Lissa Graymark

I don't know how I ended up back here but I was drowning in Lake Lyn again. It could have been seconds, minutes or even hours but the darkness didn't take over like last time. I waited for it. Death. I could see it coming. I didn't hold the Visionary title for no reason.

When my time finally drew to a close, the shadows took over my sight and the visions took over for the first time in a long while.

Figures in black rushing to battle.

You won't be able to stop this.

A fight between siblings.

It's destiny.

Downworlders dying.

It's their time.

More shadowhunter deaths.

It's your time.

Ithuriel.

I warned you.

"Hey, hey, hey! Hey! It's okay," I flinched back into the pillows as someone grabbed my shoulders, shaking me firmly, "Wake up. Wake up."

I let out a short scream when I opened my eyes to see Jace's body get thrown to the end of the bed.

"It was just a bad dream," he grumbled from his position on his back.

I grabbed my robe that lay on the floor by the bed and rushed to his side, helping him up.

"Oh my god, Jace are you alright?" He simply nodded before pulling me back under the covers, "Where did you go?"

"I went to check on the sword," he informed me as he pulled me back against his chest, "Are you all right?"

"Yeah. I, uh..." I snuggled into his chest as I thought back to what I was dreaming about, "I was back at Lake Lyn. Underwater. Drowning..."

He grasped my hands, giving them a reassuring squeeze, "Well, you're all right now."

"You know, everything that happened back at the lake, I..." I shook my head trying to clear my blurry thoughts as sleep threatened to overwhelm me again, "I can't get it out of my head."

"It's not exactly top on my vacation list, either."

I paused slightly, not sure how to continue, "Were you serious about…"

He stopped playing with my fingers and instead wrapped his arms around me, pulling me into a deep hug as he whispered reassurances in my ear, "It's okay. I'm here… I'm never going to leave your side."

"You won't always be…" I mumbled sleepily.

"Of course I-"

I unfortunately fell asleep before he could continue.

"The Clave and I are very impressed with your progress," I greeted the youngest Lightwood when he entered my office with his elder brother.

Max looks at Alec in confusion.

"They think you're ready for your first mission," Alec informed him when he turned his confused look in his direction.

I couldn't help but smile at the eagerness that shook his tiny body, "What do you think?"

"I've been ready since the day I got here," I smiled at those words.

I shared a quick look with Alec before nodding towards the door, "Well then, you better get your butt over to training."

"You know how much our sister hates tardiness," Alec called after his retreating form.

I smiled at the duo who entered my office, "Any sign of Jonathan?"

"Hmmm," I couldn't help but be surprised at the kiss that Jace greeted me with.

A quick peak at Alec had me instantly blushing. I promise it wasn't my fault but the flames in the fire place suddenly increased in volume too. And I guess Jace was embarrassed by his impulsive actions too because he hastily stepped away before coughing and replying with a simple, "No."

"We tracked the box itself, But..." I nudged Alec, my eyes fixed at the door where Max still stood. We both turned our attention to him, causing Jace to stop speaking. We waited until he was gone before I indicated for Jace to continue, "-it was a dead end."

"So Valentine sent Duncan to steal a pair of baby booties?" Alec asked them.

"Someone did," Jace shrugged, "Someone who wanted to circumvent us from tracking Jonathan."

"And now we have no leads on either of them," Clary put forward her two cents, "We've got nothing."

"Actually, we have less than nothing," Alec paused before turning his attention to me, "There's something you should know. The Clave has been spreading the rumour that they are in possession of the Soul Sword."

"Why?" Clary asked in confusion, "What's the point in lying this entire time?"

"A way to seem more powerful than they are," Jace explained, "Wouldn't be the first time."

"The Clave is trying to prevent an uprising," Alec tried to defend them.

"If the Downworld finds out that I have the Soul Sword, there would be total chaos," I stepped away from them, moving to the other side of my desk. I plonked down at my seat and massaged my temples as I felt another migraine starting, "-knowing that I could potentially still activate it."

"But it's you…" Clary tried to reassure me, "You would never use it on the Downworlders. Not in the way Valentine used it before."

