So. You might be wondering what the heck this is. Allow me to explain.

Back in 2017, about 6 years ago around this time, I stumbled upon a person named Lillie Pucisse/Lylie Punez in Google Images, well, her art at least. I saw her DeviantArt, and well, I was REALLY fascinated with what she made, especially a certain story thing, oddly enough being Dark Gumball or as we know now as Nightmare-Ball.

And I was soon invested in the wonderous world of the Tawog fandom, which leads me to where I am now. (I'm mostly known as ImaginationStudios8 outside of here) So it was mostly because of Lillie/Lylie's art and story that inspired me to start posting my own art and stuff online. That, and it caused my "Gumball Awakening" as well as edgy middle school me, but that's another whole can of worms.

During this time, I made some Nightmare-Ball fanfiction! Yay?.. Yeah, I made my own versions of the story. With some ideas of my own, and some from the original story. So in honor of the kinda anniversary of what got me here, here we are with a rewrite! But here's the catch.

This is pretty much a mashup of most of the fanfics I made of the story from Google Docs, all 3 to whatever else versions of the original story, and all the other (relevant) continuations I made. This is most DEFINITELY going to have quite a few chapters, so it's a pretty big story. In a way, I'll be finally finishing what I started, which is pretty cool, y'know?

Now here's some disclaimers! This story is only my interpretation of Lillie/Lylie's. It sort of stays faithful to the original, but there's other ideas thrown in. So please don't say something like "oh you're copying her story that's not yours" or whatever. Trust me, I've seen my own fair share of Nightmareball fanfiction on here. So it's fine.

I do NOT own Nightmare-Ball, or some of these concepts from the original. Making that clear.

With all that said, enjoy the chapter.

It was a beautiful Saturday morning in the strange, bizarre town of Elmore. The sun, with its usual grinning face, shined from above, casting its rays onto the buildings and such with a proudness.

The rays shone into the upper window of a peculiar little blue house. Unfortunately, it streamed through onto the bottom of the bunk bed, landing directly on the face of a sleeping, young blue cat.

His eyes snapped open at the feeling of warmth, but he soon regretted so. The feline let out a startled cry as he went blind for a moment, sitting up in pain. Rubbing his poor eyes, he got up from bed, rather annoyed, and walked over to the windowsill. He showed crabbiness. "HEY! SUN!"

The sun looked at him with confusion, not saying a word.

"DON'T SHINE YOUR RAYS IN HERE! SOME PEOPLE ARE TRYIN' TO SLEEP AROUND HERE!" The cat yelled angrily, avoiding direct contact for obvious reasons. His eyes were squinting, adjusting back to normal.

"I'm the sun, I'm supposed to do that." The star replied, a frown on its face.

"It's okay Mr. Sun!" A goldfish with legs appeared by the window, smiling with closed eyes. "Keep being you, Gumball's just grouchy in the morning!"

Nodding, the sun focused its attention elsewhere, happiness returned.

"Dude, seriously? Can't anyone see I'm trying to sleep in?!" Gumball kept his frown, crossing his arms as he glared at the other. "Everyone knows I sleep in on the weekends!"

"Sorry, it's just that you were kind of being rude." Darwin replied, shrugging innocently.

The feline grumbled to that. Finding no point to go back to sleep, he trudged downstairs, his brother trailing behind him. His eyes blinked slowly, as he tried his best not to fall asleep right then and there.

Arriving to the living room, the two walked past Richard, who laid there on the couch snoring. He suddenly woke up with a jolt, startling everyone else. "OH MY GOSH MY SHOW'S ON!"

He was quick to reach the remote, changing it to a Spanish soap opera. Screaming ceased, and he sat there happily. Anais silently rolled her eyes at the occurrence, and went back to reading her book, the young bunny seated at the table in her highchair.

Nicole shared the same expression, as she flipped pancakes on the stove. She soon peeked her head towards the doorway, seeing Gumball and Darwin sitting down. "Morning boys."

