Welcome one and welcome all to a plot bunny that's been in my head for weeks that I finally wrote out, its a Cyberpunk and Harry Potter cross over. I wanted to try and blend the two worlds together in some type of fuck up harmony I guess, and this is what my brain came up with.
before we begin, know this is just the first draft in the story and a rough one at that, so nothing in this is set in stone as of now, it was just for fun.
but Kingsaxcul now proudly presents to you,
Blood and Chrome
A Cyberpunk story.
On with the show!
In the late 19th century, around the end of the industrial revolution, mankind made a discovery that would change the shape of the world as a whole and would affect the status quo of the world over. That discovery was Magic, and everything changed, seemingly, overnight. The event that led to the mass discovery of magic is known as the "Antarctic Event" where a rogue dark wizard had tried and failed to create his own kingdom in Antarctica using charmed penguins as soldiers and suicide boomers. He would go on to launch attacks with his penguin army against every known magical and muggle government in the world. The attack was too large to be covered up by the once International Confederation of Wizards at the time, which led to the outing of hidden magical communities across the world and for the next fifty years the magical communities would face religious intolerance from the non-magical side of the world, the whole reason for them going into hiding. It wasn't until world war two did the idea of the line that separated magical and non-magical would be changed forever with the rise of Adolf Hitler and Gellert Grindelwald.
These two men would change the face of the world through their actions and tactics on the battlefield, they had folded witches and wizards into their armies to devastating effect. These witches and wizards were tired of the religious persecution they faced day to day for something natural to them, and sought to carve out their own country to be free from it. These tactics were used to great effect and the outlook of the war looked grim, and from the witches and wizards' actions across the sea set off what would have been another round of witch hunts if it not for the actions of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Prime Minister Winston Churchill and the enlisted men and women of the joint military 125th division, better known as, Mage's Light.
While the Prime Minister and the President of the United States calmed their countries and moved them with their words, Mage's Light showed what magical and nonmagical's could do by working together. The 125th division was sent behind enemy lines to disrupt, destroy, and sow chaos in the enemy ranks, and with charmed and enchanted munitions, weapons, and armor along with a whole host of spells and potions combined with the practical know-how of the soldiers, they did just that. Mage's Light would go on to be one of the leading factors in why the allies had won the war, while Hitler and Grindelwald kept their forces separate because of infighting, the allies had worked together for the betterment of all.
After the events of world war two and the fall of the axis powers, the world, both magical and nonmagical, moved forward hand in hand, and in the coming decades worked together to create the greatest invention of mankind, Magitech.
Magitech was the combination of the technological advances of the nonmagical and magical prowess of witches and wizards. While normally back then magic and technology seemed incompatible almost at a base level, that would change with the discovery of Polonium, which with the help of magic, was used as a conductor for magical energy and magic stabilizer for sensitive technologies. While a naturally radioactive element, Polonium could have most of the harmful effects removed through a magical process, once the radioactive effects are removed and the element stabilized magic could freely move through it and could insulate most electronics from ambient Magic found in spell-casting, even direct spell casting in some cases.
With that small discovery, it kicked off a technician Revolution that is still felt to this day in 2074 almost a century later. Because what was once thought of as an impossibility, Nonmagical people benefiting from magical remedies, was now possible and ushered in the age of Cyberware and Magitech.
Missing limbs could be replaced with Magitech limbs that acted and felt as real as the missing limb, blindness could be cured in an afternoon with eyes better than the original, failing organs, Alzheimer's, and other mental degenerative diseases became a thing of the past with the Magitech. Then came the enhancement functions, with arguments to the human body, one can become stronger, faster, smarter, more durable, and able to do things that both magical and nonmagical people alike thought impossible.
With the enhancement of medical technology came the mapping of the magical pathways of the body called Magical Circuits, due to how closely they resembled the circuit boards of computers in the body of magicals, this early screening test was created to find any and all magicals born to nonmagical parents, often called "Gridborns" and any nonmagicals born to magicals, called "Circuit-locked", this is done to help train young "Gridborns" on how to control their magic at the premier magical institutions around the world.
Hermione sighs as she cuts the feed from the net that was being fed directly to her eyes, the screens that hovered like an azure ghost collapse and fall away as she blinks her eyes as the finer details of her parent's office come back into focus. The beige walls, black plastic chairs, and bright TV monitors come into sharp focus as she counts the three waiting customers who had set appointments with her parent's Magitech clinic, or Ripperdoc's to most other people, the low bass of one of her parent's favorite bands were playing through the speakers as she reclined back in the chair that she was sitting on behind the receptionist desk.
