Peter woke up a few hours later. Harry had not gotten up as of yet, and he was always more of the sleepy one even before Peter's abilities came after the spider bite. That kid could definitely sleep for 12+ hours easily.
Peter exited his guest room and went off to make himself some breakfast. Even if Bernard were there, he wouldn't bother him never did in all these years.
As preparations for breakfast began, he realized someone else was in the house.
Carefully he slowly moved close to noises that could be heard after some focusing. Approaching closer, he realized who it was.
Norman Osborn.
"Peter Parker, your awake early." Norman Osborn said, noticing Peter.
"Hello, Mr. Osborn. It's not that early sir." Peter replied, getting less tense. His paranoia was starting to get to him.
"It is for you boys."
"Harry's not awake, and I was getting up to make breakfast. I've been so hungry lately."
"Not a surprise, Harry's always been a slothful child. Unlike you showing initiative making your food."
"He's not that bad, sir."
"Yes, that was quite harsh. He's greatly improved with your assistance, and it's appreciated. I apologize, long week."
"Yeah's he's come a lot way. You should be proud of him."
"How are your grades lately? Harry's said you had been off lately. Why is that?"
"Well, I've just been a bit off."
"I hope sincerely it does not affect your grades whatsoever is up with you, Parker. Your such a bright young man, all that intelligence in your mind shouldn't go to waste."
"Dad?" Harry said, coming into the kitchen, rubbing his eyes.
"Morning son, was not expecting you to be awake so soon."
"I thought you were going to spend all weekend at Ozcorp?" Harry asked, puzzled.
Peter decided it would be best to make cereal as they talked. He originally planned on making pancakes for himself and Harry. That seemed to be out the window.
"I was planning on that, changed my mind. Felt like we could bond this weekend. My gut's telling me that I might be busy these next few weeks."
"I thought you were already busy?"
"My point exactly, my workload shall get worse before it gets better I fear."
"Great, just what I wanted to hear," Harry said, annoyed.
Peter ate his cereal in the background awkwardly, trying to avoid making a sound.
"This is not my choice. These people I work with, they're the type who needs progress swiftly. It's good for Oscorp, which in turn will be good for us."
"Where is mom?"
"She's still helping the less fortunate overseas. Have you not spoken to her? I told her,- Never mind. She should be returning home next weekend. That's what she told me."
"I hope she's not delayed again."
"Me too son. Now I think you boys should have breakfast. Growing and all that." He said, walking away into his room. "I'll be out momentarily," Norman said, closing his doors gently.
"Yeah, cya in a few hours," Harry said, rolling his eyes, then occupied the chair beside Peter.
"That was fun." Peter said, trying to break the tension.
"It's the worst having to deal with him. We were having a good old time until he had to show up here."
"To be fair, he does want to spend time with you Harry," Peter said softly.
"Sure he does, father of the year. He'll just say how much I could improve. You know how he is. Been so much better just having the house to myself and Bernard. He's a better dad than my dad!"
Harry did not care what he said as Norman's room was soundproof.
"You can stand up to him. I've suggested that before."
"And? What will that do for me?"
"Telling him your upset would be a grand idea, Harry."
"Na, emotions make us weaker in this hardened world."
"Definitely not one of the most helpful things he's stated. That was years ago, you should ask him about his thought about that."
"We both know the answer."
"Do we? You've hardly talked in the past couple of years. Surely he's got to have changed his tune in someway. The brief times I've talked to him these past few months, his tone has been changing for the better."
"Another thing about these past few months that has changed is your getting more chatty about other people's problems."
"I've been feeling more, helpful. What can I say?"
"I did not ask for your opinion. And why do you keep defending him? Just cause he's a nice guy with you does not make him nice. I know he likes you better anyways."
"I know Harry. I've been here for years. And he loves you, in his weird way of not showing it. Never mind."
"Get on my side."
"I don't know if it's that simple."
