Chapter 7: Be My Guide!
Izuku, Momo, & Ochako- Center Stage
It's been years since he's heard Kyoka Jirou's voice in person.
The last time he can recall is the school festival they had during their First and Third Years back at U.A., the lead singer that entranced the crowd the same way she's doing now to an audience of both old and new fans.
And maybe he's finding himself entranced just a bit too when her eyes roam across the growing crowd.
Momo creates them a set of binoculars, dark eyes glistening in equal awe. "Wow, you know her concerts normally sell out back on the mainland, right?! I can't believe we're lucky enough to see this in person!"
Ochako sways happily to the music on his opposite side, humming along to the lyrics.
Kyoka strums into a brief guitar solo, goes in for her final lyrics from her album Nostalgic Yesterday. The audience stomps their feet in anticipation, glow of red and yellow chanting sticks filling the coming darkness of night.
"I know you called for me yesterday, but I'm tired of feeling small! I promised you that I'm not going to fall again for your lies because it's my turn to have fun, be out on my own!~"
Izuku frowns despite the whoops and hollers surrounding him, repeating the lyrics slowly in his mind. Despite the cheers and claps from the crowd as Kyoka waves and gives a final bow, those lyrics describe a lost love, broken down by a mix of lies and pain.
He saw an interview she gave a few years ago on how she gained inspiration for her song lyrics, laugh seeming to hide the somber tone to her most popular hits.
"Alright, it's I Mika-Chan and I'm live with recent U.A. graduate Earphone Jack! Though to the world, I think you're better known for that magical voice and your recent opening of Heartburst Records! Tell us, how have you balanced the life of music and heroism?!"
Kyoka shrugs, modest grin lighting her features as the cameras twist to her.
"It actually feels more like my Hero work has been on the back burner lately Mika. I was busy for a while during the summer and monsoon seasons being called nearly daily for cases most exclusively involving search and rescue of children and the elderly trapped in their homes after the various floods and earthquakes. Sometimes as well I was called to stop petty thieves from stealing or looting through abandoned homes and businesses."
Mika clicks up a PowerPoint showing her helping out the community, slides showing a juxtaposition between her in her hero costume to performing at a sold-out concert.
"Would you be willing to share with your curious fans a bit of the inspiration behind your lyrics and persona on stage? Your latest song 'Deep Blue Mystery' was featured on the popular drama Sunrise With You catapulting it into the Top 10 downloads for Japan!"
Kyoka curls a finger through her violet locks, brush of pink splashing her cheeks.
"It's not that I enjoy per se writing songs about heartbreak and love. I guess you could say it's easiest to write what you know and have seen watching like friends go through breakups or having to distance themselves from family. I never really thought Deep Blue for example would be a hit, but when I watched Sunrise With You, I could see how it matched the character's feelings of war and duty amid the historical setting."
Mika giggles at her shyness, nudges her gently.
"Playing coy, huh?! Can you confirm whether it's true or not you're dating your former classmate and Chargebolt aka Denki Kaminari?!"
Kyoka had gone fully pink then, had refused to give a yes or no despite the pictures the paparazzi had taken of them out and about shopping or having dinner.
'I wonder if he came along with her.' Izuku considers, Momo and Ochako looping their arms around him.
"Let's try and get closer to see if we can say hello!" Ochako declares.
"I don't think we'll catch her before she departs the area." Izuku mutters, peering towards the main stage once more as the announcer introduces the magician set to perform next.
The smile that had been on Kyoka's face has begun to crack just slightly despite a series of giddy fans she poses with in pictures for, signing their autograph books to shirts with a faux grin. It's an expression he's seen upon his own face one too many times before he had a quirk...
A look of feeling listless; alone.
'It seems like she may want to get her bearings by herself for a bit.'
Though it seems like neither Ochako or Momo appear to hear him, twisting and weaving to the front before they see a glow of spirals swirling about the air, a flash of periwinkle hair none of them have seen in years.
"Wait, is that Hado from the Big 3?" Ochako gapes, floating herself up to get a closer look.
