Peter was in the library with Liz continuing to study. It was four days since Peter had faced off against Scorpion.

Peter could tell Liz was getting increasingly tense ever since he shared his advice about her brother. From looking at Liz, it didn't look like she could protect herself from danger.

"I think I'm finally getting this," Liz said happily.

"That's great!" Peter replied, confidently.

"Thank you so much. My grades are totally going to stay up!" permission

Liz's smile was effective. Peter's feelings for her had come once more to the surface. It was harder holding back his flirty remarks then fighting Scorpion. Peter kept reminding himself that he shouldn't be forceful. They had a good thing going, and then though it was not very easy, Peter desperately wanted to keep this feeling on a tight lease.

"You're going to blind me with that smile." Peter let slip.

She laughed. "You don't have a bad smile either." She replied.

Peter wasn't sure if this was flirting, so he remained cautious with what he followed up with next.

"I'm happy that I could have, um, help you."

"Why are you acting more awkward then usually?"

"No reason."

"I said something, didn't I?"

"No, not at all. I'm just awkward on and off. Must be on now."

"Do you want to hang out sometime, outside of school. Your a good friend and I'd like to make our friendship stronger. Do you want the same?"

"Yeah, I'd love that."

"Okay, I'll call you later. You know we've been working together for the past few weeks, and I don't know much about you. Same with me, all I talk about is my brother, enough of that. My favourite clour is, I don't even know the name of it. Pink, but not pink. Do you know the name?"

"No, not at all."

"Well, what is yours?"

"Red and blue. I mean, yellow. Mainly yellow. Red and blue are okay, nothing special."

She laughed at Peter's awkwardness and continued talking, not thinking hard about his response.

"Movies? Tv?"

"I meanly read books or stuff online. Not really into watching things."

"How about music."

"I don't like it, AC DC is one of the only ones I know only cause my aunt's a fan."

"Really? From what you've said about your aunt, that's pretty surprising."

"Yeah, I know." Peter chuckled.

"We don't seem to have the same interests. That sucks."

"You don't know that. I'm sure we like some of the same things. How about food?"

"Not really into food."

"Neither am I. There's something."

"Us not liking the something is not remotely related. I like gym class. You love that science stuff. I still can't wrap my hand around most of what you've told me. Sounds nonsensical to me, to you, it's how you see everywhere in the world."

"That's true. Your right, this sucks. I hope we can still be friends."

"Of course we can. You don't have anything in common with Harry Osborn, yet he's like your best friend.

"That's-." Peter thought about it and realized Liz was correct. How was his best friend a rich who he had nothing in common with? He had similar interests to Gwen. They both loved science and would instead read books over any other source of entertainment. Then Peter did love video games. Only when he played with Harry, though. They got along great regardless of being poller opposites.

"Hello?" Liz said as Peter stopped talking and seemed to space out.

"Yeah, hi, sorry. You just made an excellent point. I had to take a step back, not literally. Did I literally take a step back?"

"Yes, Peter, you did."

"Well, you know I sometimes forget not to take a step back literally. I mean, I do remember. I just get so taken aback I just have to walk backwards, which is an absolutely safe thing to do. I just rambled on about nothing."

"You did. Thankfully, I find that oddly, humanizing."

"I'm oddly okay with that."

Liz laughed. "Your a breath of fresh air to talk with. Flash, my friends, always complain about something. It's a drag. Your down to earth, I like that."

"I like-." The bell rang, cutting Peter off. "Well, guess it's back to class." Said trying to sound upbeat, but a little disappointed. Then again, he was just happy to get closer to Liz.

She said bye and went on her way. Leaving Peter felt pretty good after there talk.

After school, Peter was happily heading home. He kept thinking about Liz. He was happy that they had seemly become better friends. He wondered if this could just be enough for him. Perhaps being romanticly involved was not necessary as he had been thinking. Aunt May must have been right. Wasn't shocking she was, being right was expected.

Peter decided to call Aunt May to talk about Liz and her day or course. He called her shortly into his bus ride home.

"Hey Aunt May," Peter said happily.

"Hello Peter. You sound quite happy! What happen?" May asked.

"How was your day?"

"It was okay. Tell me about yours!" She asked excitedly.