"It should be, I'm your friend. Don't go on his side. Stick to mine!"
"It's the same with Gwen, I don't like taking sides. He does not seem evil. Why would I fight someone who's not evil?"
"That ridiculous. Of course he's not evil. Just an ass."
"That may be true, he is still your father. Mr. Osborn is still present in your life. Somewhat."
"Somewhat is critical."
"You should give him a chance to improve."
"Okay, then I guess you should leave. If we're going to bond, right?"
"Right," Peter replied softly. He got changed into his regular clothing and prepared to go on his way.
"Are you mad Harry?"
"No, of course not," Harry replied, not sounding genuine as he could.
Peter went on his way to feel quite bad about what happened with his friend. He went off retrieve his Spider-Man suit to get back out into the city.
Jeez, Harry can be hard to talk to sometimes. Peter thought, heading to where he stashed his suit.
I try to help him with his father, and this is the thanks I get. I would've stayed to make sure everything was going smoothly. Maybe that's too dementing. Wait I did not even finish my cereal for Pete's sake! I'll give him one thing, I do talk like I'm an old man.
Elsewhere in the city, Wilson Fisk was furiously slamming his fist down onto his desk. "Why was A.I.M operating in New York again! I thought we kicked them out Wesly!"
"We did sir, they appear to be working with someone else."
"Get Osborn on the phone. I suspect Silvermane or the Owl's behind this mess.
"When you're done, we have another situation that needs to be discussed. More fuel to this fire." He walked off and motioned all the guards to leave.
Fisk called up Norman Osborn as he had the door to his room shut.
"What now? I just got home." Osborn asked.
"A.I.M is active."
"What do you expect me to do regarding them?"
"Wipe them out."
"I'm not going to kill people. I've been forced to help, but I shall not kill for you!"
"It'd be rather unfortunate if what you've done for us was leaked to the public. You'd likely get out unscathed. What about Ozcorp? Your son?"
"Don't threaten Harry, or I'll dismantle your whole operation personally."
"Good, put that rage into getting me someone who'll wipe A.I.M off the face of the earth. I'll leave you and your son be for now if Silvermane's plans are in ruins as soon as possible."
"Why can't you do it!"
"I already have a contractor on the way. He'll be here any minute. I'd like another force of destruction to smoke them out. Two are better than one."
"Fine, I have the prototype for the unique kind of tank I've mentioned before. More personalized, distinctive. Fortunately, the military does not know what it looks like, and the NDA all my people have signed will prevent anyone from knowing what happened."
"Good, how long?"
"A few days, maybe a week. It needs the finishing touches put on it. This does not happen overnight. Then there's also the issue of transportation. Something like that is not moved easily."
"Wrong. My timetable has shrunk. It needs to be done in the next couple of hours. Get my man to pilot it. We'll deal with transportation. Just make sure it's prepared. No screw-ups or you are finished." Fisk hung up the phone and sighed, putting his hands on his head, visually upset. This was all unpleasant, but there was no purpose in avoiding the inevitable. Revenge was the path that was set on, and it is how it will all end.
With Norman, he slammed the phone down. He thought for a moment then picked it up once more.
"What's the progress on The Green. I'm going to need some soon at the rate Fisk is demanding work to be done." He said to an unknown person.
After receiving his suit, Peter soon detected some disturbance in the area. He went over to find a bunch of goons shooting up a couple of stores that seemed connected.
Spider-Man sneakily webbed a goon who was on lookout duty, pulling them up high and hiding them on the roof. Peter, of course, was going to get them down later.
One of the crocks realized someone was missing. Spider-Man jumped down and landed on her knocking her out. Subtlety was not going to work in this case, the goons seemed to mean business as gunshots were being fired carelessly.
Spider-Man charged at a group of them in one store, beating all of them up. More goons showed up in vans.
How many of these people are there! Peter thought, stretching his arms and legs.
