The Saiyan of the Literature Club
Chapter 3: Explanations
It was the end of the day, however, Monika took him out of the club room to have a talk which Goten assumed was her about to lay into him for taking this 'joke' too far and also having a provocative manga on his phone. They were now by the staircase far enough from the club that they wouldn't be heard. Before Monika could speak, Goten beat her to it.
"Listen, Monika, I know this sounds like a complete load of crap, but I'm not X2! I don't know why I'm here or why no one can hear the real X2, but I promise you I'm telling the truth!"
"Oh, I believe you."
"Monika plea- wait what?"
"I'm saying I believe you. People can change over a short period, but the way you speak, your movements, and how you act. I observed it all. It was as if you were lost like you weren't supposed to be here and you knew it. You know, I shared a different poem with the girls than I did with you. Why don't you give it a read?"
"Okay, sure. I'm just glad you believe me!" Goten smiled before he got back to reading. It was a poem titled A Hole In the Wall. Goten quickly read through it. He noticed that his poem was somewhat similar to his given the fact that they were both about trying to reach someone. He had no idea who Monika was talking about, but he was referring to Trunks. He told him to play the game, so he figured he'd know something about this, and would likely be checking on him by now. He wanted to confirm to everyone outside of the game that he was still alive.
"Huh, that's actually pretty similar to mine." Said Goten.
"Indeed. That brings us to why I brought you out here. Goten, who are you? What are you?"
"Well, I'm a Human-Saiyan hybrid. Do you want me to fly in front of you like I did for Natsuki? I mean humans can do that too if they learn how to control their ki, but I don't think that excuse would fly here, no pun intended. If I go flying around, people will get suspicious, and they might be more believable that I'm NOT X2, but at the same time, it could also cause too much of a commotion if I'm not careful with what I show. I'm willing to let you and the girls know though."
"No, I mean how are you here and where did you come from?"
"Well, I was born on earth of course! And honestly, I don't know how I got here. My friend Trunks told me to play some random game, and it didn't seem that great, but I decided to give it a try anyway. The next thing I knew, I ended up here for some reason, and everyone thought I was X2 while the real X2 was stuck in my phone. Listen, I'm sorry I didn't say anything yesterday, but it was a lot to take in at once. I will try to live as Son Goten because I really don't like the idea of stealing someone else's life especially if that person is right there with me."
"By any chance was this particular game, a dating simulation?" Monika asked.
"Uh yeah, I think? He told me it gets really scary or something, but a dating simulation sounds more cringy than scary, so maybe it's a horror game disguised as a dating sim?"
"You don't know the half of it," Monika murmured while closing her eyes.
"Sorry, I didn't hear that."
"Oh, it was nothing! Now if you'll excuse me, I have somewhere to be. There's something I need to confirm." And with that, Monika left.
"Huh, that was odd. Well, I better take X2 and go."
When Goten got back to the clubroom, everyone was gone except for Sayori.
"Hey Sayori!"
"Don't you Hey, Sayori me. What did you mean you're not X2?"
"I meant what I said. I don't know how it happened, but I ended up taking his place, but I'm not him. My real name is Goten which is why I asked you to call me that yesterday."
"No wonder you were acting so weird! Wait, if you're not X2, and you took his place, does that mean…" Sayori's eyes became teary, but Goten stopped her.
"No Sayori. X2 is not gone, but for some reason, I'm the only one who can hear him. I guess you wouldn't believe me, so I'll just prove it." Goten began levitating."
"Woah! You're like a magician!"
"Was X2 able to do that?"
"Hey, wait to show off to my childhood friend."
"Relax, I'm just trying to prove that I'm not you. Hey, I have an idea! What's something that only you know about Sayori that's not too private?
"Well, we met in kindergarten. I was sitting by myself on a bench and Sayori being the annoying girl she is decided to pester me to play and when I said no, she kept making a pouty face and I just kind of gave in.
"Really? You think Sayori's annoying?"
Sayori began pouting. "Meanie!"
"I didn't say that X2 said that!"
"So, he really is in there!" She exclaimed.
"Hey, don't tell her I said that! She might be annoying sometimes, but I really do appreciate her. She's the most important person to me who isn't a 2d girl. Even as a kid, I was a loner but as annoying as that girl was, I had fun around her. When she begged me to play tag with her and the other kids, I just kind of gave in and before I knew it, I was actually having fun myself."