"Thanks for the vote of confidence," I smiled weakly at her, "-but they may worry when they hear about-" I flicked my finger, causing the door. "I hope this works," I went through the motions of silencing the room. When I was sure no one could hear us, I continued, "When I saw Ithuriel yesterday, he-" it felt like my throat was closing up as I thought back to his messages. I cleared my throat, "-he told me something."

"What did he say?" Jace asked as the trio joined me on the other side of the desk.

"Other than about Jonathon… he-" I coughed again, "…he told me that my blood is impure."

I flinched at the sight of Alec straightening his back and getting in a more defensive position, "What? What does he mean?"

"He said that as a child, Valentine would poison me with 'the blood of that of his name'," I cynically smiled at Jace and Clary, "-guess you weren't the only experiments he made."

"What does he mean?" Clary asked me in confusion.

I simply shrugged, "I've been thinking about it all day but I just draw a blank."

"Lucifer," Jace suddenly spoke up.

"Did you just call me Satan-?" I looked up at him in disbelief, moving to rise from my seated position.

"Jace is right," was Alec's answer.

"Excuse you?" I couldn't help but be triggered by their words. I gasped as my clenched fists were suddenly alight once again. "Fuck."

"No Lis," Jace said to me as he joined my side, "-'the blood of that of his name,' Morgernstern means morning star and the only angel who that refers to is Lucifer."

"How did he get Lucifer's blood?"

"Good question," I responded to Alec with a shrug as I sagged slightly, "At least it's still angelic blood. I was worried it was demon blood. "

"But why you?" Clary asked, "Why Lucifer?"

"Why does Valentine do anything he does?" Jace asked rhetorically.

"Did he say anything else?" Alec asked me in concern.

As a child, Valentine poisoned you constantly with the blood of that of his name. Your blood is impure, child. I told you this before.

Ithuriel-

You've fought it for so long but returning to the shadow world and using his powers will only darken your bloodline more.

What? I need to know more, Ithuriel, please-

"No," I responded as the lights began to flicker.

"That would explain why you were able to counteract the Sword's power that night," Jace recalled to us.

"And why your powers have grown so much…" Clary continued.

"This can't get out to the Downworld," Alec suddenly spoke up, "If people find out you have the powers equivalent of a nuclear bomb, and you possess the sword. Then they would definitely revolt."

A nudge on my side had me looking in Jace's direction. I couldn't help but sigh at the look he was giving me.

"And the Cup," Jace informed them.

"What?" I stepped back at the unworldly screech Alec emitted.

"I've had the real cup the entire time," I told them as I stepped behind Jace slightly.

"What do you mean real cup?" Clary asked us.

"Mum made a decoy and gave me the real one the night you found out about the Shadow world."

"So this whole time…" Alec trailed off.

"Lissa has had the Cup?" he smirked, "Yep."

"And you never told anyone?" I could hear the anger behind Alec's voice.

"I told the Inquisitor the last time she was here."

"Only then?"

"It's not like this is something you can just write to them, Alec!" I defended myself.

"Plus with a mole around, it was best to keep it a secret," Jace backed me up.

"I get that but why keep the Shadow World so unaware," Clary asked us.

I sighed as I tried to defend my actions, "I didn't tell them about the Cup because I am sure that there are members of the Circle in the Clave."

"WHAT?!"

"That's a big accusation," Jace told me after Alec's outburst.

"Before my Visionary powers were blocked…" I tried to explain as I paced the floor of my office, "-although with the emergence of Lucifer's powers that makes sense why it's blocked Castiel's gifts…" I shook my head, focussing on one topic at a time, "I kept getting snippets of a mole. I couldn't risk-"

"The Cup falling into the wrong hands," he cut me off, "I get that. Where is the cup now?"

"Safe," I responded. At his look, I elaborated, "Here, in the institute."

"This whole time?" I nodded at Clary's question. "Wow… we've all been running around like headless chickens and here you are…" she waved her hand in my direction, "…ten steps ahead. So that's two Mortal instruments taken care of. Wait…" she turned to me, "-why does Valentine still want the sword if it's been deactivated?"

"Because it's still a Mortal Instrument," Jace explained to her, "If you combine it with the other two Mortal Instruments the cup and the mirror he could use it to raise the Angel Raziel."

"This is too much information in one go…" she shook her head with a rough laugh. "I thought that was just a legend."

