Chapter ten:
Near and Matt arrive to the location looking at the building.
"You ready?" Near glances to Matt who takes a breath as they both know what is going to be waiting for them.
"As ready as I'll ever be." Matt admits and the two head inside of the building.
They are greeted by the one who gave Near the gun who Near returns the gun to. They also have to empty their pockets though they didn't bring much else, mainly the cellphone Near was given from these criminals which he hands over. They are directed where to go and head straight there. They can feel watchful eyes on them, making them even more aware that one wrong move and they're goners. They press onwards arriving to where they need to be.
Inside is a man lounging on a dining room chair in a slightly darker spot, and Nears siblings who are sitting on a couch.
The two look happy to see Near and clearly want to run over to him... Only to glance warily at the man sitting and watching. They look relieved at getting a go ahead nod and hurry over to Near embracing him.
Near embraces his siblings back. He looks into the chocolate brown with a hint of red eyes of his twin; who looks exactly like him except for the eyes and of course their clothing currently.
Nears twin has on a slightly ripped blue t-shirt, and grey sweat pants with black socks on his feet.
Near also looks to his little sister who looks back with her winter blue eyes. Her straight long white hair looks beautiful on her. Her clothes consist of basically the same as her other older brother. She looks to be maybe three years younger than the twin brothers.
Near whispers a few things which sounds like a loving tone, but Matt knows what Near is actually doing.
Luckily the siblings play along clearly smart enough to know to not let anyone on to it.
"We're alright. They didn't do anything like you feared." The little sister assures her brother in a slight whisper. She is clearly not just assuring Near, but also making sure the man doesn't know what was actually said.
Matt hopes that this indeed is going to work.
The man in the chair gets up gaining everyone's attention. Since he purposefully moved the chair to make a noise so attention would be on him. "Now that reunion time is done let us get down to business."
A gun clicks behind them making them all turn to see a man with gloves holding a pistol.
The same one Near had used to kill BB who pretended to be L.
A glimpse of a laser pointer indicating a sniper is a warning about resisting.
"Your time is up I'm afraid." The man informs them and Nears twin looks to him.
"You said we would be set free and monitored for our silence."
"I lied. You all know too much after all. And if we have no use for you why keep you around? To waste my peoples time to ensure your silence?" The man glances to Matt thoughtfully. "You however. Still have use in you. You have a choice. Leave now and save your own life but agree to continue working for me, or stay to refuse to work for me and die with these three. This is your only chance."
Matt glances to Near and his siblings then to the gun now aimed teasingly at his head.
"Go ahead Matt." Near tells the red head and their eyes lock. He looks calm yet slightly reassuring. "I know working for them is not ideal. However I want you to have a chance at continuing to live. I'm sorry you got mixed up in all of this."
Matt stares at Near for a long moment as if contemplating if it's truly worth it to go. He lets out a heavy sigh as if his heart is heavy to do this. "I won't forget you." He promises getting a smile from Near then leaves. He is escorted out by someone who was waiting to see what he picked.
Once Matt is gone the man claps his hands.
Goons rush in pulling the siblings apart and restraining them as quickly as they can.
"Now then. For our main event." The man smirks at the three who give him wide eyed looks as if scared about death. He points to the sister who is aimed at first.
A shot is fired and the sister jerks as a splatter of red comes from the back of her head. She falls forward let go by the one holding her. She hits the ground limp with red starting to pool beneath her.
"Rai!" Near gasps before looking away unable to bear looking at her any longer.
The man then points to Nears twin before snapping his fingers twice.
Near is forced to look to his twin as the gun is aimed at his head. "I'm sorry Silver." He whispers tearfully.
"It's okay brother." Silver gives Near a smile. "You kept us alive all this time hoping that we could all be free one day. We appreciate all you did." He doesn't get to say anything more as he falls to the same fate as their sister.
The gun is finally aimed at Near who lowers his head to show he's ready.
"Just do it." Near tells them in defeat.
"It was a pleasure working with you. You did your job well." The man says as a mocking thankful goodbye. He clearly doesn't actually care that Near is going to be ended.
The shot rings out and Near falls to the floor by his siblings.
Near looks to have been hit on the side of the head instead of the back.
The gun is lowered, wiped with a rag then put in Nears hand as if he had been the one to do this.
"Lets go. We no longer have a reason to stay." The leader mentions and all of his men, and a few women goons, head to follow him towards the exit.
They all stop as through the open front door and the front windows a bright light flicks on.
"What the hell!?" The man questions who can he is soon answered by a loud speaker.
"You're surrounded! Put your hands in the air and come out now! You have one minute to comply or we're coming in!"
"The cops!" A woman gasps taking a step back.
The man growls. "They couldn't have been alerted. We had those two under our sharpest watchers the entire time. That stupid red head is still currently being watched."
A man with a sniper rifle comes running over a little out of breath. "Sir! They got our watcher already who was following the red head who has already left the scene." He explains and the man growls.
"How the hell were they tipped off to us at this spot?! Do they even have anything on us!?"
The group are too distracted to notice that behind them two figures sneak in.
The two figures sneak off to where the siblings had been shot.
The group took too long in their shock, and police storm inside shooting the sniper out of the hands of the holder. They are swiftly tackled and taken down by the cops.
Some other cops head to clear the building.
One raising a fisted hand to make two others pause as they arrive to one room.
Near and his siblings get up spitting out what they can of the remaining fake blood capsule.
Mello and Matt are making sure that they are indeed okay.
Near is relieved he was able sneak the fake blood capsules in time to his siblings.
"Are you all okay?" The lead cop asks approaching with no weapon in hand.
"Yeah. The fake bullets we replaced the real ones with worked like a charm." Matt says proudly as he had managed to make the fake bullets, that just make a red splatter upon impact, in time.
Near rubs the back of his head as the hit did still feel quite hard. He's just glad that this whole thing is over.
Everyone turns as someone walks into the room accompanied by two older men.
L, Watari and Roger look relieved that all of them are safe.
"It's good we were in the city." L mentions moving closer to the orphans. "I'm sure that there's a lot to explain. For now let us get you all checked by health professionals just in case. Then if you're clear we can go to the orphanage."
"Can my siblings come to the orphanage?" Near requests blinking at L. "We don't have anyone else and no where else to go."
"Of course." L smiles softly to Near clearly not one to separate orphaned siblings.
It doesn't need to be said though they all know that Near has to keep studying.
Nears siblings won't be put under the same pressure of getting good grades.
They all leave after the kidnappers are taken away to head to jail.
While Near and his siblings get checked out Mello and Matt fill L in on everything they know.
"I see. Well I am proud of all of you. You did a fantastic job and brought down a big enemy cooperation." L really does look proud of them. "You all can have a bit of a break for a week after all you've been through."
Watari and Roger look like they aren't going to argue as they think that it is deserved.
Later...
Being cleared medically the orphans are brought back to the orphanage.
Eyes turn to them as they arrive with not only L but also Nears siblings.
Mello moves closer to Near who turns to him. "You're not getting rid of us after all we've been through. You're our friend now." He mentions and Matt smiles in agreement to Near over Mellos shoulder.
Near smiles appreciatively at them.
Nears siblings smile at each other glad to hear that Near has friends.
They all head further in together not caring about any looks they get from any other orphans.
The end.
