"So, what's the plan of attack?"
"Ambush," Link replied as he studied the map before him from every angle. This would be one of the fiercest battles of his life. One wrong move could spell disaster.
Revali sighed, rubbing the bridge of his beak in annoyance. "Okay. So what's the plan?"
Link looked up at him, confused. "Ambush." As far as he was aware, the concept of sneaking up on one's target was a fairly standard concept. The plan should have been especially apparent to an archer.
"Give me something," Revali said, clearly losing patience.
Link pointed slowly toward the map then looked up at Revali. "... Ambush." The Hylian couldn't quite wrap his head around what was so confusing to the Rito. The plan was simple and self-explanatory.
Revali took a deep breath, looking ready to burst. "I understand that part," he replied tightly. "What I'm not following is the everything else part."
Their heads snapped around as the door opened. Urbosa stepped, carrying the supplies they desperately needed. "Good, you're both here. What's the plan?"
"That's what I was trying to figure out," Revali grunted.
Link gestured loosely to the map. "Ambush."
"See what I've been-"
"An ambush? My favorite," the Gerudo replied with a mischievous smile. Link nodded sagely, glad that someone finally understood what he was getting at.
"Wait, are ya guys talkin' battle strategy?" Daruk ambled in as Revali stared at Urbosa in disbelief. "Whatcha got?"
Link grinned at his friend broadly. "Ambush."
Daruk laughed loudly, cracking his neck. "Normally, I prefer the straightforward approach. I want 'em to see me comin'. But this time⦠yeah."
Link looked back at Revali and gestured to the other two. The Rito Champion had made him question his own sanity, but having the other two around to ground him and remind him that he wasn't actually insane helped. And their excitement gave him hope that everything could go without a hitch. Minimal casualties was what he strove for.
And then, he heard it. Rushing to the window and peeking out, Link noticed his target moving in on their position. Turning back, Link waved to his fellow Champions frantically. Daruk and Urbosa dove into hiding, somehow masking their presence expertly while Revali was left standing where he was, looking back and forth between them with pure confusion on his face.
"Hide," Link hissed, gesturing even more frantically as he pressed himself against the wall and made himself as small as possible.
Revali must have finally understood as he cursed quietly and clumsily hid himself just as the latch on the door disengaged.
Trusting that his friends, even Revali, would know the proper time to strike, he focused solely on making sure he could close the distance quickly.
"... And I was trying to explain the differences between Zonai script and ancient Sheikah," Medli said as Mipha opened the door and let them both in. As the Zora Champion turned to shut the door, he lunged for her as he noticed his fellow ambushers leap out of hiding.
"Surprise!" they shouted in unison.
Medli squawked in surprise, sending the bags she'd been holding everywhere.
Mipha also shrieked in surprise, however, Link was on her in a second, wrapping an arm around her to keep her upright while helping her keep a grip on her bags. She leaned against him, breathing heavily as she tried to process through her shock.
Finally, she began to laugh. "What's all this?"
"A hatchday ambush," Link explained with a smile, still holding her.
"A what?"
Revali pointed to Mipha. "Thank you!"
