My OC, Chloe Brown is a sister of Lavender Brown.Everything was as usual. The Sun was hidden behind the clouds, and light rainfall was filling up the sky. It was another Scottish weather day.
"Mom, where's my green sweater?"
"I think I saw Lavender go out wearing it."
"Lavender?"
She bounced out the doors and caught Lavender, who was walking down a fence by a boy. A high laughter came out from Lavender's mouth as she was scuttling. And there it was worn on Lavender. The green sweater.
"Do I look pretty today?"
"You are, always."
"Ohh, sweet of you."
Lavender smiled as her blue eyes narrowed with joy. She bent to the boy's ear and said,
"You know what? This is actually my sister's clothes. She would never imagine that I am wearing her- Chloe?"
"Go on. Wearing her, what?"
Lavender blinked her eyes unnaturally.
"Oh, was this your clothes? I didn't know that… Should I return it to you? But I have a date with Peter. Right, Peter?"
"Uhh… Chloe? Can she give the clothes back to you later on?"
Chloe smirked coldly at the two young audacious lovers.
"Shut up."
It was her smile that made Peter breathless. She was like a fairy from a tale… or a princess. Onesecond, Peter noticed the words which came out between the pretty lips.
"Wha…what?"
"I said, shut, up."
She politely repeated her words, replying to the question. The smile didn't leave her face yet.
Peter backed off by the shock of mismatch of her beautiful face and cold words.
Lavender was slowly starting to elude Chloe when Chloe's words clutched Lavender.
"Listen, Lavender. There was a tiny miny thief who came into our house just before… I guess I should contact auror or something… Unless I find my 'sweater' back in my room… Enjoy your date."
After finishing her words, Chloe gave a glance to Chloe and walked away.
Lavender stood helplessly, not knowing what to say. She knew that her sister would definitely do it. Chloe would dare even to call auror to punish Lavender for taking her clothes without permission. And the warning was just the smallest punishment Lavender could imagine.
Lavender bit her bottom lip and turned slowly around to Peter.
"I guess I should… return the sweater to my sis."
The date was over like that.
"Chloe… why didn't you just let Livi wear your sweater for one day? She's crying after coming home."
Chloe smiled at her mom.
"Oh, she's just pretending. She was actually boasting that I would never know she was wearing my clothes when I reached her."
"But she is sobbing… can't you show some mercy on her?"
"Mom, then, what about this? I will contact Peter and take her downtown tomorrow and have a joyful time with the three of us. Do you like that? I guess she was crying because she couldn't play today. You know, kids at that age… You know what I mean, right?"
"That's a good idea!"
One second.
"But you know… you are among 'that age' too, right?"
Chloe giggled as she heard something fun.
"Oh, mom, seriously? Are you comparing me with those kids?"
Mrs.Brown flushed into red as she went speechless. Mrs.Brown was rash to say that easily. Chloe and Lavender were only two years different, but the two years of difference have done as much as it could to split them into different figures. In Hogwarts, some people even thought it was a silly joke that Chloe and Lavender were born from the same womb.
Lavender liked getting along with friends and dating with boys. She looked up for pretty clothes in her leisure time and spent hours in front of the mirror making her hair.
But Chloe, Chloe was totally different. She didn't do much of what the girls in that age liked to do. Her focus was on something else. When she talked with people, next second what they noticed was that Chloe was looking at something totally different from their outlooks. Chloe looked into something deeper than that. Internal abilities and talents.
So this separated two girls like heaven and hell.
"How sweet… You think of me as your baby anyway, right?"
Chloe, as usual, gave a chance to retreat the spilled words.
"Yes… That's right."
Embracing the good excuse Chloe had given, Mrs.Brown walked downstairs. The thought about crying Lavender has vanished in her head.
Lavender, who was giving her best to pretend to cry, was wondering why mom is not punishing her sister for making her cry. She thought soft-hearted Mrs.Brown would soon come to soothe her. Mrs.Brown would pet her on the head and tell her that Mrs.Brown has scolded Chloe already, so there is no need to cry anymore.
Lavender cried all night long, not knowing Mrs.Brown already went to sleep early to forget the moment of embarrassment. And next day, on the morning table, she heard that Chloe is going to take her out downtown with Peter with a swollen face!
This was the sisters' war, Lavender trying to get revenge on Chloe for ruining the date in the first place - Lavender has already forgotten all about the green sweater she has stolen. But Chloe again won over her because she avoided any of Lavender's attempts. And even more, Chloe is now going to ruin Lavender's date again!
"I… I don't want to go."
"Oh, really? But I already contacted Peter… He said he will come. Then should I go out with Peter with only the two of us?"
Lavender knew this was a trick. Her sister doesn't date younger boys. Chloe will consider dating younger boys as 'time waste'. And the only possible reason for Chloe to have suggested going out would be to oppress Chloe's dear sister because she 'went too far' according to Chloe. Lavender shuddered as recalling the memory of cold-faced Chloe saying "Lavender? You've done more than I can tolerate." and then punishing her with several creative ways.
But the thing was that… unlike Chloe, who didn't count younger boys as 'date-able men', young boys liked her! It was always like this! Jerome, who she had first fallen in love with, loved Chloe, and so was Louis, and so on! Why should all the boys in the world have to love Chloe instead of her? It was unfair!
And by the remembrance, Peter was not safe either. If he spends time with a girl like Chloe? It's unpleasant to admit, but Chloe would be able to make anyone fall in love with her in one hour!
So Lavender decided.
"I will go out too…"
But so what? This time, Lavender came back home, 'crying for real'. Chloe was the ultimate winner all the time.
I guess some might more relate to Lavender more than to Chloe. Chloe is Slytherin and I don't mean that all Slytherin is so, but she can be quite mean at times.
But I think for characters to be alive, they should have both good and mean sides. Thank you for reading!
