The city of Townsville…
A place where good times can be had. Peace can be found around every corner. Joy would be spread to all that craved it. The city was a Utopia to anyone that called it home!
Well that's how it was supposed to be. In actuality, it was a cesspool of rotten crimes and absolute terror. Some of the world's most dangerous villains made a living off of the havoc that they caused.
Every day was another new problem. From as low as petty thefts by the Gangreen Gang to Mojo Jojo destroying the city with another one of his large robots. These villains were scum. Every single one of them.
Despite all of the atrocities, that didn't stop the citizens of the city from having hope. You see, due to the one silver lining that remained. Whenever there was trouble, the heroes that they needed would always be there.
The Heart of the City
Explosions erupted within several buildings. The street below was littered with craters of various sizes. Cars were engulfed in flames and shattered glass rained from above.
Nobody was dumb enough to stay in the area to watch. The entire battlefield was a health hazard. This was an all out war. A war between six young kids. Three super powered girls and three super powered little boys. Both fairly even in power and skill. Both with a lot on the line.
Another shockwave rang throughout the sky, parting the clouds in the process.
Flying down to the earth at mach speed was a girl in pink. She crashed down with a large thud. Her skin was decorated with multiple wounds. Some bruises and burns were all over her arms.
Descending towards her was a boy dressed in red. His arms were crossed and he had a deep scowl within his crimson eyes. He too was badly injured from hours of fighting.
"Just do us a favor and die already." He spoke with venom in his young voice.
The girl picked herself up and dusted off her pink dress. "I don't know what your problem is today but you three have COMPLETELY LOST IT!"
"Listen Blossom…" He sighed. "HIM didn't give us a choice. This is our last chance. If we don't get rid of you three now, we're all done for! I can't let that happen. There's so much I still want. I can't die yet. I WON'T DIE YET! Not again. Never again!"
She slammed her fist fist across his jaw and kicked him back a few feet. "You three put innocent lives in danger! YOU almost deep fried an entire city block!"
"If you just let yourselves die then no one else would have to suffer."
"You know that's a lie Brick! We're the only ones that can protect these people from monsters like you!"
His fist clenched tighter as he grit his teeth. "You could never understand!" He charged at her with a red streak following him. He tackled her into an abandoned semi-truck. "YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT DEATH IS LIKE! IT'S COLD AND EMPTY! THERE WAS NOTHING! ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!"
His hands gripped her neck as he slowly started applying pressure. She clawed at his hands in a feeble attempt to break free. "B...Brick...don't do…"
"Just shut up! We didn't want this anymore! We just wanted to be free. We finally have the chance now and I won't let it slip!"
WHAM*
He flew back into a solid wall of concrete. Before him stood the bright green puff that was seething with rage.
"Blossom are you alright?" She asked her sister.
She caught her breath and nodded. "Thanks for the help Buttercup."
Brick picked himself up and glared. "Shouldn't you be dealing with Butch right now?"
"Yeah, well your weirdo brother started freaking out about something. Started shouting like he was in pain before I even hit him."
Brick's eyes widened. "What?! No! Not now!" He quickly shot up into the sky to search for Butch.
Blossom and Buttercup followed after him apprehensively. Both still very much on guard.
"What the heck is your problem?"
Brick glared at the green Powerpuff and waved her off. "I don't have time for you right now! I have to find my brothers. Things are about to get bad and I have to stop it!"
"Bad how? What's going on Brick?" Blossom asked, slightly nervous at the sudden rumbling.
"It's Butch. He's not stable. After the last time we fought you girls and lost, HIM decided to make some...changes…" Brick narrowed his eyes. "He tested us. Said that we were too childish. Too weak. Soft! We didn't know what that meant at the time. That was until he took us to Hell and injected us with something. It never had any effect on me and Boomer. Butch on the other hand…" He paused and started shaking.
"W-what happened to him?" Buttercup asked.