"Well, the legends are true," Alec informed her curtly, "The Angel will grant him one wish. Anything he wants."

"The end of the Downworld as we know it," Clary intoned sadly.

We all spun around as the door was slammed open, breaking the spells on it, "I need to talk to Alec and Allie."

I shared a look with the others. Silently telling them to not tell anyone else what we've talked about and that we'll talk about this again later. I nodded at the duo, signalling for them to leave.

"You're not sending our little brother out into the field," Izzy shouted as she slammed the door behind them.

"You know better than anyone how good Max is," I calmly responded, "His simulation scores are off the charts."

"That's a simulation," she argued, "I'm talking about the real world."

"Max has had his rune ceremony," Alec continued to argue, "It's standard to get orders after that. Just like we did when we were his age."

"It was different back then," Izzy stormed up to us, "We weren't fighting Valentine."

"Izzy..."

"You weren't there that night with Kaelie," she cut me off, "He came this close to dying."

"Max is a soldier," he told her firmly, "It's time we start treating him like one."

I gave her a resolute nod, agreeing with his words before leading the way out of the office.

"What the- don't you guys know how to knock?" I sarcastically asked as the golden trio and their warlock friend made their way into my office a few hours later. The door snapped shut with a loud crack. I couldn't help but sigh at the sight, another door to fix.

"Hello Lily," Dot softly said as she approached me.

I got up from my seat behind my desk and reached up to give her a hug.

"What's happened now?" I asked them when she released me from the hug.

Dot held out her wrist showing me the sigil tattooed on it, "I think something terrible's happened to Elliot, and I'm worried I might be next."

"Elliot? As in Elliot Nourse?" I asked her in confusion, "What's mum's old warlock best friend got to do with anything?" I traced the mark, "The mark on your arm is part of a protection spell."

"It's a sigil," she confirmed to me, turning to the trio that she entered the room with, "It only transfers to another warlock if something terrible has happened."

"Whatever he's guarding must be pretty important," Alec acknowledged.

After sharing a look with Dot, the redhead revealed that, "It's the Mortal Mirror."

I kept my face grim, not letting anything slip through.

"Jocelyn had it?" Jace commented.

"I know it's crazy," Clary was saying.

Knowing it wasn't good to keep more secrets from them, I opened my mouth, "That's not possible…"

"The mirror and the cup," but I was cut off, "I know but I guess my mom knew Elliot would do anything to keep it safe. As a warlock, he could protect it better than anyone, right? So she entrusted him with its location."

"And Elliot entrusted it to me," Dot added on.

I sighed, raising my hand to pause the conversation, "But that's not-"

"So you know the current location of the Mortal Mirror?" Alec cut me off.

"Sort of," the warlock responded, "These lines coordinate to specific Ley lines in the city. I can figure it out, but it'll take some time."

I sighed as Alec continued, "We have maps of all the Ley lines. We can help you."

I huffed in annoyance, giving up on telling them. Fine. Let them go on a wild goose chase for this 'Mirror'. I hope they didn't notice the lights suddenly flickering.

"And we can protect you-" Jace was saying, "-from Jonathan and Valentine. With those marks on your wrist, it's only a matter of time before they come after you.

"Jace and I will go to Elliot's shop," Clary decided as she turned her full attention to Dot, grasping her hand, "See what happened. You'll be safe here."

"Lissa, you coming?" Jace asked me as they moved to leave the room.

"Why?" I asked them from my position at my desk.

"Uh…" was his intelligent response.

"We could use your help," Clary butted in.

I sighed heavily… I can't believe I need to actually leave today. I better change into something appropriate this time. "Fine. Let me get my stuff," I told them as I walked past.

"Be careful," Alec told me.

After a quick change of clothes, I was pushed to the exit and led towards Elliot's shop.

The whole walk there didn't prepare me for the sight that greeted me.

He was left there, splayed towards the back of the shop, blood smeared all over his face.

"Oh, Elliot..." Clary cried out as I knelt beside his body, saying a quick prayer for the dead.

"Lis, will you calm down," I blinked up at him in confusion as he continued, "…things are going flying…" I flinched at an object that came hurtling in my direction, "If a mundane walks by, we won't be able to explain it."

I nodded anxiously and remained focussed on getting my powers in control as Jace began to look around.

