After the grand tournament that was Duelist Kingdom, the meeting of Rebecca Hawkins, the defeat of the Big Five and the meeting of Duke Devlin, it seemed like life was back to normal for Twilight and her friends in Domino City. But not all peace can last forever, as a new darkness approaches the city of games.

17. Chapter 135: Nature's Fury

Chapter 13.5

"Nature's Fury"

Fluttershy and Yugi were the first to exit the building that Yugi was forced to battle Arkana in. "I'm so glad that you're safe, Yugi. I couldn't bare to think what I'd do if I ever lost you." Fluttershy said as she looked at her beloved. "I may not be entirely familiar with having a girlfriend, but I'm sorry if I made you worry." Yugi responded. "Oh, don't worry, Yugi. As long as you're still standing, it's fine. But try not to scare me like that again. Okay?" Fluttershy asked. "Sure." Yugi replied. Fluttershy simply smiled and kissed him. However, they were unaware that someone was watching them near the flower shop 'So. That's Yugi Muto, and his girlfriend. I found my target at last.' he thought, specifically eyeing Fluttershy.

Fluttershy and Yugi proceeded to walk down the street, hand in hand, only for the stranger, wearing a Rare Hunter cloak, to approach them. "So, you're Yugi Muto and Fluttershy, huh? An interesting couple, I must admit. Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Rare Hunter Shokudo." he said. "I already dealt with one Rare Hunter, I'm not in the mood to face another!" Yugi stated. "You misunderstand, my orders aren't to defeat you, Yugi. My orders are to defeat your girlfriend and take her rarest card." Shokudo explained. 'My Dark Witch?' Fluttershy thought.

"If you wish to accept my challenge, like a member of the Battle City Security Team is supposed to, then follow me." Shokudo said before walking forward. "Well, I don't really want to, but as a member of the Battle City Security Team, I have no choice but to accept as per the Battle City rules." Fluttershy bravely said as she and Yugi followed Shokudo all the way to the Domino City Greenhouse. "So, you know the stakes? My rarest card, the Penguin Soldier, for your Dunames Dark Witch." Shokudo said as he puts his deck into his Duel Disk. "Agreed." Fluttershy responded as she put her deck into her own Duel Disk. Soon, both players had their Duel Disks activated, their hands drawn, and their life points set to 4000. And with an equally determined 'Let's duel!', the game was on.

"First turn honors are mine." Shokudo said as he drew his first card. "I'll set a monster on the field, then set two facedowns and end it there." he added. 'He's playing defense and he has two facedowns. Better be careful.' Fluttershy thought. "My turn!" she declared before drawing. "And the first thing I'll do is use Polymerization to combine these two monsters from my hand! I fuse Berfomet and Gazelle the King of the Mythical Beast together to summon Chimera the Flying Mythical Beast!" she added as her two monsters fused and Chimera appeared on the field. "Since fusion monsters have to wait a turn before they can attack, I'll set a card face down and summon the Mother Grizzly in attack mode!" she continued.

Soon, Mother Grizzly, a level four, Water attribute beast-warrior/effect monster with 1400 attack points and 1000 defense points appeared on the field with a roar. "Mother Grizzly, attack his face down monster!" Fluttershy commanded before the card flipped up to reveal Rigorous Reaver, a level three, Fire attribute plant/effect monster with 1600 attack points and 100 defense points that was promptly destroyed. "Looks like you just met my personal scarecrow, Rigorous Reaver. Once he's flipped face up on the field, we each discard a single card." Shokudo revealed as they both discarded a card. "But there's more, if a monster reveals the Rigorous Reaver, it causes the monster who attacked it to lose 500 attack and defense points!" he added, to Fluttershy's shock, as the Mother Grizzly's attack power dropped to 900 and her defense points dropped to 500.