"He became exactly what HIM wanted. A demon spawn with power that you wouldn't believe. He's dangerous. He'll destroy us all if we don't stop him! I bet HIM was banking on that happening."
"Okay so how much time do we have-"
Before Blossom could finish, a bright green beam shot up to the sky. The wind blew them all back and pinned them into a still standing skyscraper.
The clouds darkened and the pressure increased. They all looked at the boy rising upwards with a dark green aura surrounding him. His eyes looked towards the three of them. A haunting green that would threaten even the most hardened warrior.
After all the chaos, the world went silent. Time seemed to stop. Everything was motionless. Everything but the dark green Ruff. He lifted his left hand and aimed it at him. A small ball of green energy swirled within his palm.
Brick threw himself off the wall and without thinking, he shoved the two Puffs away. He tried to move with them but ended up getting blasted through five buildings before crash landing into a small café.
"You have to be kidding me." The room was spinning and he felt like he was gonna throw up.
"Brick?"
The redhead looked up and saw Boomer looking down at him with a frightened stare. He took note of the styrofoam cup in his hands and glared daggers at it.
"What do you think you're doing?"
"Huh? Oh uh, I was just...Taking a little break…" Boomer chuckled nervously.
"Hey Boomer!"
"Oh crap!" The blonde boy shouted.
Brick watched as the blue Powerpuff walked over with two pastries in her hands. His blood began to boil at the sight of her smile.
"They were all out of the cinnamon rolls so I got you a lemon scone. Is that alright?" She then noticed Brick on the ground with steam rising from his body. "Oh hey Brick!"
"...Hello Bubbles."
"Heheh, so Brick! Can we talk later or is there something you need?" Boomer asked with mild hope.
Brick stood up and grabbed his brother, dragging him outside. He showed him the sky before smacking the back of his head.
"While you were enjoying brunch, Butch and I have been dealing with all the fighting! Now he's lost control of himself again and he's gonna kill us all!"
"Oh...That's bad isn't it."
Brick resisted the urge to punch him and decided to fly back to his other sibling. Boomer followed behind after filling Bubbles in on the situation.
After a few minutes, all five of them gathered around and faced Butch. None of them were willing to make a move just yet.
"Alright...So what's the plan?" Buttercup asked in hopes of breaking some of the tension.
"Honestly, I'm not too sure. He pretty much exhausted himself last time. Boomer and I barely survived. We might not get so lucky this time."
"Well you've got three more on your side now. We should be able to overwhelm him. Maybe then you could snap him out of it."
Brick was still slightly uncomfortable with the idea of a team up. Boomer seemed fine but he just wasn't sure about it. "How do I know you won't just lock us away when this is over?"
"You did save me and Buttercup from that attack earlier. Plus you took it head on. It wouldn't be right to leave you here to fight while you're injured." Blossom's eyes grew stern. "That doesn't make us friends. Just temporary allies. You'll answer for your crimes, be sure of that."
"That's if Butch or HIM doesn't kill us first." Brick sighed. "Whatever! Let's move!"
They all charged at Butch with the intent of bringing him down. He stood there with a bored look in his demonic eyes. The first to attempt a hit was none other than Buttercup. She threw a jab at his face only for it to miss completely. Her eyes widened at his blindingly fast speed. She had no time to react to his uppercut to her midsection.
The raven haired girl flew straight up only to be axekicked back down to the ground.
Brick shot a bright red beam from his eyes. The beam blasted forward and seemingly hit its mark. However, when the smoke cleared there was nothing in sight.
"Oh my god." He groaned to himself before a sharp kick made contact with his spine. "Butch wait!" His words fell on deaf ears as another blast sent Brick barreling to the streets.
Boomer charged forward with a bat made of electricity while Bubbles and Blossom sent out a barrage of projectiles.
Boomer narrowed his cobalt blue eyes as he drew closer. "TIME TO WAKE UP BUTCH!"
The green Ruff continued to look unfazed. He put up a green force field around himself to block out the ranged attacks.