"You see these marks?" he asked Clary, "A demon was here. He was tortured," Jace continued as I closed Elliot's eyes,

"But this isn't murder," I spoke softly as I rose from my position, "He killed himself."

"What? How can you tell?" Clary turned her attention to me.

"The blood from his eyes," I revealed to her, "I've seen a similar case before. It's a warlock incantation. It's basically their version of a cyanide capsule."

"I'm sorry," he said.

At the sound of glass crunching under approaching footsteps, my hand immediately went to my side and grabbed at the bottom of my bow that I had on my back.

"Hi," the figure said.

Jace barely relaxed his stance as I released my hold on my bow, "Hey."

"Seb?" I asked as Clary and I approached the duo. When we got to Jace's side, he immediately grasped my hand, pulling me slightly towards him, "What are you doing here?"

"I, uh..." he began to stutter, "I saw the alert at the Institute. Is everything under control?"

"We're still not one hundred percent sure what happened," Jace told him, "There was a demon presence here, but something doesn't add up."

"Oh my God," Clary suddenly gasped out, "It's Jonathan."

"How do you know that?" I asked her curiously.

"The flowers..." she indicated something behind us, "Mom shared a memory from when Jonathan was a baby. He'd done the exact same thing. And that Grey demon ichor, that's how Valentine described the aftermath of Jonathan's childhood kills. Jonathan was here."

"Sorry, who's, uh... who's Jonathan?" Sebastian asked us.

"Her brother," I told him, pointing my head in Clary's direction.

"He must be after the Mortal Mirror. If he comes after it again, I'm gonna have to deal with him," Jace spoke up.

I let go of his hand as I stared up at him in confusion, "What does that mean?"

"It means I'm gonna do anything in my power to protect the mirror."

"You'll kill him?" Clary's horrified tone practically echoed throughout the shop as I stared at him in disbelief.

"If that's what it takes," he said nodding, "Yeah."

"You don't even know if Jonathan's doing this on his own." I defended the poor guy because he wasn't here to defend themselves, "He could be under Valentine's influence."

"Yeah, the Princess'-"

"-Alicia, Seb I told you this,"

"-got a point. I mean, what if Valentine's forcing him to do his bidding?"

"Yeah. OK, look," he said looking at all of us before focussing on me, "I know exactly what it's like to be manipulated by Valentine. Probably better than anyone. You know, Clary, you read those journals. Jonathan Morgenstern is a demon-blooded monster who is responsible for the death of your friend. An innocent warlock."

"Remember what Valentine made you do," I softly responded.

"I don't have demon blood," he retorted.

"Just think about it, Jace." I grasped his hand, squeezing it tightly, "You can't go around accusing a guy you've never met. You've never met him so as far as you know, he could be innocent. Innocent until proven guilty. remember?" I gave him a pointed look.

"And Jace, Valentine has manipulated us both," Clary reminded him, "What if Jonathan is just his latest victim?"

I nodded along, "We don't have any facts. And until we do, no one is getting killed."

"Yeah, I suppose the, uh..." Seb piped up, "the priority right now should be finding that mirror."

"Thank you, Seb," I acknowledged him, "We need to head back to the institute to tell Alec."

"Thanks," Dot was saying as we walked into Alec's office.

"It's Jonathan. My brother," Clary greeted them, "He's the one who came after Elliot."

"He's after the mirror," Jace said.

"Sebastian," Alec acknowledged the last member of our party. "Thanks, but we're good here."

"If I can be of any assistance, I'd be happy to help," I smiled at him as Alec rebuffed his offer.

"Thank you. But we've got it covered."

He gave a hesitant nod as he began to back away, "Sure."

"Thanks, Seb!" I called after him.

The sound of Jace's voice had me turning back around, "Thanks, Seb!"

I rolled my eyes, jabbing my elbow in his side, "Shut up, Jay…"

"If I didn't know any better, I'd say you liked him," Jace grumbled back to me.

If I continuously roll my eyes will they eventually fall out?

"Well you don't know any better so you can zip it."

"And if I don't?" he challenged.

I floundered, not really expecting him to carry on with the argument, "-Then you can sleep on the couch."

"Jace," I turned at the sound of Alec's snort. "-if you're acting like this with him just helping out, I wonder how you reacted when he asked her out."