The history book she had downloaded was the most updated version they had on record for schools, but nowhere in it did it discuss the problems brought on by Magitech or what society as a whole had become. The biggest problem with Magitech was the radiation that most of it gave off, oh, sure they may downplay it or write off anything that shows up as just random one-off occurrences, but these "Random Occurrences" tend to happen to those who get to many augmentations for their psyche could handle plus the minor amounts of radiation caused perfectly, if a bit too chromed out, people to snap and go on a killing spree before having to be put down by Max-Tac Special Forces, and happened way too frequently for Hermione to call them anything close to random.
Not to mention that no matter what the history books say, Magic and Magitech was not a fix-all for the world's problems. Magic couldn't vanish Polonium or Plastics or anything with even a small piece of it in it, which just caused the landfills of the world to fill up and overflow into cities, or just because countries had stopped all out warfare, didn't mean the private wars between corporations didn't happen all the time, they had an entire section of the history book devoted to the Corpo Wars, as they were called. And don't even get her started on the rampant corruption done in governments by the same corporations and affluent Mage families that had built their wealth on Magitech. But none of this helps Hermione's current problem and research project, she was looking into people like her, the people who were technomancers, Gridborns whose magical circuits had mutated and augmented their existing Cyberware to do things that it naturally couldn't do.
Hermione's problem was her Optical system and neural interface plugs were too good, they were even better the top of the line models when they were at least four years old and she was able to do things in cyberspace that was considered impossible, and in real space, she could access information that she had no way to access, she could tell with a simple scan of someone if they had magic circuits, where they lived, where they worked, if they had any warrants, how much they had in their bank accounts, and what Cyberware they had and what versions they were, just to name a few things, and in cyberspace when she had done a full dive it was like she could do anything she wanted or go anywhere she wanted, she had jacked-out from the feeling and information overload and stuck to a keyboard after that, it was all just too much.
She sighs before leaning forward, resting her cheek on the palm of her hand as she stares out the window, catching a glimpse of a boy running down the sidewalk at a full sprint and seeing the green glow of magic circuits running down his arms past the thick leather of the jacket he was wearing just before she sees a police officer running after him just before the shop's alarm dings as another customer walks in, she fixes a smile to her face as she looks up at the Rocker Boy.
"Welcome to Grangers Grinder, do you have an appointment?" Hermione asks the man with a smile as she wonders if Hogwarts will hold any answers for her.
Officer Inaya Aramite was standing in a side alley in Westminster, peering into the passing crowd as she leaned against the wall waiting for her target to pass by with a frown on her face. He had gotten away from her more times than she cares to admit, he was quick, fast, agile, and seemingly knew the back alleyways of Westminster better than anyone with how easily he could disappear in them. She has been chasing him for almost a year now, she could easily spot him in a crowd her perp always wore the same old Samurai band jacket, not a cheap knockoff either, by the scan she was able to get of it, but one hundred percent real genuine Dragon leather.
"Why the hell are we waiting here of all fuckin places, Aramite?" Bitched her fellow officer and fifteen-year veteran of the London City Police Department and overweight corrupted lard arse, Officer Tony Vent, he was as tall as he was wide, pale skin, with dull brown eyes and a thick dark mustache that had some gray strikes in it and a balding head that he kept hidden under his hat, "We could be waiting in the squad car, not out in this muggy bullshit," He says before wiping his forehead.
"Maybe because if the perp sees a squad car, he would see us coming and then we'd never nab him," Officer Aramite says, her eyes glowing a soft neon blue as she scans through the crowd.
"It's not a perp, it's a fucking kid, don't know why you've got such a hard-on for him either," Officer Vent says and mutters the last part under his breath before out of the corner of her eye she sees Vent's one working brain cell working furiously to straight together two coherent thoughts together, "Oh, I see!" the man says with a lecherous, "You want to take him in for a little private time-" but before Officer Vent could finish his poorly thought out discovery, Officer Aramite cuts him off with a glare.
"Vent, shut the fuck up," Aramite snaps at him, "And get your head out of the gutter you disgusting creep, I want to bring the kid in because he's a truant and probably homeless or an orphan, most likely both, and let's not forget the bag he always has on him that's lined with Polonium so scanners can't get a reading on," she says with a growl, shutting the man up. Honestly, she wanted to help the kid more than anything, it would just be satisfying to finally drag the brat in after he had escaped her so many times.