"Now that mama bear's been declawed, I draw!" he continued as he drew his next card. "You know what the one thing I love about the planet is? The plants. After all, the plants were here long before the dinosaurs." he stated. "I like plants, too. Your point is?" Fluttershy asked. "Simple, this planet rightfully belongs to them, not to the animals, nor to us humans." Shokudo answered, surprising Fluttershy. "But nature exists in a delicate balance between the plants, humans and animals. We can't break that balance, it would destroy the circle of life." Fluttershy protested. "Circle of life? You're thinking of the full thing, I'm speaking for the plants that started it all, the ones who get little recognition. And I'm about to show you some now, by activating Terraforming!" Shokudo declared.

"What does that do?" Yugi asked. "I think Terraforming allows the user to add a field spell card to their hand." Fluttershy answered. "Very observant. And now I activate that field spell now! Forest!" Shokudo said as he drew his field spell and played it, causing the field to become a giant forest. "Now all my plants will gain a 200 point boost in their attack and defense. Next I summon the Gigantic Cephalotus!" he added as his next monster, a level four, Earth attribute plant/effect monster with 1850 attack points and 700 defense points, now boosted to 2050 and 900 respectively, appeared with an open, hungry mouth. "This plant is flesh hungry, so it's time to feed it! Gigantic Cephalotus, attack Mother Grizzly!" he declared before the plant guzzled down the Mother Grizzly in one gulp, to Fluttershy's horror as her life points dropped to 2850.

"You may have destroyed Mother Grizzly, but her sacrifice won't be in vain, because now I can special summon a water monster from my deck with 1500 attack points or less. And my monster of choice, the Cure Mermaid!" Fluttershy revealed as her monster, a level four, Water attribute fish/effect monster with 1500 attack points and 800 defense points, appeared before her. "Now it's my turn again, and thanks to Cure Mermaid's special ability, my life points increase by 800." she said as her life points went from 2850 to 3650 before she drew.

"I set a monster in defense mode, and I'll have Chimera attack your Gigantic Cephalotus!" she added before her fusion monster charged. "You fell for it! I activated Spirit Barrier!" Shokudo declared as he sprung his trap. "This card will protect my life points from dropping!" he added as his Gigantic Cephalotus was destroyed. "That may have protected you from attack number one, but not from this one! Cure Mermaid, attack him directly!" Fluttershy declared as Cure Mermaid's attack connected, dropping Shokudo's life points to 2500. "Not bad, but not good enough. I activate my second trap card, Numinous Healer! It'll restore 1000 of my life points!" Shokudo revealed as his life points jumped from 2500 to 3500.

"Just like the plants of the forest around us, you can step on me, but I'll always grow back, stronger than before." he said, determined, as he drew his next card. "Now I summon World Carrotweight Champion!" he added as his monster, a level four, Dark attribute plant/effect monster with 1900 attack points and 0 defense points, now increased to 2100 and 200, respectively, appeared on the field. "Time to show you how the plants retaliate when you destroy one of their own! World Carrotweight Champion, attack her face down!" he commanded, but when the monster was revealed, it turned out to be Soul Tiger, a level four, Earth attribute beast with 0 attack points and 2100 defense points, now increased to 200 and 2300 respectively thanks to the power of Forest. "Looks like you met my best defender, the Soul Tiger. And thanks to your field spell, he gains a 200 point boost, too!" Fluttershy said with a confident smile as Shokudo growled while his life points dropped to 3300.

'Wow. Fluttershy really planned ahead with that one. She' grown a lot as a Duelist since her early days of training with my grandpa.' Yugi thought, clearly impressed by his girlfriend's skills. "It's my turn again." Fluttershy said upon drawing. "Thanks again to the Cure Mermaid, my life points increase by 800." she added as her life points went from 3650 to 4450. "First I'll switch my mermaid to defense mode." she said as her mermaid switched positions. "And now it's time for my furry friend to eat his vegetables. Chimera, attack the World Carrotweight Champion!" she declared as her beast went on the attack.

