Dee's last relationship before meeting the man who was to become his whole world had been with a girl who'd broken up with him because he wasn't romantic enough. He'd found that baffling, especially considering the big deal he'd made over her birthday two months before she'd dumped him. He'd sent her flowers, bought gifts, taken her out to dinner at a really nice restaurant, but apparently she'd felt that was how he should treat her all the time, not just on her birthday. Who knew?
Ryo was different. He didn't demand romantic excesses, was surprised every time Dee bought him flowers, or took him out for dinner, or gave him small gifts, like his favorite candy bar, or a cupcake. Not that Ryo didn't do things for Dee, baking him cakes and pies, surprising him with something for his car.
"You don't need to do all this, Dee; you've already got me," Ryo pointed out when Dee surprised him with a book he'd been wanting to read.
"I know that; I do it 'cause I want to. Guess you could say you inspire me to be my best romantic self."
He wasn't losing Ryo through not being romantic enough.
