Very very busy at the moment so this is a speed update so no replies to reviews but I love you guys so so much and please keep reviewing.
After the first half an hour or so of the journey Percy pulled away from Annabeth and Piper to join Carter and Sadie at the front of the boat, tucking herself into her sister's side and munching on the snacks that Carter and Sadie had brought with them, and which had been handed out to everyone on the boat as well- and she told them her story, told them how she'd been taken- of Desjardin's death- and she didn't shed a tear during that part. She blocked the grief off. She would allow it to come later. There was no other choice she could not show weakness, not now.
Then she explained how she'd received the prophecy. Her meeting with Artemis and Luke's change of heart. She told them about her daring escape- which had earned her twin disapproving looks from Carter and Sadie- though she knew they'd both deny the fact that they gave her matching looks until their faces turned blue. Neither of them liked the fact that she'd dragged Luke and Artemis and jumped off a cliff without access to her magic- though Carter did concede that her powers had clearly at least saved her life.
And she told them of the trip to Mykonos after they'd figure out their next steps. Of her journey through the caverns, the hidden chambers, the discovery of the Scythe and how she'd overpowered the magic in it, at least for now she had.
Sadie at least had found that amusing. Had been proud of her as she'd ruffled the younger girls hair and said that of course Percy had pulled it off- she was a Kane after all.
They hadn't been so happy when she'd gotten to the part of the story that included Atlas- Percy could see when Carter nearly lost control as she told him how she'd fought the Titan- pushing herself well past the point when she should have stopped wielding her magic. How he'd made one last effort to end her. And if Sadie had clung to her a little tight… well, Percy wasn't going to actually complain about it. The warmth of her sisters arms around her was kind of comforting honestly.
The rest of the story came easier- and the tension started to ease out of the two elder Kanes when Percy told them how she'd woken up in the lake, with Annabeth and Piper, the two girls kissing her. Sadie had teased her, that familiar grin on the older girls lips as Carter had huffed and grumbled under his breath about how dare she grow up- and had he given her permission to get in a relationship? No, no he didn't think so.
Still, Percy was pretty sure he approved. And that did matter to Percy- oh his disapproval of the relationship wouldn't stop her of course. But she would feel sad if he did disapprove.
And once the story was done Percy munched on some food that Carter and Sadie had brought with them- it was just some potato chips, but they'd brought enough bags to go around and, in Percy, Artemis and Lukes cases, they were all still hungry despite having already eaten at camp.
And, at Carter's soft urging Percy let Sadie drape a blanket over her shoulders, and she snuggled up into her sisters warmth, using the older girls lap as a pillow.
She was exhausted. She desperately needed sleep, so it didn't take long for the darkness to take her.
Of course, Percy wasn't lucky. No. She wasn't going to get restful sleep, of course not. She was going to dream. Because that was just her luck.
She found herself on Mount Tam- the familiar ruins building themselves around the two figures and sarcophagus. If Percy was guessing she'd say that the spot they were in would be a throne room if Mount Orthys could rise again on Mount Tam. That was probably not a good sign she figured. But there wasn't much they could do about it yet.
"You say they travelled to Mykonos?" that voice was low and ancient. And annoyingly familiar. She remembered hearing him talk to Luke, manipulating him. Kronos' voice, emanating from the sarcophagus. "And you let them escape you?"
"Let is a strong word." Atlas growled the words, and Percy took in the sight of him, wincing slightly because ouch- his arms were a mess, clearly the damage the chaos magic had done wasn't going to just disappear or heal up quickly because they were a mass of dry cracked and blistered red skin, some Ichor still oozing out of them. It was an incredibly nasty sight. "If the Magician had warned me of the Princesses power-"
"How was I supposed to know." Alina snapped the words, "I knew she'd wielded Chaos magic once or twice I didn't realise she was so accomplished with it-"
"You should have told us the nature of the girl-"
"I didn't want you deciding the risk of using her as a sacrifice was too high." Alina shot back. "Percy Kane is the perfect sacrifice to revive you Kronos. With her connection to the power of Chaos your power will surpass anything you've felt before-"
"I admit-" Kronos spoke smoothly, "That it would be most useful. But you should have informed us-" his words were harsh and Alina winced slightly at the force of them, "If I discover you have been keeping more from me then I will discipline you harshly, ally or not. Luckily for you my little traitorous servant is on his way here. Undoubtedly with the Kane girl and Artemis. And from what Atlas has told me the girl will be drained of power. She'll stand little chance of escaping this time. But there is one thing that troubles me Atlas. Why Mykonos? Why did our enemies travel there?"
"I know not Lord Kronos." Atlas shook his head, "When I arrived they were heading away from what looked to be some caves but-"
"Caverns-" Kronos' voice turned deeply suspicious, "On Mykonos…" it turned distant, "It has been so long… but it is strange that they would travel there. To the place of my defeat, rather than to safety-"
"I have people at all of the points they're likely to portal to- and outside of Brooklyn House. They'll be travelling by air. The reports say that her brothers Griffin took off with it's boat some hours ago. They know travelling here by Portal will lead to their capture but I'm sure you can send monsters by air to intercept them can you not-"
"Of course I can." Kronos scoffed, "I shall send my servants to ensure their journey isn't smooth sailing. But still…" he shook his head, "Whatever they plan they will not make it here free. And tell me Magician, what of your spirit companion. Where is Setne?"
