Erin sat stubbornly in the passenger seat of Anthony's car.
"Come on, Erin, it's gonna be fine," Anthony reassured her.
Erin sighed, "Just…just give me a minute."
Anthony chuckled, "I don't know what you are so worried about. It's your family not the Spanish Inquisition for crying out loud."
Erin glared at him. "You know how overwhelming my family can be."
"Ahh," Anthony waved a hand at her. "I mean Danny's a pain the ass but mostly they're all fine." He thought about it for a moment and then said, "but if your Dad gets upset I'm outta there."
"What?!"
"Well, he is the Commissioner," Anthony pointed out. "I'm just jokin' with ya, come on," he held his hand out to her.
Erin reluctantly grabbed it and let him pull her out of the car.
She had decided on wearing her plush white cashmere sweater with fitted pants and Anthony was wearing a gray button down shirt and slacks. He continued holding her hand as they went up the walk to the house.
They were greeted by warm and friendly faces and both Erin and Anthony were careful to keep their ring fingers concealed as best as possible. They had agreed to announce their marriage once everyone was seated. Preferrably before knives were raised for the meal.
Abigail caught Erin's eye as they walked in the door and smiled, raising a knowing eyebrow in her direction.
She was the only one who even knew they were "together" but Abigail didn't know of their marriage yet.
They all sat down to eat a delicious roast, and after the prayer was said by Frank Reagan, Erin cleared her throat hesitantly.
"Um…Anthony and I have an…um, we have an announcement," Erin forced her voice to be steady as Anthony gave her a reassuring glance.
Everyone at the table was suddenly quiet.
He found her left hand under the table and squeezed it gently.
She took a deep breath and continued. "We got married…" she trailed off as she raised her left hand with her new sparkling engagement ring Anthony had bought for her.
Anthony held up his ring hand at the same time.
Forks clattered against plates.
Danny looked like he wanted to protest something but was too flabbergasted to speak.
Henry was beaming and looked pleased.
Sean looked shell-shocked.
Jamie was looking around to see what everyone else's reaction was and if they were all as stunned as him.
Eddie was grinning broadly and mouthing "Yeah!" as if she was afraid to actually voice it in case no one else felt the same way.
Abigail's eyes were wide as she glanced at her new husband, the Commissioner to gauge his reaction.
Frank Reagan started choking.
"Oh my gosh," Abigail stood up and started thumping him on the back as Danny and Jamie jumped up to help.
He waved them off, "I'm fine. I'm fine."
He glanced at Erin and Anthony with shock as he finished coughing. "Wow…ok."
Anthony was bracing himself. He still wasn't sure whether the Commissioner was mad, happy, or still in shock.
"Well congratulations!" Henry was the first to say it.
"Thanks Pop," Erin said to him gratefully.
Danny glared at Anthony then looked over at Erin, "Him?"
Erin sighed loudly, knowing the history between her brother and her new husband.
"Anthony, don't pay him any mind," Henry said from down the table. "Danny's just a lonely heart hardhead."
"Hey!" Danny protested.
Frank watched all this with amusement as a smile creeped across his face.
"Good for you two. I'm happy for you both. I wish you had let us enjoy the ceremony with you though."
Erin felt a sense of relief when her father spoke. "Thanks Dad, well we were um…"
Anthony cut in, "We were feeling impulsive," he grinned at Erin. Feeling it was best to leave out the high content of alcohol that was involved in their initially taking their vows.
She smiled at him feeling thankful that he could handle himself at her family's dinner table.
Abigail cornered her alone after dinner as they washed the dishes together, "Erin!" she hissed. "Wow!"
"I know, I know…" Erin nodded. "It all happened so fast," she started laughing and decided to relay the full story to Abigail who held on to her every word.
"Well, to remind you, I called it." She pointed out.
Erin smiled, "That you did."
