Chapter XV.
Last Time.
Glynda looked down at that. "Save for the glass, that sounds like the woman I fought the night we met Ruby."
"Embedding Dust into clothing is an age-old technique. It could have been anyone." James sighed as he walked back to the desk
"I thought she was connected to Torchwick and the White Fang." Naruto sighed before speaking. "Blake told me there was a possible hideout in the Southeast… A tip she picked up on when going to that White Fang get-together if that helps."
"Thank you for your cooperation, Naruto. Why don't you go and spend some time with your team? You have a big day ahead of you."
"Naruto turned to leave at that. "Any time."
"And Mr. Uzumaki, please try and be… Discreet about this matter."
"Yes sir." Naruto nodded before getting in the elevator. Once going down, he saw Ruby in her Huntress clothes before speaking. "Hey, Ruby."
"Hi, Naruto. Was that about the woman you fought last night?"
"Yeah, it was the same woman we fought before joining the school." He replied having her eyes widened. "So be on the lookout for her or anyone acting suspicious." He finished before walking away with her to the dorms.
Now.
Beacon Academy Ozpin's Office.
"Well, there we have it. We send as many troops as we can to the southeast, find out exactly what's going on, and eradicate any forces that stand in our way." Ironwood spoke up looking out the window he had his arm leaning against before Glynda sighed in frustration.
"Why must your answer to everything involves a triumphant display of military bravado!? You treat every situation like it's a contest of measuring di-"
"Glynda!" Ozpin turned in his chair at that stopping the blonde.
"Well, he does."
"She's right. As much as I too would love to end this situation once and for all, we must remember that this may go beyond Vale. Beyond Beacon. And if this truly is part of some master plan for which we know not the final move, we mustn't be so bold. Nor can we risk the spread of panic." Ozpin sighed as James walked over to stare at the two.
"I have served you faithfully for years... but if you mean to tell me that your plan is to really hold the defenses, and wait-!"
Ozpin abruptly stands from his chair interrupting the general. "It is not! You're a general, James. So tell me, when you prepare to go to war, which do you send in first? The flag bearers, or the scouts?"
SHNN Dorm.
"That was a risky move."
Haru said before Shiki shook his head.
"No, I think you handled it well."
"I hope so." Naruto sighed as he was looking out of the window before hearing Yang's voice yell out.
"Oh, I know what will cheer you up!"
Blinking, Naruto moved to walk out in the hall and then to RWBY's dorm to see a black and white Corgi dog fall out of a cylinder tube.
"Zwei!" Ruby exclaimed jumping in the air.
"He sent a dog?"
"In the mail?" Weiss asked as Yang waved her off.
"Oh, dad does stuff like this all the time!" She said before Blake hid behind Naruto as Weiss looked at Zwei who was picked up by Ruby.
"Are you telling me that this mangy... Drooling... Mutt is going to wiv wif us foweva? Oh, yes he is, yes he is! Oh, isn't he adorable!"
Naruto blinked at the way Weiss changed her tune before hearing Blake from behind him speak up. "Please keep it away from my belongings."
"Would all first-year students please report to the amphitheater?" Glynda spoke over the intercom before Naruto's team, walked as Yang picked up a letter from her father.
"'Dear girls, I've got to leave the island for a few days, so I'm sending Zwei to you to take care of. Enclosed is all the food you should need. Love you both, Taiyang.'"
Dozens of cans of dog food spill out of the small package, piling up around Zwei. "What is he supposed to do with that?" Naruto asked as a can opener fell from the package, bouncing off Zwei's head.
"Well, that settles it! Come on girls, Zwei will be here when we get back!" Yang bumped past Naruto as she and the others walked down the hall with Weiss talking to Zwei.
"Oh, I'll miss you so much, we're going to be best friends, I can't wait to see you."
Ruby was the last to leave before glancing at the panting dog for a moment, before smiling sneakily.