"Well, I think I've bonded a little more with Liz. As friends, just like you said I should. It was a sweet talk, and I think I've been helping with her science work. We'll see how she does on the test."

"I'm very happy for you Peter. Anything else in your day?"

"Um, there was this one funn-" Peter's phone rang while he was talking with Aunt May. It was MJ. "Sorry, Aunt May, MJ's calling, it might be important she never calls me now. Love you, I'll see you later."

"Love you too." Put hung up and switched calls.

"Hey, what's up?" Peter said.

"Some bad's happening Aunt Anna called my panic cause of some massive fire that was spreading. Near her friend's house who she's visiting. You need to check it out!"

"Okay, on my way there. Oh, what's the address?"

After the bus stopped for a moment, he hurried off it and changed as soon as he entered an alleyway.

Thankfully for him, the fire was not too far away. In a matter of minutes, he was at the destination. The fire was ragging on, and the fire department was fighting the blaze as it had spread to multiple buildings.

Peter saw another person helping them out by running into a building and seemly being immune to fire. Their identity could not be made out, but the help was certainly appreciated.

Peter also noticed another building was getting less attention. People were still trapped inside, and the department was clearly overwhelmed.

Spider-Man crashed through the top floor window and rushed to the people in need. Twelve people were still in danger, trapped with the stairwell completely in flemes.

They were all near windows crying for help.

Spider-Man approach them carefully, not wanting to spook them. One person saw as he approached. "Look Spider-Man's here to save us!" They said brightly.

I'll gladly take that positivity. Peter thought.

"How are you going to get us all down?" Another person asked, concerned.

"It's okay, I have a plan."

"Which is?"

"Well, I might have forgotten, which is fine because I have a better plan." While saying this, he was looking down at the ground, trying to come up with an actual plan.

"Okay! I have one!" He said triumphantly. "I'm going to make a zipline. Hold tight." He said swiftly, making a zipline to spot between buildings.

His plan was to make a platform for them to land on. They'd get there via zipline as the ground was too far. When they get there, he'd help them get to the ground.

Spider-Man procced to help the people get on the zipline and get across safely. It was going smoothly until it was time for the last person. The zipline began to break as they started to get across. Peter leaped to save them and caught them before they hit the ground. He took the damage for them, hitting the ground.

Why do things always go wrong for the last person? Peter thought. And why am I falling so much? Jeez, I wish it was winter so the ground wouldn't hurt so much!

"Thank you for saving me, Spider-Man!" The person said.

Peter helped the rest of the people down to safety as the first responders took notice of the people in trouble and came to check on them.

As Peter sighed with relief, he heard another faint voice crying out from the building. He rushed back inside to find the source of the cry.

Spider-Man fought though all the flames determined to find the person. As he got closer, the sight of a man engulfed in the fire could be seen. The man had no burns. However, he was still in distress.

"Are you alright?" Peter asked hesitantly.

"Stay back, my fault."

"Even if that's true, I can't leave you here. Come on!" Peter held out his hand as the man stayed back, sitting in the fire.

"Okay, this is on you then." Peter shot webbing at him, trying to pull him away from the fire. In return, his webs got incinerated.

"Leave me be. I just want to stay, I don't know what else to do. Maybe I can fix this." As The Man On Fire said, this more fire started coming all around him.

Spider-Man senses had kicked into overdrive, and he booked it out the window. He was nearly hit by an explosion taking out the whole building. More firefights rushed over as the rest stayed at along the road as fires still raged. Peter could not see the other hero who seemed to be helping. Perhaps they had somewhere else to be. As he wondered who it was, The Man On Fire emerged from the building rattled by what he had done.

"My home, Ms. Bunny and all those memories gone." He said, walking out. A couple of police came and yelled at him to get on the ground calling him a mutant.

"I'm not a mutant!" He cried, raising his hands as they begin to glow.

"Don't!" The officers commanded. They fired their weapons in fear of what he'd do next. Unfortunately, the bullets only made everything worse. He began glowing even brighter. The ground around him began to turn into Molton rocks. Everyone in the area backed away, including Peter.

Everything around him started getting recked by his out of control power.