"Higher! Higher! This is way better than just Daddy carrying us on his shoulders!" A little girl declares, her brother hopping up and down to get a turn to go again.
Nejire giggles alongside her, tossing her sibling up in via spirals of her golden waves when their Father gives a nod of okay.
Sky-blue eyes twist seeing a figure approaching them, smile widening.
"Uraraka?! Ah, looks like my wave motion even doubles as a signal!"
Tsuyu, Kyoka, & Mina- Center Stage Backstage
"It seems Nejire's using her quirk like a beacon! We'll probably find the others if we go in that direction, but we may need to try a route that's further away from the crowds." Tsuyu advises, tugging Mina away from a takoyaki and cotton candy stand with a flick of her tongue. She thought she was eager to get to Izuku along with Momo and Ochako before the night ended, but her mind is clearly partially on getting food as well.
"Okay, sorry; I'm right behind you! We can't greet them on an empty stomach! Well, at least I don't want to greet them and have my stomach growling; I haven't eaten anything proper since late this morning!" Mina chirps out.
She flicks a bite of the sugary and salty treats into her mouth, nodding and picking up the pace to not lose Tsuyu as well to the crowd.
'Ooh, my luck is turning around tonight! Finding Nejire again and possibly Izuku! Plus, the rest of the old gang!' Mina grins to herself.
It will be just like all the times they hung out studying after school or getting snacks!
Tsuyu keeps her tongue wrapped around her arm anyways, half-watching Mina's wandering eye akin to how her siblings behave when put in front of their favorite sweets or games.
They approach the center stage from the side, frowns when the gold waves of Nejire's quirk abruptly fade into the dark.
'Shoot.'
After the magician finishes, the fireworks are set to start. She could try calling Ochako, but she doubts she'll hear her phone ringing amid the commotion.
Tsuyu turns her eyes towards the closest stands that have the least amount of traffic, doing a double take when she sees familiar purple hair and dark eyes trying to keep low to the shadows where the lights don't fall.
Jirou.
"Kyoka?" Tsuyu calls out to her, her body going rigid hearing her name called.
Dark eyes twist just slightly, body only relaxing when she gets a better look at her.
"For a second there I thought you were one of my fans trying to follow me off stage! Ah, there's only so many autographs and words of encouragement I can give to budding songwriters and singers before the manager of the festival gives me the look to get going." Kyoka remarks.
Asui smiles knowingly at her strained grin, Mina bouncing over creating a 3-way group hug.
"Such is the life of a top singer, huh?" Tsuyu mentions, first to pull back.
Kyoka shrugs. "I wish it was more so for being a top Pro-Hero..."
Mina wiggles from Tsuyu's opposite side, clicking her teeth. "Asui, I thought we were in a rush to get to Nejire and the others, but I doubt we'll catch them now."
Yellow eyes track to black, and she straightens, rearranges her snacks giddily. "Kyoka, how come you're still not up on stage performing?!"
Kyoka blinks, plugs an earphone into the wall to hear her better over the surrounding noise and chaos, Mina leaning in closer to her.
"I said, I thought you would still be up on stage performing!" She remarks while pointing towards where the magician via his quirk has created an array of water and light effects creating sparkles of yellows, reds, and blues.
Kyoka follows her gaze, laughs half-heartedly. "I'm going to be performing tomorrow night as well! Didn't expect to see so many fans and supporters all the way out here in Okinawa of all places!"
Mina waves off her modesty. "You're like known all over Japan! When did you get here anyways?"
Kyoka squirms, Tsuyu noting a flush to her cheeks. "About...a day or so ago. I think I'm actually staying at the same hotel that Midoriya and some of our other old classmates are at as well. You guys?"
Asui points at herself. "Me? I've been working here since summer started with the Marine and Environmental agencies of Okinawa. I have the weekend off from my boss Shimura."
Mina gives out her response between bites of cotton candy. "I got here around late last week with Nejire! We're staying with her folks at their beach house!"
