They'd figured out how to work and control the machine and not a moment too soon. Anubis was approaching Dakara.
"The energy wave it produces can penetrate energy shields. We figured that much out, which is what can make it a formidable weapon." Alexander said. "Those ships heading for Dakara won't stand a chance, but neither will the people on board them. The energy wave will affect them as well."
"Will it affect Anubis?" Bra'tec asked.
"Yes, because energy can be changed from one state to another. But I don't know what that change would be. He's half Ascended. Half living energy, half physical form. The physical part will be reduced, the other half, the energy part. I'm a soldier, not a scientist, I can't even begin to guess."
"Actually, if I'm understanding these readings right, it will cancel his energy out. Like two ocean waves crashing into each other." Carter said. *
A sudden clap of ear ringing noise and the ground shook.
"We're being fired on! We're out of time!" Carter yelled.
"We must act!" Bra'tec responded.
"Yes, we do." Alexander answered. "Powering the weapon. It'll take a moment to build up and discharge."
Teal'C came running in. "The top of the mountain is opening up and something is emerging!"
"The weapon is about to fire!" Alexander called back. "It's a good thing we had our ships move behind the moon, they'll be safe there. I've aimed it to discharge into orbit."
Teal'C peered out of the entrance to the chamber and looked up. "A blue energy wave is being fired now."
"I'm no longer reading any ships in orbit." Alexander reported. "It looks like it worked." Bra'tec and Carter followed Teal'C out to see for themselves and Alexander turned to Johnathan and spoke quietly. "This weapon doesn't require a mental interface nor does it use the genetic key. I have no idea why it wasn't properly secured. Write a security program for it. Lock it up and do it fast. This weapon is too dangerous for just anyone to be able to access and use. I'm going to tell them it's just like all the other Alteran tech. That it requires an Alteran to use it. "
"I'll just modify one of the Altimah's security programs. It won't take long."
"I'll buy you time. I need to talk to Bra'tec anyway. He can speak for the Free Jaffa." And Alexander left the chamber.
"Bra'tec, we must speak." He said formally.
"Speak, my friend."
"We both have claim to this world. You though blood and me though history. I grant the Jaffa all but the mountain and the weapon it contains. And any other Alteran technology encountered on this world. It is of little use to you as it is anyway, since only an Alteran can use it. If Dakara is attacked again, I will fight at your side as allies, but this was quite possibly the last and greatest achievement of Discenna and belongs to my people and I will speak for them, as you speak for yours."
"If we are unable to use it ourselves, then it is of little use to us anyway. That you would use it on our behalf is acceptable. Will you allow it to be studied?"
"Only while I or a representative are present. I am going to secure the chamber when we leave. If I am unable to return and you lose Dakara, I will not let the Gou'ald have it. If one attempts to enter the chamber, the weapon will be destroyed."
"A wise precaution. The Free Jaffa will honor your request."
"Thank you."
He returned to the chamber.
"Just finishing." Johnathan reported.
"Good. I'm going to put up a force field at the entrance to the chamber. Then we can go home and finally celebrate."
"Congratulations, by the way." Johnathan said.
"Thank you. You know we spent centuries hoping and now it's actually happened and I can't sort out my feelings. Fear and excitement and wonder and determination to protect them."
"I'm pretty sure we're all feeling some of that. You've said we're family often enough. Oz said we're Uncles now."
"You are. Let's go, I can't wait any longer, I need to see Corda." Johnathan followed Alexander out and Oz met them at the entrance.
"You don't talk much but always seem to know just what needs saying." Alexander commented when he saw Oz. "Or doing." When he saw Oz had rigged a force field generator.
"Safe." Oz said.
"See what I mean?" Alexander joked to Johnathan, who just chuckled and nodded. The three of them set up the generator and Alexander activated it.
"Bra'tec, I would stay to celebrate this victory with you, but I have my own joy to celebrate. I must return to Earth and Corda."
"I understand, my friend. We will not hold it against you."
"If you have need of me, call the SGC. General O'Neill knows how to get ahold of me."
"I will. Safe journey, my friend."
"And you as well."
Once the three of them were back aboard the Altimah, each took their accustomed seat. "We'll do a scan from orbit, see if anything stands out." Alexander said. "I hope Carter's right and we canceled Anubis out, but it doesn't hurt to double check."
"I'm not finding anything unusual." Johnathan reported a few minutes later.
"Neither am I. It seems to have worked. Setting course for Earth. Let's go home guys."
"Home." Oz said.
"You know, I could've got a nice safe job in some tech company and spent all my time in a lab somewhere. Live and die in a little room and never experience life." Johnathan said. "Have I thanked you for saving me from that, Alexander?"
"You don't have to. I think we're all better off then we would have been otherwise."
A/N This is pretty much how Kvasir explained what the Sangraal would do to the Ori. Merlin had to get the idea from somewhere. I'm going with the idea that the Sangraal was a portable version.