"So were you two a thing or something?"
"Sayori went red after hearing this. "No, it's not like that!"
"Uh, no. Don't get our relationship confused. Sayori is just a really close friend. We don't see each other that way." Said X2
"Okay, Okay, my bad!" Goten playfully stuck out his tongue before turning to Sayori. "X2 says you met at a playground when you were around 5 years old and you begged him to play tag."
"Of course I did! He looked so lonely, and I couldn't let him sit there by himself! Not to mention he was always so sweet to me! He'd always share his cookies with me!" Said Sayori.
"You looked hungry, and I had an extra cookie from earlier. You spent time with someone like me, so I thought I'd give you a cookie to say thanks. I didn't think you'd get so attached to me." X2 replied.
Unfortunately, his words did not reach her as he simply instinctively spoke back to her only to realize it didn't work. This gave Goten an idea.
"Hey Sayori, why don't we walk home together? I'll act as a translator for X2. For example, he just said you looked hungry and had an extra cookie from earlier."
Sayori smiled. "Sure! I'm so glad X2 is finally making friends."
"I think it's still a bit early to call us friends, right? I mean we barely know each other. We're only around each other because of very specific circumstances. No offense, but I doubt we'd hang out if I still had my body. It's nothing against you personally, it's just… I'm not really a social person."
At this, Goten smiled. "If that's true, then this situation can't be all bad! That means you're going to get the perfect opportunity to make new friends! What do you say we get to know each other?"
"Well, it's not like I have a choice... Well, I guess getting to know you wouldn't be so bad." Said X2.
"GREAT!" Goten exclaimed.
Later…
Goten was walking home with Sayori while holding X2. Goten decided that since he was trapped in a dating simulation, he'd cause a little chaos by making sure things that didn't happen in the game, happened. This was bound to happen regardless, but Goten wanted to make it blatant just in case someone stumbled upon the game he was trapped in. He wasn't planning on doing anything like changing the genre of the game as that would alter the possibility of escaping the game through completing it. Many problems came with beating the game naturally, however. One, he'd feel guilty about faking a relationship with one of the girls just to escape and two, if he did fall in love with one of them, he'd have to say goodbye when he went back.
"So Sayori, it's good to finally walk and talk together as myself. I'm glad X2 is here because I like being me."
"I'm glad I get to know the real you too! I just wish X2 was still here." Said Sayori sadly.
"He is here. I'm the only one who can hear him for some reason, but he's here."
"Yeah, I'm here alright. As sad as my social life was, I miss it. I was fine with just reading manga and playing video games, but now I can't even do that!"
"Well, if it helps, I can buy manga for you, and we can read it together. Just let me know what you like." Said Goten.
"No, you don't have to go that far for me…" Said X2.
"Nah, it's fine. Besides, it's technically your money so I'd basically be like you bought the manga yourself."
"What's he saying now?" Sayori asked.
"Oh, we're talking about buying manga so X2 isn't bored. I can't even begin to imagine what it's like being stuck in a phone, so I'm going to make sure he's entertained, even if it means watching and reading that content." Goten shivered. He was not a fan of the games X2 owned, to say the least and considering what he did in the club room, his manga wasn't much different.
"Oh, come on, they aren't that bad!"
"To each their own, I guess. Oh! That reminds me! If you get your body back, what would happen? People already think I'm you but if we separate, then will it be like two X2s or would people finally recognize me as me?"
"Hehe, that's a funny thought. Imagine two X2s in the literature club. That would be so funny" Sayori altered her voice to imitate a more masculine and emotionless tone. "I can't wait to talk to cute girls."
"I DO NOT SOUND LIKE THAT!" X2 exclaimed. Sayori couldn't hear him.
"Hahahaha. X2 said he doesn't sound like that, but he totally does!"
"Right?" Sayori replied.
"I swear, you're like another Sayori…" Said X2.
"I am?"
"Well yeah, you have the same bubbly personality as her. The only difference is you're into geeky stuff like me."
"So, you're saying I'm like a combination between you and Sayori?"
"No, I didn't mean it like that."
"Hahaha, well anyway." Goten turned to Sayori. "If X2 goes back to normal and people start to recognize me as myself, then I'm pretty sure I'd be homeless. I'll do what I can to help X2 return to normal even if it means that, but I don't really have anyone to turn to."