Kyoka nods, glad to see familiar faces besides just Midoriya. 'So guess that means they don't know any details about his current relationship with Momo and Ochako then?' Ah, well, it isn't my business to pry about that.'
Or be thinking about the way it made her feel to eavesdrop...
Mina claps her hands, gaze turning back to Asui. "Asui, you still have Ochako's number, right? Since tonight could be a bust in catching up with them, but how about we try and meet them in the morning for like breakfast or brunch?"
Tsuyu hums, not sure she likes the smirk that dances across her lips. "For what reason?"
Mina throws up her hands, the answer should be obvious!
"To be our guides in and around Okinawa and the surrounding islands silly! Ochako's been here the longest, right? And obviously spending time with her could lead us to catching up with Izuku again too!"
Tsuyu rolls her eyes. "Just say you want to see him."
Kyoka snickers as Mina huffs, cheeks gaining a reddish hue.
"That's...beside the point! I want to see everybody again! Some just a little bit more than others if I really want my Hero career to go places!"
Kyoka nudges Tsuyu, pair shaking their heads.
"Not just that reason alone though, right?" Kyoka questions to be sure. None of them need to be using Izuku for the sole purpose of boosting their statuses as Heroes, especially when he came here for the express purpose of getting away from his duties, the stress of constantly being on-call to stop villains and petty criminals.
Mina shakes her head, secretive smile curling at her lips.
"Of course not, but I'm not going to turn down the opportunity if it arises. Anyways, haven't you two heard the rumors swirling about him?"
Asui arches a brow, but Kyoka flusters, fingers twirling her earlobe.
A nervous tic from high school that still hasn't left her.
Mina chuckles, nodding to Kyoka. "You've heard them, huh?"
'Yes, with my very own ears.' She bites her lip recalling Ochako and Momo's moans, the squeak of their beds as each girl tipped into an orgasm...
Her cheeks turn a shade darker, neither confirming nor denying her statement.
Asui hums, ignores the heat growing to her own face at the stir of memories.
"Rumors like what?" She finds herself asking before Mina can find a way to tease or pressure them for questions.
Mina smiles morphs into a smirk.
"There's apparently some 'fun' that Izuku Midoriya gets up to here amid the seas and forests and I intend to find out just if these gossip magazines are telling the truth or lying to make a quick buck."
Itsuka- Lotus Breeze Check In
Her head dully thrums, popping out two emergency Tylenol from her bag, slushing them down with a water bottle she grabbed off of the flight.
Try as she did, sleep evaded her for a majority of the journey to Okinawa.
"Please tell me one of your restaurants is still open despite how late it is?" Itsuka asks the main receptionist once he finishes reviewing her passport and check-in details, relieved when he gives a nod towards a Stargaze Dining.
"You won't get the full menu at this time of day unfortunately, but that's open to 2:00 am. If you're feeling super sluggish, we have a 24-7 express option that you can pick from for light meals and snacks as well."
Itsuka nods, pulling her luggage forward. "Nah, don't feel like waiting. I'll eat here and then head up!"
There're people still lingering about the lounge area, soft piano music drifting in the background. She does a double take noticing familiar green hair, the figure of a man's build that matches the same photos in the magazine she bought on a whim while waiting for boarding back on the mainland.
Izuku Midoriya.
In the flesh.
She burrows into her menu before he or any of his companions can look her way, flashes a smile to the waiter asking for a sprite, water, and some omurice to get her started.
'Stop looking so starstruck, he's no different from any other Pro-Hero, guy you went to school with, or even dated!' She reminds herself.
Still, what would Kinoko, Ibara, and even Setsuna think of the boy from class 1-A that's now grown into the top Pro not only from their graduating class, but all of Japan now? Even in his current, casual relaxed pose she can sense he's still scouting the area to ensure it's safe from danger.
That included his eyes skimming her when she first entered the restaurant.
'See if he's single?!' Setsuna's voice jokes in the back of her mind and she holds in a laugh picturing splitting her body apart to literally lead her closer to Midoriya's lap. It's clear anyways he's already taken given the closest of both what looks to be Uraraka and Yaoyorozu's closest to him.
