I do not own the Boy/Girl Battle Series or these characters.
Caroline and Wally are in 9th grade. I'll let you do the math.
Caroline's feet pounded on the concrete. She woke up late today, and her sisters didn't bother to wake her up. She took a glance at her watch. She was nearly thirty minutes late. Yesterday, the Malloy family had flown back from New York, a surprise trip for the girls. Eddie, for the Yankees; Beth, for her love of the Percy Jackson series; and Caroline, for her love of Broadway. She had marveled at everything. Everything was wonderful. But the flight back was overnight, and Caroline hadn't slept a wink on the plane. She refused to. She hated falling asleep on any moving vehicle. Ask anyone. So now, Caroline was paying the price by being late to school. Dreaded school. She was sure Wallace James Hatford would give her a tough time for being late.
"Your sisters were here early; where were you?"
"Almost thought you died, I'm disappointed you showed up."
It was almost to horrid to think about. However, a new thought crept into Caroline's brain. Why was she thinking about Wallace Hatford? Caroline shook her head as she rounded the corner and sprinted to the doors. They were locked of course so she rang the doorbell.
The bell rang three times and the door unlocked. Caroline pulled it open and walked inside. She walked over to the main office and waited for the door to unlock. It did and she signed the tardy book.
Name Time in Reason
Caroline Malloy 8:12 Slept in
She retrieved her pass from the lady at the desk and headed to her first period class. She entered the room and handed the pass to her teacher. Caroline quickly took her seat behind Wally and pulled out her school-admissioned laptop, and started to catch up on the work.
A few minutes later, Wally leaned back and threw a note on Caroline's desk. Caroline looked at it for a minute, then opened it.
Where were you? Thought you died. Though it wouldn't be the first time lol.
Caroline let out a smirk, recalling the first prank she and her sisters pulled on Wally and his brothers. Quickly she wrote something back.
Slept in. We went to New York City yesterday. Couldn't fall asleep on the plane flight.
Caroline pretended to fall forward, hands out, in frustration of the assignment, and poked Wally in the back with the note. He put his hand behind him and she dropped the note into it. Caroline saw his head tilt down, reading the note. Wally turned his head to face her and gave her a thumbs up, a slight smile on his face. He turned back around and continued the assignment.
Caroline sat there dumbfounded, her mouth slightly agape. Wally never smiled anymore, not even when spelling, or looking at bugs, and especially never at her. Caroline tried her best to ignore the gesture and do the work, but she couldn't. She needed to get to the bottom of his odd reaction.
A few minutes back
Where is she? Wally thought. She's never late
Suddenly, the door opened and in walked Caroline, red in the face, her hair a mess, yet Wally was happy to see her. For some reason, for the past few weeks, his mood has always improved when he saw Caroline.
He tried not to seem too excited when she walked past him to sit in her chair. He tried to do his work, but curiosity got the better of him. He got a sticky note and thought long and hard about what he should write down.
Where were you?
Wally knew he had to write more or it would be suspicious to Caroline.
Where were you? Missed ya.
Wally quickly erased what he wrote, his ears turning slightly pink. She's take that the wrong way, he was sure of it.
Where were you? Did you die like before?
Wally erased that too. But it did give him a idea.
Where were you? Thought you died.Though it wouldn't be the first time lol.
Wally, feeling satisfied, leaned back and tossed the note onto Caroline's desk. He turned his head slightly to see her smirk at the note. Wally mentally applauded himself, fighting his own smile. He saw her lean over the note, writing something. Wally turned around pretending to work, until he felt something pole his back. He turned his head and saw Caroline laying flat on her face, arms outstretched, the one with the note poking him, in fake frustration. Crazy Caroline, he thought. Smiling slightly, he put his hand behind his back and felt the note fall in his hand.
Wally brought the note to his line of vision, eager to read it.
Slept in. We went to New York City yesterday. Couldn't fall asleep on the flight back.
Wally smiled at her handwriting, with its loops and curves, and the actual words of the note. He's known since basically forever that she's wanted to go to New York all her life. He turned to face her, his thoughts racing to find something to tell her.
Instead he just gave her a thumbs up, not realizing he was still smiling.
Malloy household
"Beth I'm telling you, he was acting weird." Caroline said, following Beth as quick as possible around the house. Beth was about to head over to the Hatfords house for a study sesh with Wally.
