I do not own Naruto.
Unraveled.
She had always followed the strands, the little red strings that tied her to him. She had done this for years, too many to count. Her gentle fingertips brushed over the frayed red string in her grasp. It wasn't quite split, but it was frayed to the point of disrepair, not yet having snapped. She grabbed both sides of the fray and wound them together, tying them in a knot to stop the fray from disconnecting. She looked down at the length of string and sighed. She had lost count of all the knots she had tied to attempt to repair the damage to her red string.
She brushed her finger down the line and her fingers bumped over each one. She was holding on so desperately and she didn't understand why. He had been gone for so long, but she refused to give up hope that he would come back to her. He had been on a mission for a month now and was supposed to be back any day, but he had yet to return. She brushed her fingers over the wounded string once more and a hand grabbed hers and pulled it away from the string.
"You have to stop doing that." he sighed, and she looked over to him. His dark eyes were filled with sadness upon seeing her struggle with her thread once more. "I know, Kiba... I know..." She sighed and he ruffled her hair gently. "If the thread frays, let it snap. Fate will find someone else for you. You can't just keep hurting yourself over some idiot who doesn't pay attention to his thread." he rumbled, and she nodded as she looked back at her thread once more.
It had already begun to fray once more.
"Now come on, Shino is waiting for us for food. You know how he gets." the feral man sighed, and she giggled behind her hand as she nodded. "Yes... I am aware." she said softly, and he offered her a small smile back to her. He would never understand how much he meant to her. He was her best friend and had done nothing but protect her and help her become stronger over the years. She was indebted to him, and he didn't even know it.
She followed him to the ramen shop, and they slipped inside to see Shino waiting for them. "Finally..." the softspoken man huffed beneath the hood of his jacket. He turned to face her the slightest bit and she could see the smallest hint of a smile ghosting over his lips. She knew he wasn't upset with her, neither of them were. They were just hungry it seemed. She smiled at them and slipped to sit between them.
She didn't have to say anything, and her favorite ramen was placed before her, they knew her so well. She leaned down to take a bite and her attention was captured by the tension forming on her thread. She looked down to grab it quickly, but before she could, it pulled taut and snapped beneath her grasp. She bit her lip and her shoulders slumped as she felt the threads unravel in the palm of her hand. She looked over to where her thread had snapped, and the remnants of the other side were burning away.
The soul tie had been severed, and not by her. "Oh... Hinata..." His voice called out to her, and she looked over to see him standing there, unfazed by the pain the severing of the soul tie was causing her. Her eyes drifted down to his hand, where it was linked with someone else's. She knew who that hand belonged to from the gloves alone. She pulled her gaze away from them and tried to focus on her food once more.
She didn't want them to see her cry, because she knew she was going to. She bit her lip a little harder and forced herself to take a bite. "How are you guys doing?" Naruto asked and she couldn't bear the sound of his voice, much less the sight of him right now. Everything about his presence brought her pain. "We were doing just fine." Kiba bit out and Naruto grinned at him. She watched him from the corner of her eyes. He didn't seem to be concerned with the irritated tone coming from the feral man.
It didn't sound any different than the normal tone of his voice either way, but she knew the difference. She could always tell when he was irritated even if no one else could. She reached over and gently patted the hand that was gripping the side of the bar. He seemed to calm down at this and she looked over to Naruto and forced a smile. "I'm doing well today, how are you?" she asked, and he grinned at her.
"I'm doing amazing! Sakura finally said yes!" he said, and she forced a smile once more. "That's wonderful." she whispered, and he seemed to dim his smile some. "Oh... Hinata... I'm sorry... I never answered you..." he said softly, and she shook her head at him. "Don't worry about it... I'll be ok. I promise." she whispered, and he looked saddened. He opened his mouth to speak once more but Kiba stood and grabbed her hand.
"She said she'd be ok. We are going to head out now. You two enjoy your lunch." He said and paid for all of their food, pulling her along with him as he slipped out of the booth. She looked back to see he was still watching her as she walked away. Her eyes drifted to the thread fluttering in the wind and she wondered if he could see it as well. She figured he couldn't, seeing as she could no longer see his thread at all.
She turned and looked to Kiba and Shino and she could see their threads fluttering in the wind behind them as well. Her eyes softened upon seeing this, no wonder they told her to just let it snap. It was less painful to let it snap than it was to continuously try and fix it. She bit her lip once more as the tears tried to fall, but her tears were wiped away gently by a calloused hand. "Don't cry... the fool isn't worth your tears." Kiba sighed and she looked down to the string in her grasp.
It was frayed, but it was trying to fix itself once more. She knew it would fix itself eventually, but it would take time. She brushed her fingers over the frayed edge and sighed. It hurt so much to be rejected without a single word. Without a single thought or consideration for her feelings... She would make it, though. She had to... she had to drown out the pain in any way possible. She looked down at the hand that held hers.
His calloused hand held hers ever so gently and she wondered if he realized how gentle he always was with her. She gently slipped her hand from his as they made their way down the street towards where the Jonin liked to hang out. He slid open the door for her and she looked at him oddly. "Why are we here?" she asked, and he shrugged. "I figured we could use a place that Naruto doesn't like to go." He said and she nodded.
She could handle the bar for his sake.
She slipped inside and instantly all eyes were on them. She offered the teachers in the corner a small wave. They all smiled at her, Kakashi signing his smile with a crinkle of his visible eye. She slipped into a seat by the wall and Kiba slipped in beside her. He tossed an arm over her shoulder and slipped a shot glass across the table. "Drink up." he said with a smirk, his upper lip tugging back slightly to reveal a sharp canine.
She couldn't help but watch him as he downed his own drink. She tore her gaze away from him the moment his gaze landed on her from the side of his eyes. She felt embarrassment creep up at having been caught staring, but she couldn't help it. She wanted to know what he was thinking. She just had to know what was going through his mind right now. He had brought her here in the middle of the afternoon to get away from Naruto and Sakura, which she had appreciated. But she wanted to know why he cared so much about her feelings.
She reached and tugged the little red string from her shirt over her heart and held it out in her hands before her. She saw him do the same with his string and they both stared at their strings in silence for a moment. She had never been able to see his string before, nor had she been able to see Shino's before so she was confused as to why she could see them now. She glanced up to see Shino was hiding his away, as if he didn't want its frayed end to be seen by anyone.
She wondered why he hid it away and didn't want to let it connect with anyone's thread, but she wasn't going to ask him. She didn't want to pry if he didn't feel like sharing. She glanced back over to Kiba and he allowed his thread to fall beside him on the seat, right between them. She reached and grabbed the cup that Kiba had placed in front of her, allowing her thread to fall back to wherever it pleased.
She could feel her thread moving, but she didn't want to look at it. She didn't want to see where it was going in the slightest. She just wanted to see if it would find a link. Perhaps that was what Shino was scared of, his string finding a new link. She turned the cup up to her lips and downed it swiftly. The waitress came over and brought them a bottle of sake and three small cups. She held her small cup out to Kiba and he filled her cup.
She downed it just as swiftly and smiled at him. He chuckled and shook his head. This was common for the three of them. They would all come here and drink away their woes and then they would stumble home in the middle of the night. Tonight, it seemed to be no exception. After about three hours of nothing but drinking and rather enjoyable conversation, they were stumbling down the silent streets of Konoha once more.
Shino held himself well, but Hinata and Kiba were bonded at the hip with his arm tossed over her shoulder and one of hers draped around his hip. She couldn't contain her laughter as he stumbled and took them both to the ground. She clumsily brushed her hair out of her face and looked over to him where he lay in the middle of the road with his head propped up on his hand. He was grinning at her from his place in the dirt and she couldn't help but laugh as she crawled over to him and struggled to get him back to his feet.
She tucked herself under his arm once more and they stumbled down the street once more. "Do I need to escort the two of you home?" Shino asked and Hinata looked up to Kiba, who chuckled and shook his head. "Man, I can find my way home. Pretty sure I can get Hinata home too. You feel free to head home. We will be ok." He said and she nodded to her quiet friend, who sighed and shook his head as he looked over his two friends.
"Just get home safe." he grumbled as he crammed his hands in his pockets and walked off towards his family compound. Hinata could see her apartment off in the distance and she pulled Kiba along behind her. "Come on, Kiba-kun, I can see my home." she said and he leaned his head atop hers. "I love you Hinata-chan..." He sighed softly out of nowhere, and she stopped in her tracks. He just sighed and nuzzled deeper into her hair.
She couldn't have heard him right, could she?
She leaned away from him and he blinked slowly down at her with a goofy grin on his lips. She shook her head and tucked herself back beneath his arm and pulled the larger man towards her apartment. She managed to get him up the steps and he pulled himself off of her. "Goodnight, Hinata-chan." he sighed and she turned to face him. "You don't have to leave tonight if you don't want to. You can stay here and sleep it off." she offered softly and he watched her for a moment then nodded.
"It's better than stumbling my drunk ass home. Mom would whoop my ass." he chuckled as he propped himself up on her doorframe. She giggled as she slipped into her apartment and grabbed him by the hand pulling him in with her. She made her way over to her couch and began setting it up for him to sleep on. He scooped her up in his arms and swung her around in a circle, making her burst out into a fit of laughter. He released her, only to hug her tightly to him and sigh.
"You're my best friend." he sighed as he hugged her the slightest bit tighter. She leaned back away from him and looked him in the eyes. She couldn't help but smile at him in her drunken stupor. She reached up and placed her hands on the inverted triangles on his cheeks, rubbing her fingertips over them before her palms flattened out on his cheeks. His eyes fluttered shut and she couldn't help the tilt to her head. She wondered why he was reacting to her touch this way.
She bit her lip gently and leaned up to meet his lips with her own. She didn't know what had come over her to do this, but she enjoyed the feeling of his lips against hers. Her eyes slipped shut and she started to pull away but his hands found her cheeks and he pulled her right back to him. He deepened the kiss gently before pulling away from her. He wrapped his arms around her and she allowed herself to meld into his embrace. She knew this wasn't going to go any further than just this, and that was ok.
She just needed the comfort tonight. His hands trailed down over her shoulders and down to meet her own hands. He ran his fingertips over the backs of her hands only to link their fingers together once more. She leaned her head against his chest and rubbed her thumbs over the back of his hands from where they were linked. He stepped backwards towards her couch and she followed him. He sat down with a flop and gently pulled her into his lap.
She adjusted herself with her thighs on each side of his hips and she just stared him in the eyes. She leaned forwards and connected their lips once more. She wasn't sure why she was kissing him, perhaps it was because she had thought she heard him say he loved her? No... She knew that wasn't it... she slipped her eyes closed as his lips moved against hers. Perhaps she had been so focused on fixing her thread that she had ignored the wonderful man before her... Yeah... that was true...
She had ignored how he had felt for her...
His lips gently pulled away from hers, only to trail little kisses down her jawline that made her eyes flutter shut once more. He left gentle little nips down the side of her neck before he settled on the nape of her neck leaving a small kiss there before he nuzzled her neck with the tip of his nose, like a little Eskimo kiss. She leaned forward and wrapped her arms around his neck and hugged him tightly. Her fingers trailed up and ran themselves through his hair as she hugged him.
When she pulled away from him, he reached up and drug the backs of his fingers over her cheeks before adjusting her in his lap to be more comfortable and he pulled the blanket over them. She slipped her eyes shut and allowed herself to rest as he held her close. She felt guilty for never realizing he had felt this way for her. She allowed herself to drift off to sleep in his embrace, thoughts of the man before her littering her dreams.
:-:-:-:
For weeks he did nothing but stare at his thread. Ever since that night, it had begun mending the fray, but it had yet to connect. He was selfish, he wanted his thread to connect to hers. He wanted to feel his lips connected with hers once more. He wanted to give his everything to her and he always had wanted this. He loved her with every fiber of his being and he just couldn't keep it contained any longer.
Every time they were around each other anymore he wanted nothing more than to kiss her, the feeling was overwhelming. She would hold his hand sometimes and that alone thrilled him. Perhaps he had a chance with her. He looked down the street and saw her making her way over to him. A deep blush crossed her cheeks the moment he grinned at her and waved at her. Akamaru looked from him to her and whined softly.
"Can it man, I know it's hopeless." he bit out to his canine companion, who huffed beside him. Shino sighed and folded his arms over his chest. "You should just go for it already, the worst she could say is no." he said and Kiba jerked his head to look at him with a blush coating his cheeks. "What the hell do you know man!? That is not the worst thing she could say!" he snapped while waving a fist at the bug user. Shino sighed and shook his head at him.
He looked back to see Hinata was a few feet away now looking at him in confusion. "Um... Shino... Kiba... is everything ok?" she asked softly, and he nodded. "Yeah! Of course, it is Hinata-chan!" he managed, and she tilted her head to look at him oddly, her left hand hovering in front of her mouth as she giggled softly. Akamaru wandered around behind her and nudged her roughly into him. He blushed lightly as Hinata stumbled into his arms.
She stumbled over her words as she looked up at him, a deep red blush covering her cheeks. "S-sorry..." she whispered and he rubbed the back of his head and chuckled lightly. "It's ok Hinata, are you ok?" he asked and she nodded softly as she walked beside him. "So where are we headed tonight?" he asked, trying to break the silence once more. She shrugged softly and kept her gaze on the red string in her grasp. He hated that she always stared at the string lately.
He knew it hurt her to have it ripped from her grasp like that, but he had ripped his own thread because it wasn't connected to hers. He felt sorry for whoever it was connected to, but he had to admit he wouldn't have been able to love them as much as he loves her. Shino had destroyed his thread when they were younger, because he has no interest in romantic involvement with anyone and he explained that multiple times when Hinata asked him.
He pulled his string and noticed it was longer than it was before. He quirked a brow and followed where it was hovering. His eyes widened a fraction when he noticed hers was hovering in the same direction as his. He snapped his head away from her so she wouldn't pay attention to the threads more than she needed to. He crammed his hands in his pockets and looked down to Akamaru who was huffing at him once more.
He rolled his eyes and focused on the trek ahead of them. "I guess we are going to the bar again." Shino sighed and Hinata giggled as Kiba pulled the door open with a huff. "My bad." he grumbled and they shook their heads at him as they walked into the bar. Kiba closed his eyes as the smell of Hinata's hair washed over him. Soft waves of lavender and lilies washed over his senses and instinctively he reached out and tucked her hair over her shoulder.
She turned back to look at him with a soft blush on her cheeks and he scratched the back of his neck nervously. "I'm sorry." he managed, and she just looked down to her fingertips once more. He slipped into a booth beside her, and his fingers brushed over hers, only for her to link her fingers with his for a moment before she pulled them away and fiddled with her thread once more. He sighed as he downed his first drink and she followed suit, watching him from the corner of her eyes.
He wondered why she was watching him so intently, but he didn't mind it one bit. The more her eyes were on him, the less likely they would end up on that thread again. They drank in silence for two hours before Hinata slipped out of the booth and bowed to them. "I think I'm going to go home." she whispered and he watched her for a moment before she turned to leave. "I'll walk you home." he said and he slipped out of the booth as well.
Akamaru followed them out of the bar and Kiba looked down at him. "Go on home man I'll be there later." he said and his canine friend huffed but took off towards the house. He jogged to get caught up to Hinata and she looked over at him curiously. "Thank you for walking me home." she said softly and he nodded. "Of course... I always walk you home." he said and she nodded. "I know... why is that?" she asked and a blush crossed his cheeks.
"Because uh... well I know you can protect yourself but... I just want to make sure you're safe." he said and she nodded. For some reason her mood was completely different than it was a few weeks ago. He wondered what had her so downtrodden this time. "Hinata, are you ok?" he asked and she smiled over at him and nodded. "Of course I am. Why wouldn't I be?" she asked and he frowned at her.
"You just seem deep in thought tonight." he sighed as he ran a hand through his hair once more. He was worried about her. "Do I?" she asked and stopped in her tracks. He watched as she stepped in front of him and turned to face him. She smiled at him and reached both hands out to him. He offered his hands to her in confusion, only for her to place her hands in his and hold them tightly. "I've just had a lot to think about Kiba-kun." she said, and he nodded.
She did a little spin while still holding onto his hands and he just watched her curiously as she pulled herself closer to him. The redness from her cheeks was no doubt from the alcohol. She released his hands and wrapped her arms around his waist, to which he wrapped his arms around her shoulders. His eyes softened as he looked down at her. He loved her so much it hurt, and yet he didn't have the guts to tell her how he truly felt.
Sure, they had kissed multiple times now, but they were never enough to convey how he felt for her. He released her and she held a hand out behind her as she walked away. He reached and grabbed the hand with a soft smile. She pulled him to her home and up the stairs. She let go of his hand and unlocked her door, only to turn and face him with her back pressed against the door. "You wanna come in?" she asked softly, and he thought it over for a second and was going to say no, but she opened the door and stepped inside expectantly.
She held a hand out to him and he grabbed that hand, as soon as he did, she pulled him inside. She wrapped her arms around him once more when she got him inside and he patted her on the head. "I have something to show you." she said as she turned away from him. He was curious as to what it was. She offered her hand to him once more and he took it. This was when he started to feel nervous, she was pulling him into her bedroom.
She pulled a bottle of sake out and handed it to him. He raised a brow at her and she motioned for him to take a drink. He shrugged and did as she requested, but he didn't take his eyes off of her for a second. She slipped off her kjacket and hung it up and he choked on his second swig from the bottle. She was wearing nothing but a see through fishnet shirt under her jacket. He blushed and turned away from her.
"Hinata what are you doing?" he asked and she wrapped her arms around his waist once more. She released him after a moment of fiddling with something, an excited noise escaping her lips. She took the sake bottle from him and took a sip before she handed it back to him. He heard her sit back on the bed and he sighed. He turned to leave but he felt a tugging at his thread. Just a gentle pull here and there.
He looked down at the thread and reached to grab it, but it jolted in his grasp once more. He turned and followed where the thread was leading and his mouth went dry as he took in the sight of her. He slipped his eyes shut and put a hand over them so he didn't continue to look. She was in nothing but a pair of black panties and the fishnet shirt now. He swallowed softly and tried to regain his composure, but the feeling of his jacket slipping off one of his shoulders made him look.
"H-Hinata... you don't want this... not with me..." he said and placed his hands on her shoulders to stop her from pulling the jacket off the rest of the way. "Kiba-kun..." she whispered and held her hands up. He looked in her hands and saw that she was holding his thread. It was no longer short and frayed. He pulled on it and followed it straight to her chest. His eyes widened as he realized what this meant. She... she had chosen him as well...
Her gentle hands pried his hands away from his string, only for it to vanish from sight as soon as she let it go. Her gentle fingers reached up and caressed the markings on his cheeks, only for him to press his lips to hers. The feeling that coursed through him when their lips met this time... it was so much more intense this time. He could barely control himself as he shrugged his jacket off and threw it in her floor.
She pushed away from him and lay flat on her back on the bed. He stood there for a moment admiring her form, before her toes caught the hem of his pants and pulled down on them. He crawled atop her and pressed his lips to hers once more, his sharp canine dragging across her lower lip the moment she opened her mouth. He pulled off his own fishnet shirt and her delicate hands found their way to his chest and began caressing his muscles.
"I want all of you..." she whispered softly, and he nodded. He rolled off of her and out of the bed to pull his pants off. She leaned up to watch him curiously. He felt bashful under her gaze and tried to hide himself from her sight. She crawled over to the edge of the bed and looked up at him curiously before she slipped her lips around the tip. He slipped his eyes shut and allowed her to play with him for a minute before he pressed her back against the bed and found her lips once more.
He slipped a lone finger within her, and she gasped against his lips. "Is this ok?" he asked, and she nodded but said nothing. He carefully slipped another finger within her, and she squirmed beneath him. He knew she had never done this before, so he was trying to be careful with her. "Hinata are you sure..." he asked, and she nodded once more. "Please... I want this..." she whispered, and he nodded as he slipped a third finger inside her, eliciting a gasp from her.
While his fingers were busy pumping in and out of her, he kissed down her stomach and down the curls that rest above his fingers. He dove right in and she clamped her knees onto each side of his head, making him chuckle against her. After a moment of him assaulting her nerves, she cried out and tensed up around him, her thighs trembling around his head. When she relaxed her thighs once more, he looked up to see her chest as it rose and fell rapidly.
He positioned himself at her core and he started to press himself within her, but he looked back up to see her looking at him in fear. He pulled her down closer to him and angled her hips up to him, positioning himself at her entrance once more. "Is this ok?" he asked, and she nodded before squeezing her eyes shut. He leaned down and pressed his lips to hers as he pressed himself into her slowly. His eyes fluttered shut at the feeling of being within her, it was so much better than he had ever imagined.
He pulled his lips away from hers and she bit her lip as she stared up at him. "I'm so sorry if it hurts..." he whispered as he kissed her lips gently. "It doesn't hurt anymore..." she whispered, and he nodded as he pulled out of her causing her to squirm. She quit squirming once he had found a steady pace. He cursed himself internally as he buried himself within her time after time. Her fingers found their way to the back of his neck, and she pulled him down to him to kiss him once more.
His eyes fluttered shut and he felt himself about to cum. He leaned to pull out, but she whispered, "Cum in me." in his ear and he bit his lip and groaned as he released fully inside her. He was panting as he finished, and she stroked his cheeks gently. "God... I love you Hinata..." he managed in between pants, and she pressed her lips to his once more. He kissed her with all the energy he could muster, only for her to hug him to her tightly.
"I'm yours..." she whispered and he nodded. He was never going to let her go after this. She was his and he was hers, all because a thread of fate... Unraveled.