"Silly girl. As long as my Spirit Barrier is still in effect, my life points won't decrease!" Shokudo shouted as his monster was destroyed with a slash and a crunch from Chimera's claws and jaws. "Eating vegetables is one thing, but just sic'ing an abomination of an animal upon one such as my World Carrotweight Champion, that's SACRILIGE!" Shokudo bellowed before drawing. "Well, you're not the only one with a creature that can walk among the members of the animal kingdom. Behold, the Botanical Lion!" he declared as his next monster, a level four, Earth attribute plant/effect monster with 1600 attack points and 2000 defense points, appeared with a mighty roar.

"They say that the lion is the king of beasts, but this one is the king of plants! And there's a reason for it, for every plant monster I control, including my lion itself, it gains 300 extra attack points!" he continued as his lion's attack points jumped from 1600 to 2100 and its defense points increased from 2000 to 2200. "Now, my mighty Botanical Lion, attack the Cure Mermaid!" he commanded as the lion pounced and destroyed the Cure Mermaid. 'Oh, no. Now my life points can't increase any further. At least Chimera is still strong enough to hold that lion off, at least for now.' Fluttershy thought as she drew. "I have no choice but to pass." she said aloud.

"It's only natural for you to decide to go on the defensive. That always happens to those who disrespect the plants that give this planet its life!" Shokudo stated as he drew. "You see, the reason I prefer plants to humans and animals is because of the disrespect that you and your kind have shown to my green friends. The way your kind and the filthy animals carelessly trample them underfoot and how you put them on display in greenhouses like this instead of letting them grow out in the wild where they belong, it makes me sick!" he continued. "The only reason they're in here is for their protection. Some of them are very rare and need to be protected." Fluttershy protested.

"Protected?! They never asked for your help! Just like the lonesome plant of the sea, seaweed. Now it's time to show you how seaweed retaliates when you disrespect it, I summon Lukunga!" Shokudo bellowed as his monster, a level four, Water attribute plant/effect monster with 1700 attack points and 500 defense points, now increased to 1900 and 700 respectively, appeared. And upon its appearance, Botanical Lion's attack points increased from 2100 to 2400. "Getting nervous yet?" he asked. Fluttershy kept looking determined as she drew. "Not nervous, just thinking. So I'll pass." she said at last.

"I thought as much." Shokudo simply said with a smirk before drawing. "I think it's time for you to meet the incarnation of the forest itself. I summon, Eco, Mystical Spirit of the Forest!" he added as his next monster, a level four, Earth attribute plant/effect monster with 1700 attack points and 1000 defense points, now increased to 1900 and 1200, respectively. "And with a new plant added to my army terrafirma, my Botanical Lion grows stronger!" he continued as his lion's attack points increased to 2700. "Feeling the pressure yet?" he asked with a grin.

"Keep calm and carry on, that's what I always say. And I plan to carry on with my job as Battle City security enforcer, and that's to bring you in!" Fluttershy retorted. "I'll pass again." she concluded. "Still can't do a thing, can you?" Shokudo asked as he drew his next card. "Time to bolster my ranks! I summon, Papa-Corn!" he declared as his next monster, a level four, Earth attribute plant/effect monster with 1200 attack points and 800 defense points, now increased to 1400 and 1000, respectively, appeared. "Now, not only does my Botanical Lion gain 300 more attack points, but since I have Forest in play, Papa-Corn gains 1000 attack points!" he bellowed with pride as Papa-Corn's attack points increased to 2400 and the Botanical Lion's attack power increases to 3000.

"I think its time to see what you have hiding under there. Papa-Corn, attack her face down!" he commanded as his monster went on the attack. "Looks like you just revealed my little friend, the Bubonic Vermin. When he's revealed, I can summon another one and then shuffle my deck!" Fluttershy revealed as her monster was destroyed and another one was set in its place while she shuffled her deck. "Pesky little rodents! I'll just destroy your other two, then! Eco, attack the second Bubonic Vermin!" Shokudo shouted before the second one was destroyed, prompting Fluttershy to set her third one and shuffle again. "Now, Lekunga, destroy the third one!' he ordered as the third and final Bubonic Vermin was sent to the graveyard. "And that's not all! It's time to exterminate your mutant beast! Botanical Lion, attack Chimera!" he continued.