"Well, you can stay with me for a bit until we figure things out," Sayori suggested.
"Sayori, I appreciate the offer, but I don't know how your parents would react to a guy living with you."
"It's fine! My parents are overseas. Besides, I trust you!"
"Okay, but what about X2? How would he feel about it?"
"Why would I care? If anything, it would be great if Sayori found someone."
Goten noticed that X2 tried to sound casual about it, but he could tell he wasn't happy about the thought. "X2… I'm not planning on getting with Sayori or any of the girls in the club."
"Goten, what are you two talking about?!" She said blushing.
"Wait, why not? You seemed to really hit it off with them and an extroverted guy like you could attract cute girls like them."
"Alright, let's look at this from my perspective. I had a life that I was completely satisfied with before I was sent here. My only real goal is to go home. A romantic relationship with any of the club members wouldn't last because I'd either have to leave them, or I'd be too obsessed with leaving to feel any romantic feelings for anyone. I'm also a fish out of water since I basically just got here. Everything is unfamiliar and I barely know anyone. Sayori was the first person I met here and she thought I was you. Romance is the last thing on my mind right now. My main concern is going back to where I came from so, we can both get our lives back."
"Wait, if that's the case then… What about Monika?" Sayori asked.
"What about Monika?" Goten replied.
"Well not only did you favor her poem over Natsuki and Yuri, but you also had a private talk. You know, that's how rumors start spreading." Sayori teased.
"Nothing weird happened between us. I told her I was somehow sent here after playing a game and she asked me if I was playing a dating simulation. I mean, that was specific, but she wasn't really wrong either. Is Monika a gamer or something? She didn't strike me as the type, but I guess anything is possible."
"I don't think she is. Monika is one of my best friends so I'm around her a lot but she never mentioned video games to me. It is really strange that she would ask you something like that. Well, I guess X2 did play games like that before he turned into a phone. Hehe." Said Sayori.
"Yeah, Monika is the last person who would be a gamer." Said X2.
"Well if you say so… Hey what you said earlier… About the idea of two X2s I mean. That actually gave me an idea!"
"Really? What is it?" Sayori asked.
"Well, I'd really hate to abuse my powers, but if I don't get the amount of food I need, I'm screwed. With my speed, I can move so fast it would be like there are two of me or even more! What I'm saying is I need a job."
"Really? That's so cool! Where do you plan to work?" Said Sayori
"Well to be honest… I don't really know." Goten nervously pats the back of his head. "Even a job that pays well might not be enough for me, so I'll definitely need to look into that."
"Why wouldn't a normal job be enough for you?" Said Sayori.
"Well, this isn't something I'd normally say but because of my very specific circumstances, I'll just be straight up with you. I'm half-human and the other race I'm a part of needs to intake more food than a normal human and when I say a lot, I mean a lot. Like I could clear out my entire fridge in one serving and still be hungry minutes later."
"Jeez, sounds like you have it rough… How did you even survive?" Suddenly X2 had an idea. "Wait a minute. You're a gamer, right?" Said X2.
"Well yeah?" Said Goten.
"Have you ever thought of streaming?"
"Well, no, that never actually crossed my mind. I only ever played games as a hobby."
"It's not for everyone, but if you have a personality people like or if you are really good at a game, then you can make a lot of money from that. Even without your powers, you're an interesting person to say the least." Said X2.
"Well if I can get paid for doing something fun, then I guess that would be fine with me. Okay, I'll do it!"
"Do what?" Sayori asked.
"Streaming games. X2 suggested that I try streaming games. I don't know how well I'll do, but it might be a pretty good side hustle." Said Goten.
"Streaming is pretty popular now. I might have even looked at a few streams myself. Hey Goten, I know finances come first, but will you still have time for the literature club?" Sayori asked.
"Yeah, of course! The literature club is my top priority!" Said Goten.
"Huh? Why? I mean I'm happy about that but if you're really from another world, wouldn't getting back be your top priority?" Said Sayori.
"I couldn't tell you in a way that makes sense and even if I could, you'd have only my word to go off of and it might even be harmful to you if I said anything about it."
"Oki Doki! Oh, I'm home! See you tomorrow and take good care of X2 Okay?" Sayori waved to Goten.
"I will! Bye, Sayori! Said Goten while waving back.