"We'll keep him pinned Boomer! Just try to snap him out of it!" Blossom instructed.
Boomer swung his bat around with ruthless aggression. Swing after swing continued on. He kept going despite his growing loss of stamina. He tried his best to break through the barrier. He had ended up swinging fifty times before his brother had enough of the useless attempts.
"Come on Butch! You're my brother! I look up to you because you're really strong and tough as nails! Come to your senses already! You gotta get your head back on straight!" There was a faint twitch from his hands. His eyes shifted ever so slightly. That didn't go unnoticed by Boomer. "COME ON DUDE! REMEMBER WHAT YOU ARE! YOU'RE A ROWDYRUFF!" That's when the barrier dropped. Boomer haulted his swings and sighed with relief. "Finally back now?"
His response was a heavy knee to his now broken ribs. Butch twisted his hips and buried a lead hook into his brothers jaw. This caused Boomer to drop his bat. He made a desperate effort to block a roundhouse kick that was aimed at his head. The end result was a shattered forearm and mild concussion. His body collapsed midair and he began to plummet downwards.
Bubbles flew out to catch him but stopped when a green blast pushed her counterpart out of reach. She glared at Butch and rushed him against Blossom's warnings.
A flurry of punches with a mixture of swift kicks tagged Butch in rapid succession. Even still, not a single attack left a scratch on him. This caused Bubbles to snap. Her anger was rising as the emotionless look on his face remained. She cocked her first back and smashed it into his chin. His head whipped back and he held that position for a moment.
"Don't look down on me Butch. I'm not as weak as you always seem to think I am." She spat with an underlying hatred. She hated being underestimated. It ticked her off beyond anything else. Her anger would also turn to strength that many didn't know she could even muster.
He slowly lowered his head and stared at her with menacing, dark, forest green eyes. He wiped the blood from his lower lip and spit out a tooth. Bubbles admittedly would've felt a sense of pride if she wasn't as terrified as she currently was.
"Bubbles get out of there!" Blossom called out. Her fear was showing itself at the sight of the wicked child before her.
"N-no! I can handle-"
She wouldn't get to finish her bold claim as a hand grabbed her by the face. Within less than a second, the two shot down like a falling meteorite. Bubbles tried to pry his hand from her face but it was too late. A large explosion could be seen miles away as they hit the ground.
"No...Bubbles no!" The pink cladded leader flew as fast as she could. Her panic rose even further when she saw Bubbles laid out in a large crater. "GET AWAY FROM HER!"
Butch shifted his eyes towards her. His murderous aura flowed all around. For the first time in her life the fearless leader had been shaken up by one of her foes. She dropped to her knees and was ready to start breaking down. Everyone was beaten. She was the only one left and she didn't know what to do.
"Oh my! Well what do we have here? It seems as though my son has proven too much for you WORTHLESS little girls."
She knew that voice. It was distinct. Feminine yet hostile at a moment's notice. It could only be one person. The being likely responsible for Butch's odd transformation.
"HIM?!" As if on cue, the red smoke swirled around and with it came the cross dressing demon. One of her most dangerous villains.
"Oh joy! It's such a pleasure to see your suffering! Tell me Blossom, how are you on this fine day?"
She found enough resolve to glare at the demon. "What did you do to Butch? How is he so powerful now?"
"It's simple really. I gave him a little essence of demonic blood. It didn't work so well on those two siblings of his...However, Butch was different!" He patted the dark haired boy's head and smiled. "The three of them all had their quirks. Brick was able to adapt to multiple situations which made him an excellent leader. Boomer was more naive and easily swayed. He was more of a mixed bag really. Good? bad? I really couldn't tell. This boy on the other hand was like a caged animal. He was hungry for violence and had very little empathy. He was a brute with absolute bloodlust. All at such a young age too."
"So he liked fighting. So what? Buttercup always wants a good fight too. They're practically the same."
