Just some family fluff set in V5, right after Weiss and Yang arrive in Haven. Enjoy!

Last night when she and Yang went to bed, it was just the two of them in their shared room. So she feels pretty justified in feeling slightly alarmed when she wakes up and notices that there's a second person in the bed across the room with Yang. "Who is that?" she asks sharply, sitting up to glare accusingly at her roommate.

Seriously, Yang, it's rude to bring some stranger home when you have a roommate without telling them!

"Keep your voice down," Yang replies, instead of answering Weiss' question. She yawns widely, seemingly oblivious to Weiss' incredibly justified outrage, but before Weiss can go off on a tirade, she continues. "Relax, princess, it's just Ruby. No need to get all worked up."

"Oh," Weiss mutters, deflating. Now that she's awake and paying attention, that dark head of hair on the pillow next to Yang's does look familiar. But in her defense, she's a bit out of practice with sharing her space with others. And she hadn't heard Ruby coming into their room. "When did she get here?"

"I dunno, sometime last night?" Yang gives her a half-shrug. "I wasn't exactly looking at the clock to check the time."

"I didn't hear her come in," Weiss says, frowning.

"Yeah, well, you were asleep," Yang points out. "And I didn't really see the need to wake you up. I know that you like your beauty sleep."

Weiss ignores the teasing jab. "What's she doing here, anyway? Doesn't she have her own room?"

Yang half-shrugs again. "I don't know, probably had a nightmare or couldn't sleep or something like that. I didn't feel the need to give her the third degree about it."

"And that's normal for you guys?"

"Yeah," Yang says nonchalantly. "Ever since we've been little, Ruby knows that she can come to me for stuff like that, no problem. It's what sisters are for."

Not all sisters, Weiss wants to contradict Yang, but she keeps that thought to herself. She's not sure why this is catching her by surprise so much; she's pretty sure that Ruby and Yang had bunked together a few times back at Beacon, but she hadn't really been paying too much attention to it back then. It's a bit more noticeable now that they're in separate rooms.

And if she's honest with herself, Weiss knows that this kind of casual, comfortable affection between siblings is in sharp contrast to the stark isolation of her family at the Schnee manor. Weiss might have siblings, but that kind of love and care is completely foreign to her. "I see," she says finally, lost in thought.

"Awesome." Yang yawns widely again. "So, is the interrogation over yet? Ruby always needs to sleep in after a rough night, and I could use some more beauty sleep."

"Of course," Weiss agrees hastily. Ruby is still sound asleep, nestled into Yang's side in a way that Weiss would feel was an invasion of her personal space, but Yang seems totally comfortable with. "I'm going to go make myself some coffee. Uh, sleep well."

"Thanks," Yang murmurs, her response muffled against her pillow. "G'night."

Weiss shuts the door quietly behind her and heads upstairs to the kitchen, once again deep in thought. How is it that Ruby always leaves her with so much to think about, even when her partner isn't even awake?