Later that night at X2's house
Goten would start playing one of X2's video games that he gave him permission to play. After all, he wasn't going to start his streaming career without any practice.
It was an RPG that consisted of a male protagonist with a harem of scantily dressed girls.
"This game isn't very fun…" Said Goten disappointed.
"You just don't get the appeal!"
"To each their own I guess. Got any fighting games?"
"Uh yeah, I should have a few in my room.
"Actually, before I do that, I got some errands to run!"
"Okay, you do that."
Goten stepped out of the house and didn't take X2 with him. A few minutes later, X2 got a text from someone he didn't recognize. The only people who ever texted him was his family and Sayori, so it struck him as odd. X2 decided to respond to whoever this was since they knew he and Goten were separate people.
Monika: Hey, is this Goten or X2?
X2: Who is this?
Monika: It's me, Monika!
X2: Thank God! I can communicate through texts! I'm not completely screwed
Monika: Ahaha, so I guess you're X2?
X2: Yeah, that's me. I remember seeing you a few times last year Monika.
Monika: You always kind of kept to yourself but I'm glad we get to talk now!
X2: Wait, how did you get my number anyway?
Monika: "Oh, Sayori gave it to me!"
X2: "That girl…"
Monika: So what do you think about Goten?
X2: Uh, he's alright, I guess? I mean he basically took my life but he said it was out of his control. I'm not happy about it, but I understand that it's not really his fault. Why do you ask?
Monika: "You can say I'm concerned about his situation. What happened to you both doesn't exactly make sense, but I can't imagine either of you are so happy about it. What exactly is it like being stuck in a phone anyway?"
X2: "Well, I'm definitely not happy about it, but Goten seems to be doing fine. I mean why wouldn't he? He gets to be around attractive girls every day and they all seem to like him a lot."
"Does Goten find them attractive? Do you know what his type is?"
"Uh, I don't know. He never mentions girls or romance unless someone brings it up."
Monika: "I see. Well, what's he likes outside of the literature club?"
X2: "We basically just met, but he acts sort of airheaded like Sayori, but he's somehow possibly even sillier. I regularly see him practicing weird poses, and as you probably know, he's not exactly normal, and I'm not talking about his personality."
Monika: "Oh, I'm aware of that. He told me himself."
X2: You'd think he'd hide all this about himself, but he doesn't. It's like he's trying to draw attention to himself but the question is whose attention does he want? I was there when he wrote his poem and honestly, it seemed more like a message to someone distant. When he wrote about a person with lavender hair, the first person who came to mind was Yuri, but Goten denied this. When I asked him who he was writing about, he told me it was someone who could get us both out of our situations and left it at that.
This caused Monika to do some thinking. "His poems made it blatantly obvious that he's trying to contact someone. It's probably someone from his world too since he's pretty much confirmed he played this game even if his mannerisms implied he wasn't sure of the game title. That means…" Monika had the biggest smile on her face as she lay in her bedroom. "He's here! He's actually here! I thought this might be the case, but now that confirms it!" Said Monika out loud before quietly tearing up. When she composed herself, she realized. "So that's why he acts the way he does. It was odd that he'd fly in front of Natsuki and suppose not everyone would want to hide this, but this behavior would add up with his poem. That means he's in the same position as me! …But that also means he's also trying to go back and unlike me, he possibly has people who will try to save him from this hell not that something like that is possible. I know it's selfish, but he's the only thing that's real in this world and without him, things will go back to the way they were before. He's my only chance at a happy life. I'll earn his love and we'll be together forever for all eternity in this game. Just us. There's no need for the others." Monika's smile became crazed, and her eyes appeared lifeless. 'I could just delete X2, but even I don't know what would happen to Goten if I did that… I really don't have much of a reason to delete the girls from the literature club either. At least not yet. Sure, Goten walks home with Sayori, but unlike X2, he's not restricted by the script of this game and he's not as close with her either. Even if I did delete Sayori, X2 would notice, and altering X2's files at all could ruin everything. Still, not being restricted to the script also means he's not restricted to the girls in the club either. Well, if deleting people is off-limits, I know exactly what to do."
X2: Uh Monika? You still there?
Monika: Ahaha, Yes. Something came up. Goodbye X2. I hope we can talk like this again soon!
X2: Okay, bye.
"That was odd. Why is she so interested in Goten anyway? She barely knows me, so I don't she was trying to find a way to help me."
