Chapter 42

Satan shifted, crossing his leg over his knee, he knew she was purposely trying to gloss over the fact that it was after they reconnected that thing changed between them. They went from a business transaction of demon and human pact makers to that of friends and from there it blossomed into so much more.

He understood why she did it, yet it still put a foul taste in his mouth. He wanted those in the room to know just how deep their bond went, how intimate they knew each other...yet he knew now was not the time to brag.

He was not Lucifer, his pride could handle the slight, it would only add fuel to his wrath...

Kagome had a slight frown on her face, she could tell that Satan was lost in his angsty thoughts, and normally she would jump on him and poke him and smother him with love and affection until she was able to pull him from his 'emo mood' but she knew she could not and probably would never be able to do that again and it made her heart ache.

Instead of focusing on it she decided to continue her tale, as it was almost over and she at least wanted to bathe before passing out on her bed. She had no idea what time it was, seeing as it was always dark in the Devildom, but she knew it had to be late as her eyes were burning and she was hard pressed to hold back her yawns.

"It was about a month before the younger me would throw everything away to return to the past that I told Satan that I would be leaving the home we shared for years. That I wanted to return to my family. They had selflessly supported and loved me through everything and that I wanted to be there for them until the...end." Her voice waived at the thought of the end...of their deaths...it was so odd to speak of it like just another chapter in her never-ending tale.

It made her stomach churn yet she pushed it down because as much as she hated it, it was true. They would die and she would be left behind and have to just move on, they would be just another part of her fairytale...another chapter in her book...

It was the reason she and Solomon had never had kids, their underlying fear that any children they would have would not inherit their immortality and that they would have to watch them age and die...it was too much for either of them to bear. It had been a very hard choice to make but they had made it together and were still happy together despite the choice they had made.

Clearing her throat she shifted, pulling the blanket closer around herself, as if to insulate her away from the morbid thoughts and feelings. "I returned home and of course there were tears and words to be said but they welcomed me back with open arms. It'd only been a few weeks for them but for me it had been lifetimes...so many...I decided to try to pretend to act like the Kagome they knew and planned to slowly show them the new Kagome as time went on...maybe even teaching Souta how to use magics and such but not even a week into it I was summoned here." She gave a light laugh, there was no bitterness or joy behind it, just pure humor. "My life has never gone according to plan so why would it now? I'm just rolling with it now, winging it so to speak."

She paused, shaking her head before sitting up fully, placing her feet on the ground, lowering the blanket from around her as she smiled a serene heartfelt smile that made all of them shiver as something inside of them reacted to it on pure instinct.

"So that's my story, it's never gone according to plan and it has many twists and turns and even I don't know what's going to happen next but...that's what makes me, me and if you can accept that, accept me with all my flaws and shortcomings then I would be honored to stay here and see where my story goes from here."

None of the males in the room were ignorant to the sheen of wet in her eyes nor the way her body trembled in fear of rejection despite her brave face.
