Author Note: It's been over a year since I updated this story but there has been a refresh in my creative spark to write another chapter so here we go.

Chapter 5

Miles took his sister inside before she could stop them. They were followed by Gene and Rachel.

"How did they find him?" Katie asked her brother and sister-in-law.

It was quiet for a few minutes before someone neither Katie, Miles, or Rachel expected to say anything.

"I turned him in. He killed your brother and nephew, Katie." Gene revealed to her. "He killed Ben and Danny. Remember them?"

"Of course, I do. I think about them every single day and that's not going to change but Bass has changed. He wants to make sure that these Patriots pay for everything. They are a part of the reason that the power went out along with your daughter." Katie responded to him. "Bass is not the same man that killed them."

"Get out of my house. I will not have you here defending that murderer in this house." Gene responded to her.

"Woah, Gene. My sister is not going anywhere. If they find out who she is then they will figure me out and your daughter. Both Rachel and I are wanted by them. We need to keep everyone safe. Now that I have to clean up your mess." Miles responded to him before leaving the room.

"Miles, where are you going?" Rachel asked him.

"I am going to come up with a plan to save Bass and your father better not get in the way of that. We need him to stop these guys." Miles said to her before Rachel and Katie ended up following him.

Charlie walked into the room that her grandfather was. She could not believe that he had done that but understood the reasons behind it.

"Grandpa, you need to make it up to Miles and aunt Katie. She loves him and Monore has been a brother to uncle Miles for a long time. I understand why you did it because you thought that you were helping this family but that's not why you did it." Charlie said to her grandfather.

"I know that I do but I can't change the fact that he killed your father and brother." Gene responded to her.

Rachel followed Miles and Katie into another room.

"Okay, you need to tell me why you had a change of heart." Rachael said to her sister-in-law.

"Before I tell you this, please tell me that you won't tell your father. He already thinks that I am siding with Bass and of course that I am but there is a reason that I am." Katie revealed to her. "Bass and I will be parents in a few months. I am pregnant."

"You are kidding right?" Rachel asked her. She was surprised that she would have another baby with that man.

"No, I am not kidding." Katie responded to her.

"I don't really understand how you can have a child with a man that has killed both your brother and nephew along with others." Rachel responded to her.

"Okay, just stop. My sister is able to decide if she wants to have a child or not with Bass. Right now, all that matters is helping Bass get out of the mess that your father has roped him into. I can't leave him in this mess when we need him." Miles responded to her.

"Okay, so what do you want to do?" Rachel asked him.

"Since we know that they are going to try to kill him for these crimes against the Texas government, your father and you might be the ones offered to do it, I was thinking that we could drug him." Miles responded to her.

"Wait you want to drug him. Why?" Katie asked confused about it.

"Because Miles knows that it's the only way to get him out of this mess." Rachel responded to her.

"It's hard for me to think that you will go thru with the plan with how much you hate him. I still need him around to help me take care of this baby." Katie responded to her.

"Katie, listen. No matter how I feel about Bass now doesn't change the fact that I knew him as a good man when the power was on. If you say that he has change, then I will give him that chance to see it. We just can't tell my dad or Charlie about this plan." Rachel responded to her with a sad smile. "It's not like I don't trust Charlie but she was there when both Ben and Danny died."

"I know and I am sorry for that. I don't think that he meant to get anyone killed including Danny and Ben." Katie responded to her.

Charlie came walking into the room right after the conversation ended with Rachel, Katie, and Miles.

"So what is the plan to get Bass out?" Charlie asked her family. After a few seconds of silence, she added. "Come on guys, Let me in and tell me the plan."

A few days later, Katie and Miles walked into the bank where they were holding Bass at. Katie waited for Miles to come back so she could go see Bass.

"Are you okay?" Katie asked her husband.

"That's a loaded question. I just don't understand how Rachel could turn me in like this. I was helping them with the Patriots." Bass responded to her as she sat down next to him.

"Bass, it was not Rachel. It was Gene, her dad. He is still hurt that you killed both Danny and Ben." Katie responded to her husband.

"That was an accident." Bass responded to her.

"I know that it was." Katie revealed to her husband.

"I know that there is no chance for me to see our baby to be born but promise me one thing that you will tell the baby about me." Bass responded to her.

"It's going to be okay." Katie responded right as Miles came into the room. "You just need to trust us."

"You did not promise me what I asked." Bass revealed to her. "I really need you to promise me it."

"I will promise you that I will tell our baby about its father. Listen, I have to go." Katie responded as she got up and gave her husband a hug. "I love you."

"I love you too. I am sorry for everything that I have put you through because of my power-hungry behavior." Bass said to her with a smile. "Miles, I need you to promise me something that you will take care of her and the baby. Don't let anything bad happen to her or the baby."

"Dude, you know I will." Miles responded to Bass before turning his attention to Katie. "I need to talk to Bass about something."

"Okay, I will wait for you outside." Katie said before leaving the room.

"Bass there is something that I need to get off my chest before I leave." Miles revealed to him. "I know where Emma hid your son. If I can get you out of this then I will."

"Okay, I need to know that you will keep that promise." Bass responded to him.

Later that night, it was time for Bass's trial and as Miles expected that Bass would be killed at midnight. He walked into the kitchen to find Rachel making the cocktail with her father.

"Miles, wait. I know that our relationship has taken a hit when I turned in Bass but I want you to know that I still consider you as family. I did not mean to hurt you." Gene revealed to him.

"Gene, I really don't know what to say. You did not only hurt me, but you hurt my sister. I can take a lot but if you hurt my sister then I will make you pay one way or another. I suggest that you go say that you are sorry for my sister." Miles responded to him.

"I will." Gene revealed to him before leaving the room.

Miles waited for him to get out of ear shot to hear them talking.

"Everything ready to go?" Miles asked her.

"Yeah." Rachel responded to him. "I am not doing this for him or Katie. I am doing it for that little one that needs to be protected from the Patriots."

"It was not Katie's idea to lie to you about the baby that she is carrying, it was mine. We needed you to take her in so that way she could be safe. If the rangers had found her with Bass then I would do anything to protect my sister." Miles responded to her.

"I know that." Rachel responded to him. "Is she coming to the courthouse?"

"I don't know." Miles revealed to her. Miles started to hear voices and knew that Rachel's dad had found his sister. "I will be right back."