Officer Aramite turns back to scan the crowd with a frown, Vent grumbling under his breath, not long after he finally shuts his output does Aramite catches a glimpse of her perp during her scan. The ghostly neon green window that normally would show someone's ID, Magitech Registration, bounty, and vital status was all scrambled with no discernable data to be found on it, Aramite knew a really good Netrunner could set something up that could jam LCPD scans, but it takes a lifetime of skill earned through deep and dangerous hacks to do it, not to mention that every time the LCPD's Magitech scanners got upgraded they would have to redo the hack, but the kid she was looking at couldn't be older than twelve, maybe thirteen, no real time to build up a skill like that, there was also the fact the kid seemed to be unclipped and without any Magitech instilled into him.
Aramite quickly tags him with ITT(infrared tracking tag) but like all the times before, the tag fizzles after about two seconds after she tags the brat, she sighs as she pushes herself off the wall, "Come on Vent, move your ass or he's gonna get away, AGAIN," she says before pushing her way into the crowd.
The crack of the plasma arc lighting up was always a sound that relaxed Valkyrie, right next to the sound of burning leaves at the end of a cigarette, none of that synth shit either, but one hundred percent real tobacco, she inhales the smoke and it fills her lungs as she tilts her head back till it hits the wall as she enjoys the nicotine rush to her head. She pulls out the cigarettes from her lips and exhales as she looks down the alley. Trash and homeless vagabonds fill the alley, their target was down the alley and in an old junkie crash pad.
"Fuck chica, I don't know know how you smoke that shit, it stinks to high heaven," Jackie says waving his hands through the smoke.
"You leave me to my vices and I'll leave you to yours, Jackie," Valkyrie says with a smirk before taking another puff, "So, give me the rundown again, Jack, from the top," she says as she puts the cigarettes back to her lips as Jackie rolls his eyes before they light up in an amber light of Magitech.
"Michael Sarcaza, age 26, a former member of the scavs before he went too far off the deep end with the Brain Dances and Blue Glass for even those malditos coños," Jackie spits out the last words as he transferred a live feed of the job to valkyrie's own Magitech optical implants, scrolling past her eyes was Michael's skeleton assault, attempted murder, murder, possession of stolen Magitech, possession of illegal substances, the normal stuff for some scav junkie, "We need to sweep this Brain Potato out, snatch him, and delta, some big wig at ICE is paying us for snagging this Puta for some fuckin reason," Jackie says before cutting the feed as Valkyrie nods and exhales more smoke.
"Alive or dead?" Valkyrie asks, taking another puff of her Cigarette.
"Aliv-" Jackie was about to say before he was cut off by a small body jumping between them, the black leather jacket and messy black hair flashed by in Valkyrie's vision.
"Out of the way Choomba's!" the kid yells as he leaps between the two cyberpunks, as they turn to look as the kid sprints down the street, and they then hear someone else yell from where the kid had come from.
"LCPD, get out of the way!" a woman screams and Jackie steps back to watch the woman run by before he starts to chuckle.
"Think the little Hermano is gonna delta from the lawman?" Jackie asks, turning back to Valkyrie with a grin.
Valkyrie shrugs before flicking his cigarette into the street, "If he's any good, maybe," Valkyrie says dismissively, watching the kid run before turning back to Jackie," but come on let's get this bizz done and snatch this Gonk," she says as she leans down to pick up her M2038 Tactician before laying the shotgun onto her shoulder before turning down the alley with Jackie following after her.
Harry Potter was an odd kid, even by the standards of 2074, for one, he called a shipping container near the port home ever since running away from a beaverville over a year ago, for another, he didn't have any chrome chipped-in, his relatives never bothered to get anything installed in him but would pay for the top of the line chrome for their son, Harry had run away for a lot of reason, that was just the least of it. Harry didn't like to think of his time with the Dursleys and his new life was a big step up from those days with his relatives, he had a room now! He even had a job,...
Sort of.
Wasn't exactly legal, strictly speaking, maybe, probably, most likely wasn't legal.
Harry ran packages for a fixer who was working out of the Mollie club on the east end, he would pick up the package from something the fixer called a "Dead Drop" with an address attached that needed to be delivered discreetly and quietly and Harry would put the package in the bag he was given and he would take the package to the address. Harry didn't ask what was in the package, Harry never peaked in a package, and Harry never asked for the name of the person at the door when he showed up, all he did was ask for his scratch and that's it. Sometimes he got paid by the person at the door and sometimes he got paid by the fixer, it was pretty random but it paid well enough that he didn't have to worry about food, which compared to Beavervilla, was much better.
