Breakfast that morning was awkward to say the least. Hermione picked at her food, but with a push from Draco began to eat normally. Her parents barely said a word after greeting them, but Draco was undeterred.
"I've started my Higher Education, Doctor and Doctor Granger, I'm working on my Potions Mastery. Hermione gave me a chemistry textbook a few years ago and I've been working on my own textbook that combines the two."
Richard tried not to look intrigued by the idea, but Draco saw it so he continued speaking. "It's been fascinating really, most of the compounds are the same as in traditional Chemistry, but I've discovered a few new ones as well. Once the war is over I'd like to start integrating more Muggle Curriculum into the Magical one."
"About time," Jean grumbled.
Theo walked in just then, "We've also discussed creating a Wizarding Studies and Traditions Curriculum for all students so that we can make sure that the little Hermione Grangers of the world don't feel so behind." He leaned down and dropped a kiss to the crown of her head.
Draco continued, "I know that my Aunt Andromeda was hoping to pick your brains about some healing techniques that can be integrated into her work."
"Well I don't think her kind would much like to have us around," Jean sneered, "you may have changed but I doubt your family has."
Hermione let out a giggle, then tried to cover her mouth and stop when all the eyes swivelled toward her. She continued to let out stream after stream of giggles. Her parents' incredulous expressions and Draco and Theo's attempt at keeping a straight face caused her to laugh even harder. After a moment, Theo and Draco were chuckling, at her incessant giggling.
"I'm sorry I laughed, Mum," she said when she finally calmed down, "Andromeda, like Sirius, was blown off the Family Tree. Andromeda married a Muggleborn, like me, and had a child, named Nymphadora Tonks. Tonks then married a Werewolf, my old professor, Remus. So no, Draco's family are not all Blood Purists."
"Well-" Jean started.
"You can be as upset with me as you want, Mum," she said softly, "but please don't take it out on the others. They just wanted to help me protect you when I couldn't do it myself."
Jean deflated a bit at that and soon excused herself. Richard watched her go with a curious expression. "I think she's quite disappointed about not being at your wedding. I know I'm upset to not have given you away. It's going to take her time, Hermione."
Hermione just nodded, dejectedly. Soon after Richard drifted away to follow his wife to wherever she was, Hermione was betting on the library.
"Gods it was awful," Hermione sobbed, head leaning on Narcissa's lap. "They think I'm some type of whore and they're so angry."
"Well, dear," Narcissa said kindly, "you erased their memories without their consent and sent them across the world. You need to give them some time to come to terms with the situation. You'll have to explain why you did what you did."
"I doubt they'll even hear me out!" She continued to sob, "Mum is so cold and Dad is so aggressive."
"I know you have an appointment with the Magical Healer next week," Narcissa said, thoughtfully, "bring your parents around Headquarters and we'll get them in shape for the appointment." Hermione nodded tearfully and just continued to lay there waiting for her tears to dry.