"WRONG! You understand very little about them you little know-it-all. They all have their wants and desires. Brick just wants to be free to live his own life. Boomer wants to be a normal kid and make friends or some nonsense like that."
Blossom was afraid to ask but she did so anyway. "...What does Butch want?"
HIM started laughing uncontrollably. He dropped to the floor holding his sides. "You WON'T believe this one. He ACTUALLY wants to be a hero. A dumb hero instead of the little DEVIL that I turned him into. Twelve year olds...So unpredictable!"
"He wants to be a hero? That can't be right. He and his brothers...No! YOU'RE LYING!"
"WRONG AGAIN YOU LITTLE BRAT!" HIM yelled in her face. "Those little boys don't get a choice when it comes to what I want for them. They WILL become the villains they were destined to be. We'll take over this entire planet together! So fun!"
Realization hit Blossom like a truck. "What Brick said was true then. You'd really kill them if they proved to be worthless to you!"
"Well kill is such a strong word. I prefer the term...PERMANENT REMOVAL!"
"You're sick! They're just afraid! You can't just force them into some kind of twisted ultimatum!"
"SAYS WHO?! THEY ARE MINE TO DO AS I PLEASE! I OWN THEM AND NOBODY ELSE! Not even that silly ape."
Her eyes shifted to the little boy behind him. He stood there with the same blank expression. The stark difference this time was the addition of tears that ran down his face. The twitching in his hands was even more than before and it made Blossom legitimately feel awful, even with all that he did.
"Butch you don't have to be what he tells you to be! I know we aren't friends or even acquaintances, but I know that you are a very headstrong person. You can be a hero if you really want to!"
"..." His eyes locked in on her. She wasn't sure what he was thinking. She was honestly still terrified. He was still very much able to kill her right now.
"Save your breath. He's a demon. He lost whatever hopes and dreams his young little mind had a long time ago. He's nothing more than the embodiment of destruction now."
"Don't listen to him Butch. You have the power to do whatever you want. Look at your brothers. Brick looks out for you guys and fights for your sake. Boomer spends way less time fighting Bubbles these days too. They think we don't notice but we do. They became friends in a way. Don't you want to at least try to do what you want?"
His brows furrowed with a mix of overflowing emotions. The twitching continued and it was driving him mad. He was feeling things. Anger, sadness, guilt, and most of all hope.
"ENOUGH ALREADY! Butch be a dear and dispose of this annoying girl. Once that's done we can go for ice cream!"
Blossom looked at him with pleading eyes as he stepped towards her. "You have to ask yourself now. What do you want and how bad do you want it? How are you gonna achieve your dreams?"
He stood above her with a face of worry and confusion. "I...I can't!"
"Yes you can. If you listen to HIM, you'll only end up alone and upset. This is your chance! Take it! TAKE WHAT YOU WANT!" She shouted.
"END HER NOW!"
"What I want…" He muttered. His green eyes glowed and a scowl was painted on his face. He turned around and stared at HIM with hatred in his eyes.
"Oh brother. What? You actually still want to be a hero?" HIM snorted.
"No. I only want to kill you." His tone was icy cold. The rage he felt was unyielding. Years of pain and loss lead him here. He had the power now. All he had to do was end it.
"I wouldn't do that Butch. BITING THE HAND THAT FEEDS YOU WILL ONLY GET YOU PUNISHED!"
With a quick step, he hopped forward and shoved his elbow deep into the nose of HIM. Followed by a series of rapid jabs, a stiff cross, a heavy uppercut to his sharp jaw and a spin kick to the temple. Needless to say, the demon was a bloody mess. The onslaught didn't stop. He kicked the demon into the sky and aimed a hand at him. A sadistic grin spread across his face as a green blast bursted from his hand.
HIM was engulfed in the explosion, just barely surviving it when a smirking Butch dashed upwards and punched a hole straight through his body. A thick gush of blood spilled to the city below. HIM couldn't even move. He was now regretting ever even coming to Townsville in the first place.
