She answered. The blond smiled in approval.

"Hope so," he admitted. Olette gasped softly when he stepped closer, resting a hand on her left shoulder. Roxas gazed into her eyes seriously. "You need somethin', you find me." The brunette nodded determinedly. The hand resting on her shoulder squeezed reassuringly before he let her go.

When she looked up at him, she was smiling warmly. "Come by in the mornin'. Meet 'im." The corner of Roxas' mouth lifted. He hadn't expected her to confirm his suspicions yet.

"That so?" Laughing joyfully, she nodded.

"Ya' must like me a little," he told her with a wink. Olette put her hands on her hips, smiling playfully.

"Maybe a little," she answered. Roxas' smile widened as she turned away watching as she faithfully went back to the medic tent.

He hummed thoughtfully, deciding to forgo seeing Sora. Instead, he went back inside to see Axel. His red-head looked at him in surprise. Roxas didn't often change his mind. Green eyes were silently asking if everything was alright. The man smiled at him, closing the door and settling next to him. He hummed in affirmation. He gazed at the kid, gently brushing back soft red hair. He thought about Hayner, now hard Olette had been working, meeting his demands and caring for the both of them. He was staring at Axel so intently that the kid was becoming flustered.

"Roxas?" The man blinked at the sound of his name and let Axel go.

"I wanna be with you 'nstead," he said finally. Green eyes gentled.

"Me too," he answered. Roxas smiled at the kid endearingly. He twined their fingers together and inclined his head. Axel followed him down into camp. He was startled by a gasp of excitement.

"Axel! Sit here! Eat with us!" The red-head glanced at Roxas before smiling at Demyx. His smile widened when Roxas indulged them and settled between them. He was about to thank him when Roxas' hand rested on his leg, trailing to his inner thigh and squeezing, just like he had the first time he'd kissed him. He bit back a gasp, understanding vividly. Still, Roxas purred in his ear,

"I can wait." Axel's face flushed. He turned back to the man, mischief in his green eyes. Roxas gave him a satisfied, inviting smile.

They were all startled into silence when screams and cries of despair and agony filled the camp. Some of the outlaws that were gathered around the fire looked shaken. Others were drawn to suffering. Axel stared up at Roxas with wide eyes. They both knew. Olette… something was wrong with Hayner. Most of them had been expecting him to die, but Vanitas was dumbfounded when Larxene's lips curved up and she eyed him smugly. He immediately realized she'd sat next to him on purpose, waiting for this.

"Seems I won our wager." Golden eyes widened in amazement and he laughed breathlessly, whispering,

"You didn't." The blonde exaggeratedly pretended the noise was hurting her ears. Even she hadn't expected Olette to be so vocal. She smirked and pressed a finger to her lips, continuing to watch smugly. Even as Roxas rushed past. Lazily, she answered,

"'ll be collectin' in the mornin'." Vanitas watched her wryly. She was bolder than he'd given her credit for. Bold enough to go against Roxas by the looks of it. Their boss was not happy. He held his hands up, surrendering.

"'kay. I admit it. Yer worse than me," he answered, raising his eyebrows and smiling. He liked how sadistic she was and hoped Roxas would go easy on her. She'd always been smart enough to not technically disobey him. There was a hint of admiration in his gaze. "She's all yours. Hope she come's 'round." Larxene snorted and rolled her eyes.

"I don' care 'bout none'a that." She answered a bit too triumphantly. Vanitas' smile was arch. He knew she was more interested in playing with the girl.

"Hopefully she don't get crazier than you." Larxene laughed, scoffed and rolled her eyes.

"As if!" But by the sounds'a it, she was good and broken at least. Now all she had to do was wait, maybe pick up a few pieces. That was all it would take. She'd be good and fragile after this. Larxene couldn't wait. She sat back, watching everything unfold.

Roxas walked into chaos. Something he normally felt at home in but he had to admit, he hadn't wanted this for Olette. Not her. Kari and Namine were so startled to see him, he thought they might faint.

"He was getting better, he- h-he woke up again!" Olette was hysterical. She stiffened and swiveled around when her companions' demeanor changed. She was just as startled to see Roxas. His mouth was in a thin, angry line. Larxene, he thought. Olette visibly flinched when he approached her. He placed a hand on each of her trembling shoulders and looked her in the eye. She was a complete mess. She was shaking, afraid he was furious with her, up until he spoke.

"Ya' did good. Proved me wrong," he told her levelly, keeping himself as calm as possible. Once, he would have been a lot more ruthless. He'd learned a thing or two about reigning in his emotions since then. Even when he was seething. "Now ya' gotta stop this." Her large green eyes blinked and she belatedly understood what he meant and why he was here, why his gaze was so serious. She was making a target out of herself. Roxas sighed, tugging her close, wrapping a strong arm around her. "You stay close t' me," he warned. She was too terrified to move.

"Wh-what?" she asked weakly. Roxas sighed. He pulled back, his eyes intense and very serious.

"'s the least I can do," He answered neutrally. He squeezed her shoulder reassuringly. Then he was walking away. He paused before slipping outside and looked back. "Do what you got to t'night. 'm comin' back at dawn." Then he was gone.

Olette collapsed to the ground, burying her face into her hands, crying as bitterly and as quietly as she could.
