Chapter One
It was a new beginning for Scully and Mulder after the loss of William. They had both agreed never to speak of the devastating events which had caused them to lose the teen boy they had loved with all their hearts along with the unspeakable truths they had been told regarding William's conception. In Scully's heart, Mulder would always be William's father. She loved and missed her son, but now it was time that she and Mulder leave the pain and confusion of the past behind them so they could fully embrace the future.
Scully was pregnant again and that was a miracle. Of course, it was unexplanable, just as William's conception had been. After an abduction years earlier, Scully had been extracted of all her ova. Even so, she had become pregnant with William.
With thoughts of her children William and Emily on her mind, Scully carried a box upstairs into what would soon become the baby's nursery. Her heart was fluttering in her chest, because she hoped things would be different this time. It just had to be! She and Mulder deserved some happiness after all the heartbreak.
Mulder joined her in the nursery, carrying a box of his own. "Scully?" he said, finding her deep in thought. "Is everything okay?"
"Everything's fine, Mulder. I was just thinking about the baby. OUR baby. And this house. I just love this house. It's perfect for us, don't you think?"
"I love it and I knew it was the one for us too, the minute I saw it."
"It's not haunted, is it?" she gasped.
"Why would you ask that?"
"Because you love that sort of thing. A haunted house would be YOUR dream come true!"
"Scully, this house isn't haunted," he said with a shrug. "At least I don't think it is."
"Oh thank God!" Scully said as she placed her hand upon her chest while leaning back against the wall.
"You are so nervous and jumpy. Are you sure nothing's wrong?"
"It's the ultrasound, Mulder - the ultrasound tomorrow morning. What if the baby... What if our baby...?"
"Hey, hey," he said softly, catching her in his arms to soothe her. "Our baby is going to be absolutely fine." He kissed the top of her head as Scully struggled to hold back her tears.
Xxxooo
Scully and Mulder lay in bed together inside their Victorian home. She snuggled up to his side as he pulled a blanket over them to ward off the cold. "You're so cute and cuddly, Scully," he said as he kissed the tip of her nose.
"Are you trying to sweet-talk me, Mulder?"
"Maybe."
She laughed softly. "This place isn't so bad - for being around 200 hundred years old."
"All new electricity and plumbing does that to house. For some reason, the former tenants left all of their furniture behind."
She tensed a little in his arms. "Didn't you find that strange, Mulder?"
"Clearly not. Who'd want to leave this place? It's our forever home."
No sooner had the words left his mouth when the air became as chilled as ice. They both saw the luminescent figure of a ghostly woman standing at the end of the bed. "Mulder," Scully whispered urgently. "Is that a...?"
"It's a ghost. Probably one of the previous owners. We should investigate."
"Ohhh no! We are moving out of this place! I told you - NO ghosts!"
"How was I supposed to know this house was haunted?"
"We are leaving first thing in the morning," she said as she hid her face against his chest so she wouldn't have to look at the apparation.
"Yeah, we are," he replied. "For the ultrasound."
