Chapter 64 Volcano
It's been a month since the Dino Crisis incident with Dr Kirk in prison and his research destroyed to prevent it from getting into the wrong hands.
And since Regina had gotten Pregnant after the mission seeing how happy Korra was with the boys.
Right now Sean was in LA for his presidential campaign.
"Oh this is too much. My Grandson is running for President." Lucifer said to Sean as they were in his penthouse.
"Well, It's better me than Luthor since he's running for it. Besides I can win this hands down with all the good things I do in life." Sean said.
"True enough. Still don't expect Luthor to play nice." Isabella said.
"When has he ever. Besides the fact is I know he's up to something." Sean said.
"You think the Campaign is a means to an end?" Micheal asked.
"Would you be surprised if I said yes?" Sean asked.
"Nope. I've known Luthor since we found you five years ago." Micheal said.
"And my experience he's doing this for a reason." Sean said before the place shook a little for a minute.
"The one downside to living here are those quakes." Amenadiel said.
"Hell." Sean said as Newt came out of hallway running to him.
"She survives a hive of Aliens and yet she's terrified by Quakes." Lucifer said.
"No one likes an Earth Quake period." Sean said.
"Nope. The one downside of this city." Lucifer said.
"Keep an eye on her I wanna see if that quake caused anything." Sean said leaving.
"I thought you had to get ready for speeches?" Micheal asked.
"I do better by acting instead of those. Speeches are mostly all hollow in my view. It's actions that win people over." Sean said.
"I can't argue you with that." Isabella said holding Newt close.
Later
"What in the hell happened here?" Sean asked seeing dead bodies in the park.
"Hey Kid." Mike Roark said.
"Roark. I thought you had time off to spend with your daughter?" Sean asked.
"You know me. I don't like it when idiots work." Mike said making him chuckle.
"Ok so what happened?" Sean asked.
"We got seven dead and on survivor. They hit a steam vent." Roger said.
Sean looked at the bodies seeing some of their flesh burned off.
"Steam doesn't do that." Sean said.
"Sure it does. If it's really hot...Right?" Roger asked.
"No. For one those are burn marks. Steam doesn't do that." Sean said.
"Stan!" Mike yelled getting him down here.
"Hey Kid." Stan said.
"Hows the Campaign coming anyway?" Roger asked.
"Good. Anyway let's focus on this." Sean said.
"This is where the problem is." Mike said showing a map of the area.
"Was." Roger said.
"Not now." Sean said.
"This is your Red Line Tunnel." Mike said.
"Why am I not gonna like this." Stan asked making Sean snort.
"What I want to do is shut down this section." Mike said making them groan.
"Oh, god." Robert said.
"Just as a precaution until we know." Mike said.
"It's better to be safe than sorry and have more lives lost." Sean said.
"Why should we look bad because DWP blew some pipes?" Stan asked.
"Nothing blew down there, Ober. They hit a steam pocket." Robert said.
"The Tunnel walls are five feet of Concrete." Sean said.
"See?" Stan said. "Theres no way theres a threat down there." Stan said.
"Just do it as a precaution. I'll order in extra busses till then and have the tickets priced for free and pay extra for the drivers till we know whats going on. Sound fair?" Sean asked.
"Fine." Stan said.
"Look we just had an Earthquake. Maybe it tore something up. Let's go down there and find out." Sean said.
"All right. If you say so." Stan said.
Later
Sean, Roark and Gator were in some special gear to go down into the tunnels.
"If steam didn't kill those workers off what did?" Gator asked.
"That is what we are gonna find out. By the way where is Herrigan at?" Sean asked.
"Got Promoted to Chief of Police last month after the old one retired." Mike said.
"Emmit?" Sean asked.
"I hear ya." Emmit said.
"Right. We're just now passing where the dead bodies were. We're going further in." Sean said.
"You know most people who run for president don't do work like this." Emmit said.
"I do. Speeches are one thing. Actions speak way louder." Sean said.
