Ah, Beacon Academy for Huntsmen and Huntresses, a rather prestigious — who cares? Although the setting was important, the building and its history mattered little to this tale.
Jaune Arc, the protagonist of this adventure, had managed to fake his way into the academy and on his first day here, his looks caught the attention of Weiss Schnee. And then something went wrong. Perhaps he had come on too strong or something, but she had started playing hard to get on his second day here.
Any and all requests to hang out were coldly shot down. Sometimes he wondered if he had misheard her interest, and if she really didn't like him. However, it wasn't like she had told him to stop. His sisters had told him that some woman liked the chase, and if he gave up, then that meant his feelings just weren't strong enough.
But were they even that strong in the first place? He certainly found her face cute and her body attractive, but her personality could use some work. However, he did occasionally see a smile shatter her frozen mask. Oh, and on the rare occasion, she would giggle like an angel. Just seeing her happy was enough to melt his heart.
Then he realized why her behavior had been so confusing. Weiss was a tsundere. He had heard that term from Mistrali comics and cartoons. She was the type of person who was cold and harsh on the outside, but warm and soft on the inside. So basically, she was just masking her true feelings.
That meant he hadn't been wrong. He just had to keep pursuing a relationship until she was ready to accept. With every day that passed, he was one step closer to getting himself a girlfriend.
"Hey Weiss!" Jaune spotted her walking down the hallway. The frigid glare she sent his way froze his tongue.
"What?" Weiss snapped (snarled) back.
It felt like everything was crashing down around him. There was no way to rationalize the pure, unfiltered anger she was staring him down with. But apparently his mouth didn't get the memo. "Oh, uh, I was just wondering if you had plans for dinner tonight." As he was about to correct himself, maybe play this entire thing off as a joke, he paused as he noticed her face.
A palpable sadness rippled across her features. Her glare softened, and she signed lightly as she pinched the bridge of her nose. "Let's make a deal. If you swear to never ask me out again, then I'll accompany you for one meal of your choosing."
Yeah, it was pretty darn obvious that he had no idea how women's minds worked, but what did any of that matter when he finally got a date? "Deal!" Sure, he was beyond confused that she finally accepted when she had looked like she had been about to murder him.
He almost considered that a certain monthly monster might be involved, but the memory of his sister holding him in a headlock and making him swear to never even think of that topic surfaced in his mind. Apparently, he was just supposed to pretend he didn't notice when a girl was having random mood swings, or else he would get kicked in the family jewels.
"Great, now what did you have in mind?"
A second of silence had passed, and then his brain kicked into hyper-drive. He had locked himself in for a meal tonight, but he didn't have a reservation at any restaurant (as if he could've even afforded a napkin from those places). "It'sss…. uhhh…. A surprise!" Jaune began backing away. "Yeah, that's it is, a surprise. I'll, uh, pick you up at eight and, uh, yeah." He broke off in a mad dash.
Thanks for reading! This is a short story. I will do the next chapter tomorrow.
Think of this as a thanksgiving gift.