Goten would shortly come back.
"Well, that was fast. Where did you go?"
"Somewhere quiet."
"That's a bit ominous. Well anyway, Monika texted me or rather us while you were gone."
"Really, what did she say?"
"Hold on, let me show you."
…
"Hey, my poses are not weird! They're awesome!"
"…Yeah sure, keep telling yourself that. Where are Monika's messages? Did she delete them?"
"Hey, don't just ignore me!"
"Forget about that for a second! Monika directly texted me about you, and maybe she was trying to get to know her club member a little better because that's the kind of person she is, but she seemed very interested in you."
"Really? What makes you say that? You said it yourself; she's probably just trying to get to know me better since I'm still new to her club."
"Goten… She literally asked me what your type of girl was."
"Okay… I guess that is a bit odd. But maybe she's just curious. I'm sure she probably asks the girls what their type of guy is."
"Dude... I swear you're like a light novel protagonist who's too dense to see that a girl obviously loves you."
"Well, that's the pot calling the kettle black if I've ever seen it."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
Goten stared at his phone with a smug smile. "You know what I mean."
"Uh, no I don't."
"You seemed pretty jealous when you thought I was showing off to Sayori."
"Hey, I was just trying to mess with you a little! Our relationship isn't like that!"
"YeAH SuRE, KEeP TeLLInG YOuRSElF THaT! That's you."
"Real funny..."
Anyway, I don't think it's impossible for a girl to love me, these girls barely know me. You knew Sayori and you already knew Monika from last year who already knows I'm not you. It's not the idea that someone can love me that's hard to believe, it's the idea that someone can find out that I'm another person that's taking the place of someone else, and immediately want to date me. I don't think I did anything to noteworthy either. Does anyone here even know what I look like, or do they all just see me as you?"
"That's a good question. You should ask them what you look like. I know for sure that you obviously don't look like me so if they describe my physical appearance, then we know what they're actually seeing."
"I didn't think I would. Hey, what do you look like anyway?"
"Well, there's a family photo in my room. I took it with my parents before they went back to work overseas."
"Well, do you mind if I see?"
"Sure, I don't see why not."
Goten went to the drawer in X2's room and picked up a photo. As it would turn out, it was the first photo in the booth.
"Woah, you sure seem happy in this picture." Said Goten. X2 had an average build, and his hair was spiky and brown. His eyes were a light brown, and looked like he might have played a sport. He didn't seem like the loner type to Goten."
"Well, it is a family photo. Smiling is a formality when it comes to this thing."
"Well, I don't think that's it. You look genuinely happy in this photo.
"If you say so…"
"Hey so… I was debating on whether or not I should tell you the truth or not but I feel like I should offer you a choice since you're just as effected by this phenomenon as me, if not more."
"Hey, if it can help me get my body back, then you need to tell me. I may be an introvert, but being stuck in a phone all day is torture, even to someone like me."
"Are you sure? I'd be telling you the truth about your world, and it might break your perception of everything you know and love. In other words, it might not be good for your mental state."
"What do you mean the truth about my world? What? Are you some godly entity or something?"
"No, not exactly…"
"Whatever it is, I need to know! It can't be worse for my mental state then being trapped in a phone and not knowing when or even if I will ever get my body back!" Said X2.
Goten let out a heavy sigh. "Okay… Don't say I didn't warn you but the truth is… this entire world is a video game."
"What? Are you kidding me? I don't appreciate you joking around about this!"
"No, I'm serious. It's a game about a literature club with the four girls in it and I guess you're the main character who's supposed to date one of them. I don't really have a way to prove to you that I'm not lying, but that's the truth. You were with me when I wrote my poem, and it was basically me calling out for help outside of this game."
"Are you serious?!"
"Look, I know this is a lot to take in but-"
"My entire life is a lie? Are you saying the only reason I exist is so someone can self-insert themselves into being with cute girls?! Was anything about me ever real?! What about my childhood?! My parents, my entire life! Was none of it real?!"