"I don't know, that sounds like Wally." Beth said doubtfully.
"Beth." Caroline gave her sister a look. "You're like his best friend."
"Girl best friend." Beth corrected. "I'm not as high up as Bill or Danny, whom, you should be telling this to."
"Please as if. You know I can't talk to them after the March Incident." Caroline said with air quotes.
"Not my problem. I can still talk to Tony and Eddie can still talk to Steve normally." Beth dismissed. "Besides, that was, what, 5 years ago? Girl, c'mon."
"Beeeth," Caroline whined, "pleeeeaaassseee."
"You sound so annoying when you do that." Beth said. "Ok fine I'll ask him."
"You will? Beth you're the best!" Caroline squealed, hugging the life out of her sister.
"Ok, ok, ok! You can let go of me now!" Beth yelled.
"Thank you thank you thank you!" Caroline yelled.
"Ok, ok, I need to go now." Beth said, gathering her things and walking out the door. Caroline sighed and went up to her room. She flopped onto her bed and rolled over to her stomach. She grabbed her favorite magazine and started to flip through the pages before groaning and grabbing her phone.
(Caroline)
(Beth)

Okkkkkk
Caroline turned off her phone and sighed again. She thought about what Beth said. Of course Beth knew the answer to her own question. Caroline secretly had a crush on Wally. Beth was the first one told about it. Caroline sighed once more. She flopped onto her back. Why'd he smile at me? He hates me definitively. Caroline thought. Caroline got up to look for Eddie then sat back down knowing she was with Jake, Steve and Tony playing baseball. Caroline was the only sister who didn't have anything to do. Sighing again, (this girl really likes to sigh huh? -meee ;) ) Caroline got up and opened her folder and got her homework out. All of a sudden, the doorbell rang. Caroline went to go get it. Bill was standing at the door.
Beth rang the doorbell to the Hatfords.
"I'll get it!" Josh yelled. He was on the couch drawing another drawing of Beth. Hey, the boy didn't know she was coming over today!
Josh opened the door and nearly fell down.
"Wally's home right?" Beth asked.
"U-um yeah! Wally!" Josh yelled, stepping towards the couch to prepare to jump onto it, hiding the drawing. "Come in."
Beth smiled and stepped in. Josh ran and jumped onto the couch as he planned. Beth chuckled at his dorkiness and closed the door behind her. She had grabbed her plaid shawl with colors of peach, gray and black and she was wearing her favorite Converse shoes with blue jeans and a black and white sweater.
Wally came downstairs with wet hair having just taken a shower wearing a white shirt and pajama pants.
"Cmon." was all he said. Beth went upstairs into Wally's room, and opened her bag revealing the books they planned to read.
"You didn't tell me she was coming!" Josh whispered frantically.
"I thought you knew?" Wally asked nonchalantly.
Josh looked himself up and down. "Dude do I look like I knew?" Josh was wearing pajama pants, an old smock and his favorite blue hoodie was wrapped around his waist.
Wally patted him on his shoulder. "Yes."
"Wally-"
"Shhh, you're fine." Wally said with the least amount of energy."
Wally entered his room, but made sure to leave the door open so Josh didn't get a heart attack and die.
"So what do we have today?" Wally asked.
As Beth listed off the books she brought, Wally couldn't help but think of Caroline. Beth and Caroline have the same exact energy when talking about their favorite things and tended to talk his ears off but he didn't mind for some reason. Especially with Caroline.
"Penny for thought?" Beth asked. Wally took a penny off his desk and threw it at her. "Hey, you just looked distracted! What's on your mind?"
Wally blushed a tad. "Your sister." He mumbled.
"What?" Beth asked.
"Nothing." Wally said dismissively.
"No I heard you I just wasn't expecting that answer." Beth said. "Come to think of it, Caroline was asking me to ask you why you were acting weird in class today."
"How'd you know it was Caroline?" Wally asked, almost jumping.
"That, and the fact you and Eddie don't have any common interests cause she and Jake are practically meant to be, and you and Eddie don't talk or even see each other often." Beth explained.
Wally couldn't respond to her reasoning so he stayed quiet.
"Sooo you have a thing for my sister?" Beth asked, no longer excited about the books.
"I think so."
Don't worry this hopefully will become a full fledged story, and not just a one shot. I will try my best to maintain my motivation for this story cause I think it would just be so cute! Ysa out!