"What?" I think I was deafened by his screech.

"Alec," I couldn't help but grumble in annoyance.

"Woah!" Clary turned to me with a massive smile, "Sebastian asked you out?"

"He did what?" Jace asked in his lower more normal pitch tone.

"Sebastian," Dot smirked at the hunter by my side, "-that boy that just left, asked Lily out."

"Oh my god," I shook my head at them, "Can we move on-"

"Why didn't you tell Izzy and I?" Clary interrupted me.

"Better yet, why didn't you tell me?" Jace butted in.

"Thanks a lot, Alec," I sighed giving him a tired look.

I couldn't help but forgive him when he gave me the most adorable sheepish look. "Sorry, I thought you told him."

"Can we move on, please?" I spoke over the still talking duo.

"Uhhh, no. I wanna know why Alec knew and I didn't?" Clary asked in disbelief.

"Same," Jace argued.

"Because he's there whenever I'm talking to Magnus about these things," I confessed, hoping to get this conversation over with.

"Magnus knew and I didn't?" he asked in disbelief.

"And Simon knows, are we all happy now?" I asked them sarcastically. I barely even flinched at the sight of my lamp suddenly flying into the wall. "Ugh, now I'm gonna need a new lamp. I really liked that lamp."

Clary chose to pay attention to the important points of the conversation, "Simon knows?"

"No," Jace answered my rhetorical question, "Definitely not."

"Yeah I'm going then. Bye."

"Lis!"

"Lils!"

"Nope," I said.

Finally having enough of this conversation, I turned to Dot who immediately waved her hand, opening a portal. "Thanks!"

"Lils?" my favourite vampire greeted me with a question.

"Hey Si-" I smiled brightly at him before rushing over to give him a hug. When I caught sight of Izzy and Max, I reached over to greet them too "How's training the young Padawan doing?"

"What?" the youngest asked me in confusion.

"Don't tell me you don't know what a Jedi is. Um..." I couldn't help but giggle at the look of complete and utter disgust Simon had on his face, "Izzy, what type of trainer are you? This is important stuff, man! All right, last one back to the boat basin is an Imperial Gonk droid." I stared on in amusement as I caught sight of Maia's approaching figure, "And you don't wanna be that guy! Hey..." I shared a humorous look with Izzy as he ran into the she-wolf, "Hey."

"Are all vampires this weird?" Max asked us.

"Definitely not," I giggled at his look of bafflement.

"Come on," Izzy said as she nudged her brother from the room. I watched as he headed on ahead whilst we stopped to greet Maia, "I don't think we've actually met. I'm Isabelle Lightwood."

"Are you taking her on a boat ride?" Maia asked her with a raised eyebrow.

"What? No. No! No, of course not. Izzy and I are friends. We're helping her brother Max train, and then we stopped to get a bite to eat..."

"Stop talking," Izzy quietly spoke as she put her leather jacket on.

Simon seemed to think this was excellent advise because he immediately did as she said, "…that's it."

"I will see you later," the werewolf told us before quickly walking away.

"Yeah. See you," he awkwardly waved his hands as he called after her.

"I better go after Max, we'll see you in a second," Izzy told us before she too left us.

I nodded after her before linking my arm with Simon's and leading him outside for some privacy, "Wanna tell me what that was about?"

"What?"

"That," I pointed my thumb in the direction we just came from, "In there. You and Maia."

"There is no me and Maia."

I held him back, preventing him from escaping me, "Simon, you can't possibly be that clueless. Okay? She likes you. It's obvious."

"She doesn't like me," he disagreed with a frown, crossing his arms, "When a girl likes you and you ask her out, most of the time she doesn't say no."

I matched his frown, looking up at him, "She didn't tell you why?"

"No. She just told me she had a lot going on."

"That's your problem," I sighed as I released my grip on his arm, placing my hands on my waist, "There's obviously something more that she's not telling you."

"After the whole Seelie Court business, I'm done chasing girls who only want to be my friend." I withheld the urge to flinch at the reminder of that place.

"I didn't take you for a quitter," I sighed.

"Easy for you to say. You still have the blonde superman and the new guy at your side."

I rolled my eyes, not believing I'd have to discuss this again, "Don't you start about Seb as well."