And she swears straight across from him is their former upperclassmen, Hado.
It's like she's back in high school again.
'Would be nice if any of my old class 1-B girls were here.'
Hell, she wouldn't even mind seeing Monoma again if only to flick that silly smirk off his face.
She digs into her omurice once the waiter returns, pulling her hair back and keeping her face low hearing the giggles and light laughs coming from their table. It's too quiet though not to pick up on some of what they're saying, the realization that they've all been here awhile.
"In the morning, we can head out to do snorkeling at Yachikawa beach like Asui told me about and then head over to Ishimidi Caves. We can meet Mina and Kyoka there by around 10:00 am." Ochako reasons.
Momo nods, pulls out her phone to make an itinerary. "That should give us enough time to additional checkout all the seaside restaurants and stores in the region."
Nejire waves up a finger. "You don't need to make a whole list and what not! I'll tell you about all the secret shops and stores that none of the tourists know about!"
Itsuka bites absently into a mix of egg and rice, she needs to come up with things to do herself. "Sounds like fun."
Izuku gets up to refill his drink, eyes falling to hers again as he passes her table and her breath hitches wondering if he heard her eavesdropping. His lips etch upwards just slightly into a smile and Itsuka awkwardly looks away.
That wasn't a mistake, he clearly saw me this time.
Probably clearly knows who she is too, they might not have been in the same class, but she doesn't look that much different from their final year at U.A. to now.
"Good to see you!" Izuku mouths before returning back to his table with his soda.
Itsuka faintly nods, picks up eating a bit faster.
'Oh, he definitely knows I was listening.'
Izuku, Ochako, Momo, & Nejire Lotus Breeze- Stargaze Dining Bar
"It's really okay for me to be here?" Nejire repeats to be sure.
Mina had told her they could catch up tomorrow, but it seems unfair they weren't able to cross paths before the festival's activities ended for the night.
'Well, they do say early bird gets the worm.' Nejire considers, eyeing Izuku's figure appreciatively.
But that's not why she agreed to come here, at least not the only reason she agreed to drinks and further snacks.
She takes a nibble of the edamame and taiyaki Izuku bought for them all, not wanting anything to go to waste. Verdant eyes meet cerulean, and a warmth builds in her chest at his nod and smile to eat and drink as much as she wants.
At this time of night, few guests remain in the lobby, stragglers heading for their rooms or back to their houses off property.
Ochako waves off Nejire's worried look, brushes sand and smoky residue from the fireworks lingering amongst her and Momo's locks. "Don't worry, we're allowed one visitor pass up to 24 hours on property that just needs to be renewed daily."
Ochako smirks Momo's way. "You've definitely taken advantage of said pass more than once now."
Momo coughs into her smoothie, face turning a pastel pink sending Ochako a glare. "D-Don't say it like that; I checked with guest services to be sure! Besides, we didn't get a chance to properly talk with the noise and then the fireworks show starting."
Nejire nods, sitting forward eagerly then. "Ah, well I haven't been up to anything super exciting since graduation! It's Mirio and Tamaki that have been truly getting the biggest and coolest jobs compared to me! I mean you two have been doing wonders for the Hero community as well with WonderWhy and Cloud Nine! I should be getting tips from you two!"
Ochako pouts, floats up a mix of mochi for them to split. "That's not true! I'm always hearing my clients at Cloud Nine talk about your latest feats in around Tokyo and then those excursions you did in Europe and Australia last year!"
'Those were just little promotions, nothing big that had a long-lasting impact on my career.' Nejire sighs, before tacking on a smile.
Izuku cracks open his taiyaki, licks at the jam that spatters his thumb making Nejire clench her legs.
Her mind pictures his fingers instead opening her, trailing to her clit...
"That's right, I read about you in an article about 'Up and coming Heroes: A list of 25 under 25.'"
Momo waves him off with a nudge. "Izuku, we're all featured in that article."
