What you recognize I don't own. Now then this story is based on the ending of the movie and so everything up to the point that I start at has happened as is seen in the movie

Derek makes it to the island, barely and gets to the higher ground and starts to look for his father's remains and eventually finds him as he thought he would, deceased, though it also looked like it had happened more recently then believed

"Oh dad...I love you"

Derek holds his father's remains that he found and the spell of unescapable island was broken allowing Scully to reach Derek in the position he was currently in

"I'm sorry you didn't find better than you thought King Derek"

"Tell Odette that my mother needs to hear about this from her in person, and...get a ship for us and make sure that no one's at the docks when we arrive"

"I'll do so"

While Derek waited he looked around for anything his father might have written and does so, finding out that his father had gotten sick and died only days earlier. Meanwhile in Chamburg Scully found Odette and told her about Derek being fine for the most part

"Scully, if he's injured and needs help"

"It's not the kind of injury you can just wrap a bandage on and wait for it to heal, he found his father's body and..."

"He needs time to heal from the emotional wounds caused by his father's death"

"Exactly"

"I'll tell Uberta that King Max has been found, and then I'll ensure that only Uberta, Alise and I are at the docks when Derek arrives home with his father's body"

"Thank you Queen Odette"

And so Odette finds Uberta and tells her that Max's body had been recovered by Derek

"I see, where...where was he found?"

"On an island that was under a spell, unescapable island"

"I see, I shall make sure a ship is prepared then since I imagine Derek no longer has one and then...then Max will finally be able to come home"

On the island Derek made sure that everything was ready once a ship arrived and eventually he saw the ship come and Derek carried his father to the ship and sailed home and when he arrived he saw just Odette, Alise, and his mother waiting for him and with reverence Derek carried his father in his arms

"Mother...I'm sorry I couldn't bring better news"

"At least...at least he's finally been found and brought home and we can have true closure"

Three days later Max was buried with a ceremony fit for a King as he was with his honor restored

"If only William could have lived to see Max's honor restored, and the truth known regarding his involvement with the pirates, and what happened regarding his journal"

"My father would have rejoiced at such news, he didn't talk about him often, but I know my father missed King Maximillion and never doubted how good a king he was until his death, though he never told me how he died or about the pirate situation"

"Thank you Odette, for letting me know this"

Two years later Uberta finally took notice of the feelings Rogers had for her and a year later the two would marry and remain married the rest of their lives, dying only a few years later withing hours of each other due to injuries sustained in a stagecoach accident

"At least...at least mother wasn't completely alone during her last years of life"

"She took care of you after your father's death Derek, that was what was important to her"

"I know Odette, I know but still, I'm glad she found a new companion to spend her life with before the end, someone who cared about her for herself"

"Indeed"

Derek and Odette would continue to rule for several more years before doing the same thing Uberta had done before and abdicating the throne to Alise who had married Lucas a year before Uberta had married Rogers, and already had twins to care for, finding out about the pregnancy shortly before Uberta and Rogers had died, and though she didn't say anything on the day of her coronation, she revealed soon afterwords that she was pregnant with her third child whom Derek and Odette loved just as much as they had loved the twins. And since they were no longer the rulers of the kingdom they gladly took over the babysitting duties until the two had settled more into their new roles. And when Derek and Odette died when their third grandchild was a teenager they too were given proper funerals due their station with Derek being buried between his mother and father as he had requested after Uberta had died. Rogers would have been buried between Max and Uberta but per Rogers' own request he was buried in a separate area, one that he felt more connected to even though his funeral was just as grand as Max's and Uberta's had been.
