I do not own Naruto

The story will follow manga canon, only skimming through scenes and events that do not deviate from it. There will be no OP brand new secret jutsu and I will try my best to either stick to canon jutsus (be it manga, anime, book or game) while expanding the scope of how certain jutsu and techniques can be used or countered. Characters will act as close to canon as I can make it

There will be minor changes to canon, most of which will become apparent in the story as they become relevant, but here are the major changes:

-Kawarimi is not a thing: the jutsu is far too powerful and by the time Shippuden comes around is forgotten anyway

-Shadow clones no longer return their memories to the user when dispelled: aside from appearing out of nowhere, this ability is a total hack. With the sheer number of clones Naruto can make and how minor the "mental fatigue" drawback is, canon Naruto should be nearly omniscient. In addition, this ability isn't really utilized except during elemental training which in my opinion should have taken place during the time skip

Hokage's office

Hiruzen Sarutobi put one last stamp on the document in front of him, grinning satisfied at a job well done. He stretched his arms and walked over to the window, looking at the village, at his village.

It was rare for him to finish his daily dose of paperwork so early, perhaps he could spend some time with his grandson? Maybe even have dinner with Naruto… the two kids seem to like each other and Naruto needed to spend some time with his friends. He sighed, contemplating his decisions regarding the young boy. He told him that he would tell him the identity of his parents once he had reached the rank of chunin, but had that been the right move? Sure, the boy had accepted it, but should he perhaps reveal it now that he was a ninja? Should he have let Mikoto adopt the boy? She was a good friend to Kushina, but with Fugaku around… would Naruto's childhood have been any better than what it was? Would that decision have quenched Fugaku's thirst for power or would have it made the coup attempt and the Uchiha massacre even more tragic? Perhaps…

A knock on the door brought his attention back to the present. His secretary opened the door, guiding in a tanned man in his mid-30's wearing black trousers, a dark red t-shirt with long sleeves and a jonin vest. The man's long black hairs were held in a ponytail that peaked from a bandana bearing the leaf hitai-ate. On his back, the man was carrying a scroll half his size. The man stood in salute while smiling at his Kage, his white eyes transuding a sense of calm and satisfaction.

"Hyuuga Risu reporting mission complete, Hokage-sama"

"It's good to have you back, my boy. What do you have?"

Risu pulled a handful of scrolls from his vest and handed them to Sarutobi

"Quite a lot. I managed to recover a total of 27 clan techniques from the ruins of the Fianna clan, all of them B to S rank genjutsu. I was able to locate the summoning contract for the spider clan, but unfortunately a contingency from the newly formed village of Otot beat me to the punch. Some guy with six arms signed it in front of my eyes. Did Jiraya-sama find any information regarding this new village?"

"A few, but nothing particularly useful, I'm afraid. I'll have you informed when we find something noteworthy. Anything else?"

"A few extra details, you'll have my report ready by tomorrow."

Hiruzen nodded.

"In that case, welcome back to the village. I assume you wish to take some weeks off?"

"Actually, Hokage-sama… I was hoping you'd allow me to change department for a while. I do love working in espionage, but after this mission I'm afraid my current persona has attracted too much attention and will need to be changed. If possible, I'd like to be reassigned as a jonin sensei"

Hiruzen blinked

"That's… rather unexpected, Risu. I never thought you'd be interested in teaching."

"I spent the last two years posing as an archeologist. I had to teach a few courses on it to keep up my cover and… frankly speaking, I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. I'd like to try and teach something that I'm actually knowledgeable about."

"That's good to hear. Not many jonins enjoy the role and we're always short-staffed. I can have you look at the most recent graduating class and take your pick among the ones I had to force a jonin sensei" said Hiruzen, ruffling through the papers before handing a few folders to Risu.

"You had to force five jonins to take the role of a sensei? I didn't expect there to be so few requests…" Risu started to sift through the graduating class, before stopping on three files "Well, isn't that an interesting team. The last Uchiha and the Jinchuriki… sensei Hatake Kakashi… Does he still have a 0% success rate for his genin test?"

The Hokage sighed. "Unfortunately. I had to promise him zero interference in his teaching methods, three days weekends and a guaranteed spot as ANBU captain after one year just for the promise to not use another impossible test this year."

Risu whistled "Well, that certainly sounds like someone eager to share his knowledge… Mind if I take over his team?"

the Hokage smiled. "Of course not. I'm actually glad to have one of our few seal masters to teach young Naruto."

Risu scoffed. "My fuinjutsu skills only reach level 7. Can't call myself a master until I reach level 8."

Hiruzen waved off the objection. "Details. But if you wish to take this team I'll let you know that young Naruto has just recently learned about his burden."

Risu nodded. "The Mizuki incident. I've heard of it. The fact that he's already aware makes things a lot easier for me."

"Glad to hear you're already been informed. If that's all I suggest you find Kakashi-kun and let him know of the changes."

Risu saluted the Kage, before disappearing in a shunshin.

Hiruzen unrolled the scrolls the newly assigned sensei just delivered. A few of those techniques sounded rather interesting and he hadn't used any genjutsu in quite a long time…