"No argument from me." Emmit said.
"What do we have here." Mike said seeing some crack as steam came out.
"Looks like Water and Power got it right." Roark said.
"No...It doesn't feel like that." Sean said as the place shook again.
"Aftershock?" Gator asked.
"No...Thats not it. Subway right against us." Sean said as it started to heat up.
"Whats going on in there?" Emmit asked.
"Look!" Gator yelled looking down seeing Dead rats that were alive a minute ago. "Their cooked!" Gator yelled.
Sean groaned seeing his gear was actually melting.
"We're getting cooked too." Roark said.
"EVERYONE OUT! NOW!" Sean yelled as they ran out as some kind of explosion went off and sealed the room.
Climbing out Emmit rushed to them.
"SHIT! HOT!" Emmit yelled touching Roark.
"That is no steam vent. Those are nowhere near that hot. Get me a Scientist or Geologist down here. I wanna a clear and logical explanation as to what the fuck just happened down there and why it happened." Sean said as he rushed off.
Later
Sean was at Roark's work place.
"Any idea what going on?" Mike asked.
"No." Sean said before they saw Stan arguing with some woman. She was Spanish American with black hair and brown eyes with Medium breasts and a heart shaped butt.
"Now what?" Mike asked.
"You Kruger?"
"Yeah." Sean said.
"Ella Lopez. I'm from CIGS Nice to Meet you." Ella said. (From Lucifer!)
"Careful Kruger. Disagree with anything Miss Lopez says she'll have you City council meetings for a year." Stan said.
"Will you give it a rest." Ella said.
"Knock it off. So care to tell me whats going on?" Sean asked.
"We're not entirely sure just yet." Ella said.
"We ran trains through there all day, No incidents." Stan said.
"Tell that to the seven workers that got killed. There was no steam pockets or anything. That heat was ten times higher than any steam pockets I've seen. It melted our gear." Sean said showing photos of it.
"Wait...The gear melted?" Stan asked.
"Yeah." Mike said.
"So there is something down there we're not seeing." Sean said.
"Unless you got conflicting evidence I can't shut down the trains. You know that." Stan said.
"Look...We'll go in and take another look with more advanced gear in later. Right now...Just keep that section under observation." Sean said.
"Fine." Stan said leaving.
"He's a major ass." Ella said making him snort.
"He just doesn't like it when theres a problem. No one does." Sean said.
Soon the two along with a coworker of Ella's was at the park.
"So what do you think is going on?" Sean asked.
"You're no doubt aware of tectonic plates that when they move cause Earthquakes." Ella said.
"Yes." Sean said.
"Well...When they do they can at times create fissures. And at times Magma can find one of those fissures and rise up through it." Ella said.
"You mean lava." Sean said.
"Yes." Ella said.
"California has no history of Volcanic eruptions or any volcanos period." Sean said.
"Maybe not now. Nature is always changing the Earth every day. And we make it more so because of Global pollution and climate change." Ella said.
"Thats true." Sean said.
"I don't have any solid proof but there is a possibility it could happen. The Extreme heat is my main source." Ella said.
"Well, until you have undeniable evidence I can't do anything." Sean said.
"Thats why we'll go back in the morning to check it out." Ella said.
"You sure?" Sean asked.
"Yeah." Ella said.
"All right. Best of luck." Sean said as he left.
"You like him." Rachel teased making her smirk.
"Who doesn't?" Ella asked.
Next morning
Sean was in his room asleep at his private home in LA.
After telling the others about the situation they decided to wait and see if anything could happen.
Telling them what Ella told them most of the League dismissed the idea a Volcano could actually erupt in the City like that especially Lantern.
Batman on the other hand said that anything could be possible since some Volcanos appeared without warning in the past.
As he continued to sleep he suddenly felt the place shake real hard waking him up.
"AHHHH!" Newt screamed.
"Newt!" Sean yelled as he ran into her room and held her close as the shaking was really intense for a minute before it stopped. "This is why I like Gotham better." Sean said.
"I wanna go home." Newt said.
"I know. Get dressed I'm taking you to the safest place I know in LA." Sean said as he went to his room to get on proper clothes.
Getting in his truck they drove off.
"Come on. Come on." Sean said calling Mike's work number.
"Yeah?" Emmit said.
"Emmit? Wheres Roark?" Sean asked.
"He's heading in now with his daughter. What about you?" Emmit asked.
"Same. Power is out all over the place." Sean said.
"Yeah we noticed. All the freeways are clear though." Emmit said.
"How did you get in so damn quick anyway?" Sean asked.
"Get in? K this is my Life I live for Disaster." Emmit said.
Newt looked at him after that.
"He's joking." Sean said hanging up as he drove to the place.
Thats when the Sewers started shooting up lots of steam.
"Now what?" Sean asked as he looked at the Tar pits.
They were smoking like crazy before spitting up fire balls.
"SHIT!" Sean yelled as he drove off before calling Amanda.
"Sean?" Amanda asked.
"We got some serious problems here!" Sean yelled.
"We know. The Earthquake took out all the power..." Amanda tried to say.
"I AIN'T TALKING ABOUT THE DAMN QUAKE! Theres fireballs shooting out the Tar pits!" Sean yelled.
"What?" Amanda asked confused.
"Looks Ella was right. She said there was a chance a fissure opened up from the last one and Magma is coming through. This proves her theory big time." Sean said avoiding one.
"Your not talking about an Volcano forming in the middle of the Tar Pits are you?" Amanda asked.
"Look at the Satellites and you tell me! SHIT!" Sean yelled as one landed in front of them.
"Give me a projection of the Tar Pits in in LA." Amanda said to her staff as they did showing heavy Heat signatures there.
"Oh this is not good." Amanda said.
"Please tell me a Volcano is not actually forming in the City." Eiling said.
"Get the League. Now." Amanda said.
Sean continued to drive before spotting Roark with some woman.
"Come with me." Sean said picking her up and got out.
"Kid! What the hell is going on?" Roark asked.
"I think we're about to get a Volcano out of the Tar Pits." Sean said before the noise stopped.
"What the?" Roark said.
"What happened? Did it stop?" Newt asked.
Sean narrowed his eyes as the place shook up again.
"Nope...It's about to get a helluva lot worse." Sean said as the glass from the buildings shattered as he covered her.
Looking at the Tar pits an actual Volcano formed and spilled out lava onto the street.
"Oh my god." Roark said.
"DAD!" Kelly yelled.
"Go. I got this." Sean said leaving Newt with the Doctor.
Rushing to the fire truck he kicked out the glass and pulled him out as Roark got his daughter to safety.
"Tell me I'm seeing things." Roark asked.
"No. A real Volcano has actually formed." Sean said as Flash and Kid Flash arrived.
"Whoa." Flash said.
"How the hell did this happen?" KF asked.
"Don't know and don't care. We need to contain this. I don't have my powers right now." Sean said.
"The others are on their way." Flash said.
"Get everyone out of the way." Sean said as the two ran off.
Pulling out his phone he called the others.
"Whats going on down there." Lantern asked.
"Oh just what you dismissed. A fucking Volcano is in the Tar Pits. The Last earthquake must have opened up a line for Magma to flow out." Sean said.
"But thats impossible." Lantern said.
"IT'S CALLED THE ACT OF NATURE! ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE! NOW GET YOUR ASSES DOWN HERE!" Sean roared.
"All right. Relax. We're on our way." Lantern said.
"Good." Sean said as the two speedsters ran to him.
"What do you want us to do?" KF asked.
"Wally. You head to the residential areas and keep any flames from spreading. Louise will be down there to help you. Barry you go to Stan and see if you can help him. There could be trains that got hit and need help,." Sean said.
"Right." They said and ran off.
"Sean, I'm sending my daughter to Cedars with Dr. Jaye. Want Newt to go with her?" Roark asked.
"Yes." Sean said picking her up. "I want you to go with Kelly out of this. I will pick you up when this is all over I promise. Kelly." Sean said getting her attention. "Take care of my sister." Sean said.
"Ok." Kelly said holding her as they drove off.
"They'll be ok." Roark said.
"Ok let's get this done. Lets go!" Roark said as they ran off.
Meanwhile
Flash appeared in front of Stand surprising his crew.
"I figured K would send someone but not a Leaguer." Stan said.
"Others are on the way. Whats going on?" Flash asked.
"Number 4 train, Westbound. On the Red Line outside MacArthur Park. It's not there and the tunnel is 20 degrees above normal."
"Flash." GA said rushing in.
"You two got anyone else with you?" Stan asked.
"Right here." Spartan said with Wild Dog with him.
"Come on let's get moving." Stan said.
Meanwhile
"Lane I need national guard and anything you can send over here. Theres no way all of us can contain this." Sean said.
"I got everything I can on its way to you. We're still recovering from the last invasion from the Sith Empire. Our forces and everyone else's are down 90% since they hit every base we had." Lane said.
"Call in the others then. We need to contain this before it gets even worse." Sean said.
"How can it get worse?" Lane asked.
"I don't even wanna think about it. Just get it done." Sean said hanging up.
Thats when more of the League showed up as Batman dropped down.
"Whoa." Crush said seeing it.
"How did this happen?" Wonder Woman asked.
"Worry about that later. Right now we gotta keep this contained. Wheres Superman and his cousins?" Sean asked.
"They had to deal with something else first." Lantern said.
"All right. Lantern I want you and Diana to keep the Rubble from falling on top of people. Sara you and the Legends help out with the Police and firemen to help keep this contained. Batman and I will coordinate everything else." Sean said as they rushed off.
"You know theres no way we can combat all this on an open street." Batman said.
"We'll have to make do with what we got. Lets get moving." Sean said as they rushed off.
Thats when Sean noticed Roark and the Police tipping over a bus to deflect the Lava as Ella arrived.
"Oh man." Ella said.
"Looks like you were right." Sean said.
"You have got to evacuated the westside." Ella said.
"Thats over a million people. And we're spread thin as it is since that invasion months ago." Sean said.
"I know. But trust me this is gonna destroy everything it touches." Ella said before they noticed a man passed out on the side walk making them rush to him and pull him away.
"Even if I could where the hell am I supposed to send them all?" Sean asked.
"Anywhere." Ella said.
"WATCH OUT!"
Sean looked seeing a Palm tree falling over blocking their path.
Seeing a fire truck ladder he whistled down for them as it came to their level.
"What are you doing?" Ella asked as he put him in the center.
"Getting us out of here." Sean said.
"THE HOSE IS BURNING!"
Sean and Ella were lifted up before going to the right.
"They couldn't go he other way?" Ella asked.
"I'll ask when we get there." Sean said.
"The Hose is burning."
"FASTER! MOVE IT!" The Fire Chief yelled.
"MY FEET ARE BURNING!" Ella yelled.
"Hang on." Sean said as the ladder started breaking. "Oh shit. Hang on!" Sean yelled as they were over it before it broke making Ella scream as they landed on the ground away from it.
"Put him out!" Roark yelled.
"Well, that was fun." Sean said dusting himself off.
Meanwhile
Stan and the others were in the tunnel where the only train unaccounted for was.
"There she is." Stan said seeing the train with red lights behind it.
"This doesn't look good." Spartan said.
"I know. Come on people lets go!" Stan yelled as they rushed in as GA fired an arrow dissolving the door seeing people passed out.
"Their only passed out." Wilddog said.
"Come on let's get them out of here." Stan said.
"Arrow. Come have a look at this." Spartan said making him look under the train seeing more lava coming in.