"I know it's common sense, but let's spray him down with all the water you all have," Peter said to the firefighters. They all agreed and worked together to spray the man. Together, they sprayed him entirely for a least a minute. However, Peter noticed something odd, his powers just seemed to stop before he got sprayed. Regardless he was down.

Spider-Man approached as the firefighters stayed back. To Peter's surprise, the man got up as he approached. His Spider Sence did not warn him, which was unusual. The man ran as fast as he could into the destroyed building, trying to hide. Peter simply followed him.

The man formerly on fire looked around the ruins looking for something. He scrambled throughout it as he got increasingly upset. Spider-Man moved in and tried webbing him up.

He resisted this fighting back and yelling. "It's all gone. It's all gone." He lit up once more, not as bright.

Peter launched at him striking him in the face with all his might, knocking him to the ground.

"I won't let you take me to jail! I can still fix my mistakes!"

"Like sitting this block a flame and destroying this building. Unless your Bob The Builder, I don't think you'll be fixing this mess."

Peter hit him again, noting how his skin was hard and warm. Nothing he couldn't handle, though. The water definitely weakened him.

"What's the matter? Can't burn anything?" Peter hit him once more.

"Please! This is all just a misunderstanding."

"I think your past the misunderstanding phase. Sorry."

Peter kicked him three times in a row while jumping up in the air.

"Are you almost done?"

"If you send me away, my sister's going to have nobody. I'm all she has left." He put his hands up, bagging Spider-Man to leave him alone. Peter thought about it for a moment before Molton began raising from the ground again, nearly hitting Spider-Man.

"Wai-" The man tried saying.

"Nice try, liar." Peter got a couple of good hits in knocking the man out cold finally.

"You had me going for a second there." Peter began saying. "You sounded so genuine. Tell you what mystery man, you're a good liar."

Peter went off and brought the police to the man.

"He seemed to be protecting this spot. Badly, still worth a mention, I think." Peter said to one of the officers.

"Thanks, Spider-Man. Good to know you're on our side."

Another officer approached. "Our side? He took down one of our own the other day."

"That guy was out of his mind. By the end there anyway." The first officer replied.

A couple of other officers came over and joined in arguing. Peter tuned out and this point and went on his way, feeling awkward.

Later in the day after Peter had gone home, he went over to see and MJ. He knew she'd be worried about her aunt, as Peter would have been if it was May that in that manner of danger.

He went up to her window as her aunt had come home and was resting now.

"Hey," Peter said to her entering her open window. "How is she?" He asked.

"She's shaken, but okay. She was pretty worried about her friend, and I'm worried about her."

"I tried checking up on her, but."

"But what?"

"Other people needed my help, so I did not make sure she was okay. I was pretty certain she was. I'm happy I was right."

"It's a good thing you were," MJ said softly.

"What's the matter?"

"You would have checked if it was May, right?"

"That's not, well. It's different."

"I know it's not the same, but she's all I got. It just bothers me, I know it shouldn't. You were saving people in emanate danger, and she was not in danger. I know you did the reasonable heroic thing. I'd like to think if all the roles were reversed, I'd check on May, can't say for sure. Just thought I'd mention that. Be transparent with you. Like you are with me."

"You're not mad?"

"No. Expecting you to do such a thing is ridiculous. You made the right call. I'm disappointed with myself."

"Don't be. You love your aunt. As you said, if the roles were reversed, I'm sure we'd be having the same conversation." Peter replied.

They hugged briefly. Peter stayed with MJ a bit longer, talking with her and making jokes trying to cheer her up before going back home.

The next day Peter went to school with some sort of sense of dered lingering over him. He felt it getting inside. Multiple scenarios pasted through his mind. Before he could linger on any, the truth became clear.

Gwen came up to Peter.

"You know what happened to Liz, right?"

"No," Peter said.

"Her brother got arrested after he went on a rampage! It turns out he had superpowers somehow. It's horrible and -"

"He got in a fight with Spider-Man, didn't he?"

"Yeah, I guess you did hear then."

"Wish I did know."

A little shorter of a chapter. It does not say so, but this is a two-parter (Well everything is multipart, even standalone tales, reading the next one will clear up what I'm saying I hope) Having part two in mind will make this one stronger. Not to worry, I have it complete, and I'll have it out shortly.

Thank you for reading as always, till next time (:
