As you can imagine, knowing what to do in this situation was a rather difficult and daunting task. I didn't even know where to start, I couldn't just go to the police station - I'd be sectioned and immediately locked up in some kind of mental institution and I didn't know the correct savant authorities here like I did in Scotland.
I sigh as I splash cold water in my face, letting my hair loose from its bun as it falls in messy copper curls and waves to the center of my back. A few shorter curls framing my face as I gazed at my tired and pale reflection in the bathroom mirror. As a redhead, I'm pale anyway, comes with the territory but my little visit to the past certainly didn't help. My mind was still riddled with a nasty migraine and I'd thrown up two more times after my initial visit to the porcelain bowl. I was just thankful it was clean.
I got dressed into some more weather appropriate clothing, my thick blue mom jeans rolled up at the bottom to make space for my brown leather ankle boots. They had a thick sole which meant I had a better chance of staying on my own two feet instead of falling arse over tit on black ice. I paired that with a thermal long sleeve Henley and a thick, cable knitted dark green jumper with my long line coat to finish, it happened to be in the same shade as my boots. I'm not a monster.
"Where's my damn hat..."
I mutter as I rummage through my suitcase, finding it, yes you guessed it - at the bottom of the damn thing. I sighed, pulling the knitted beanie on before grabbing my phone and keys as I stepped out the house. My frustration with the door still evident as I struggled to once again get the key in to lock it. I managed after a few minutes, I almost blasted the bloody thing off its hinges but that kinda defeats the purpose of locking it in the first place.
"Hello there!!"
A male voice with a clear Yorkshire accent drifts into my ears, my body turning as I walked down the porch steps to see a middle aged man with a ponytail waving at me from the house across the street. It was times like this I missed home, you wouldn't catch anyone dead greeting another person like this in Scotland. You'd lose your teeth. Or you'd get told to fuck off.
"Mr Bright I presume?"
I say loud enough for him to hear as I walk across the street, my hands in my pockets as I see a blonde girl of maybe sixteen, seventeen years of age leaving the house.
"Oh no need for such formality. Call me Simon."
He extended his hand to me and I politely shook it, my silver eyes scanning his energy as well as his bohemian style choices. I'm putting my bet in now, he's either an artist or music teacher.
"Amy. It's nice to meet you."
"Scottish! How exciting, it's nice to have another Brit around. If you ever have need for a proper cuppa tea, our door is always open."
Interesting, he seemed genuine in that statement. I smiled as his daughter approached, my eyebrows raising as we looked at each other with the silent understanding and acknowledgment of what we both were. I wasn't expecting to meet another Savant around here so easily.
"This is my daughter Sky. I'm sorry to say that you'll need to make your own way to the Benedict's sweetheart, I've been called into the art studio. Seems to be a plumbing issue."
Ha. Called it. Artist.
"Simon..."
She groaned and I smiled, my eyes shifting to look down at her blonde curly hair and large sapphire eyes.
"I'm more than happy to give you a lift Sky. You'll just have to remind me to drive on the right side of the road."
I say in partial joking but also, I needed to remember to do that. I didn't want to cause any accidents. Plus it looked like it was gonna piss down with either snow or rain at any moment.
"That would be wonderful! Thank you so much Amy. Sky can give you a little tour on the way."
I could see his daughter roll her eyes but I could sense she trusted me well enough to drive her to wherever the Benedict's resided.
"Alright then, my dad's car is parked over here. Hopefully it still runs."
Simon gave Sky a quick kiss on the head before he scuttled off. Leaving me and the teenager alone as I unlocked the large Jeep Wrangler. I started to walk to what I presumed was the drivers side until she laughed and cleared her throat.
"Steering wheel is on this side."
She pointed at the other door and I chuckled in embarrassment.
"See, it's a good thing I met you after all."
Sky gives me a smile and she climbs into the passenger seat while I get into the drivers side, the car struggling to start before I glance over at her before looking around to make sure the area was clear.
"Just needs a little..."
My palm pressed against the steering wheel as it glowed orange, a pulse of energy charging the battery before the engine rattled to life.
"Juice."
The teenager grinned brightly at me, no pun intended, her eyes going glassy for a moment as I took that to her communicating with someone telepathically. That means there's more savants around.
"That was awesome."
I smile as I start to drive, Sky directing me while I decide to take a chance and ask her a question.
"You don't happen to know of anyone I could talk to about something of a criminal nature? Involving Savants."
I could feel her reading me, her head tilting as I let her do what she needed to do so she understood I wasn't a threat.
"My boyfriend's family could help, I just told them you're coming in with me. Take a left up this road."
I turned and drove up a dirt track up to a house perched beneath a cable car run. I imagine that means they handle the ski lifts when it's the season. Not that you'd catch me dead on the slopes. I stopped the engine and lifted my barriers, knowing full well that being in a house full of savants meant the energy would be off the damn charts.
"I'm guessing your ability allows you to read me better than most?"
I ask her as we walk toward the door, it immediately opening as she rushes forward, ignoring my question while jumping into a tall and muscular Hispanic boys arms, his hair messy, his eyes a surprising shade of blue maybe even green. She was so short in comparison, it was actually rather adorable.
"Sky said you needed help with something?"
He spoke in a low tone, my head nodding as he gestured me to follow him inside. My boots scuffing the door mat as I was led into a large living area, the fire lit. It felt incredibly welcoming.
"This is Zed by the way."
Sky beamed, my head giving him a nod in greeting as I suddenly felt the energy in the room surge. My head spinning slightly as I placed my hand on the fireplace to steady myself.
"Good morning my name is Saul, Sky here tells us you're in need of assistance? My son Trace and Victor are more than happy to help, as are the rest of us."
I looked at this large man of clear Native American decent. My gaze shifting a few more younger men filtered in, his sons no doubt. Jesus Christ this family was ridiculously beautiful, I almost felt intimidated by it.
"You can trust them."
Sky whispered from beside me, I guess my emotions are visible to her. What a fascinating power.
"Well as you're all Savants I don't need to worry about being given that crazy look. My father, Malcolm Clarke passed away a few weeks ago. I came to discover this morning that he was in fact murdered by another savant, a savant in search for some kind of hard drive."
The room fell silent, their energy changing slightly as I felt someone push against my barriers. My eyes scanning each of them for the culprit.
"It's very rude to snoop. If you have a question, ask me instead of invading my brain."
I say bluntly as I look at the tall, lean but muscular male beside Saul, his dark almost black hair pulled back into a pony tail as he watched me with his steel grey eyes. A very intimidating man it seems. Absolutely drop dead gorgeous but scary none the less. I'm guessing he's never dealt with a Scot before because otherwise he'd know better to avoid pissing one off.
"Alright. How do you know if he was murdered? You only arrived yesterday."
The grey eyed God asked as I glanced at Sky, I guess she was looking out the window yesterday when I arrived too. What a bunch of peepers.
"Because I have an ability that allows me to uh, you know I've never really had to explain it before."
I rub the back of my neck, a few more of Zeds brothers entering the room with who I presumed to be their mother. God the energy in here was WILD. I was having a hard time keeping my walls up at this point, my entire body felt like it had been shocked with a thousand volts of electricity and my head was really taking the hit.
"She's in pain."
One of the younger males spoke, my eyebrow raising as I steadied myself against the fireplace again.
"You're all... quite powerful. I've never been in a room with so many of our kind before. You'll have to forgive me for my reaction."
Saul moved toward me, his large callused hand taking my elbow gently to sit me down in the chair.
"Everyone but Victor, Xav, Trace, Sky and Zed needs to leave."
I was trembling slightly, my eyes shifting to the unlit fireplace behind me. My hand moving toward it as I expelled a large amount of energy I was absorbing to ignite the fire wood, the flames erupting quickly in one large blast as I let out a breath.
"Whoa! She can make fire like Yves! Explains the red hair."
The one called Xav says with a smirk, my eyes rolling.
"Can you show me what you saw Amy?"
Zed asks as he stands beside me, Victor watching from the other side of the room with Trace.
"I guess so, just don't go snooping."
The boy smirks and nods before I extend my hand to him, letting my barriers slip just enough to show him what I saw. I knew he'd pass it on to the rest and I had to be grateful for one thing, I was glad it was him in my head and not Victor. There's something rather unsettling about that man.
