Chapter One: New In Town

As Alexis is walking one evening she notices a boy with a puppet sitting in the park.

"Oh nothing is good enough Mrs. Coconuts. What am I going to do for the talent show at school? I really want to knock their socks off." The boy says frustratedly.

"Um are you okay?" Alexis asks as she walks over to the boy.

"Huh? Who are you?" The boy asks as he looks at Alexis.

"I'm Alexis. I just moved here. I couldn't help but over hear and you sound like you're troubled by something." Alexis says as she looks at the boy curiously.

"Oh. Yeah. You see I do comedy and I like to make people laugh." The boy says as he gestures to a notebook laying next to him.

"So you're a comedian?" Alexis asks curiously as the boy nods.

"Right. And the school talent show is coming up and I've been trying to come up with an act that will make people laugh. Some of my jokes tend to come off as forced though." The boy says before Alexis sits down.

"May I?" Alexis asks as she gestures to the notebook.

"Sure I guess." The boy says as he hands Alexis the notebook before she reads it and begins laughing.

"I see nothing wrong with these jokes. They seem pretty funny to me." Alexis says as she smiles and hands the boy back his notebook.

"Really?" The boy asks curiously.

"Yeah. Of course I'm not the entire student body but I like them." Alexis says as she shrugs slightly while smiling.

"Thanks. I'm glad someone does. I needed the reassurance." The boy says as he smiles.

"No problem. So what's your name?" Alexis asks curiously.

"Lane. Lane Loud and this is Mrs. Coconuts." The boy says as he holds up the puppet.

"Nice to meet you sweets." The boy says as he holds his puppet up to make it appear like it's talking.

"Nice to meet you both." Alexis says as she smiles kindly.

"Well you know my name. What's yours?" Lane asks curiously.

"Alexis. Alexis Hathaway." Alexis says happily.

"And you said you're new here?" Lane asks as Alexis nods.

"Yeah. I just moved here a few weeks ago. I haven't really made any friends or anything yet. Been busy unpacking. And I was just finally able to get out the door today to go explore." Alexis says.

"You shouldn't have any problems making friends. You seem really nice. I mean I'm enjoying talking to you." Lane says as he smiles.

"I'm enjoying talking to you too Lane. And of course Mrs. Coconuts." Alexis says as she smiles.

"Hey would you maybe wanna come over and hang out at my house for a bit? Of course you'd have to deal with my brothers and my sister Linka but they shouldn't bother you too much." Lane says.

"I don't mind. How many brothers do you have?" Alexis asks curiously.

"Um I have nine brothers and one sister." Lane says sheepishly.

"You have ten siblings?" Alexis asks in surprise.

"Yeah. The word loud for us tends to mean more than just our last name sometimes. If you don't feel comfortable with that it's okay. People tend to shy away from our house when they find out how many kids there are." Lane says as he looks down.

"Well I don't mind. Yeah that will definitely be new to me but it's okay. I wanna hang out more with you Lane." Alexis says as she smiles.

"So yes then?" Lane asks as Alexis nods.

"Yeah." Alexis says happily.

"Great! Come on. You can watch me rehearse my act as my personal little audience and then we can watch TV while we wait for my mom to make dinner... You know if you want to." Lane says excitedly.

"That sounds fine to me." Alexis says as she chuckles.

"Cool. You'll love my mom's cooking. She's even got a restaurant here in town." Lane says as he and Alexis stand up.

"That sounds really cool." Alexis says as she and Lane begin walking together.