A man with a scarf around his eyes could be seen fighting off a bunch of them. Peter had a suspension of their identity.
Together they fought off the goons knocking must of them out. They had a few stragglers in the brawl that unfolded, which raced off out of the area.
"Thanks for the assist, Daredevil."
"I'm not worthy of that name."
"Okay, two questions then. One why? And Two, I'm guessing you know more about what's happening here."
"An old friend got an early uncalled for release."
"Hammerhead?"
"Yes, he was broken out. Since then, he's been getting all his people to go a rampage."
"How many would that imply?"
"Hundreds. Maybe."
"Sorry, I must have miss heard you. You mean just a hand full, right?"
"I mean what came out of my mouth."
"Where are all these people coming from?"
"New York is a hub for criminal activity. Not to mention, the existence of us makes a challenge for crocks, and it's just a continuous escalation. One reason why I tried getting out of this. Do a different approach."
"How's that gone for you?"
"Well, considering a monster like Hammerhead could escape so smoothly, it does not help me believe in the law as much as I would like to."
His head moved slightly, hearing something else. "Finish this later, more shootings. We have to go."
On the way, Peter asked a question. A repeat. "I thought you were retired or something along those lines."
"You're persistent about asking."
"Just how I am."
"They're attacking my community, I'm not standing by and letting this continue. This is a temporary situation, I still have to work out my problems, solo. I don't need your assistance."
"You know, being a loner is not the best way to operate in life. I hope for your sake you've got people you trust and can talk to about this part of you."
He said nothing as they closed in on the commotion going on. Ultimately, it was just more of the same with the police zooming into the area. They stepped in to help out regardless as trouble was nevertheless afoot.
Spider-Man and not Daredevil thought off these goons as well who were just doing the same thing.
Peter noticed an irregular detail of this situation. They were attacking the same chine.
"Hey, something else is happening here," Spider-Man said, knocking out the last criminal. "I think these businesses are fronts."
"It'll have to be a police problem. I was dealing with the immediate threat." He said, preparing to go off.
"Wait! Just one minute search, then you can leave before they get here."
"Fine. This is an uncommon amount of thugs for one business."
They went inside the shop, finding the place trashed. Peter noticed something thanks to his Spider-sense.
"Hey, I'm getting a read about something over here."
"Same, feeling vibrations."
Spider-Man moved an object and punched the wall a couple times. Then proceeded to rip off the false wall finding a stairwell.
"Still want to leave?" Peter asked.
"Quickly move." He replied.
They went done getting a surprise from a shotgun blast. Peter reacted as it happened, kicking the shooter back against the tight walls.
"Look, a tunnel."
"Great, this just keeps getting better. Was not expecting to find secret tunnels underneath the city."
"We need to follow, they looted this place dry." Not Daredevil stated, feeling the empty shelves. This was resent. Whoever did this is still here."
They moved down the tunnel.
"Your not Daredevil anymore. What am I meant to call you then?"
"I was thinking about Not Daredevil, but that's a bit much, no? I'll call you, guy."
"Guy? Seriously?"
"Yes, guy. That's your name until you identify as Daredevil again."
"This is a problem," Guy said, looking at the second direction of tunnels.
"I suspect the tight tunnels could be effecting your ability to detect them."
"Good guess. Your right, also making it hard to see in indefinite with the lack of any sound or vibrates. When I get closer to the commotion, I'll be back to my heightened senses."
"Okay, I'll help you get out using one of these pathways. Stick behind me and hold my hand."
"No."
"I was joking about the hand holding."
"I know. I'm going to go regardless."
"Unwise idea. The likely hood of you malfunctioning raises profoundly. You could die if with split up here. Or get caught."
He ignored him and went off.
"Wait!"
"Don't follow! Go the other way! I can make out people on both sides. Stop the ones on your side. Don't let them escape, no matter what!" He went off, slowly deeper into the tunnel.
