Monday found them settling into their typical routine Hermione was shocked to find that she'd passed her four month mark of pregnancy already. Her husbands were quite fond of her increasingly large baby bump. She was hoping that they'd be able to feel Scorpius kick in the next few weeks, something both Draco and Theo were constantly trying to encourage him to do.
Heremione was preparing them to attend their 16 week ultrasound, leaving right after Draco returned from Hogwarts that evening. She knew that both men were excited to see Scorpius' most recent ultrasound, both practically jumping out of their seats to get there earlier. After lunch, she had to send Theo out to play Quidditch with Ginny so that he would stop bothering her about the time.
When the time finally came to leave, they used the Floo to arrive at a surreptitious Floo in London and hailed a cab to get to the hospital. As they sat in the waiting room, Draco looked like he was about to bounce out of his seat. "Calm down," she said with a chuckle.
"I'm just so excited to see him!" he said, grinning at her. "You get to feel him fluttering around all the time, I just want to feel him too. Do you think he'll be strong enough soon for me to feel him?"
"I-" she started.
"It's just so amazing that despite everything we're going to have him here and there is nothing we can do to speed it along," he continued, not even letting her speak. "Gods, I can't wait to hold him in my arms," Then he leaned over and whispered "and I can't wait to see Theo holding him."
Hermione chuckled and rolled her eyes. "You're lucky I'm feeling well enough today, or I'd be a much bigger menace. I'm excited to see him as well."
When they were ushered into Dr. Lee's office they settled in, Hermione answering the standard questions.
"So," Dr. Lee started as he set up the ultrasound, "The sixteenth week is the start of a 3-week growth spurt. The baby's weight will double in the next three weeks."
"That's amazing," Draco said, awed. "When will we be able to feel him?"
"Somewhere between now and week twenty, usually," Dr. Lee said with a chuckle. "At this point Baby can inhale and exhale amniotic fluid through the lungs, and both the circulatory system and urinary tract are fully functioning. Muscles are continuing to develop and grow stronger. In particular, the muscles in the back and around and spine have gained strength so Baby is now able to stretch and straighten more."
"I know," Hermione grimaced, "he's a menace in there."
"Are you all interested in finding out the gender?" Dr. Lee asked.
"Yes," all three of them said in tandem.
He grinned at them and then continued, "We know Baby can hear external sounds, such as music or other peoples' voices so it's a good idea to talk to Baby pretty frequently. "
"He does tend to move more when these two talk to him," Hermione said, smirking at the two men. "He also loves to listen to the Spice Girls with me." To which both men groaned.
By this point, Dr. Lee had the ultrasound all set up and prepared for action. "So Baby is covered in Lanugo, which is just hair that covers their whole body. It protects the skin and helps keep Baby warm. Sometimes you can see Baby's eyebrows and eyelashes as they're fully developed by week sixteen. Even the eyes, although behind the eyelids, can move around and perceive light."
"Alright," he continued, "there is Baby Malcolm."
Hermione gasped as Scorpius waved his arm back and forth inside of her. "He's amazing," she said, feeling tears pooling in her eyes.
"Looks like Mum and Dad are correct," Dr. Lee said, "we have a very healthy looking boy on our hands!"
The rest of the appointment flew by. When they left with their collection of prints, they made their way straight to Headquarters. "Gods," Harry said when he saw them standing in the doorway. "You'd think the three of you live here with the amount of time you spend."
Hermione rolled her eyes and stuck out her tongue at him. "Have you seen my Mother?" Draco asked, a bit stiffly.
"She's in the parlour with Andromeda and Teddy," Harry said with a shrug, following them into the room.
"Did you get the pictures?" Narcissa said, shrieking as she stood from her perch on the couch.
"Of course," Theo said, dramatically bowing and handing her the envelope.
Narcissa collapsed onto the couch and opened the envelope, squealing when she saw her grandson. "Oh he's so handsome!" she cooed, "We need to invent Wizarding Ultrasounds," she said turning to Theo. "You need to do that so we can have moving photos of them all in the womb."
Theo nodded thoughtfully, and Hermione could tell he was already making calculations in his head. He sunk to the couch, conjuring a piece of parchment and a pen, mumbling to himself as he wrote down his thoughts.
Andromeda brought Teddy over and handed him to Draco so that she could join her sister in looking at the photos they'd provided. When Draco began to make faces at his young cousin, Hermione was pleased to see his hair turn to a jolly yellow shade. He'd not mastered copying appearances yet, but you could always tell how he was feeling from the colour of his hair.
