Chapter VII

Aid

Hannah had been pondering a certain matter for a few days now. Despite her change in attitude towards Akko and her willingness to help her at any time, as seen in class, she felt it wasn't enough. She knew and wanted something more. She wanted to start spending time with the Japanese girl, to learn how she saw the world, what made her surprised, what made her smile, what she enjoyed every day, to see her sleepy face and wake her up with a gentle stroke on the cheek, to walk hand in hand down the halls and get lost in the gaze of those beautiful ruby eyes. But the truth was she didn't know what to do.

Since childhood, she had always been aware of her attraction to men. She knew perfectly well how to flirt with them, how to attract them, or how to simply stand out above the others. But this time, it was entirely different. She didn't know where to start with Akko. Should she keep approaching her the way she was? Or should she be more direct? Should she continue to present herself as the rich girl she knew she was, or be more humble? All of this was slowly eating her up, and she really didn't want to ruin it. She knew there was something more with Akko, she could feel it, and her instincts always told her that this girl was not like the others.

"Haaa," she sighed as she dismounted from her broom after completing the practice exercise that Professor Nelson had ordered them to do.

With both feet back on the ground and stretching her legs a bit, she heard someone call her from behind, "Hannah!" When she turned around, she saw that it was Barbara, who had hurried to catch up with her. "Do you want to join me and Avery for some tea?" she quickly blurted out, and Hannah was sure that Barbs sounded a bit different.

Taking her time to respond, she heard the girl speak again, "Please, Hannah, it's been so long since we spent time together," and that was true. Akko had her so distracted that she had completely forgotten about her best friend. However, she had already seen the little Japanese girl in a corner trying to mount her broom, and an irresistible urge to go help her had taken over her. Waiting a few more seconds with her decision already made, she said, "Alright, Barbs, give me a few minutes. I need to do something, and then we'll get ready." She saw the black-haired girl smile from ear to ear and nod in agreement.

Leaving Barbara, she walked directly towards her point of interest, and just a few meters away, she heard the girl shout, "Tia Freyre!" and then watched her jump with all her might, but nothing happened.

"Hello, Akko," she greeted, catching Akko's attention, who immediately responded, "Hannah!" as energetically as ever.

"Trying to fly?" she asked, feigning ignorance so as not to offend the girl. "Y-yes, you guessed it, although you don't have to be a genius," she smiled and continued, "But, as you can see, as always, I can't even stay in the air." She now changed her expression to a slightly more somber one, although she still maintained her smile.

Hannah, seeing this and obviously with the intention of spending a few more seconds with her, suggested, "Do you want me to help you?" Akko looked at her for a few seconds, and as a small gleam formed in her eyes, she nodded and said, "Yes, thank you, Hannah." Happy with the reaction, Hannah got even closer and said, "Well, even if it's not a method they teach us here at school, it's how they taught me at home." Moving closer to the girl, she positioned herself in front of her and said, "Akko, pay close attention." Taking the broom and holding it upside down with the head pointing towards the sky, she continued, "Akko, what you have to do is very simple. First, channel your magic into the broom. When you notice some of the bristles start to move, place your hand over them, and you'll feel a strange force trying to pull it away. That means you're doing it right. Finally, let go of the broom and see how it holds itself."

Immediately, before the girl could complain that her explanation had been too vague or long, she proceeded to do it herself. She channeled some magic into her broom and waited for the bristles to start dancing. She placed her hand over them, and it was pushed away by an invisible force. Finally, she let go of her broom and moved a few steps away from it.

Turning to look at Akko to enjoy her reaction, she was surprised to see that the girl wasn't looking at her but at the broom that was between them, holding itself up without any assistance. She looked serious and thoughtful, as if she were slowly analyzing the process. Hannah, with the intention of snapping her out of her trance before their time was up, said, "Do you want to try it?" Akko nodded and positioned herself in the same way.

She watched as Akko closed her eyes and with a clear relaxed intention, began channeling magic into her broom. For a few seconds, nothing happened, and nervousness became evident in Hannah. But Akko continued to concentrate. After what felt like hours, she realized something—the straw bristles were starting to move. Immense joy filled her heart, and with a wide smile, she turned to Akko and said, "Open your eyes, Akko." And the girl complied.

When Akko looked at her broom and saw the straw bristles moving, she didn't say a word. She remained completely still, as if she couldn't believe what she was seeing right before her eyes.

The brown-haired girl continued her task and positioned herself behind Akko, taking the Japanese girl's hands gently. She placed one of her hands over the broom, feeling the opposing force, then together, they slowly stepped back to see how the little witch's broom remained suspended in place without anyone's assistance.

Suddenly, Akko began to tremble, and from the corner of her eye, Hannah noticed tears welling up in the young girl's eyes.

Without hesitation, she raised her arms to Akko's shoulders and hugged her gently while she heard whispering.

"…Ha-a-ann-ah"

"...Th-thank you."

"Hic...th-thank you."