"Morning Mrs. Mom!" Darwin greeted. He noticed his brother not saying a word, and promptly smacked him on the shoulder.

"Yeah, morning." Gumball uttered, soon rubbing the inflicted area in slight pain. "Is there anything to eat?"

"Well, I'm making pancakes," Their mother replied, placing some of the mentioned food onto a plate. "want any?"

The younger cat simply nodded, resting his head onto the tablecloth with a sigh. A few minutes went by, and a plate of the warm fresh meal was in front of him, practically kicking his nose with its scent. Sitting up, he dug into it. It did help his mood a little. "Thanks."

Nicole soon joined the children in the room, sitting down with a cup of coffee. "It looks like we're out of milk and other things, so I'll have to go get some this morning."

"Let me guess, dad ate most of it?" Gumball winced as he felt a kick to his shin. "Ow! Darwin!"

Darwin shared his own look of annoyance. "That was rude."

The cat sighed, deciding to just continue eating. "Alright, sorry."

"Anyways," Nicole sipped her drink as she continued. "There's some arcade across the road so I figured you boys might want to tag along to go over there while I shop. Depending if you're up for it."

"Oh that sounds great! We'll go with you!" Darwin replied, before his brother could make a comment.

"Great, then go get dressed when you finish eating." She said.

The two got up from their places, Gumball doing it rather unwillingly, and they went off back to the bedroom. Darwin hummed a peppy tune as he put on his usual green shoes. Gumball, very much still tired, changed into his sweater and gray pants with a lower mood.

'This morning sucks.' The cat thought to himself bitterly. 'Darwin's been so annoying for no reason! For once couldn't he be a little less happy?'

"I'm all ready to go." Darwin glanced over at his brother, smiling. "You done?"

"Yeah yeah, I'm ready too." Gumball responded, walking past him as he descended back down the steps. Thankfully his tiredness was starting to go away. "Let's get going."

They followed their mother out the door, and into her rather small teal car. Shifting slightly in the backseat, the two strapped in, and off the car went. It was a rather silent ride, as nobody could find much to say. Gumball was busy staring out the window, Darwin doing the same while pointing out interesting things going on, to which the younger cat would respond with a noise, usually small generic words.

Nicole noticed the stiff atmosphere, but didn't question it, knowing it was just one of those days that nothing needed to be said really. She soon pulled into the grocery store parking lot, catching the attention of the boys. "Alright, we're here."

Darwin eagerly got out of the car; however, Gumball had stayed for a moment, holding out his hand. "Probably gonna need some quarters, you know he isn't the one with the wallet."

"Right," The eldest cat pulled out a few coins, plopping them into his paw. "Have fun, don't get into trouble."

"We know mom, we know." Gumball promptly left the car, catching up to his brother as they crossed the street. "I got the money."

"Ah thanks!" The goldfish smiled, though didn't receive one back. He frowned, concern seeping in. "..You okay?"

"Yeah I'm fine." The cat's mood soured slightly. He didn't want to deal with this right now. "Let's go in, okay?"

Darwin however stopped him from entering. "Hang on, was it because you got woken up?"

"Ugh! Dude can't you let it go?!" Gumball grew annoyed by this, as he tried to get through. He had no luck. "Fine, it's because you're annoying me alright?! So far all you've done is shoved positivity in my face when I don't want any! I just wanted to sleep but here I am stuck at a run-down arcade having to carry the cash for you!"

The fish had stood there in silence, taking in the words.

Gumball sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. He could feel a regret for saying that. "Sorry. I'm in a bad mood today."

"..It's fine.. No worries.." Darwin shifted his gaze toward the ground, sorrow soon turning to confusion. "What's that?.."

"What's what?" The cat looked toward his direction, eyebrow raising. For a moment, his mood was gone.

A necklace was shoved into a crack on the sidewalk, gleaming in the sunlight. It had a dark purple diamond like gem as its pendent, and looked rather mysterious, yet fascinating.

Gumball shook his head, his tiredness coming back to him quickly. "Meh, it's just a necklace someone dropped, no big deal."

"It's so pretty.." Darwin bent down, examining the jewel, his eyes wide with curiosity and awe. Carefully, he yanked it from its place, now holding it in his fin. "Maybe we can take it home, it could be worth something.."

"No Darwin, we're not bringing it home. That thing looks cursed. Usually spooky objects like that mean terrible curses." The cat opened the arcade door, waiting for his brother to enter in as well. "Come on, let's just go play some games until mom gets back."

The fish only sat there for a moment, before standing up to his feet. He soon placed the necklace above his head, slipping it on. Though he didn't have a neck, it surprisingly fit under his head perfectly. He soon followed the other inside. "Do you think they still have that space game?"

"Which one? There's like tons in here." Gumball replied rather deadpan, as he made his way around the building, looking for something to play. He soon noticed the necklace, his expression changing to that of a startled annoyance. "Dude I told you not to take it!"

"It's just a necklace Gumball, you're overreacting." Darwin shrugged, as he walked alongside him. "I think it's really pretty."

"Yeah well I think it's really going to bring a plague onto us or something."

The fish groaned, rather angrily. "You and your attitude. Why should you care anyways? It's mine!"

Gumball raised an eyebrow, noticing the sudden edge of his voice. That wasn't right. Sure he could annoy him sometimes, but he never seen him like this before, this angry. "..Darwin are you okay?"

"Fine. Why do you ask? Are you going to berate me again like you did earlier?" Darwin stormed off, seeming to go look for a game. For a moment, the jewel flashed a lavender color. Nobody in the arcade had noticed however, all that is except the blue feline.

"Something's off.." Gumball quietly followed him, concern seeping in. By now his anger diminished. What was going on? Did his words really effect his brother that much? None of it made sense.

He found the goldfish at a whacking game, who was seen kicking the machine in frustration.

"Dude no!" The cat quickly tore the other away from it, grabbing him by whatever shoulders he had. "You can't just do that to the games! We'll get in trouble if Larry sees it!"

"It's a dumb game!" Darwin replied angrily, wriggling from his grip. "I don't give any darn what Larry says!"

Gumball refused to let go of him. "What on Earth is going on with you?! I know I was a jerk but this is far too out of left field for you man!"

"I'm fine just leave me alone!" The fish broke free, and was walking the other way towards the exit. He pulled open the glass door with carelessness, the bell on it clanging suddenly as it promptly closed.

"Watterson what on Earth was that?!" Larry appeared beside Gumball, hands on his sides as he gave a rather confused yet miffed look. "Did you two wreck something in here again?!"

"Not this time surprisingly, but I don't know!" The cat replied, as his worry grew. "He just started acting weird the minute he came in! It's like something just made him-"

He paused, for a moment in thought. The necklace emerged in his memory, its shine sparkling in the light. "..That gem! It's gotta be the gem that's making him act like this!"

"..Weird. But whatever, not my problem." Larry shrugged and walked back behind the counter.

Gumball quickly exited the building, however winced as he was suddenly hit with a downpour. The skies were dark, thunder crackling with the rain feeling like a cold shower. He briefly made out the shadow of his brother down the street, as he held an arm above his eyes in order to see through the wet surroundings. "Darwin!"

The fish turned around, his glare intimidating, as the cat caught up to him. "Gumball, I'm going to say this once. Don't follow me. Don't contact me. I'll come home later tonight, okay?"

"What? Darwin what are you talking about? Where are you going? I-" Gumball reached out his paw, but before he could respond, he received a sudden hard smack to the cheek. It stung as he felt it. "Dude?.."

He got no answer. Darwin only walked off, as the thunder continued in the dark sky.