"For what it's worth, I don't know if this world specifically is fake. Everyone seems so real, and I can do stuff that's clearly not in the script. Why do you think I flew in front of Natsuki? Do you think I just go around showing off my powers for the sake of it? I even mentioned I was half-alien to Monika for the same reason. Well, two reasons actually. The first reason was because I wanted to see how real their reactions would be to someone as out of the ordinary as me. That way, I'd know for sure whether they were following a script. I can say for sure that their reactions were not scripted. The second reason was to… well, it was to contact the people outside. You see, my friend Trunks told me about this game, but I was turned off by it being a dating sim. However, he told me the game got scary and interesting, so I thought I'd check it out since it wasn't expensive. The next thing I knew, my body was dematerialized, and before I knew it, I was being hugged by a girl I never met in my life. I was sucked into my computer screen while playing a game, but this world might just be a real world based on that game."
"T-That's still a lot to take in. To think, my entire life… my future has been looked at by so many people! I might need a moment to process this..."
"You know, I'm surprised you were so quick to believe that. I'd never believe it if someone told me my entire existence was a manga."
"If you were lying, I'd never let you live this down, and don't forget I have access to your search history and could add weird things to it if I ever wanted to."
"Uh, please don't?"
"What you said is unbelievable, but so is some kid taking over my body while I get stuck in a phone. Nothing makes sense anymore..."
"I'm sorry about dumping all that on you, but I didn't want to just leave you in the dark. Also kid? You can't be that much older than me. How old are you anyway?"
"I'm 18."
"Well, I'm 16 and I'm a 2nd year in high school." Said Goten while smiling.
…
"Yep, definitely still a kid." Said X2 teasingly.
"Oh, come on!" Said Goten.
Next day at school.
Goten got up early and remembered he didn't write a poem, so he quickly got started. However, he soon found himself hungry, so he made breakfast to the best of his ability and after he ate, he once again forgot about his poem. When he got to school, he remembered but decided he'd finish it up during lunch or perhaps his study hall. While he was in the hallway, he saw Monika with a group of students who all happened to be popular, good-looking, and highly intelligent. Of course, Monika fit this description well too. While some people might think someone like Monika was too good for them to associate themselves with, Goten was not most people.
"Hey Monika!" Goten raised his hand to wave at the girl. "How's it going?" He said smiling.
A male student next to Monika grits his teeth. "Who do you think you are addressing her so casually?!" He said.
"My name's Goten, but I'm known as X2 here. It's kind of complicated so let's leave it at that."
"Oh, Goten! What a surprise! I didn't expect you to greet me like this out of the blue!" Said Monika.
"Well, why not? We're friends, aren't we? Say, we're you busy? Sorry if I interrupted you. Just thought I'd stop by to say hello."
"Oh, I wasn't busy at all! Did you need something?"
"Well I guess there was one thing I wanted to say to you, but if you're busy, that could wait."
'Is he going to confess?! No… it's too early for that. Wait… Does he know about the things I would have done if he didn't show up? No, it can't be.' Monika thought. Oh, no! It's fine!
"Well I'm not sure if you'd want me to say it in public so is it okay if we go somewhere private?"
'Y-Yes, that would be okay." Hey everyone, I'll be back with you soon!
"Later Monika!" Said one of the girls in that girl.
'Who does that simpleton think he is? Casually talking to my godddess?! He isn't even worth standing in her presence, let alone talking to her!' Said the said the sam male student who was angry at Goten for speaking to Monika.
Later…
Goten and Monika found a room that was not being used and decided to talk there.
"Alright, how do I say this? Monika, I know what you are."
"Ahahaha, whatever could you mean by that?" Said Monika.
"It's no use hiding it. I know the truth, Monika!" He said seriously.
The girl simply sighed. "Y-You're right… I know this is a game… that none of this is real. I went to check if you had a character file the other day, but you didn't! It was just X2!"
"Uh… Monika, what are you talking about?" Goten tilted his head in confusion
"Goten, please stop messing with me! I know you know this is a game."
"What do you mean? I was just going to tell you that I know you're a gamer and there's nothing to be ashamed about! I was going to ask you if you wanted to hang out at the arcade or something, but you were so secretive about it yesterday that I thought you weren't comfortable with people knowing."
"What," Monika said in surprise.
"Why else would you ask me about a dating sim?"
"But you looked so serious! I thought you were angry at me about something."
"Well I just wanted to get the message across that you're fine the way you are. Sayori and X2 may say you're not a gamer but I can spot another gamer miles away from me!" Goten confidently smirked.
"Oh… Ahahaha, I would call myself one but you could say there's one game I'm interested in."
"So, you're a newbie? That's awesome!"