"You made me into this! Made me even more of a monster than I already was! I hurt my brothers and so many civilians."
"I granted you...ENDLESS...power…"
"You made me hate myself more than I did before. I can never forgive myself. Even more so, I can NEVER forgive you! You took our freedom away so now, I'm taking away your life!"
"I'm a demon! You can't kill me! I'll always come back!"
The boy ripped his fist out of the HIM and grabbed him by his skinny neck. His smirk grew even more as his grip tightened. "Won't know until I try."
From the ground all Blossom could do was watch the carnage unfold. Butch was beating HIM senseless to the point where the demon was unrecognizable. It was the most gruesome display of violence she had ever been subjected to. He even ended up ripping off the demon's arms. He went as far as beating him mercilessly with them. It was absolutely disturbing but she couldn't look away. Her most challenging adversary was picking apart her most sinister villain. It was surreal to say the least.
"Blossom!" Bubble said as she finally regained consciousness.
"Bubbles you're okay. Thank goodness!"
The blonde heroine nodded to her sister. She looked over to see Buttercup approaching from the east while Brick was flying over with Boomer on his back.
"Where's that green scumbag?! I'm ready for round two!"
"He's up there Buttercup." Blossom pointed straight up. The rest of them lifted their heads and watched as Butch continued to pummel HIM like there was no tomorrow.
Brick and Boomer were stunned. "He's actually fighting back now." Brick gasped.
"He's tearing HIM apart! GO GET HIM DUDE!!!" Boomer shouted with a wide grin.
"What did he finally go brain dead or something? Blossom what's the deal? Why's he beating the snot out of HIM now?" Buttercup asked.
"I'm still processing this myself."
Back in the sky, Butch was still bashing his knuckles across HIM's face. The demon had long since gone limp. At this point the boy was just letting out frustrating.
"Hey! Are you dead yet?"
"Can't really tell." He placed a glowing hand on the demon's battered chest. "I don't care where you end up. Even if you can come back. I'll just send you right back down to Hell. Now begone you rotten freak!" One final explosion of green energy encased the sky in a bright flash of light. HIM had disintegrated into nothingness leaving Butch standing there feeling better than he had been in years.
He let out a deep breath and lowered himself down to the ground. The wicked aura around his body faded. His eyes returned to normal as well.
His eyes showed a bit of shame for what he did. Brick went up and patted his shoulder.
"Hey bro."
"Hey Brick…"
"Are you going to be alright?"
"I don't know. HIM's gone but that still doesn't answer what will happen to me.. I'm still pretty dangerous. I don't want to lose control of myself like that again."
"Speaking of which, how'd you manage to come back to your senses?" Boomer asked.
Butch looked at Blossom and nodded. "She told me what I needed to hear. Blossom...Thank you for that."
"Huh? Oh uh, don't mention it! I mean you're that one that made the right choice in the end. I was completely useless."
"That's not the way I see it. You really did help us Blossom. We owe you one." Brick said to her.
"Okay seriously! What the heck is going on?!" Buttercup shouted. She then pointed an accusing finger at her counterpart. "He's gotten a whole lot stronger and I want to know how! Also, why are you guys talking all casual now? You're still criminals!"
"Buttercup!" Her sisters shouted.
"What?! Before Butch went all psycho, we were all fighting to the death!"
"No, she's right. With HIM gone we can do whatever we want. I'm gonna give the normal life a try. I've always wanted to go to school and learn more than just how to kill the Powerpuff girls." Brick said.
Boomer groaned. "School sounds boring! I just wanna have some fun!"
They all looked at Butch who hadn't said much the whole time. He shifted his eyes to them before sighing. "I don't really care."
His response disappointed the Powerpuff leader. She didn't speak her thoughts on it though. "Well if you want to change your lives for the better than you'll have to start by redeeming yourselves. You three caused a lot of damage in the city. If you're really feeling regretful, then you'll turn yourselves in."
