The first thing Alexander did once he'd parked the Altimah and the three of them had cleared the checkpoint was find Corda. She was waiting in Jack's office, alone.
"Carter came through already and reported." She told him. "She and Jack are talking to her father. His symbiote isn't well."
He held her close and said. "We'll help them, but first, I need to hold you both for a moment." He put his hand on her stomach. "Mentally, we're Alteran, physically we're the descendants of Alterans. We didn't stop to think what that meant in terms of children. We can have more, but that doesn't change the wonder of this one."
"Shifting our thinking like that, on top of everything else we've had to deal with in the last three years? We're lucky we've been able to adapt as much as we have."
"True. Welcome to our lives, little one. Your arrival has been greatly hoped and prayed for." Alexander said formally, in welcome.
Corda placed her hand over his. "We welcome you with love and joy." She finished the blessing, one long used and never forgotten by their people.
After a moment, Alexander stepped back. "I still have to report to Jack and there are a few things I need to talk to all of you about. Let's go find them and then see what we can do about helping Carter's dad and his symbiote."
She nodded and followed him out.
"Jack, I need to talk to you." Alexander said, once they arrived in the infirmary.
"Not until you've had your physical too." Dr Frazer said sternly. "It's standard procedure when someone's been off world. Your friends exams are done, now it's your turn."
"You do know that our scanning equipment is better then any procedure or test you could do, right? If there was something wrong with me, my equipment would already know."
"I don't care, you're in my domain now, buster!"
"Give up it, Alexander." Jack advised. "No one wins against Frazer and it really is standard procedure. Even I can't get out of it and I've been trying for years."
"The sooner we can get medical equipment reverse engineered, the better." Alexander grumbled and followed the short woman in heels into an exam room.
"While he's enduring the tortures of Dr. Frazer, Jacob, I can take you to our ship and introduce you to a healing stasis pod." Corda offered.
"I'd like to go with." Carter said. "I've haven't had a chance to see it in action, besides he's my father and I'm worried about him."
"And you want to see the inside their ship." Jacob said dryly.
"Okay, so that's a bonus." Carter agreed and two of them followed Corda out to where the Altimah was parked.
"Since you're conscious, I'll just have you put the healing suit on. If you were unconscious, it would be activated so that it formed around you. The suit will destroy anything that could cause an infection and will hold you immobile. The pod will induce a deep state of not quite unconsciousness, more like a deep meditative state. Then it will activate an artificial and enhanced version of the energy we use to heal." Corda them. "Given how sick Selmak is, you will probably be in there for about half an hour. The pod will signal when recovery is complete."
"It can't revive the dead, can it?" Carter asked.
"No. Definitely not. We do everything we can to prevent death, but once death has occured, we believe we must accept it as a necessary part of life."
"Because without death, life has little meaning." Carter said.
"It is a belief we share as well. It's one of the reasons why Ascension doesn't make sense to either myself or Alexander. It seems to be something many of our people forgot."
She helped Jacob into the pod and closed it and activated it.
"Now we wait. I have had to wait like this while Alexander was healed. During the war, he nearly lost an arm, twice."
By the time Selmak was healed and 'feeling fifty again' in her own words, which made everyone laugh, Alexander's exam was done and they all met up in the conference room, minus Jacob, who had left to report to the Tok'ra.
"There's some things about that weapon that I didn't tell the Jaffa." Alexander reported. "First, it hadn't been properly secured. Johnathan put a security program in place and Oz rigged a force field generator. I told Bra'tec, I claimed it and all Alteran tech on that planet on behalf of the Alterans and that only an Alteran can work it. He agreed and I ceded the rest of planet to the Free Jaffa. He asked if it could be studied and I told him only if I or a representative was there, since I don't want the Gou'ald to try to take it, the security protocols will kill anyone not cleared for entry."
"Probably a good idea." Jack said. "Anything else?"
"Yes, we know our people made sure that there were no daemona on Earth before they left, but we had no idea how they did that. That weapon uses an artificial form of the energy of a world. The energy of every world is slightly different. That machine can be modified to the specific frequency of Earth's energy. Directed through the Stargate, it could theoretically, pierce the shield vampires use to protect themselves from Earth's energy. Destroying them."
"You're sure about that?" Jack asked.
"It can bypass the shields that protect a ship, it should be able to bypass a vampires shield as well."
"Then we can destroy the largest number of daemona on Earth. The numbers of all the other kinds totaled, don't equal the number of vampires on Earth. We can end their threat. Then once all the tears have been found and sealed." Corda said. "We will hopefully never have to worry about them again. As long as we're vigilant and ensure no new tears are opened."