Dammit. I hate saying a word like that. However, it fits well. No point in trying to stop him. I can't, I've seen how he moves he'd take me down and the crocks would just getaway. Peter thought, rushing down his tunnel, hoping there would still be enough time to check on his ally.
Spider-Man's head started blaring as he got to the end of his side. Goons in military gears came were above the stairs peeking down. Peter could see a few bloodstains. They began immediately firing relentlessly as they saw him and started shouting. "Spider-Man sighting!"
Oh boy, this is bad. Peter thought running away, it was so tight he had no chance. Getting to the midway point gave some more room as it was more extensive. The shooters chased one by one.
Spider-Man breathed as the first goon walked a step past him. Jumping in the area lightly, he kicked the opening in the wall and positioned himself sideways. Webbed wildly at the rest hitting one only. Peter then walked thought the hall, punching and kicking them one by one, knocking them all out as they failed to defend themselves unable to shoot or even really see.
Wow, what a lucky break. As he thought this, sounds were coming from Guy's side. The police swat team was coming in three times the number was night-vision goggles. It appeared to be them, but it was unclear. So, Peter went back to were the goons chased him. It was an educated guess. They all went after him so it would be cleared. Or at least better.
Guessing this worked out as it was clear. Spider-Man ignored all the loot and went upstairs. It was the exact same layout as the original place. Getting out was easy as the false wall was blown up.
Police were in the area, Spider-Man promptly sneaked out the back.
I should have gone back for him. Just like I told him, death or capture. Maybe he got out, someway. I need to calm down. If he got captured by the cops, I could convince Caption Stacy to let him go. Right! My burner. I almost forgot already.
"Spider-Man?"
"Bingo, would you happen to know about a bunch of shootings on-
"Of course you're there. What's the situation. Police have just gotten reached the locations. Nobody's certain what's happening swat's still on the way."
"Are you 100% swat is not there? I need to know for without a doubt."
"Okay, one moment," Stacy said curiously, putting Spider-Man on hold.
This is not promising. My spider-sense was still going off, I should have stayed to stop them. Please tell me everything is hunky-dory.
"It's severe, where are you in relation to the tunnels?"
"Close, I got out and called you. Police are there."
"Hammerhead and his people are in a standoff with my people. Along with a second faction, I suspect to be Kingpin's people."
"Great, so what your telling me is I exited the exact place I needed to be."
"Afraid so."
"Grand, would you happen to know if there are any hostages or you have a masked man in custody or heck even seen him."
"I've heard nothing about masked people. Just gang members."
"Even better, tell me how I can help."
"Come to-" Peter half-heard the address, but he was distracted by his real phone ringing. "Uh, I got it. I'll be right there." He hung up on Stacy. Making out the address wouldn't be hard, just follow the sirens.
Checking the real phone showed Aunt May was calling him.
Great timing as usual May. Peter thought picking up the phone.
"Peter? I thought you were going to call me in the morning?"
"Oh shoot, I completely forgot."
"Are you still at Harry's?"
"No, Mr. Osborn came home so I felt like they needed the space."
"Oh okay, so you're on the way back home?"
"Yep, I'll be home in a jiffy. I just left, and I'm not positive what the traffic will be like. So, I'll keep you updated. Bye love you." Peter said as cheerfully as possible, not feeling the best.
"Love you too." She replied with a hint of disappointment., but overall sincerity.
Peter hung up and went off to deal with the growing situation.
Meanwhile, Aunt May drank coffee all by herself. Starring at the increasing bills. Saden by how lonely she's become in the last few months. Her life was completely flipped on it's head. It was hard adjusting to, and Peter's lies did not help at all. She knew that something else was happening with her nephew. Just not exactly what.
Now it's time for the first arc (In mY oPinIon) to start ramping up at long last! Part 1 of 5 of Gangwar begins along with a twist I hope is surprising!
Best wishes for you all and during this crazy time most definitely.