Izuku reddens, chuckles between bites, absently again wipes and licks up bits of chocolate and strawberry jam marring his fingers.
'He's not even trying to be sexual; get it together!' She reprimands herself.
Nejire clears his throat. "Ah, I actually wanted to get tips from you Midoriya on how you got Valiant up and running so fast! Most businesses, including Pro-Hero agencies don't prosper so quickly until around 3 or 4."
She knows she shouldn't be talking about work, but Izuku's expression lights up. "It's really thanks to my assistants! On top of the connections I've made with other agencies on a global scale. We can all have a sit-down meeting when we get back, spitball and gain ideas off each other if you'd like."
Nejire practically bounces in her seat. "I would! And so would Mina!"
Momo cocks her chin. "Mina as Ashido Mina from our class!"
"That's the only Mina I know!" Nejire chirps back.
Momo glances to Ochako, perking up again, auburn eyes glowing with excitement of more meetups to come.
Nejire sighs, getting back on track.
"I suppose, I did get a boost for a time after my stints there but locally I've slowed down a lot while still working with various Pro-Hero agencies here and there like with Mt. Lady and Ryukyu, but nothing grand like Tamaki forming his own hero agency under his quirk's namesake Manifest. He's gathered the best animal related quirks and is set to soon open a London based agency the last time we talked. And of course, I'm sure you know Midoriya that Mirio's been traveling between here and U.S. working with various Pro-Heroes and even as a bodyguard for high profile celebrities and politicians!"
Momo hums thoughtfully. The Big 3 then and now still seem leaps and bounds ahead of them despite Nejire's worry she's slipped and stagnated compared to her two old companions.
A yawn slips out from Ochako before she can hold it in, Nejire's eyes falling to her watch.
Nearing midnight.
"Heh, it's already almost tomorrow! I texted my grandparents to let them know I'll be late, though I'm sure that hasn't stopped them from staying up." She remarks while moving to stand.
Izuku follows to lead her out. "I'll have one of the concierges at the front desk call a taxi or uber for you."
Momo leans Ochako onto her shoulder when Izuku glances back to them, duo giving sleepy nods in return they'll wait up for him back in the room. Nejire blinks at the silent communication between the trio, insides coiling she's interrupting whatever intimacy going on between them.
"You don't have to call any transport for me, that's money that can be used for an excursion. I know these islands well from multiple summer vacations growing up, heck, I could even use wave motion to get home if need be!" Nejire mentions on the walk up to the main entrance.
Fireflies wink in and out of pitch black, sparks of yellows and greens buzzing amid the cicadas.
Izuku's lips flatten and Nejire smiles. She hasn't seen Izuku argue about anything all night, but this he's apparently going to be firm and resolute on.
"No way Hado, I couldn't do that when like you said it's late. I know you can handle yourself, but it would give me peace of mind to know you didn't strain yourself using your quirk running into somebody buzzed or a creep."
Nejire giggles and maybe due to the thrill of sake warming her body or the way Izuku looks as moonlight shines his verdant hair an iridescent green, but she leans closer to him, breasts purposefully pressing into his side.
"...Is this how you do it?! How you got Ochako and Momo-Chan to drop their panties for you?" She whispers in his ear, fingers tracing against the hard planes of his chest.
It's too dark to tell if his body is truly reacting to her touch, but she knows her body is alight with goosebumps, sucking in a breath.
Izuku jolts as if scalded, green to blue watching each other again.
But now they're without an audience; alone.
"W-What?! I haven't-"
Nejire's fingers brush his cock, beams feeling it grow hard beneath her touch.
"You have, no need to deny it when I've seen the way both Momo and Ochako gazed at you with those bedroom eyes. Oi, I know I might've acted a bit airheaded when you know me as part of The Big 3 back at U.A., but I can tell you right here and now that I'm no longer that girl."
"I'm...I'm dating them, the both of them." Izuku manages through a hiss.
She rubs her legs together forming a friction, sighing softly in the dark. "Both? Well...is it serious?"