"Aww what?! I thought you said you wouldn't lock us up!" Brick shouted.
Blossom shook her head. "I'm not. You're free to do whatever you want. I'm just telling you what needs to be done. People won't accept that you three just got away with all you've done over the years. You have to be punished."
"Is there seriously no other way?!"
She sighed. "I'm sorry Brick."
"You've gotta be kidding!" Brick was frustrated. It was like he could taste his freedom. All for what? To get arrested anyway?
While the discussion was going on, Butch stepped forward and dropped to his knees with his palms up. "I'll go."
"You're really turning yourself in?" Bubbles asked skeptically.
He nodded. "I don't want to keep doing this. I know what I really want now."
"Butch are you sure about this?" Boomer asked.
"Yes I am. I just want to be accepted. I'm sick of being hated by everyone all the time. I know I'm a freak now but I want to prove that I can be someone people don't have to run from."
The other two nodded and got to the ground next to their brother. "I guess it's settled. We'll be going to jail now."
Blossom bowed her head with appreciation. "Thank you all. I promise to put in a good world in order to lower your sentences. You're on the right path to being welcomed to society."
"You three better not bust out the next day!" Buttercup glared. She was clearly still suspicious.
"We won't. I swear that much to you."
The three girls grabbed their counterparts and flew them all off to the juvenile correctional center. They brought them inside and had them all registered into the system.
"Thanks again girls. Good job bringing these three hooligans in." An officer spoke with praise.
"They actually turned themselves in sir. They want to change." Bubbles told him.
The officer raised a brow. "Those three?" He asked, pointing to the chained up boys. "They're murderous villains without a single shred of humanity. You can't change them!"
Bubbles glared. "With all due respect sir, I'd have to say that you're wrong! I believe in them! I know for a fact that Boomer can be a good person!"
The blonde boy smiled bright much to the disdain of Brick.
"You three have no idea. Bad little kids come through those doors almost every day. These three are the worst of the worst. They'll most likely transfer to prison when they get older."
"You have to give them a chance at least. This is the correctional center! Let them correct their behavior!" Blossom said to him.
"...Fine then. If it was anyone else vouching for them I'd wave them off. You three actually fight these little monsters so I'll give them a chance."
Blossom and Bubbles smiled at that. "Thank you sir!"
Buttercup remained cautious and unwavering. She wasn't willing to trust them yet. She had her doubts. Especially when it came to her own counterpart. It was all out of her control though. She had to at least try to see what would become of them.
The officer walked up to the three boys. Boomer was nervous, Brick was cautious, and Butch was impassive. "Now listen to me, you three. No fighting, no stealing, no disobedience and most of all NO POWERS!"
The Ruffs nodded to the officer. Boomer raised his hand to ask a question. "Um, how long do we have to stay here for?"
"That all depends on you. At most six more years. With what you boys did that's most likely to happen."
"Aww man! But that's like forever from now!" Boomer whined.
"However, If you're well behaved I can shave off half of that time. You understand?" He spoke firmly.
"Three years isn't so bad. Plus we still have each other. We can do it boys!" Brick said to them.
"Like the attitude. Now it's time for you to be detained. Powerpuff Girls, if you have anything left to say then say it now."
Blossom stepped forward and nodded to them. "I know we have always been enemies, but I really do believe there is good in everyone. You three are no exception. Please stay out of trouble."
Bubbles spoke up next. "Thank you for doing this guys. We'll be waiting on the outside when you three get out so don't take too long okay."
Buttercup was silent until Blossom nudged her. "Look, I'll accept this so longs as you actually change from it." She pointed to Butch with a slight glare. "You're really strong now but it doesn't matter. Don't think I'm gonna slack off. When you get out, I want a fight. A good one! You'll see how strong I can be."
He stared at her before flashing a hint of a grin. "Whatever you say Buttercup."
With that, the boys were taken away to start their juvenile sentence. It would be rough but tolerable so long as they were together.
