Chapter 2: The Serpent's Terror

Sometime later...

"Welcome back, folks!" Blader DJ announced in his announcer booth. "And here we go again with another round of Battle Bladers! For now, entering the second half of this tournament's first round: the fifth battle is Kumasuke Kumade versus Kyoya!"

"Lion Gale Force Wall!" Kyoya wasted no time in unleashing his tornado and instantly sending Kumade's Rock Orso out of the ring. "That was too easy." he reclaimed his Rock Leone.

"The sixth battle is Reiki versus Tsubasa." Blader DJ turned the audience's attention to the next fight.

"Eagle, Metal Wing Smash!" Tsubasa called out his Earth Eagle's special move. "Don't hesitate." he sent the younger Sodo twin's Evil Gemio out of the ring.

"Well there, you have it." Blader DJ announced the results. "Kyoya defeated Kumasuke. And in the other match, the talented Tsubasa defeats his opponent Reiki. They're off the second round, so let's give it up for them!"

After intermission...

"It's time to begin our next matchup in Battle Bladers." Blader DJ announced the next match. "Give it up for Rock Aries, Hyoma and his opponent, Reiji."

"So, he's with the Dark Nebula, too." Hyoma noted.

"It is unclear how Reiji earned 50,000 Beypoints because there is no record of him competing in any of the challenge matches." Blader DJ supplied. "All we do know the Bey he uses is Poison Serpent. Who know what kind of battle tactics he will show us?"

"It doesn't make any difference who my opponent is because I have friends." Hyoma was ready for his battle. "Friends who got me here and are counting on me to win."

"Time to rock-and-roll, everyone." Blader DJ started the countdown.

"Now, then." Hyoma mused. "First, let's just see what kind of power have, shall we?" he sent Clay Aries in, attacking Poison Serpent. "I know this much; it's defensive power is high, but I don't feel any real strength in this Bey. If this is all it's got, Aries will easily be able to push it out."

Reiji just grinned and counterattacked.

"Aries, Wind Storm Assault!" Hyoma called out his second special move. Rock Aries moved past Poison Serpent and moved in for another assault. What's going on? He wondered, stunned that Poison Serpent managed to fight toe-to-toe with Rock Aries. "Those attacks aren't strong at all and Aries isn't taking much damage, either. But still, something isn't right here." I can't shake this uneasy feeling. I can't think straight. But why? It's just another battle. "This guy..." he realized too late he was caught in Poison Serpent's trap. "Who is he?" take a deep breath. He centered himself. Calm down. Obviously, Poison Serpent can't be defeated with normal attacks. But, it's still just a Bey with high defensive power. "Now, I'll end this with one big move. Aries, Horn Throw Destruction!"

Reiji sent out Poison Serpent to block the attack before flinging the Bey into the air. Once Rock Aries dropped back into the ring, Poison Serpent renewed its attack.

"Move on, Aries." Hyoma barked. "Now. Wind Storm Assault!"

Poison Serpent avoided the attack and circled Rock Aries, trapping it.

"But how..." Hyoma was shocked when Aries went down. "I see now." he realized what happened. "So, it looks like I've been playing into your hands this whole time, haven't I? Each attack you made was weak, so I didn't pay attention to them. And because of my carelessness, I completely missed that all those small hits Aries kept taking caused a lot of damage, which is now weakened Aries' rotation. Each time you attacked, your Bey managed to drive something, some kind of poison deep into Aries. It's all part of your plan to defeat me, isn't that the case?"

"You're wrong." Reiji refuted. "It's not so I could defeat you. It's so I can destroy your entire being." he had Poison Serpent catch Rock Aries in its grasp, its fangs sinking into the ram's neck.

"Aries, Wind Storm..." Hyoma called out.

"That's useless." Reiji mocked, having Poison Serpent deepen its bite on Rock Aries, driving more poison

"Counterattack, Aries." Hyoma shouted. "Don't lose to a guy like this."

"This can't be the end of this." Reiji smirked. "Entertain me more, pretty please. At this point, there is no point in breaking you."

"Leave me alone." Hyoma stammered, seeing a fragment of Rock Aries break off. "You don't fight to win, you fight to break people. What's the matter with you?"

"You've started to fall apart nicely." Reiji chuckled. "More, struggle more! Become more frightened and then give up. You should stop trying and become nothing, just like that worthless Bey."

"I won't allow a blader like you to win." Hyoma roared. "You hear me? Beyblade isn't something you do in order to break your opponent."

"What is Beyblade you ask?" Reiji mocked. "Do you tell me then, Hyoma. You're scared. You're just so scared that you don't know what to do next, do you? Too bad because you can't run from me anymore; that's a fact. I'll defeat you so completely that you'll never be able to pick up a Bey ever again."

"I won't let you." Hyoma snapped. "I'll bet my blader spirit on it. I'm going to defeat you, no matter what."

Reiji just smirked and tossed Rock Aries into the sky. "I won't end this, not quite yet." he sent Poison Serpent up towards the falling Rock Aries, further tormenting the ram spirit. "Dark Move: Serpent Venom Strike." he sent out a flood of Poison Serpents towards the weakened Aries, flinging it up into the sky and completely shattering the Bey. "That was a fun battle." he reclaimed Poison Serpent.

"The winner is Reiji." Blader DJ declared.

"That was the best thing for your Bey." Reiji sneered and left the ring.

"The first round of Battle Bladers is almost completed." Blader DJ called in the next contestants. "Please welcome to the stadium, the one the only, Hikaru."

"Even if the opponent is Ryuga, I will win." Hikaru swore. "I must not lose this. I will not lose."

"And now, Hikaru's opponent is fearsome blader who blew through various tournaments like a lightning storm, winning all he entered, the seemingly unstoppable Ryuga." Blader DJ introduced the other blader.

"Why did I think I could win even for a moment, against a guy like that?" the intimidated Hikaru stammered, overwhelmed by Ryuga's menacing aura. "I'm ready." she fought back her fear.

"There's a little reward for not running away at the sight of me." Ryuga praised. "I'm going to finish you with my Dark Move." he had L-Drago knocked Storm Aquario off. "Dark Move: Dragon Emperor Soaring Bite Strike!" he summoned numerous L-Drago spirits to surround Storm Aquario and sent the dragons towards the Bey and its user.

A spherical energy shield suddenly enveloped the screaming Hikaru, fending off the energy blast and splitting the beam into two. However, the energy beam was so strong, it shot out of the stadium, wrecking the building and Storm Aquario was also thrown out of the ring.

"Hikaru!" Ginga and the others ran towards their fallen female friend. "Are you all right? Hang on. This energy..." he blinked, as the energy barrier shimmered away. "Seina-nee, is that you? Did you protect Hikaru? Ryuga!" he snarled at the chuckling Ryuga.

"I'm looking forward to my battle with you, my dear old friend, Ginga." Ryuga posted his challenge.

In the inner chamber of the Temple of Mist Valley...

"My lady." Dunamis was instantly by Seina's side, the younger woman had expanded her aura to protect Hikaru from L-Drago's dark power.

"I'm alright, Dunamis." Seina assured. "I just didn't expect L-Drago's new master to be able to control its tremendous power with ease in such a short time. Be careful, little brother."