This morning was no different.
Harry had been minding his own Bizz, walking down the street on his way to a delivery, listing to Samurai off an old holodeck he found in the trash with a set of headphones that were literally held together by rubber bands and duck tape, when out of nowhere a lawman had grabbed him by his jacket and had yanked him back talking about bringing him in, which had confused Harry, because he hadn't done anything…yet.
"Oi, lawman, hands off the jacket, ya Gonk!" Harry yells at the cop as he begins to struggle in the lawman's grip.
"Oh, no you don't brat, I've been after you for weeks!" the officer says, dragging Harry down the street, "And you no get-" but before Officer Aramite say anything else, Harry reaches over and grabs her wrist twisting it, himself, and his jacket around causing her to gasp out in pain before Harry pulls himself loose before taking off down the street, "Hey!" Harry hears the lawman scream as he takes off at a full sprint through the crowd, dodging and weaving around people.
"Shit, shit, shit!" Harry says as he hears the lawman calling for him to stop, but he continues to run, "Got to Delta, and got to Delta now," Harry thinks to himself as he jumps between people hanging out at the entrance of an Alley, "Out of the way Choomba's" he yells before he continues to book it, taking the next corner before taking a sharp turn to cross the street. Harry jumps out of the way of one car before stopping quickly to let another quickly pass him and taking off again, all the while ignoring the hooks and yells of the drivers as he gets across the street and runs down the side of a building. All while the lawman was hot on his heels screaming at him.
Harry quickly takes the nearest corner into an alley, dashing past a woman in a black overcoat before jumping on some boxes and then onto the outside vent for an Air Conditioner, he turns to see the lawman turning the corner and the woman looking at him oddly. Harry quickly presses the palm of his hands to the vent and focuses, his brow furrowed and his eyes closes as he feels a cold jolt run down his arms as static magic crackles under his hands, and from where his palms were touching the vent, thin blueish-green circuitry like lined begin to cover the vent before crawling up to the AC unit a few feet above him causing it to spark and smoke before exploding, filling the Alleyway with black smoke in a rush.
As Harry begins to hear the lawman cough and curse, he takes the opportunity to jump from the vent onto a nearby fire escape, almost missing when he reaches to grab the railing of it, but was just able to and pulls himself up and over before taking the stairs two at a time, hoping to lose the LCPD in the smoke and confusion, Harry reaches the roof in little time and begins to sprint a cross it, jumping venting and sliding over stainless steel units for AC or data storage, but before long he starts to run out of roof as he jumps down a short drop to another section. The roof stops a few feet from the highway that rose above Harry's head, looking down Harry could see one of the supporting columns reach all the way down to the underground, but he could also make out a huge pile of trash, Harry groans before sighing, "Fuck it," he mutters to himself before taking off the backpack and tossing it down the trash pile some fifty feet below.
And that's how Office Aramite found him, standing on the edge of the small three-story ripper doc clinic, the Samurai jackets flaming oni skull biting down on the katana flaps in the wind as a heavy gust catches it, the steel and glass spires of the mega-corporations butter out of the earth creating the skyline of London ahead of the boy as the AV's(flying cars) shoot through the air heading to the city center. The hard light advertisement scrolled up taller and wider than any of the mega-towers as they stretched to the stars above that mankind had long blotted out with light and space debris, from this angle it looked as if the boy was standing on the edge of the futuristic Utopia that Magi-tech had promised so many years ago, and the bloated and rotting pollution riddled dystopia that it had become.
"Stop!" Aramite says desperately, "Kid, listen to me, you don't want to do this, it's not gonna be that bad, just, just step away from the edge, please," the officer asks, putting up her hands gesturing to him to step back off the edge.
Harry turns to look at the Lawman, unable to hear her gasp from under her breath but could see her eyes glow with Magitech scanning him before her brow furrows in annoyance as Harry takes a backwards step off the edge back onto the roof and takes a few steps back.
"That's it, kid, this little chase isn't worth flatlining yourself over," Office Aramite says as she slowly takes a step forward, "The worst that is gonna happen is I'm gonna drop you off with some people who will look after you, okay?" she tells him hoping he wouldn't run away more, but she watches as the boy reaches behind him drawing a combat blade, as he does one of Officer Aramite hands shots to her sidearm, "Dont be stupid kid, drop the knife!" she yells, not really wanting to draw on a kid.