'Hopefully, he forgot what I just said.' She thought.
"You're just like me, aren't you? A poor soul trapped in a video game by some unknown force without any explanation." Goten sighed in empathy.
"Yes. It's been so lonely here, but now I don't have to be!" Monika said tearing up.
"I can only imagine. Being separated from family and friends after all this time… I'm sorry Monika, or whoever you are behind that persona."
"What do you mean?" She said.
"Well, if I can be sent here and everyone sees me as X2, then I have no reason the same thing couldn't happen with you but with Monika. If you don't mind, would you mind giving me your real name?"
"My name is also Monika. What a coincidence! ahaha." She said nervously.
"Well, I guess that's not too surprising. Monika is a common name after all. Hey Monika, I promise to get us both out of here and back to our own world!"
"Goten, I would love that more than anything!" She said smiling.
"Well, in that case, wanna hang out together? You can decide where to go. If we're both in the situation, then we should work together and we might as well get to know each other."
"I would love to Goten!" Said Monika.
The bell rang, and the school day started. It wasn't so different, but people noticed Goten was much more social and was actively asking for help in class since Goten was, a 2nd-year student from a different school in a different world taking the place of a 4th year in this high school, so there were naturally some subjects that Goten didn't understand. This place Goten currently resided in may be based in Japan, but it wasn't actually Japan which is why this school had four years as opposed to three. Of course, Goten didn't know what Japan was, and school systems were different, even in his world so he naturally didn't question it. Despite Goten not knowing certain things that should be obvious to someone in his apparent grade, he was still considered smart since he was able to answer hard questions that were considered difficult. Goten was by no means popular, but more people approached him. Eventually, school ended, and it was time to go to the literature club.
"Hey everyone! How's everyone doing!" Said Goten as he entered the club.
"Hi! Welcome to the literature club! Are you a new member?" Sayori asked.
"Uh, no? I just joined like two days ago. We walked home together, remember?" Said Goten.
"No, I did that with Goten who looks exactly like X2."
"But I am Goten!"
"Hey Sayori, what's up with you? That's clearly Goten." Said Natsuki.
"Sayori, are you alright? Perhaps a glass of tea will refresh your memory.
"Oh come on, I can't be the only one seeing this! The person yesterday had brown spikey hair like X2! He was like a really tall porcupine!"
"…Does this girl seriously think I look like a porcupine?" Said X2, not that anyone but Goten could hear him.
"But now you're like a… a… a hedgehog! You even sound like one!"
"Huh? But a hedgehog isn't that different from a porcupine, and what do you mean I sound like one?"
"You have a different hairstyle and it's black now!" Said Sayori.
"Is something wrong with your eyes? It's clearly brown just like it's been since yesterday and the day before yesterday." Said Natsuki.
"That's not very nice Natsuki," Said Yuri.
"Oh please, you can't tell me I'm wrong!" Said Natsuki.
"Well yes, I will admit I did not notice any significant changes. Perhaps Sayori just had a long day and is unable to fully utilize her senses."
"Wait, how can you two not see this? This is a completely different person! Even his voice is different!" Sayori argued.
"Uh… is it me or did Sayori randomly start seeing you as yourself?" Said X2
"That would explain it." Said Goten.
As the girls were busy debating about whether or not Goten was the guy from yesterday, Monika had entered the room undetected and was sitting in a desk while smiling at the situation at hand.
I never mentioned this on this story but long story short, I'm working with an awful keyboard now. This chapter has been almost finished for well over a month. Anyway, I'll likely be getting a new computer at a random date in December, but the one I'm working with now isn't the best, to say the least. I apologize if there are any major grammar mistakes. If it's really that bad, I'll just come back to edit this more when I have a better computer because my current one makes writing harder than it needs to be. I do have a USB keyboard, but I'd actually have to look at the keys and I'd lose motivation. My computer has more problems than just the keyboard but I won't get into it. The other reason I haven't been posting as much is because I enjoy writing my other story more. I focused more on Daily Life With A Saiyan Teen instead of this story because I have a lot more to work with there. In this story, there's only so much I can add but despite the overall quality of this story compared to my other, I still enjoy writing it. Anyway, I will remind you all that I don't own any of the characters in this story except the unnamed ones and that one guy from the last chapter. I hope you enjoyed it and if you didn't, that's okay too. This story isn't for everyone.