"He goes where he pleases." Alina's expression turned sour, "I have no control over him. But in the case of Percy Kane at least he can be trusted to help us. The Kanes are his enemies as much as ours Lord Kronos."
"You best hope that you're right. Or you will suffer." The words were heavy with power and threat and Alina looked nervous for a moment before she hid it.
Clearly she wasn't stupid enough to fully trust Setne, but the position she was in now was certainly precarious. Percy almost felt a sharp satisfaction. Alina would regret making allies with Kronos in her desperate desire for revenge against the Kanes. She was in too deep already and she was just getting deeper- Kronos wouldn't hesitate to kill her if he thought she'd lived out her usefulness.
If the other girl hadn't caused her so much grief then Percy might have even felt a twinge of sympathy. But she had let her fathers poison twist her mind a long time ago. She'd taken Desjardins from Percy and for that she found no forgiveness in her heart.
She shook off those thoughts. She needed to prioritise. Setne was… well, she had no way of knowing where they annoying little worm was but he was off up to something. That wasn't a good sign. And she wondered what servants Kronos planned to send after them. It didn't sound good but… there were a lot of flying monsters that they could send. Percy had no way of knowing which would come for them.
That was irritating. She forced herself to focus again- she must have zoned out a little because Atlas was mid-sentence and she hadn't caught the first half.
"-the Ophiotaurus should still feature in our plans Lord Kronos. You know of the prophecy. And the Grace girl- my lord-"
"We have time for that." Kronos cut him off, "The Grace girl is still young, not yet thirteen. I do not plan on waiting three years to return to power if I can take back my throne sooner-"
"Which you can." Alina spoke up, "With my help none will be able to stop you. Just as long as you allow me the pleasure of destroying my enemies-"
"I still question the wisdom of this-" Atlas growled, "The girls plan sounds too good to be true- and the risks my lord- if she cannot complete this ritual- you could be weaker th-"
"Silence!" Kronos roared the word so loudly that Percy almost winced, and Atlas' mouth snapped shut, a sour expression on his face. Which honestly… yeah Percy couldn't blame him for. Sure she didn't want him making good points to Kronos- she wanted Kronos to make the worst possible decisions he could make but... well, she'd be annoyed in Atlas' position too.
And Atlas was definitely also annoyed by his arms. They kept twitching in spasms of pain which he was trying to suppress- and all things considered he wasn't doing a terrible job at it.
"Well aren't you just a great boss." Percy rolled her eyes, "I really don't know how you managed to brainwash Luke if you talk to your subordinates like that." She huffed the words.
And then she felt as if someone was watching her- looking for her.
"Someone is here. Someone watches-"
"What?" Alina's voice was tight. "Someone- who-"
"I can't tell." Kronos growled, "But they will suffer-"
"Oh this should be fun." Percy muttered the words, pinching her arm hard, "And now I think it's time for me to wake up."
And Percy wasn't sure if it was luck or something else- but a moment later there was a hand, gentle on her arm and she blinked her eyes open, staring up at familiar kaleidoscope eyes.
Her lips twitched into a sleepy smile and she let out a soft, warm pleased noise. "Can I wake up like this every morning?"
"Hm. We'll see." Piper's voice was teasing and her lips brushed Percy's before she pulled back, "You've been out for like, six hours. Carter wanted me to wake you up." She paused, eyes narrowing very slightly as she looked at Percy.
"Dreams?"
"Yeah." Percy grimaced as she sat up, letting Piper help her as her gaze flicked from her girlfriend to the others in the boat. It was darker than it had been, the sun was starting to go down. Which made sense. It was probably like, seven by now. Getting later. Still they should get to San Francisco at some point on the nineteenth. Carter probably wasn't pushing Freak too loud. There were a lot of them and he'd need to fly home too. Even so it should be fast enough as long as they could deal with whatever Kronos threw at them.
Carter was still sat up front, though Freak was flying mostly without direction at this stage- it was probably a pretty simple flight since he was just heading in a straight line pretty much. Sadie was sat with him.
The others were mostly at the other end of the boat, Bianca talking animatedly to Thalia and Artemis, Luke sat in a brooding silence staring over the edge of the boat and Annabeth- Percy's lips twitched. Annabeth was watching her and Piper, clearly unable to drag her gaze away from the two other girls.
She met Annabeth's steely gray eyes and she saw Annabeth's smile and her heart sped up. She wanted to bask in it forever. In the presence of the two other girls, in the feeling of Piper by her side and Annabeth's eyes on her.
But she was, deep down inside, far more practical than pretty much anyone was liable to give her credit for. Which was why she sighed loudly pushed herself up onto her feet, clapping her hands. "Guys! Guys we need a little quest meeting. Unfortunately for us I've had a dream."