Harry turns back to her and smiles at her, large and bright, "Oh, chill Choombette, this isn't for you, just need another tool for the slide down," Harry tells her, the Officer's face twisting in confusion just before Harry takes off at a full sprint and jumps from the roof, raising the blade high above his head he closes his eyes and focuses once more. In the shadow of the highway, neon light gathers around the blade of the knife, and little beams of light dance around and twist, causing the ghostly image of a longer blade to appear over the original before blueish-green circuitry cast across the blade and turning the neon light into crystal before Harry's feet hit the pillar he stabs down into the reinforced concrete, cutting through it like a hot knife through butter before slicing down as Harry uses it to control his descent into the underground. He leaps off the pillar ten feet from the trash pile, landing in it, the neon crystal blade snapping off in the concrete.
Harry looks up at the lawman who was looking over the edge with a bewildered look, Harry sends her a cheeky smile and a salute before grabbing his bag and taking off again, after all, he had a delivery to make.
She was surprised to see the boy, and she knew without a doubt it was him, the scar on his forehead was the same as it was the night she had craved it into his forehead all those years ago. "But why would Dumbledore let the brat run wild in the streets?" she thinks to herself as she watches the boy leap from the roof before conjuring a blade of hard light to slide down the concrete pillar much to her amusement.
"So, the boy has the daring of his father and the ability of his mother, how…interesting," she thinks to herself as her blue eyes flash scarlet sending a wave of crimson circuits running from her eyes and down her body before she chuckles and vanishes with a crack. She would go after the boy when she was ready, for now, she'd let the boy run around the edge of this rotting world as she prepared for her war once more.
So, What did you think?
was it fun? I didn't want to dive in to the dark parts of the Cyberpunk Genre early in the story but wanted to keep the the aesthetics of the overcrowded cities and trash filled streets with a job or a con around every corner and by the end of this I realize that I created a Shadowrun game,...which I'm okay with.
but like i said at the top, nothing in this is set in stone and when I do actually write the story a lot is probably gonna change.
So, lets go over what won't.
First off we have the main Trio, Harry, Ron, and Hermione. Each come from a different background with different skill sets and those are:
Harry Potter:
Role: Solo
Background: Street kid
Skills: None
Technomagic: Upgrade, Overload, (**##***##***##**).
Hermione Granger:
Role: Netrunner
Background: Corpo
Skills: Netrunning, Quickhacking
Technomagic: Scan, Blackout, Hellhound
Ron Weasley
Role: Techie
Background: Nomad
Skills: Repair, Tinker, Improvise
Technomagic: None.
So, Harry and Hermione would be Technomages, but Ron would be a traditional Wizard who cant use Technomagic like either Harry or Hermione, but thanks to his dad being a pretty famous inventor for a megacorp, he knows his way around artificing tools and can help make and repair a lot of stuff, along with his strategic mind, he'd mostly be playing a supportive role with Hermione.
Hermione is like always our source for information, i could have gone with a media, but i feel a Netrunner fits better with her intelligence in this. Her [Scan] ability is probably her most powerful, she would be able to instantly scan something and depending on what she knows about the subject she is scanning, she will be able to instantly know what it is, Like the officer in this could, but the officer was also connected to the LCPD database, Hermione doesn't need one because she is a living one, but using it too much too quickly would be bad. her [Blackout] ability is pretty simple but devastating if used right, it blinds everything, and i do mean EVERYTHING! be it organic or Magitech, or camera's, everything goes blind for a moment or two, its like a quickhack for meatbags and tech. [Hellhound] is something that she gets later in the story, but lets just say its a bit like a guard dog.
Harry, our best boi, would be a solo, and for those who don't know what that term means, both V and Davis were Solo's, so you can imagine how Harry is gonna be. Harry's ability [Upgrade] would be his bread and butter, what it does is use magic to remove imperfections, increases firepower or sharpen and harden something to such an edge that it cut through stone. [Overload] is the power to cause something to, well, overload with magic, either causing it to short out or just out right fail, his final ability is something i want to keep a secret but it is the reason that the officer couldn't find anything on Harry when she tried to scan him and why her tag outright failed to stick to him.
As many of the fans could tell, V is also in this as Valkyrie so I could actually tag this with the Cyberpunk 2077, and yes she will be a character in the story even though this doesn't take place in night city, Jackie was in this because I wanted him in it for this short story.
Voldemort is not what they seem in this, and they only have two Horcruxes.