"Well, when was the last time you got shot down?"

I couldn't help but give him a warning glare.

"Alright fine but look," he chuckled darkly as he shoved his hands in his pockets, "I'm just gonna stick to things I'm good at. Like... getting my ass kicked by a twelve-year-old."

I stilled at the sight of a portal opening not that far in front of us. I tensed, activating my blade as I moved to be in front of Simon.

I relaxed and lowered my weapon as soon as I caught sight of Jace stepping through the portal.

"And here's your number one blonde." He rolled his eyes, barely even nodding at the blonde before giving me a quick kiss on the top of my head, "See you later Lils."

"Still can't believe he knew before me…" I glared at Jace when I heard those words leave his mouth, "Fine. Dot thinks she found it." were his last words before he pulled me back through into the portal.

As soon as we arrived in the institute, I shot a text Izzy's way to get her to talk to Maia for me, annoyed that I didn't get the opportunity to help my best friend out a little more.

"So you've narrowed it down to these three locations," Jace asked Dot as he led me to the screen they were congregated at.

"Yes. Here. Here and here." Dot said as she enlarge the image.

"Wait a minute..." Clary said as she pointed at one of the locations, "-that's the park mom used to take me when we were little. Mom and I used to go there when I was a kid. She'd pack a picnic, watch me sketch for hours. It was our place." I nodded, thinking back to my own little hideout that mom used to take me when she wanted to bond with only the two of us present. "She hid it somewhere I'd remember... just in case. It's gotta be there."

I mean Jocelyn must have a reason to lead us there. I wonder what clue she's planted there this time…

I headed back to my office to get ready for the mission. I was surprised when a knock interrupted my preparation.

"Uh, hi," I was greeted by Seb when I opened the door.

"Hey, Sebastian. Um..." I paused, confused about why he was there. "I'm sorry, I'm just heading out on a mission."

I backed away into my room to grab my jacket.

"Oh, sure," I heard him enter my room, "Yeah. I actually..." I turned to him as I put my jacket on, "I just wanted to... make sure you were okay…" he held his hand out to me, "and to give you your tonic."

"I'm fine and you gave me one during my session earlier," I grabbed the tonic from him reluctantly.

"I know but because you're about to go on a mission," he smiled at me, "I figured you may need it."

I nodded with a small smile before downing the drink.

"Look," he continued to say, "I saw how upset you were today. I'm really sorry about your friend."

"I keep losing the people that I care about," I couldn't help but tear up at the thought of Elliot's passing. "One after the other. It... it has to stop."

"And you're worried that, um... now Jonathan's back, that it... that it's not going to."

I shrugged, "I don't know. Clary has no one left." I couldn't help but wince at the thought of my lost relationship with my sister, "I was hoping that with the return of her real brother, she'd finally feel more complete after all that she's lost. I mean, Jace thinks that her brother's a lost cause." I couldn't help but sigh at the mess that was our family.

"What do you think?" he asked me.

"I mean, I understand he has demon blood, I know what he's capable of, but..." I paused, trying to gather my thoughts, "...but he's her brother. If he's related to people as amazing as mom, I uh mean Jocelyn and Clary, then I'm sure that he's just as good a person." I gave a watery laugh as I looked up at him, "God, that's stupid, right?"

"Oh, no. No! God, it's not stupid at all!"

I cut off his reassurances, "And if there's any humanity left in him, shouldn't we at least try to save him?"

"I think so."

I smiled at him as I blinked the tears away.

Next thing I know he had grabbed me into a kiss. I heard the light bulb burst as I stood there in shock.

When I finally got over my shock, I pushed him away, "Sebastian..."

"Oh, I'm sorry." He immediately apologised as he stepped away, "That was stupid."

"It's... it's just, I'm not..." I couldn't help but stutter as I stepped further away from him.

"No, no, look, I... I get it." I held a finger up at him to pause his progress when he tried to walk back over. "I just want you to know that I will..." He sighed as he continued, "...I'll always be there for you, Alicia. Whatever you need."

"Lils?" Clary's sudden appearance stopped me from responding, "You read-"

"Yeah…" I hastily responded as I side stepped Sebastian. "I'll see you later Sebastian," I said with a nod as I walked after Clary.