"Flash! Get everyone off that train!" GA said.
"On it." Flash said using his speed to do so.
Meanwhile
"Wheres Ella?" Batman asked.
"She left to confirm something. She thinks more of it might be under us in the tunnels. Right now we gotta focus on this." Sean said.
"Theres no way we can contain this like this." Lantern said.
Thats when a large amount of trucks arrived.
"Maybe we can." Sean said rushing to Roark.
"Wheres the rest of it?" Roark asked.
"What rest of them? This is it. Everything else is backed up on fifth and tenth."
"It's enough. What I want everyone to do is to build a barrier to keep this stuff from moving any further." Sean said.
"And then what?" Robert asked.
"I sent for water choppers to help cool this stuff off." Roark said.
"We need to do this as a whole group from every angle. One approach is not gonna work. We need to do this together in perfect sync." Sean said.
"Thats where the Keg Rails come in. We hold it back until the choppers arrive." Roark said.
"Think it will work?" Lantern asked.
"It's the only chance we got. Unless Superman and the others show up we can't do anything." Sean said.
"We need to do this and now." Batman said.
"Lets go!" Roark yelled.
Everyone was setting up the barrier to keep the flow of lava from spreading faster.
"You sure this is gonna work?" Crush asked.
"No...But it's all we can do. If we don't stop it here it's gonna head to the homes south of us and burn everything there and leave people homeless for a while." Sean said.
Soon enough the barrier was set up with fire trucks to reinforce it from breaking apart from the force behind it.
"Ok thats it. Save your water." Sean said as everyone turned off the water as it neared them before it stopped showing the barrier was holding.
"Come on. Come on." Lantern said.
"You guys need a hand?" Superman asked as he and his cousins arrived along with several water helicopters.
"All right thats it! Let it out!" Sean yelled as everyone started spraying water as the choppers dropped gallons of it while Superman and the others started cooling it down.
"Looks like it's working." Louise said as the Lava began to harden.
Later
Sean chuckled seeing the Lava fully hardened and cooled.
"Did we just beat this bastard?"
"It looks like it." Roark said making everyone cheer.
Sean's phone then rang as he answered.
"Yeah?" Sean asked.
"How fast can you get to the corner of Wilshire and Wester? We got a serious problem." Ella said.
Later
Ella lifted up a vent as a lot of steam came out as Sean arrived.
"The hell happened here?" Sean asked as he got out.
"I'm pretty sure this is where the rest is coming." Ella said as Sean got a drone out and made it fly down.
"This is so stupid. The City is paying for its arrogance." Ella said.
"Which Arrogance?" Sean asked.
"Building tunnels on an unstable landscape." Ella said.
"Yeah it was a foolish man who built his house upon the sand." Sean said making her smile.
"Matthew 7:26. Favorite among geologists." Ella said making him snort.
With the drone down it slowly spun around.
However Sean widened his eyes seeing the camera showed a large amount of lava zooming right to it and melted it as fire came out of the vent.
"Holy shit." Sean said looking down. "Thats not good." Sean said seeing it move quick.
"Yeah I know. The Tunnel is keeping it super heated..." Ella tried to say.
"No thats not what I mean. The tunnel ends right where we placed all the patients. Including my Sister and Roark's daughter." Sean said shocking her.
Later
"You want us to do what?" GA asked.
"We need to make a trench into the storm drain. That way it will lead it out to the ocean." Sean said.
"So thats why you have a lot of explosives." Flash said.
"Exactly. Police, Demoltion, Fire Fighters and so on are gonna help us out to make this go quicker." Sean said.
"We got a problem though." Ella said showing a map of a hill going down to the patients. "It's not gonna go towards the trench. It is going to go towards the patients." Ella said.
"I can block it from going to them." Lantern said.
"No. It's a continuing flow. And the Blast might disorientate you. We need a solution to fully block it from them." Batman said.
Sean looked around seeing a skyscraper.
"Would that suffice?" Sean asked making them look.