Nejire kneads her hand against his erection, slowly, slowly unzips his fly, slides out the glistening head of his cock until Izuku abruptly steps back, pushes her hand away dousing her with a cold reality.
"It is." Izuku answers to confirm to her earlier question.
Sapphire eyes skirt between him and his member as he hurriedly tucks it away. Nejire lingers close to him, breath warm with honey and sake on lips.
"Alright then, how about letting me be a guide to the sides of Okinawa you all haven't seen yet?" Nejire abruptly suggests.
Izuku scratches a hand to his cheek. "I'd have to ask Momo and Ochako if they-"
"Already gave Uraraka a list of ideas! There's kayaking, caves, and snorkeling to do off the beaten path of areas you've been to so far!" Nejire interrupts.
She holds up her phone to show the ongoing conversation they've been having, grins with pleasure at Izuku's blush continuing on with a wink.
"I'll show you all sides of the city and countryside to give you a true taste of the more the merrier."
Kyoka
"1st concert go well babe?" Denki asks just as she's settling into her pillows. She takes in his wrinkled clothes, windswept hair and wonders if Mineta suggested them to go club-hopping or bar prowling.
It's noisy wherever he is, a woman's voice shouts in the back for him to make the lights brighter, make lightning dance across the ceiling.
She breathes in and out seeing the wisp of pink to his jacket collar and neck.
'Lipstick? No, it's late. I've got a headache and I'm seeing things.' Kyoka decides before she can start dwelling on it, though it doesn't stop her envy from coiling around her heart, eyes narrowing.
The sparks that flicker to question him, to potentially start a fight she burrows back down quickly into her chest before he can notice her change in expression.
She won't end this night with an argument, Kyoka rubbing her eyes.
The hours have gone by in a blur.
Meeting Mina and Asui again, confirming they'll meet with Midoriya and the others for snorkeling and cave diving tomorrow, that she still has another performance to do tomorrow night on a different island...
"Great. Heh, a lot of our old classmates from U.A. are here. I met up with Asui and Mina after I finished performing." Kyoka mentions lightly.
Denki laughs in surprise, glow in his eyes warming her just slightly. "What? No way! Kirishima is always telling me we need to check out Mina's agency Corrosivity at some point. How's Tsuyu been?"
Kyoka points backwards to the swirl of dark waves and sea. "Great! She's been working here helping conserve Okinawa's environment via both land and sea. Does a few rescue operations here and there of stranded fishermen and people pulled out into riptides."
Denki nods, cocks his head maybe truly seeing the dark rings under her eyes. "Well, I know it's late. I won't keep you from getting some rest; love you."
A hand taps his shoulder before he can fully sign off the FaceTime, that same woman's voice again. "Who ya talking to Chargebolt?"
"Who's that?" Kyoka can't help herself, jealously clawing forward.
Denki waves her away out of view of the camera. "A woman who was in U.A.'s graduating class the year after us! She was in the General Studies and Support classes, works as an engineer now helping build Hero suits for radioactive and natural disaster hit areas!"
Kyoka pushes on a grin seeing a petite hand wave in the background. "Nice, well, love you too. I'll talk to you tomorrow."
Her heart thrums noisily in her ears, stomach churning about like a storm.
'I shouldn't have had those kamikazes.' She clenches her eyes shut.
As soon as her phone goes black, she tosses it away, fights with urge to crack it apart.
It lights up again a minute later, ready for Denki to feel the true extent of hurt only to see it's not a number she recognizes.
An Unknown number.
She lets it go to voicemail only for a text to pop up, rolling her eyes until she sees the name at the top.
'Izuku?'
'Hi, this is Midoriya; I know it's late and I hope this isn't a stranger as I got your number from Ochako. Anyways, I figured things would be easier this way than relying on just word of mouth alone for all these planned meetups in between your concerts in case you end up being too tired to go to one excursion or another. So, uh Hi again!' Kyoka reads.
A giggle bubbles up that even via text Izuku can ramble, snickering with a shake of her head before typing a message back.
'Hi. It's Kyoka Jirou. And yes, it's me and not some stranger.'
