Part 6. Reunion
The hospital was quite noisy that night. A group of people affected by a forest fire came for help, doctors and medical staff ran as if stung and were torn between patients. At first, no one paid attention to a young girl in burnt and partially torn clothes who entered the emergency department. Her jacket was smoking, one pant leg was torn to shreds. At the same time, her skin was clean and there were no wounds or injuries on it. She went to the front desk and asked where she could find a doctor. The nurse looked at the girl, trying to figure out what injuries she had and where to send her.
- What do you have? Burns, cuts, wounds? Is there any bleeding?
- no. It's not me who needs help, but my friend. I'll bring him in now. He can't walk - the girl turned around and was about to leave, but the nurse came out from behind the counter and approached her.
- wait. I'll call the paramedics now. What's wrong with your friend?
- He, he fell hard and hit his head in the woods. We were running away from the fire
- Okay, wait here. Where is your friend? The nurse picked up the phone and started dialing
"He's in the car, not far from here. We got a ride
Two orderlies with a stretcher pulled Dean out of the car and took him to the emergency department. Dean felt better, but he still needed help. Obviously, the impact against the wall was so strong that he had a severe concussion. But he is not a doctor, and this was his approximate diagnosis to himself. He saw Sarah, who, holding on to the gurney, helped roll him into the hospital and ran next to him. She stopped only in front of the doors with the inscription: "No trespassing allowed." He hadn't heard very well yet, but he could read from her lips what she had said to him before the glass doors slammed shut behind the stretcher. "Don't worry, Dean, everything will be fine. They will help you here."
Sarah sat down in the farthest chair in the corner of the waiting room. She was depressed. To survive so much in one day. What will happen to Dean? What will happen to her? She wanted to howl, to scream. But she couldn't. A lump stuck in my throat. She saw more and more wounded people being taken to the hospital.
There was a report on TV showing a burning forest, the hearth of which, judging by the reports, continued to grow. The fire chief of the district spoke and said that all possible measures are being taken to localize the threat. Sarah looked and didn't understand why they were lying? What's with the warehouse fire? Didn't people hear the hum of planes and the explosions of incendiary bombs? These questions began to fill her head with a verbal swarm of annoying flies. And she didn't have an answer to most of them. So the long hours of waiting passed, which she spent immersed in her thoughts. Among the pile of thoughts in her head was one that clearly did not belong to her. Sarah shuddered and began to look around, looking for someone who was trying to establish telepathic contact with her. This could only be done by members of her species.
Her gaze darted from one face to another, but she didn't feel that anyone was trying to contact her in any of them. Sarah got up and began to walk around the hall, carefully looking for the one she needed. Fortunately, because of the commotion, no one paid attention to her.
*Voice*: "Get out of here. They'll be here soon."-It was like a flash of lightning in Sarah's brain. She started looking around, but she didn't see anyone. The voice was already very distinct. The voice belonged to a middle-aged woman, it was soft but insistent.
* Voice*: "You see that nurse, a young girl with glasses, who is sorting through folders in the corner. I heard her call. Cops and special agents will be here soon."
Yes, Sarah saw the nurse the voice was talking about, she really stood there and pretended to be looking for some documents. But she felt that this girl was not who she pretended to be. She doesn't look like a simple nurse, more like an agent masquerading as a medical staff. The voice clearly wasn't lying to her. She decided to answer: "Yes, I understand. Who are you? A half-breed? Why are you helping?"
* Voice*: "There is no time to explain. But I've been looking for you for a long time. We need to leave. There's not much time left."
And then Sarah saw HER. She was sitting in the corner, in the same chair where Sarah herself had been sitting a couple of minutes ago. She was a middle-aged blonde with the same blue eyes as hers. She was sitting in a chair and watching her. Her eyes were slightly glistening.
Sarah shook her head slightly, "No, I'm not leaving without Dean. I do not know who you are. But if they come here, you'd better leave too."
* Voice*: "Without you... no. Who is this Dean? Why are you so worried about him? Ah, I see he saved your life. How curious. And I thought people could only torture and track us down. Yes, I have also met good people, but their number is simply negligible compared to those who tried to kill me or somehow take advantage of me. In any case, nothing will happen to him, he is a human being. But you will be captured and put in a cage like an animal. Trust me, I know what it's like." There was such a bitter smile on the blonde's face, and she gave Sarah such photos that anyone who saw it would go crazy. Sarah saw a naked woman tied to a chair in the laboratory in the center of a glass cube, who was poisoned by gas, her body was covered with terrible bubbles, wounds opened, the flesh peeled off from the bones. She screamed terribly, begged for help, but the scientists standing on the other side of the barrier only silently wrote something down in their notebooks and grinned. I saw her being shot with bullets that were officially banned from use. How she is tortured with an electric current of tens of thousands of volts. Sarah looked into the blonde's eyes without looking away. She didn't know what to say. Everything she saw right now, she wouldn't wish that on anyone except those bastards who do such things to them.
- Sarah Parker? Is there a Sarah Parker here? - a young doctor in a white coat and with a stethoscope around his neck stood in the middle of the hall and shouted her name – I need Sarah Parker. I need to tell her something.
Sarah did not fully understand what was happening, it was the first time she heard her name so loudly, and it was pronounced by a person she saw for the first time. Parker's last name wasn't hers, she didn't have a last name at all, just a first name. Maybe they're not looking for her.
- Sarah Parker, there is information about Dean Ashland. - Hearing this, Sarah jumped up and rushed to the doctor. "What's wrong with him?" Is he alive? her voice began to tremble and her breathing became ragged.
