Chapter 1 of 2 for today!

Tuesday, June 30, 1998

Tuesday evening Hermione had her first doctor's appointment with the Muggle doctor. Mia and Drake Malcolm used their Magically forged documents while Hermione's "half brother", Thaddeus Nod, was there for moral support.

Hermione sat on the metal table and swung her legs back and forth while they waited for the doctor. Draco was hovering next to her and Theo was sprawled on one of the chairs on the other side of the room. When the young, handsome doctor came into the room, both men stiffened and Hermione bit back a chuckle at their response.

"Good afternoon, my name is Doctor Lee, it's a pleasure to meet you. You just be Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm?"

"Please, Mia and Drake," Hermione said with a smile. There was very little occasion to make her men jealous. "This is my brother Thad. We're all quite excited, it's the first child in our family and our parents are all gone, so Thad asked to come along with us."

"Sorry for your losses," Doctor Lee said, "new babies are always a reason for celebration! Shall we get started?"

"You're new patients with us, aren't you? I see you submitted your family's medical histories with us." He flipped through the chart for a few moments."Mr. Malcolm, your parents had some trouble with conception?"

"Yes, they could only have me although they tried for others, my mother was devastated," Draco said quietly.

Hermione squeezed his hand and smiled softly. "I'm an only child as well, but my parents never tried for another. Thad and I didn't know about each other until we met at school."

"We'll keep an eye out because of Drake's familial history, but let's get onto the exam." He took her blood pressure and pulled some blood for blood work, and had her take a urine test. "We'll run the blood for Down's, Edwards' and Patau's syndromes."

Then he had her place her feet in the stirrups and began the Pap smear and ultrasound. Draco and Theo were horrified by the whole procedure, which of course made both Hermione and Dr. Lee laugh. "Drake," she chuckled, "how did you think they'd check on my health? Magic?"

He sputtered for a few moments then flushed. "I thought we'd see him in the ultra-thing…"

"Yes well, the ultrasound has to be trans-vaginal this early on, chap. Do you want your brother to leave for this?" Dr. Lee asked kindly.

"N-no," Hermione stuttered, "Can we put up a curtain so he can't see me and carry on?"

"Absolutely," he said, not even batting an eye. "So," the doctor continued, as he lubricated the wand, "at 10 weeks, Baby has started to develop ear canals so you can definitely start talking to them. They have a little upper lip and two tiny nostrils in the nose. Their jawbone is developing and all of the milk teeth are already present!"

He inserted the wand and after a few moments, the three of them heard Scorpius' heartbeat for the first time. "There is Baby's heartbeat," Doctor Lee said, "going about 180 beats a minute, 2 to 3 times faster than ours."

The three of them watched the ultrasound as Scorpius moved around in small, jerky movements. Hermione found her face wet with tears as she watched Scorpius wiggle around and listen to his little heart beat. "He's really in there," Draco said, awed. "I can't believe we're so lucky." Hermione looked over at Theo who had tears running down his face.