"Why was Sebastian-" she began to ask me.

"Not now…" I grumbled back to her as I walked past.

"Woah, woah! Wait," she called after me. "Do you wanna talk?" she asked when she caught up to me.

I side eyed her, before hesitantly speaking, "We're about to go on a mission…"

"It can wait if you're not in the right state of mind." I flinched slightly when she gave me her old big sister look, "What happened?"

"Seb just kissed me…" I told her hurriedly.

"What?"

"Shhh," I quickly stepped over to cover her mouth as I continued to whisper, "We were talking like we usually do and he just leaned in and-"

"Well, are you gonna tell Jace?" she whisper-yelled in response.

"Of course I am," I gave her an offended look, "But not before this important mission-"

"Tell me what?"

I jumped slightly when Jace suddenly joined our conversation.

"Hey sweetie," I gave him a quick kiss before then giving Clary a pointed look, "I'll tell you later."

I groaned as I stepped through the portal.

I miss travelling through my own portals.

I followed after Dot as she led the way through the park.

"You know, Clary, what I said..." Jace started to say to Clary as they followed behind me, "-earlier, about Jonathan."

"No, it's okay," she responded, "You don't have to apologise."

"I'm not apologising," he curtly told her.

"He's the only family I have left," she told him.

Jace sighed before responding, "You may not consider me family, but I care about you," I turned around in annoyance, only to see that they had stopped following us. "-as Lissa's sister," he continued. "Look, if she's ever in any danger, I'm gonna do whatever it takes to keep her safe. If that means Jonathan has to die, so be it."

"Clary!" Dot called her over to us, "The Ley Line intersection's close."

We followed after Dot into the gazebo in the middle of the park.

"It's here," Dot announced.

"Do you see something?" I asked as I looked around.

I watched in confusion as she stepped towards the statue, an arm raised, "No vis valentes parte antour valenena."

"That's it, isn't it?" Clary asked when Dot spun around holding something in her hand, "That's the Mortal Mirror."

That's not possible… the Mortal Mirror is in Idris? What have you done now Mom?

"Okay, let's go," Jace announced.

I couldn't help the scream that I released when I spun around to see Jace go flying because of a thing. Everyone and everything suddenly went flying away from me.

"Oh my god-" I gasped as I stared at my hands in horror.

I stumbled back in fear as the thing suddenly appeared in front of me again.

"Lils..." I heard a yell, "LISSA, RUN!"

The thing disappeared in the blink of an eye and suddenly had a blade pressed against my boyfriend's neck.

"NO, DON'T!" I demanded. Clary grabbed my arm before I could run to Jace's side.

"You're Jonathan, aren't you?" she asked him.

Really? That's her brother?

"You're my brother." Clary tried to talk him down. "You don't want to hurt me. If you hurt Jace, that's exactly what you'll be doing."

"This is what you came for, isn't it?" I yanked my arm from her grip, holding up the 'mirror'. "You can take this and go. Or..." I flickered my eyes down to Jace who was on the floor and my sister who was by my side, "-you can come with us. We can help you."

"Whatever Valentine's told you, it's lies," Clary continued.

"Whatever happened in the past, whatever you've done, it doesn't matter. You saw what I just did, right?" I gestured towards the gazebo that didn't even have a roof anymore, "I didn't mean that… If I'm not a monster, neither are you…" I shared a shaky smile with Clary before turning back to Jonathon, "You're family."

The moment was gone as soon as I was yanked backwards.

"Take the mirror and go, girls!" Dot told us as she pushed us towards a portal she had just opened.

I turned back to where Jonathon was but he was now halfway across the park.

"No! Not without you!" Clary argued as I helped Jace off the ground.

"It's the only way to protect the mirror. GO!" she told us.

"DOT, NO!" I marched up to her, only to be yanked towards the portal.

"Come on!" Jace ordered me as I got pulled through the portal with Clary.

"No. No!" I screamed as we arrived in the institute. I released a whimper as I stared at the cracks in the columns of the institute that had formed because of my scream.

"Oh my god," I stared around in horror, "What's happening to me?"

"Lis…" Jace tried to walk towards me.

"No," I hurried backwards, "Don't. Please." I stared at the two of them in fear, "I don't want to hurt you guys."

What kind of monster am I?