In moments, Chimera was destroyed and Fluttershy's life points dropped to 3550. "Well, you unknowingly bought me a little bit more time, because when Chimera is destroyed, I can special summon one of the monsters used to summon him, and I choose to bring back Gazelle, the King of Mythical Beast!" Fluttershy revealed as Gazelle appeared and its attack points and defense points increased to 1700 and 1400. "So you have another monster, big deal. I could easily destroy it. So make your final move." Shokudo responded as Fluttershy drew. 'Perfect, the card he wants, my Dunames Dark Witch. I think I'll let her draw his attention.' she thought. "You wanted to see my rarest card, well here it is! I summon the Dunames Dark Witch!" she declared as her monster appeared.

"So, you brought out my eventual prize, eh? Well, I'll have the pleasure of removing her from the field, along with the remainder of your life points!" Shokudo stated as he drew his next card. "I summon Homunculus the Alchemic Being!" he declared as his next monster, a level four, Light attribute plant/effect monster with 1800 attack points and 1600 defense points, now increased to 2000 and 1800, respectively, appeared. But as it did, the Botanical Lion's attack power increased to 3300. "Now to remove that witch from the game, and your life! Botanical Lion, attack!" he bellowed, but Fluttershy smirked as the lion let out its powerful roar.

"What's with the smirk? Happy you're about to lose?" Shokudo asked. 'I know that look, Fluttershy. It's the same look Yami gave Weevil at Duelist Kingdom.' Yugi thought. "Guess you forgot all about my facedown from the very start of the duel. Well, time to show you what it is! Activate, Mirror Force!" Fluttershy declared as her trap sprung. "NO! Not Mirror Force!" Shokudo shouted in horror. "That's right, you called your attack on my witch, and now Mirror Force will reflect your lion's powerful roar right back at YOU!" Fluttershy declared as the roar was reflected, destroying all of Shokudo's monsters. "My... My beautiful plants! How DARE YOU!" he shouted, furious at what just happened.

"Now, it's time to finish this duel once and for all! I tribute my Soul Tiger to summon the Flame Cerberus!" Fluttershy declared after drawing. In no time, the Sould Tiger disappeared, and in its place stood a level six, Fire attribute Pyro monster with 2100 attack points and 800 defense points. "Okay, Dunames Dark Witch, Flame Cerberus, attack together and end this duel!" she commanded before both attacks land and Shokudo's life points hit zero. "This... This cannot be. I... I failed, the plants." he said in shock as he dropped to his knees.

"To disrespect the animals, to which the plants provide food and shelter, is to disrespect the circle of life, and even the plants." Fluttershy said as she activated her ring to inform the police of the duel's conclusion. "I may be a man of the plants, but I'm also a man of my word. As promised, my Penguin Soldier is in my deck. Its yours." Shokudo said, humbly. Fluttershy soon found her prize. "You have my word, I'll treat it with respect, as well. Just like my Darkworld Thorns." she said humbly, but what she said struck a chord with Shokudo.

"Darkworld Thorns? That's a plant monster. It was my first card when I started dueling. So, your deck isn't entirely animalistic?" he asked. "I told you. I respect the circle of life. All of it." Fluttershy confirmed as the police showed up and took Shokudo away. "Perhaps, I learned something from you, Fluttershy. If a human can care for a plant as deeply as you, along with animals, then maybe the world is big enough for all three parts of the circle of life." he said humbly as he was loaded into a police car and driven off.

"You think he's changing?" Yugi asked. "I think so. He's finally understanding that even an animal lover can appreciate the plants." Fluttershy answered. "Congratulations on your victory, Fluttershy. But I think it's time I continue on my way." Yugi said, gently. "I know. Good luck, Yugi. I love you." Fluttershy responded. "I love you too, Fluttershy." Yugi replied before the two kissed, just as the sprinklers went off in the greenhouse, creating a rainbow.