"Are you Sarah Parker?"Yes, he's alive, don't worry so much. He has a bruised chest, several broken ribs, severe concussion. In general, nothing fatal. As they say, it will heal before the wedding," the Doctor smiled and wanted to pat Sarah on the shoulder, but when he saw her stern gaze fixed on him when he made a movement with his hand, he immediately pulled away, "Sorry
- When will he be discharged? Can I see him?"
- Oh, yes, we can write it out right now. We have provided all the necessary assistance. I will write you a prescription and my recommendations for further research. Your young man is a very smart guy. I think he will have no problems with the implementation of the recommendations and further recovery.
- Thank you, Doctor, then I would like to pick up my friend. We just need to get out of here.
- Yes, yes, I understand. Of course
Sarah looked at the blonde who was staring at her intently: "Where's your car?"
Dean, Sarah and Eva were sitting in the motel apartment. Dean was lying on the bed and gradually regained consciousness. He was still unwell, but at least now he could walk on his own and was more or less thinking. Hearing also returned, and vision became clearer. Dean slowly got out of bed and limped into the kitchen.
He saw Sarah and Eva sitting at the table and silently drinking coffee. He looked at Eve as if he saw a dinosaur or a dead man. Abbott told me that Eva died when she gave birth to Sarah. She was strangled by one of the half-breeds. But here she was sitting right in front of him.
Trying not to look in her direction, Dean walked on and also poured himself a coffee. He decided not to disturb them, but to sit in the room. He sat down on the edge of the bed and sipped a hot sweet drink. He barely remembered the events of last night. The last thing he remembers clearly is the explosion of the van and how Sarah dragged him. Sipping his drink, he did not notice how Sarah came in and also sat on the bed with her back to him. He didn't know what to say to her after everything that had happened.
- How are you? Sarah was the first to break the silence
- It's all right. Already much better. Biting his lip and literally squeezing out the words, he continued: "Sarah, I am... I'm really sorry.
Turning around, he saw her get up and silently go to the kitchen, turning around, she looked at him
- It's all right. It just so happened, this... no one is to blame. We're leaving soon. Eva knows a safe place, they shouldn't find us there. At least she managed to stay there for a long time. I think you should eat, you've lost a lot of strength.
When he entered the kitchen, he saw that Eva was finishing her coffee. He still didn't know how to contact her or what she thought of him. How she treats him. He tried not to look in her direction, but just walked over and took out a frozen dish from a small refrigerator, which he put to warm up.
"Are you an Abbott student?" The scientist who stole my daughter? – Eva finished her coffee and now just sat at the table.
Dean didn't know how to answer him correctly, he was nervous as hell. There was still a meeting to be had with Sarah's mother, whom everyone thought was dead.
- yes. Abbott asked me to help when I started having problems with funding.
- Sarah told me that you saved her. An act worthy of respect. I'm not used to seeing this from people. – she turned to him and looked at him with a steely expression on her face – we're leaving. Sarah wants you to come with us. But you decide for yourself, this is not your war, man.
- Already mine. When you were spotted on the cameras, they came for me. They tortured me, wanted to find out all the information about Sarah... and wanted me to join them.
- You know, your species will die out someday just from destroying itself. You are so cruel to each other, not to mention the other species. You like to hurt, to destroy. I know that... not all people are like that. But still. You say you were in the lab. Did you see Laura Baker there?
- yes. She did all this to me.
Hearing this, Eva smiled bitterly, thinking something to herself. Then she lifted her face and smiled at Dean.
- There's a phone here somewhere. I need to make a call.
- Yes, on the first floor of the motel. Ask the guy at the reception.
Picking up the phone, he dialed the first number. It was necessary to contact Hastings and warn him of a possible threat. Yes, he had nothing to do with everything that was happening, but he is his best friend from college. Hastings did not pick up the phone immediately.
- Hello? Who is it? Hastings ' sleepy voice came over the phone
"Hastings, this is Dean. Listen, I can't tell you everything right now, there's not much time. I do not know if they will get to you, but be careful, and it's better to go somewhere far away if possible.
- What? Dean, are you all right? You don't answer my emails. I got a call from college and they said that you don't go to class and you're not at home. You don't answer them. What the hell? Hastings was clearly agitated by the state of affairs
- Look, I can't tell you everything. Just be on the alert. Okay? Bye
A pair of tinted cars drove up to the entrance to the hospital, from which two groups of people with guns got out, they began to inspect the hospital in search of their target. Information was received that one of the objects was seen here. After going around the hospital and finding no signs of a threat, they began looking for the agent who gave them the information. The senior of the group approached the nurse, who was clearly frightened by the appearance of armed men without insignia.
- Nurse Angelica Swan. Where is she? The hard voice made her shudder
- I don't know... she was here recently, looking for something in the documents.
Approaching the cabinet with thick folders, the commander examined it, but finding nothing, he moved further down the corridor. Next to the shelves was an inconspicuous door without signs and inscriptions.
- What's there?
- A small room, where we store various household supplies.
When he pressed the lock handle and opened the door, the corpse of a young girl in glasses and a white coat fell out of the room. By all indications, her neck was broken. The nurse screamed and cast a startled glance at the corpse.
- Bravo 2-5, this is Charlie 0-1. The agent is dead. How did you understand me?
It was a sleepless night. I honestly tried my best. I hope you enjoy it. Feel free to write what you think. Always glad to see your comments.
