It had been three weeks since they last spoke when Andre attempted a mediation. He tricked them both into meeting in the blackbox after school and sat opposite them like some kind of relationship coach.

"Look, I didn't want to do this. We have all been trying to respect your privacy while you navigate this situation," Andre addressed them. "But as your friend, I feel I need to step in."

"Why?" Beck asked the question that was apparently on both their minds.

"Because I can't sit back and watch you two miscommunicate until you unravel your friendship as well as your relationship," Andre explained his reasoning for getting involved.

"Miscommunicate?" Jade repeated in exasperation. "Andre, he isn't speaking to me at all! He walks out if I enter the room."

"I'm hurt," Beck replied accusingly, looking at her for the first time in weeks.

"Yeah? Well I'm hurt too," she snapped back.

"Okay, this is good. We're talking, we're making progress," Andre cut in. "Jade, why don't you tell Beck what hurt you and how he can make it better?"

"He knows what he did," Jade narrowed her eyes. "And he can make it better by keeping his one-night-stands out of my sight!"

"Alright, Beck your turn. How has Jade hurt you and how can she fix it?"

They both turned to face Beck. He sat there with his arms folded across his chest, his expression blank.

"Say something," Andre encouraged him. Beck refused. He closed his eyes and exhaled in annoyance.

"Bro, now is your chance to tell her how you're feeling," Andre attempted once again to make him talk.

Jade sat back and watched the scene play out with a raised eyebrow. She took a sip of her water. She knew he wasn't going to talk. Not like this.

As predicted, he stood up and walked out a few seconds later.

"Awesome job, Harris," she replied sarcastically. "Remind me to hire you next time I need therapy."

"I'm sorry," Andre apologized. "I really thought he would open up like this."

"By ambushing him?" Jade scoffed, "Give me a break."

"You know him better than me," Andre shrugged.

"Clearly," she replied. She didn't know why she was defending her ex-boyfriend right now or his inability to discuss his feelings. It was something he had struggled with for as long as she'd known him for and she could have told Andre this wouldn't work before he even started.

"Look, I get this is hard. But you two need to try and get over this," he insisted. "You're both being stubborn."

"Andre, have you ever been in love?" Jade scowled at him.

"No, I haven't," he admitted with a shrug. "But if you love him, maybe you should stop sleeping with his friends."

"Oh fuck off, Andre," Jade stood up and followed Beck out. She wouldn't allow him to sit there and make her feel guilty about this when Beck had done the exact same thing to her several times over.
