To See About a Girl

A short story inspired by the film "Good Will Hunting"

Before you start; I like to think the story feels better if you imagine Robin Williams telling it. Go on now

He hadn't ever believed in love at first sight. No, his mind was too scientific, he needed evidence and he hadn't yet seen any. As far as he was concerned love at first sight was an old wives tale, or a lie someone used when the story of meeting their significant other wouldn't please their parents, or someone important enough for the two to care.

That was until that one fateful day when he saw her. Long jet black hair, deep brown eyes and pale skin, but not too pale. It almost had a soft milkyness to it, the kind that would make any sane mane stop and stare. Which he did, and he had for what seemed like forever before she got fed up with his alleged inability to approach and talk to her

"You're an idiot" She said plainly, almost with a dry tone yet it barely had a hint of jokingness

'I'm sorry?' he responded as he was taken aback but not in an offended kind of way, but just shocked that she came over and talked to him, him! He wasn't even the best looking in his friend group, best anything in the group of five that was there

But that was a lie

He sucked at sports compared to them, sure he wasn't the fastest runner, strongest or had the most handsome face, not to say he was ugly but he was a 7 among 9s. So what could he do? Well he could drive anything like nobody's business. As long as it had a steering wheel he could drive it.

His preference though was his 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle. It wasn't the prettiest thing as the paint had worn over time, the chrome has also faded. But it ran just like it had off the assembly line, and that's what mattered.

"I said, You're and idiot…you've been staring at me for nearly an hour while i've been waiting for you to come over, but it's too late now so goodnight"

She started walking toward the door, and it took him a moment to realize what was happening. Once he did realize it, he followed after her quickly

"Hey wait, wait" He said as he caught up "i never got your name"

She stopped and turned to face him when he caught up, trying to hide a small smile "It's Emily"

He couldn't help but smile "Well it was nice to meet you Emily"

The corners of her mouth tugged up slightly as she nodded "Well i'm glad one of us got something out of it"

"Maybe we both will" He smirked and handed her a note that read "Lakeside park, Friday 9"

She took the note and nodded "Maybe we will"

And with that, Emily left and he went back to his friends who were chatting away

"Hey, Derek, you coming with us friday?'

He shook his head "sorry guys, i have to see about a girl"