"Please tell me you're not actually thinking of knocking that over." Nate said.
"Well, it is full of steel and concrete. If you wanted to block a flow of Lava...That would do." Snart said.
"I like it." Mick said.
"You would. Get going." Sean said.
"What about me?" Ella asked making him pull out a photo of Newt.
"Find my sister. I left her alone with Kelly Roark and some doctor name Jaye." Sean said.
"I'll find them." Ella said rushing off.
Later
Sean and everyone else were getting everything ready.
"We're good to go in the building." Spartan said as they all rushed out.
"Streets are good." Batman said.
"Everyone set?" Sean asked.
"We're good." Lantern said.
"Roark Start the count." Sean said as explosions began to go off as the Lava came out.
As the explosions went off Sean looked out seeing some little boy come out of the mall.
"Hang on a second! Theres a kid out there!" Sean yelled.
Thats when he spotted Kelly and Newt come out making him widen his eyes.
"STOP THE FUCKING EXPLOSIONS!" Sean yelled as he ran to them as the building exploded.
"AHHH!" Newt screamed as Sean ran to them.
"GET OUT OF THERE!" Sean yelled as the building collapsed.
After the building collapsed it blocked the flow of the lave into the storm drain.
"Sean?" Superman said before a massive explosion went off.
Sean groaned as he blew back all the rubble.
"Your powers work weird you know that?" Kelly asked amused making him chuckle.
"Oh you have no idea." Sean said with the boy in his arms seeing the Lava hit the ocean.
Thats when it started raining making him scoff.
"Really?" Sean asked laughing as did everyone else.
"Father always has weird timing." Amenadiel said flying down.
"Yeah." Sean said.
"By the way just letting you know none of this was natural." Amenadiel said.
"Come again." Sean asked.
"Someone else caused this." Amenadiel said.
"Grendel?" Sean asked.
"Nope...Someone else you hate because he tried to kidnap you not long ago." Amenadiel said making him growl
Later
"So I made a new weapon that made Volcanos. Big deal." Varrick said in a seat at a hearing.
"It is a big deal because hundreds of people are dead. Hundreds more homeless." Sean said.
"Big deal. My weapon works. I call it a perfect weapon to sell. So who wants to start buying. First bid is at a million dollars." Varrick said expecting people to start buying.
"No one is going to buy that and you are under arrest for causing the death of hundreds of civilians and the damage is in the billions of which you will be paying for." The Judge said shocking him.
"But...It works though. How can you not wanna buy that?" Varrick said.
"News flash moron! No one wants to buy a weapon that could in truth put the Earth at risk! You can't just make Magma flow out and expect no consequences. Imagine if a thousand of them went off at the same time." Sean said.
"I'd be rich if that happened!" Varrick said.
"I've heard enough of this. Arrest him." The Judge said as they took him.
"YOU CAN'T DO THIS! I'M RICH! RICH PEOPLE GET AWAY WITH EVERYTHING!" Varrick yelled.
"What a fucking moron." Sean said.
"So whats gonna happen to him?" Lucifer asked.
"The Death Penalty. No one can risk him making mass destructive weapons like that." Sean said.
Later
Varrick was in a cell with a pout.
"I hate heroes." Varrick said.
"Is that so?"
Varrick turned seeing an African American woman.
"Who are you?" Varrick asked.
"Someone who has a vendeta against Waller and her sons and daughter. You see I can get you out of here and make sure you can keep inventing...Provided they don't doom us all."
"Deal...So who are you?" Varrick asked.
"Colonel Hayley. And from this point on you work for Cadmus" Hayley said. (From Supergirl and she's actually equally as bad as Amanda)
Authors Note: Oh wow what a surprise. Now Sean's got a big approval rating for stopping the Volcano and now Varrick is working for Cadmus. Since the Last story didn't involve him as much as the others I needed to make him more involved. Now Next Chapter Crocodile and this is more for Korra.