In the amphitheater, Ruby is wearing a large backpack as she enters the auditorium with other students. She then puts it down next to other students' luggage before rejoining her team, who are standing in front of Team JNPR as Yang stood beside Naruto and the rest of Team SHNN.
"Quiet! Quiet please." Glynda spoke on the stage quieting the teens down. "Professor Ozpin would like to share a few words before we begin." She finished before letting Ozpin on the stage and at the microphone.
"Today we stand together, united. Mistral. Atlas. Vacuo. Vale. The four Kingdoms of Remnant. On this day, nearly eighty years ago, the largest war in recorded history came to an end. It was a war of ignorance, greed, and of oppression. A war that was about much more than where borders fell or who traded with whom, but about the very idea of individualism itself."
"We fought for countless reasons, one of which being the destruction of all forms of art and self-expression. And as you are well aware, that was something many could not stand for. As a result, those who opposed this tyranny began naming their children after one of the core aspects of art itself: color. It was their way to demonstrate that not only would they refuse to tolerate this oppression, but neither were the generations to come."
"And it was a trend that is held to this very day. We encourage individuality, expressionism, and unity through diversity. As I have said, today we stand together, united. But this bond cannot exist without effort. Which is why today, while the rest of the world celebrates peace, Huntsmen and Huntresses will work to uphold it. As first-year students, you will be tasked with shadowing a professional Huntsman or Huntress on a mission."
"Some of you may be taken out of the Kingdom for several days. Others may work within the walls for the rest of the week. But no matter which path you choose, remember to be safe, remember your training, and remember to do your very best." Ozpin steps away as the students all begin to file out of the amphitheater.
"This is perfect! All we have to do is shadow a Huntsman working in the southeast!" Ruby spoke up having Naruto glance over.
"Yeah! We'll follow them around by day and give them the slip by night!"
While the teams looked at the screens for missions to shadow, Ozpin pulled Naruto's team over to Team RWBY before speaking. "I'm still curious how you all found yourself at the docks last semester. I'm interested to know how you really learned about a hideout in the southeast. And I certainly wonder why witnesses reported seeing robots and rose petals in a dance club some time ago."
"Um... well…" Ruby rubbed the back of her head at that.
"I doubt I'll ever find the exact answers I'm looking for. So how about this: instead of waiting for you all to break the rules, why don't we just bend them?" Ozpin selects some things on his scroll, and the hologram screen makes a noise. "Take Team SHNN with you since you're first years."
"We won't let you down. Thank you, professor." Naruto spoke up having Ruby nod her head.
"Do not thank me for this. Teamwork and persistence have carried you far. But you must understand, that the things that await you beyond the protection of the Kingdom will not care. Stay close to your Huntsman at all times, and do exactly as he says. He will be leading you on this mission, and he can have you sent back to Beacon if he finds your skills to be unsatisfactory. Good luck."
The two teams left the auditorium and are on their way to the airship that will take them to Quadrant 5 and saw Team CFVY.
"Hey! Team CFVY is back!?"
Beacon students gather around to witness the return of Team CFVY as Blake goes up to Velvet. "Velvet? Are you okay?"
"I'm fine. I had Yatsuhashi to look out for me."
"Your mission was supposed to end a week ago! What happened?" Weiss asked as she walked up.
"Nothing happened. It was just... There were just so many…" She trailed off looking at the worried expressions and then looked at Naruto. "Oh, but don't worry. You first-years are just shadowing Huntsmen, so you should be fine."
"Right."
"Talking to your boyfriend, Velvet?"
They looked to see Coco sauntering over. "You know you shouldn't hog him all to yourself right?"
"W-What?" Velvet asked blushing as Naruto blinked.
Coco winked at Naruto before turning to walk away with a sway in her hips before Velvet pushed her faster.
"We can do this. We've never backed down before, and we're not going to start now." Ruby spoke up at the Teams having them nod.
"Right."
"Besides, it won't only be us out there! We'll be fighting alongside a genuine Huntsman!"
Later, the two Teams looked at Oobleck who was wearing a jacket and safari hat with a backpack.
"Why, hello there! Who's ready to fight for their lives?"
"Professor Oobleck?" Haru asked before the professor started talking quickly.
"Yes, I'm afraid those bags won't be necessary, seeing as you've opted to shadow a Huntsman on what is now essentially a reconnaissance mission. I can assure you, that we will not be establishing a single base of operations; rather, we will be traversing several miles of hazardous wasteland and making camp in any defendable locations we may stumble upon. I packed all of our essentials myself, plotted our air course, and readied the airship. And…" He trailed off before quickly getting in the boy's face. "It's Doctor Oobleck. I didn't earn the Ph.D. for fun, thank you very much!"
"Come now, children; according to my schedule, we are already three minutes behind!" He said before raising a hand. "Schedule!" Oobleck then zips off to the airship docked farther ahead in a second.
"Well, alright, then! Looks like we're going to save the world with Doctor Oooobleck… OK yeah, when you say it out loud it sounds worse."
Naruto lurched forward as he was tackled by Nora, breasts pressing on his back. "You're going on world-saving missions without us? I'm hurt... sad! Maybe a little hungry? That last one's not my fault, though, Ren..."
"Sounds exciting. Where ya going?"
They turned to see Jaune walking up to them with Pyrrha. "Oh, just outside the kingdom…" Ruby explained as Nora smiled.
"Hey! So are we."
"Nora and Ren wanted to shadow the Sheriff of a nearby village," Pyrrha explained, hands on her hips.
"We set out tomorrow."
"Then you can party with us tonight."
They all turned to see Sun and Neptune appearing beside them. "We're shadowing a crime specialist. All inner-city detective stuff. We get junior badges."
"We normally go to the city with you guys, which means stuff's always exploding and junk, so we thought this might be a better way to check out the kingdom when it's, you know... Normal." Sun explained uncrossing his arms.
"Four minutes!" Oobleck shouted from the ship getting the two teams to look over.
"Well, uh... Wish us luck!" Ruby said as the friends disband, either back to Beacon Academy or towards the ship.
Later, Naruto sighed as Natsu was laying on one of the benches, green-faced.
"I guess I just never saw you as much of a fighter."
He looked over to see Oobleck talking to Team RWBY. "I admit I fancy myself more of an intellectual, but I can assure you, as a Huntsman, I've had my fair share of tussles."
"Like the mushroom?" Ruby asked tilting her head.
"Those are truffles," Blake explained leaning over
"Like the sprout?"
"Those are Brussels," Yang explained also leaning over.
"Besides, given my expertise in the field of history as well as my dabblings in the archaeological surveys, our dear headmaster saw fit to assign me to this particular... Assignment!"
"What does history have to do with this?"
Shiki asked the Doctor who looked back.
"Why, what a preposterous question! Why history is the backbone of our very society! And the liver! Probably the kidneys, if I were to wager."
"And that means…?"
"The southeast quadrant outside of Vale is home to wild forests and deep caves, but it is also the location of one of the kingdom's greatest failures!" Oobleck explained to the two teams.
"Mountain Glenn." Ruby mused as Natsu puked out the door.
"That's right! It was an expansion of Vale... But in the end, it was overrun by Grimm and fenced off from the rest of the city." Yang explained having Oobleck nod.
"Correct! And now it stands abandoned as a dark reminder."
"And a likely place for a hideout," Naruto said as Oobleck adjusts his glasses and smiled. "Precisely!" He said as they landed by destroyed buildings.

Next to be updated will hopefully be Shinobi on Board as I got the almost 2-hour OVa and a fifteen-minute prologue for GOLD. If I get to at least 3k with just the OVAs I'll add it but if I'll be at 2k (As Naruto won't be at the start) I'll add Gold and that could take longer.
